Thanks all for your response. Like what i s wrote in my intial post, lets leave a good legacy for our younger ones an the administrative staffs of Nairaland should effect good administration that will build this forum and not allow those who never knew how they start to spoil their good work and name. However the success of this forum is dependent on you and me; post good articles and ingnore junks.

This is the only forum for now that has reputation in terms of jobs and other stuffs like entertament. 'Charity they say begin from home'. To my own understanding any reponsible individual sholud know where to play online and where to crack jokes. The most surprising thing is that when you get to know the people that post junks on this forum you will be amazed because they are made of good stuff; intellencial who can move this nation forward.

So i want to use this medium to appeal to they all, please redirect your vision and mission and make yourself and others happy as there is nothing greater that this.

Jobs/VacanciesWhy All These Nonesense! by tegachuks(op): 10:46pm On Jun 03, 2008
Couple of years back when i got to know about Nairaland, i was encouraged and  impressed  that a Nigeria forum can be this good. I got GOOD and vita information that where GENUINE compel to what is obtainable these days, where people post all sort of junks most especially on the the job segment all in the name of promoting their own selfish desire; this forum is not a market place where to advertise BLOG or WEBSITES.

Please fellow nairalanders let us build this forum and not destroy it. This is where most young school leaver get first hand information about job vacanies so let us not destroy the future of our younger brothers and sisters. Let us give information that are REAL and GENUINE. Let us all be a good and true Nairalander.

However, i will like to end by saying that Standard Chartered Bank will be recruiting Direct Sales Representives. So if you know you will be able to sell financial product you can drop you curriculum vitae at their office at 142 Ahmadu Bello  Way, Victoria Island opposite silver bird gallaria.

I wish you all the best.

Jobs/VacanciesTen Incredible Rules About Interview by tegachuks(op): 5:48pm On Dec 14, 2007
Most of person including me have been finding it funny during interviews but in the course of my study i find out that there are rules governing; question you ought to ask and so on. Below are some of the tips i thought of it, it might be of help to Nairaland's. Please read it or print it, it might help you.

1.  Keep your answers brief and concise. Unless asked to give more details, limit your answers to two to three minutes per question. Tape yourself and see how long it takes you to fully answer a question.

2. Include concrete, quantifiable data. Interviewees tend to talk in generalities.
Unfortunately, generalities often fail to convince interviewers that the applicant has assets. Include measurable information and provide details about specific accomplishments when discussing your strengths.

3. Repeat your key strengths three times. It’s essential that you comfortably and confidently articulate your strengths. Explain how the strengths relate to the company’s or department’s goals and how they might benefit the potential employer. If you repeat your strengths then they will be remembered and—if supported with quantifiable accomplishments—they will more likely be believed.

4. Prepare five or more success stories. In preparing for interviews, make a list of your skills and key assets. Then reflect on past jobs and pick out one or two instances when you used those skills successfully.

5. Put yourself on their team. Ally yourself with the prospective employer by using the employer’s name and products or services. For example, “As a member of __________, I would carefully analyze the __________ and ______.” Show that you are thinking like a member of the team and will fit in with the existing environment. Be careful though not to say anything that would offend or be taken negatively. Your research will help you in this area.

6.  Image is often as important as content. What you look like and how you say something are just as important as what you say. Studies have shown that 65 percent of the conveyed message is nonverbal; gestures, physical appearance, and attire are highly influential during job interviews.

7. Ask questions. The types of questions you ask and the way you ask them can make a tremendous impression on the interviewer. Good questions require advance preparation. Just as you plan how you would answer an interviewer’s questions, write out any specific questions you want to ask. Then look for opportunities to ask them during the interview. Don’t ask about benefits or salary. The interview process is a two-way street whereby you and the interviewer assess each other to determine if there is an appropriate match.

8. Maintain a conversational flow. By consciously maintaining a conversational flow—a dialogue instead of a monologue—you will be perceived more positively. Use feedback questions at the end of your answers and use body language and voice intonation to create a conversational interchange between you and the interviewer.

9. Research the company, product lines and competitors. Research will provide information to help you decide whether you’re interested in the company and important data to refer to during the interview.

10. Keep an interview journal. As soon as possible, write a brief summary of what happened. Note any follow-up action you should take and put it in your calendar. Review your presentation. Keep a journal of your attitude and the way you answered the questions. Did you ask questions to get the information you needed? What might you do differently next time? Prepare and send a brief, concise thank you letter. Restate your skills and stress what you can do for the company.
Because of its importance, interviewing requires advance preparation. Only you will be able to positively affect the outcome. You must be able to compete successfully with the competition for the job you want. In order to do that, be certain you have considered the kind of job you want, why you want it, and how you qualify for it. You also must face reality: Is the job attainable?

Fail to plan, plan to fail. You are certain to be asked specific questions about your potential employer, so make sure you’ve done your homework on things like their last year's profits and latest product launches. Nothing is as disappointing as when a candidate oozes enthusiasm and then doesn’t even know the most basic facts and figures about a company.

Here are a few places you can find some useful information:

An online search
The company’s website is the best place to start. It shows the company as it would like to be seen and the products and services they offer. You’ll get a feel for the corporate style, culture and tone of voice. Check out the annual report and look for a press or company news page.

As you filter all this information, consider how the role you’re applying for relates to the company’s mission. You may also be able to use the site’s search facility to discover more about the person or people who will be interviewing you.

You should spend some time looking online for any other information you can find about the company. Put their name into Google News to see if they’ve had any recent interesting stories written about them. You could also discover some information written by their current employees on what it’s like to work there.

It’s also worth searching for your own name to see what crops up – your potential employer may be doing the same thing.

Industry sources
It’s not just information about the company you need – you should also have a good background knowledge of the industry so you can impress at the interview. Browse through business publications and websites to see what they are writing about your potential employer and their industry. Have a look on the newsstands at the big magazine retailers - there’s an amazing list of publications out there.

You may find back issues of trade publications at university or public libraries, or you might be able to access them online. Some journals are even available for free or by subscription through their own websites.

If you’re already in the same industry as your potential employer, it may be possible to discreetly ask colleagues or your suppliers if they know anything about the company you’re interested in.

Preparing yourself
This is the bit most people forget to give enough time to, so don’t get caught out. Just like when you’re going into an exam, feel confident that you can field any question they throw at you, and try to feel as good about yourself as you can. It shines through.

Here are a few top tips:

• Have a mock interview with a friend based on the common interview questions you’re likely to face.
• Be sure you know the time, date and location of the interview and the name of interviewers.
• Decide how you will get there and when you need to set off to arrive in good time, anticipating any delays. Do a dummy run if necessary.
• If you look good, you tend to feel good too. Avoid any last minute panic by preparing what you’re going to wear the night before.
• Don’t go into the interview with lots of baggage - psychological or physical. Take the bare minimum with you so you can concentrate on the interview, and nothing else.
• If you are asked to bring certificates, references, etc, get them ready well in advance to avoid having to chase around on the morning of the big day.
• It may sound patronising, but make sure you use the toilet before you go in – you don’t want to be bursting to go when you’re mid-interview.

Be methodical
Sit down with your CV and make notes, just as if you were preparing for an exam. Study your work record and what you have achieved. How do you see yourself? What have you done? What ambitions do you have? Make notes and prepare and rehearse sound bites about yourself. Do this out loud, even if it makes you feel weird.

Try to relate specific areas of your CV back to the job description. It will make it clear to the interviewer why they should hire you.

Remember, one of the most common interview questions is “Tell me about yourself”. Prepare a balanced and succinct answer to this question, not a life history. Keep it businesslike and don’t stray into personal feelings or family relationships. Avoid anything to do with politics or religion like the plague. Interviewers use this question to learn about your personal qualities, not your achievements - they should already have those from your CV.

I was ashamed to see graduates if not Masters holders posting junks called jokes that ought not to be. the time has come that we should grow up and be reasonable.

This forum, has really helped a lot of Nigerians and other international communities to seek answers to their problem(s).

A young man asked a question about where he can drop his CV and he was been toyed with, is this fair?

see this for yourself https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-96538.0.html

If you got no solution or answer to his/her question then stay out of it and let those who are healthy to contribute do so.

We should stop intimidating people in this forum thereby making it uninteresting.
