EducationEKSU Unveils Tetfund Sponsored ICT Center by Temibi(op): 10:00pm On Jun 01
Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, on Friday commissioned a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Experience Centre sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) which marks a major achievement in the institution's quest for digital transformation and technology driven education.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chancellor of EKSU, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, described the facility as the realization of a 45-year-old dream and a step towards equipping students with the digital skills required in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The event was attended by the first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; the wife of Nigeria's Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; the first lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji; Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state; Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; the Executive Secretary of TETFund; members of the Renewed Hope Initiative; university officials; and other dignitaries.

Welcoming the first lady to the university, Dr. Olowolafe expressed appreciation for her commitment to education and youth development, noting that her visit underscored the federal government's dedication to strengthening Nigeria's educational system.

According to him, the ICT Experience Centre is more than just a physical structure, describing it as a gateway to digital literacy, innovation, and practical learning for students.

"For the greater part of EKSU's 45-year history, the dream of having a world class ICT Experience Centre remained unrealized. Today, through the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the support of the first lady, that dream has become a reality," he said.

The Chancellor used the occasion to highlight what he described as the transformative achievements of the Tinubu administration in the education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the Federal Government's allocation of ₦3.52 trillion to education in the 2025 budget reflected a strong commitment to educational development and reform.

Dr. Olowolafe also praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a revolutionary intervention aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education.

He stated that the student loan scheme had already processed more than 1.7 million applications and disbursed approximately ₦282 billion to over 1.5 million students across tertiary institutions in the country.

The Chancellor further disclosed that eight specialized federal universities focused on critical sectors such as medicine, agriculture, engineering, and technology had been established within the first three years of the administration.

He commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for complementing the government's efforts through the Renewed Hope Initiative, citing scholarships, digital skills programmes for women, support for students, and fundraising efforts that reportedly generated over ₦25 billion for the National Library project.

Speaking on the role of TETFund, Dr. Olowolafe described the agency as a critical vehicle through which educational investments and infrastructure development have been extended to tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

He said the newly commissioned ICT Experience Centre would provide the students with access to modern technological tools and opportunities to develop skills needed to compete in the global digital economy.

Addressing the students, the Chancellor urged them to make effective use of the facility, emphasizing that the centre was built to prepare them for a future shaped by technology, artificial intelligence, and data-driven innovation.

"Every policy, every intervention, and every investment in education is ultimately about you. This facility is your gateway to opportunities in the modern world. Use it with discipline, curiosity, and determination," he advised.

Dr. Olowolafe also acknowledged the contributions of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ayodele; Governor Biodun Oyebanji; the first lady of Ekiti State; and the Executive Secretary of TETFund for their roles in advancing educational development and infrastructure within the university.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to President Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their support toward educational transformation, noting that the impact of such investments was already evident in institutions such as EKSU.

The commissioning of the ICT Experience Centre is expected to strengthen digital learning, research, innovation, and technological capacity development within the university community.

The event ended with prayers for the continued progress of Ekiti State University, Ekiti State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

CareerAbuja Training Empowers Youth To Turn Voice-over Skills Into Income by Temibi(op): 6:24pm On May 19
Aspiring creatives in Abuja are exploring new opportunities in the voice-over industry following a specialised training designed to equip participants with both technical and business skills.

The programme, themed “This Thing Called Voice-Over,” was held in Abuja and brought together young Nigerians interested in building careers in voice acting, broadcasting, and digital content creation. Organised by BICA Signatures, the training focused on the fundamentals of voice control, delivery techniques, and industry expectations.

Beyond performance, facilitators emphasised the importance of understanding the commercial side of the craft. Participants were introduced to client relations, pricing strategies, and personal branding—key components required to succeed in an increasingly competitive market.

Speaking at the event, the founder of BICA Signatures noted that many aspiring voice-over artists underestimate the discipline and structure required to thrive in the field. According to the organiser, success in voice-over depends not only on vocal ability but also on the capacity to deliver value and consistently meet client needs.

A session dedicated to the business of voice-over further challenged common misconceptions about the industry. Facilitators stressed that while talent is important, it must be complemented by training, consistency, and a clear understanding of market demands.

Participants described the training as an eye-opening experience. Some noted that it provided clarity on how to transform voice-over from a hobby into a viable source of income, while other. In contrast, ighted the importance of structure and continuous learning.

With the rise of digital platforms and content consumption, demand for voice-over services continues to grow. Initiatives like this, organisers say, are crucial in preparing young Nigerians to take advantage of emerging opportunities within the creative economy.

By OTF Media Team

In the evolving landscape of political representation, competence, character, and demonstrable experience remain core pillars of effective public service.

One individual whose professional journey reflects these attributes is Obanewo Titus Femi, an accomplished finance and management professional with over 15 years of experience across accounting, financial administration, corporate leadership, governance, and strategic management.

Born on July 28, 1980, and hailing from Ayetoro-Gbedde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Obanewo has built a career that spans multiple sectors, consistently demonstrating the discipline, rigor, and leadership essential for managing institutions and navigating complex economic systems.

Early Foundations in Accounting, Public Financial Management

Obanewo’s professional path began shortly after his early training at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, where he obtained a Certificate in Public Accounting and Auditing in 1999. He went on to secure a National Diploma (2004) and Higher National Diploma (2006) in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, building a solid academic base in financial systems and controls.

His first formal professional role came during his NYSC year (2007–2008), where he served as an Accounting Instructor at Comprehensive High School Alesa Eleme in Rivers State.

Beyond teaching accounting fundamentals, he introduced students to modern accounting tools such as QuickBooks, SAP, and Xero, demonstrating an early commitment to developing others, a trait that has followed him throughout his career.

Steady Rise Through Corporate Finance, Governance

From 2009 to 2013, Obanewo served as an Accountant at Havilah Automobile Limited in Port Harcourt. His responsibilities ranged from preparing financial statements to managing tax compliance, conducting audits, and overseeing payroll systems. These duties demanded precision, integrity, and adherence to regulatory frameworks, qualities that would later define his leadership style.

He was subsequently appointed Financial Manager at the same company (2013–2017), where his portfolio expanded into investment management, strategic financial planning, and regulatory compliance. During these years, he refined his capacity for risk assessment, budgeting, and corporate financial oversight.

His transition to broader governance responsibilities came in 2017 when he became Director of Policy and Governance at Ferach Multiconcept Nigeria Limited. In this role, he combined financial expertise with strategic oversight, ethical governance, stakeholder engagement, and performance monitoring, experience that aligns closely with the demands of public representation and legislative responsibilities.

Today, he continues to reinforce his commitment to public-sector development as a serving member of the Board of the Kogi State Polytechnic, contributing to institutional oversight, quality assurance, and policy direction for the state-owned educational institution.

Senior Leadership Roles, Executive Experience

Obanewo’s executive journey deepened with his appointment as Finance Director at Michaelson Technologies Limited (2019–2021). Here, he managed strategic financial planning, forecasting, compliance, investment appraisal, cost management, and capital allocation. His responsibilities required a macro-level understanding of both local and global financial climates, as well as the ability to translate financial realities into actionable strategies.

In 2021, he reached the apex of corporate leadership by becoming the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Felomal Integrated Services Limited, a role he holds to date. As CEO, he supervises strategic planning, operational management, risk mitigation, stakeholder relations, team leadership, and business development. Leading an organisation at this level underscores his capacity for vision-driven leadership, structured problem-solving, and effective resource management; skills essential for navigating public institutions and representing community interests.

Academic, Personal Background

Obanewo holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Banking from the University of Port Harcourt (2017). He is multilingual, speaking English, Yoruba, and his native Okun dialect, and is known for his passion for reading, teaching, and travelling. He is married and is widely regarded as a calm, analytical, and people-oriented personality.

His special attributes, critical thinking, communication, interpersonal skills, team management, and disciplined time management, mirror the competencies expected of individuals managing public mandates.

A Profile of Credibility, Professional Rigor

Throughout his career, Obanewo has maintained a consistent pattern:

Strength in financial management and accountability

Clear leadership and governance experience

A record of ethical conduct and organisational discipline

A commitment to continuous learning and community-oriented service

These qualities collectively reflect a professional whose background aligns with the responsibilities of legislative service, budget oversight, policymaking, constituency engagement, and public financial accountability.

While political decisions ultimately rest with party structures and the electorate, profiles like that of Femi Obanewo illustrate how seasoned professionals from the private sector can bring valuable expertise into the public domain.

PoliticsGov. Ododo, Very Proactive In The Face Of Insecurity by Temibi(op): 8:46pm On Nov 27, 2025
By Babajide Obafemi

At a time when insecurity is spiking across the nation. At a time when even foreign leaders, including the President of the United States, have expressed concern over violent attacks in parts of Nigeria. These are moments when we should be interrogating the issues calmly, studying the implications, and seeking lasting solutions instead of turning the matter into political football for the sake of power play. After all, insecurity does not check your religion, ethnicity, or party card before striking. We are all exposed to its consequences.

At a time when neighbouring states around Kogi are battling severe cases of banditry and kidnapping, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has refused to shiver or retreat. He has instead owned the moment, stepped forward, and chosen to confront this hydra-headed monster head on.

Recognising Kogi’s unique geography, a state that borders many others and naturally becomes a transit or escape route for criminal elements, the governor has been deliberate and strategic. Understanding that those who commit crimes elsewhere often attempt to take cover within Kogi’s vast terrains, he has refused to leave any gap unattended, especially in the area of intelligence gathering.

Mr Governor swung into action early, securing credible intel on the movement and activities of those who coordinate layers of banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency. Rather than wait for these elements to settle, he has taken a firm stance to flush them out before they take root.

Under his watch, security agencies acting on directives from the governor recently carried out major operations that led to the demolition of several bandits’ camps in the Aherin Bunu community of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area. Two wounded bandits and two fake doctors, allegedly treating them, were arrested. The camps, including makeshift clinics and farmlands used by bandits, were destroyed. Houses used for harbouring criminals were also demolished. This was not for show; it was decisive action.

Earlier in the year, a coordinated crackdown in the Bunu Forest area resulted in the arrest of 26 suspected kidnappers and several locals who provided logistical support such as food, water, and shelter to bandits.

The administration also moved to strengthen grassroots security architecture by re-engineering the state’s vigilante service and empowering local hunters. During a meeting with local government chairmen, vigilante members, and traditional security forces, the governor called for deeper collaboration among security agencies, community stakeholders, and grassroots operatives.

Beyond enforcement, the governor has emphasised that education is a weapon in the fight against terror. In a recent speech, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to leveraging education as a foundational tool against terrorism and banditry.

More recently, at a peace and security council meeting of state stakeholders, the governor unveiled a bold security blueprint. Among the measures: immediate crackdown on illegal mining and banditry to cut off criminal groups from financial lifelines; increased involvement of local government chairmen in regular security meetings; strengthened responsibility for traditional and religious leaders in monitoring land use; intensified community sensitisation campaigns; and strict demolition orders for any house harbouring criminals.

This is reassuring. This is proactive leadership. This is what responsive governance looks like.

Governor Ododo is not one of those leaders who merely speak to the gallery. He walks and works his talk. His firmness, calmness under pressure, and readiness to confront insecurity with both intelligence and strength deserve acknowledgment.

Kudos.

PoliticsTension In Kogi As Iluhagba Community Accuses Mangal Cement Factory Of Neglect by Temibi(op): 11:01am On Oct 30, 2025
By Rowland Oni

A fresh wave of tension is brewing in Iluhagba community, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, following a sharp disagreement between residents and Mangal Cement Factory over what locals describe as “years of neglect, broken promises, and betrayal.”

The community, which hosts both the cement plant and a sprawling quarry operated by the company, has accused Mangal Cement of deliberately ignoring its obligations under the Community Development Agreement (CDA) despite occupying more than 200 hectares of land and extracting raw materials daily.

According to residents, the company has failed to provide even the most basic social amenities or compensate affected families whose farmlands and ancestral holdings were taken for industrial use.

“They act as if we don’t exist,” one community elder lamented. “We gave our land for the project in good faith, hoping for development, but what we got instead is silence and disregard.”

Broken Boreholes, Broken Trust

Community sources revealed that the few boreholes earlier provided by the company have long fallen into disrepair, leaving villagers without access to clean water. Many now rely on streams and distant wells, a situation residents describe as both frustrating and demeaning.

“This is not what we were promised,” another resident said. “We expected partnership and progress, but what we have is exploitation right in our backyard.”

Anger After CDA Was Signed with Another Community

The already fragile peace reportedly collapsed when news filtered in that Mangal Cement had signed and begun implementing its CDA with Mopa — a completely different community outside Iluhagba.

“To hear that they were planning development projects in Mopa while ignoring Iluhagba, where the factory and quarry are actually located, was the height of provocation,” a youth leader explained.

The traditional ruler of Iluhagba, visibly angered by the development, was said to have confronted company officials, describing the move as an insult to his people.

“He told them clearly that inviting Iluhagba representatives to witness an agreement with another town was an embarrassment and a slap on the face of our community,” a witness recounted. “That was what broke the peace.”

Land Disputes and Unpaid Compensation

At the heart of the growing discontent are unresolved land disputes and allegations of encroachment. Families whose properties lie within the quarry area claim they have neither been compensated nor formally engaged by the company.

Community leaders insist that until these issues are addressed, there will be no further dialogue or cooperation with Mangal Cement.

Calls for Government Intervention

Local observers say the situation could worsen if government authorities do not step in. The youths, once hopeful that the factory would bring jobs and infrastructure, are now disillusioned.

“We are not against development,” one of them said, “but development should not mean deprivation. All we want is fairness, recognition, and respect for our agreement.”

Peace Efforts Underway

As of press time, local authorities and security agencies were said to be intervening to prevent an escalation of hostilities. Community elders have also called for calm, urging residents to allow peace talks to proceed.

However, many in Iluhagba remain adamant that operations at the factory will not continue smoothly until Mangal Cement returns to the negotiation table and fulfills its obligations to the host community.

PoliticsGovernance On Wheels: Ododo Empowers Kogi LG Leaders With Fleet Of Vehicles by Temibi(op): 2:49pm On Jul 30, 2025
By Babajide Obafemi

A sincere and sensible federal or state government must recognise how crucial and sensitive the local government system is to grassroots development, information dissemination, rumour control, security monitoring, quality leadership development, and strategic political engagement.

Grassroots development should percolate through local government authorities down to the base of the governance chain. This is why many have continued to advocate for capable and visionary leadership at the local government level. Some schools of thought even argue that those truly committed to leadership and development should seek office at the local level, not necessarily at the state or federal tiers.

In a heartening move, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development by distributing operational vehicles to the 21 local government chairmen across Kogi State.

This strategic investment is aimed at enhancing mobility and administrative efficiency, equipping local governments to deliver services more directly and effectively to the people. It reflects a broader agenda of strengthening democratic governance and deepening development at the grassroots.

Local governments are charged with delivering essential services to citizens—tasks that simply cannot be accomplished without the proper tools. With these vehicles, local government chairmen are now better positioned to respond swiftly to community needs, monitor projects efficiently, and maintain a strong presence within their councils.

Governor Ododo’s gesture is more than symbolic. It is a deliberate, pragmatic step toward bridging the gap between government and the governed—ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt in every ward, village, and community across Kogi State.

PoliticsGov. Ododo’s New Chapter In Local And International Market Business by Temibi(op): 12:58pm On Jul 27, 2025
By Babajide Obafemi

As part of his economic reform drive and developmental agenda, in Kogi State. The Chief Servant and Governor of Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has taken another bold step in boosting market economic development, which will bolster revenue generation and expand the business horizon of the state, thereby sustaining more profitability for businesses in a world-standard, well-equipped, and safe environment.

The Governor, who broke ground for the launch of the new ultra-modern market project, located at Hassan Katsina Road, Crusher Junction, Lokoja, on December 9, 2024, is expecting the project's delivery in 36 months.

My visit to the project site and interaction with Engineer Benjamin Adebola Omojola, the project supervisor, provided me with the opportunity to understand the rationale behind the project, its details, and expectations through the construction stages, down to its delivery.

In a league entirely of its own, this project is set to reflect the hallmark of excellence and A-list standards that Mr. Governor is renowned for. Upon completion, within a period of less than 36 months from the groundbreaking it is projected to rival, if not surpass, any world-class ultra-modern market of its kind. What truly captivates the mind are the state-of-the-art facilities that will come integrated with the project upon delivery.

Expectedly, the ultra-modern market, which will boast of not less than 3000 to 5000 vehicular parking spaces, within 20 or more connectivity roads done in rigid pavements of not less than 4 kilometers within the market, is expected to have over 5000 lockup shops for both local and international traders and business people.

The ultra-modern market will also have a complex building, which can house 8 major banks who will each have their standard vaults and power houses to themselves on a single suspended floor. In addition, there will be a separate 50-bed clinic building, which is to serve as the first aid point in the case of an emergency sickness of any type, before the patient is transferred for proper medical attention in a standard hospital thereafter.

In sustaining the world’s best practices in any large gathering, especially in a marketplace, the ultra-modern market will have an emergency fire station building, with firefighting trucks parked and ready for action, to forestall any such related circumstances. Aside from the lockup shops, there will be an area for the open market space for mini and petty traders with lockup shops at the back, there will also be three different 82.5 meters by 30 meters warehouses to warehouse goods, produce and products.

To have an all-inclusive ultra-modern market, there will be a tech hub building which will be a single suspended floor, where a high concentration of technological companies, startups and related industries will converge to showcase their thriving businesses and do their repairs. The ultra-modern market will also have its hypermarket, where all supermarkets and supermalls will be in convergence, selling basically all and every good and service.

Within the ultra-modern market will be a massive administrative building which will attend to enquiries and all administrative issues relating to the day-to-day running of the market; also, within the market will be the maintenance building built with a suspended floor to attend to maintenance issues of shops and mall owners.

The ultra-modern market will have a standard security architecture, which will make sure that there is no breach of security and ensure the sustenance of tight security within and around the market. Given this, a big security building office, five watchtowers, and a single suspended security tower that accommodates all world-standard security equipment and CCTV cameras are being built to enhance adequate and effective security within and around the market.

What excites me more is that Governor Ododo has decided to secure and harness a huge mass of land where this project is being built. The project, when completed, will help the state government collapse all other existing markets within the state’s capital into this ultra-modern market. This will reduce holdups and traffic congestion within and around the state capital. Another relieving issue is the thought of moving the present modern market from where it is situated in Nataco area, where trailer accidents and traffic congestion are recurrent.

With Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s emergence as the 5th civilian governor of Kogi State, his trajectory for development and eagle eye for uncommon projects, one will agree that Kogi State is sharply progressing and equally attracting investors to the suitability of investing in the state.

If this is not good news, I wonder what will be.

PoliticsLokoja As The Capital Of Proposed Okun State: A Risky Gamble We Must Avoid. by Temibi(op): 3:41pm On Jul 12, 2025
An open letter to Okun Development Association (ODA).

The call for the creation of Okun State is not just timely, it is a long-overdue aspiration rooted in fairness, identity, and equitable development. For those familiar with Nigeria’s colonial history, it's evident that most of the old provinces have since evolved into states. In that context, transforming the old Kabba Province into a state of its own is justifiable and a deeply symbolic step towards correcting historical imbalances.

But while the dream is noble, how we pursue it matters. I must say, with the utmost respect, that the recent proposal by the Okun Development Association (ODA) naming Lokoja as the capital of the proposed state is, in my view, a major strategic misstep, one that could do more harm than good to the overall objective.

Yes, Lokoja is a city of great historical importance. As the first administrative capital of modern Nigeria under British rule and a hub at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers, it has drawn people from far and wide. Its history is rich, and its cultural fabric is deeply woven with the presence of five indigenous tribes, the Oworo, Nupe, Ebira, Hausa, and Bassa Nge.

Among these, only the Oworo people are considered part of the broader Okun-Yoruba identity, sharing language and cultural affinity with the rest of Okunland. The other four groups, while indigenous to Lokoja and significant to its historical evolution, do not identify as Okun. This, to me, is where the real issue lies. The Hausa and Nupe section of Lokoja has the Maigari of Lokoja as its traditional ruler. The Ebiras section has the Otokiti village and a traditional head and the Bassa Nge part of Adankolo has their Etsu Bassa.

By proposing Lokoja as the capital of Okun State, we risk walking into a political and cultural minefield. We may be seen, rightly or wrongly, as attempting to impose a predominantly Okun-Yoruba identity on a city whose indigenous makeup is far more diverse. Groups like the Nupe, Ebira, Bassa Nge, and Hausa have deep ancestral ties to Lokoja, complete with traditional institutions, oral histories, and legitimate political interests. To ask them to accept being part of an "Okun State" without full buy-in is not only presumptuous, it's risky.

This could trigger unnecessary resistance. Not just in the court of public opinion, but at the National Assembly where the fate of the state creation bill will ultimately be decided. One can easily imagine counter-petitions, political pushback, and a barrage of ethnic objections that may stall, weaken, or even derail the process entirely.

Even more worrying is the message this sends to observers and policymakers at the federal level. If Okun people, known for their historical roots in towns like Kabba, Mopa, Isanlu, Egbe, Iyara, Ekinrin-Adde and Aiyetoro-Gbede cannot rally behind any of these core towns as the capital of their proposed state, then how united is this cause, really? Are we not inadvertently giving critics ammunition to question our seriousness, cohesion, and readiness for statehood?

Let’s also think about diplomacy and perception. The Oworo, though Okun in identity, are a minority in Lokoja. The city has become home to many, a shared space whose ownership and identity cannot be laid at the feet of one ethnic group. Naming Lokoja as the capital might therefore be seen as an attempt to politically dominate a space that rightly belongs to many, a move that could generate distrust and unnecessary division.

On the other hand, Kabba has long been recognised both historically and culturally as the traditional headquarters of Okunland. It is centrally located, rich in history, and already widely accepted as a unifying symbol for the Okun people. Why, then, should we abandon such a symbolic and uncontroversial option for a choice that brings more heat than light?

In conclusion, I will say let’s not undermine our own dream. The agitation for Okun State represents one of the most compelling and unifying causes in our recent history. It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and we cannot afford to squander it over a miscalculated proposal that may fracture rather than unite us.

Lokoja, with all its prestige, does not need to be the capital of Okun State for the state to succeed. And the Okun dream does not need to ride on a decision that alienates others or invites conflict.

Let us keep our eyes on the goal. Let us stand firmly by Kabba, a town that speaks to our history, our identity, and our unity. In doing so, we strengthen our case and present a more solid front, one that honours our past, respects our neighbours, and prepares the ground for a future built on genuine consensus.

After all, if we must build a state of our own, let it rest on a foundation we all truly share.

A staff of 5G Lounge, Nyang Nyele, has stabbed a customer, Ahmed Monday Abdullahi, to death after an argument.

It was gathered that the ugly incident which happened penultimate Friday has thrown family and friends of the deceased into great grief.

The lounge which is owned by Elvis Uche is located on Road 16, New Road, Off Shell Location Ada George, Port Harcourt,

A friend of the deceased who witnessed the whole incident and who was with the deceased till the very end narrated that, “this ugly incident could have been avoided if the boardman was trained on how to interact with customers. It was an avoidable death, it was unnecessary, my friend should not have died” he wailed.

According to the eyewitness who identified himself as Daniel Akani, the events that led to the untimely death of his friend popularly known as Atela was based on the payment of 500 naira for playing snooker which the supervisor had earlier said should not be paid.

In his words, “I went to the bar as usual and met Atela there, I didn’t even know he was there until I got there and saw him. We sat down chatting as they were repairing the snooker board which we had complained about serval times. Once they were done, we tried playing but realised that it was not equal so we had to set it again. I tried to play but lost, my friend also lost as the board still needed adjustment but the supervisor said we should not worry about paying but should just set it.”

He however stated that Nyele, the boardman insisted on collecting money for the game and started harassing the deceased which almost resulted in fisticuffs.

“People around settled it and we sat down taking our energy drinks as we don't take alcohol. It was like 25 to 30 minutes later that the boardman appeared from nowhere with a kitchen knife and stabbed my friend on the neck twice in rapid succession,” Akani said.

The deceased was declared dead at the hospital while the Supervisor of the Lounge helped in detaining the alleged culprit until the police arrive.

Report has it that the culprit was first detained at Uzuoba Divison before he was transferred to the State CID while the corpse had been transferred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH)

Efforts to get the reaction of the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Grace Iringe-Koko, proved abortive as she didn’t respond to the text message sent to her nor pick her calls.

However, a family source disclosed that an autopsy had been conducted on the deceased and the police are awaiting the result.

“I understand that an autopsy has been conducted, we are waiting for the result,” the younger brother of the deceased who identified himself as Henry said in an emotion laded voice.

PoliticsWhy Tinubu’s Vision Will Outlast The Abysmal Demonic Coalition (ADC) by Temibi(op): 5:12pm On Jul 07, 2025
Nigeria stands at a pivotal moment in its democratic evolution, a recurring juncture where the nation must choose between progress and stagnation. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT), Nigeria is navigating a path toward economic revitalization, institutional reform, and national cohesion. Yet, as with any transformative era, there are those who resist change, not out of principle, but out of self-interest. The so-called African Democratic Congress (ADC), repackaged as a grand coalition, is nothing more than a gathering of political opportunists, a desperate alliance which I prefer to call the Abysmal Demonic Coalition (ADC). This group lacks the ideological foundation or genuine vision to lead Nigeria forward. Instead, it represents the last gasp of fading political relics clinging to relevance.

This is a coalition without conviction at best. No doubt that political coalitions can be powerful when built on shared ideals, but the ADC is nothing more than a marriage of convenience. Its ranks are filled with career politicians who have hopscotched across parties from PDP, APC, and now ADC. They're all driven not by conviction but by survival. These are individuals who treat governance like a game of musical chairs, shifting allegiances whenever the music stops. One wonders what their guiding philosophy is and what new solutions they offer?

The truth is, there are none. This coalition is a recycled cast of former governors, ex-senators, and political godfathers who have had their time in power yet failed to leave lasting legacies and their sudden reinvention as champions of change is laughable. Nigerians have long memories. They remember the empty promises, the corruption scandals, and the lack of tangible development under many of these figures. Now, they expect the public to believe they have suddenly rediscovered patriotism? It is a hard sell.

President Tinubu is a leader with a track record and he is no political novice. His tenure as governor of Lagos State remains a benchmark for effective governance in Nigeria. Under his leadership, Lagos underwent a financial revolution, its internally generated revenue (IGR) skyrocketed, enabling investments in critical infrastructure, education, healthcare and justice delivery. Institutions like LASTMA and LAWMA, now taken for granted, were his brainchild. These were not random acts of governance but deliberate, strategic moves to build a functional state.

Even his critics acknowledge his political acumen and former Governor Sule Lamido once admitted that “Tinubu told Buhari, ‘I’ll make you President’ and he did.” This is not about political maneuvering, it is about understanding the complexities of Nigerian politics and having the will to shape its direction. President Tinubu didn’t stumble into power, he earned it through decades of strategic engagement, coalition-building, and policy-driven governance.

It is obvious that the ADC is attempting a flawed imitation of the APC Model created at the threshold of the 2015 general elections. This attempt by ADC to replicate the APC’s 2015 coalition is doomed from the start. The prior 2015 merger succeeded because it was fresh, backed by genuine public discontent, and anchored by a clear opposition message. Today, Nigerians are wiser. They can see through the facade of a hastily assembled group of politicians whose only common goal is reclaiming power, not serving the people.

Many of these figures were part of past administrations that left Nigeria worse than they met it. Now, they posture as saviours? It is an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians. A true alternative would present bold, innovative policies and not just repackaged rhetoric from yesterday’s failures.

I understand that there's a move to make Peter Obi the arrow head of this coalition but without giving him the podium. This is nothing but an illusion of a unified opposition

Let me quickly state that the Peter Obi’s appeal, particularly among Nigeria’s youth, cannot be ignored. His 2023 campaign energized a generation hungry for change especially among the first time voters just as MKO appealed to many of us as first time voters in June 1993. However, unlike MKO and hope 93, movements built on social media hype and emotional rhetoric often struggle to translate into sustained political success. The ADC is attempting to co-opt Obi’s influence, hoping his "Obidient" base will mask their lack of substance. It won't work!!!

It may be true that Nigerian politics is still deeply influenced by regional, ethnic, and religious dynamics. The ADC’s alliance is not built on shared ideology but on tactical convenience. Such arrangements rarely endure because, without a unifying vision, internal contradictions eventually tear them apart.

I have come to agree that Nigeria is going through a painful but necessary reforms under PBAT, his administration has taken bold, albeit painful, steps like the fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and fiscal restructuring. These measures were long overdue, yet past leaders lacked the courage to implement them. Although Nigerians are feeling the pinch, but these are the birth pangs of necessary reform. And I have no doubt that Nigeria will be better off at the end.

The ADC and its allies are just exploiting this hardship by calling for resistance rather than resilience. But what is their alternative? A return to the subsidy scam-ridden past? A revival of the same policies that brought Nigeria to its knees? Responsible opposition should critique constructively, not merely fan the flames of discontent without offering viable solutions.

The future belongs to builders and not opportunists. Nigeria does not need another coalition of aggrieved politicians seeking relevance. It needs leaders committed to the hard work of nation-building. President Tinubu, for all the criticisms, is a builder. His history proves it. The ADC’s alliance, on the other hand, is a coalition of the unwilling. Unwilling to accept their time has passed, unwilling to admit their failures, and unwilling to let true progress take root.

Let me be clear, any alliance formed out of bitterness rather than vision will crumble. Nigeria is moving forward, and no amount of political noise will derail that. The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan, it is a commitment to a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria. And as long as builders like Tinubu remain at the helm, the nation will rise above the distractions of desperate coalitions.

CultureAdan Dance And Its Origin In Ekinrin-adde by Temibi(op): 9:57am On Jun 29, 2025
Adan Dance is an integral aspect of Emidin Festival in Ekinrin-Adde. It usually takes place in the evening of Emidin on 20th June annually. Adan Dance is what makes the celebration of Emidin in Ekinrin-Adde unique and different from what obtains in other towns and villages in Ijumu LGA. There are other towns and villages in Ijumu that also celebrate Emidin on 20th June annually as Ekinrin-Adde.

Olu Alaa Odundun with his younger brother, Agbaluju, migrated the Aofin Agbalogbo people from Abudo to the present location of Ekinrin-Adde. He reigned as Olu-Adde of Ekinrin-Adde for fifteen (15) years (1865 - 1880). His brother, Olu Agbaluju (Agbaluju lowo idagba Apotoloro) succeeded him as Olu-Adde (1880 - 1900). The original initiator of Adan Dance was Olu Alaa Odundun.

Olu Alaa Odundun (ahodedero) was a renowned warrior and it is believed that it was during one of his numerous war expeditions that he discovered the warlike Adan Dance at Ayede Ekiti. He admired it and therefore brought it home and introduced it to his people to add colours to the annual Emidin celebration.

Aofin Agbalogbo Abudo people are undisputably the exclusive custodians of Adan just like Omigbo pond. They are emotionally attached to the two phenomenal legacies passed down to them by their forebears.

The original home of Adan in Ekinrin-Adde is Akodi with Aledegbara also known as "Adde kekun" as the meeting place for performing traditional rites to round off Adan Dance. This venue was used throughout the reigns of Olu Alaa Odundun (1864 - 1880) Olu Agbaluju (1880 - 1900) and Olu Arotile (1900 - 1912). The three Olu-Adde of Ekinrin-Adde used Akodi as their palace during their reigns.

But when Olu Ajibulu became Olu-Adde of Ekinrin-Adde (1926 - 1948), he moved the venue for the performance of traditional rites during Adan from Aledegbara to the front of his palace and this is the venue majority of us in Ekinrin-Adde today grew up to know.

Notwithstanding the subsequent change of venue from Aledegbara, till date, Adan Dance traditionally starts at Akodi and the drummers never forget to beat their drums at Aledegbara before going to fetch Chief Elegunja from his house to initiate Adan Dance. Elegunja will then sing "Ologun gbogun dide, agha logun gha gbe". This translates to the owner of Ogun has brought Ogun out, it is us that Ogun will favour. Unfortunately what is often chorused by the crowd is “Alobagbe" which is incorrect.

It is important to note that the Olu Arotile Royal Family has produced holders of Elegunja's traditional chieftaincy title consecutively for five times. The annual initiator of Adan Dance is the Elegunja.

My father, Elegunja Faleke Arotile, used to initiate Adan Dance throughout his life time. His successors, Elegunja Olorunjuwon Osasona and Elegunja Ojo Olorunfemi Osasona also played the same role just as the present Elegunja Olajide Otitolaye Arotile is doing now.

On every Adan day, with drumming and dancing, Elegunja proceeds from his house to fetch high ranking Igharefa title holders who are members of the family one after the other to join Adan Dance. The head of the family is usually the last person to join the dance. It is his responsibility to provide all items needed to perform traditional rites. The head of the family having joined, Adan Dance will proceed to Agba House, the venue where Adan traditional rites will be performed.

In the past, various weapons of war such as guns, spears, bow and arrows, cutlasses etc, were used during Adan Dance. Nowadays, however, wooden material shaped like swords and other less dangerous materials are used during the dance.

Adan Dance is rounded off with the usual offer of prayers, thanksgiving and sacrifice to Ogun for providing bumper harvest of emidin yams. Thereafter, the head of Aofin Agbalogbo Abudo family will be accompanied home with Adan drumming and dancing. But Adan Dance formally ends when Elegunja is taken back to his house from where he initiated the Adan Dance.

There are other aspects of Emidin and Adan Dance. One of them is "Egbe Asani" headed by "Abure". It is a group of young men whose sole aim is to expose and shame idenfied thieves and undesirable elements in the community. The group operates for 7 or 14 days after Emidin going round the community to abuse and curse all thieves identified within the year before Emidin and Adan Dance. The activity of this group is no longer visible these days.

The beating of Ogidigbo during Emidin is another aspect. Ogidigbo is a hollow wooden musical instrument which is domiciled in Olu Ajibulu's Palce. Till date, Ogidigbo is beaten annually during Emidin.

Emereko is the grand finale of Emidin and Adan festival. It is a feasting occasion that takes place two or three days after Emidin festival. Emereko is an elaborate feast an influential farmer or father gives to appreciate all the able-bodied men who have worked for him during the farming season. In the past, it used to involve the entire Ekinrin-Adde community. These days, it appears that only Aofin Agbalogbo Abudo family still celebrates Emereko after Adan Festival.

Some unique features of Emidin and Adan festival are gradually fading away. Ifa Emidin has become a thing of the past and so also is Egbe Asani. But there is no doubt that Adan Dance is popular and embraced by all and sundry. It remains the enduring cultural legacy for Aofin Agbalogbo Abudo and indeed the entire people of Ekinrin-Adde and the environs.

PoliticsKabba-bunu/ijumu 2023; My Manifesto, Commitment To My Constituents–abayomi Bello by Temibi(op): 1:55pm On Feb 28, 2022
In the coming weeks leading to the primary election of our great party, I will like to enlighten my constituents of my manifesto and our key focus areas when elected.

This Political manifesto is borne out of my desire and sincere commitment to serve my community where I was raised as a political being. I believe I can bring my pedigree, exposure and achievement, both in my personal and business life, to bear on the present situation in our Federal Constituency.

The present arrangement provides an opportunity for someone with the qualities to improve and build on the achievements on ground.

Our vision

To make Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency one of the most developed Constituencies in Kogi State.
To encourage transparent and accountable leadership by example for the unity and progress of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

To reconcile, integrate and harness the human, natural and material resources of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.
To provide enabling environment for individual humanitarian development.
To create and increase the entrepreneurial spirit of the members of the Federal Constituency.

To use proper Legislation to bring about EMPOWERMENT, WEALTH CREATION, and REAL DEVELOPMENT.
To access various Ministries Department Agencies, private companies and other Non-State Agencies intervention programs that will lead to achieving the above vision.
To defend and protect the dignity of every member of the Federal Constituency through application of rule of law.
To uplift the hopes and aspirations of every member of the Federal Constituency through equitable distribution of amenities.

My primary focus for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency would be anchored on a 3-point agenda;
EMPOWERMENT, WEALTH CREATION, and REAL DEVELOPMENT.

It is my belief that we can leverage on existing and new legislations to push this 3-point agenda. We will also lobby government and her relevant agencies to bring the much required federal presence to Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency. We are optimistic that these measures will significantly improve our Federal Constituency economically, politically and culturally. The critical areas requiring immediate attention include, in no particular order:
Education. Health. Tourism, and Culture. Employment Generation. Agriculture & Rural Development. Housing, and Urban Development. Information Technology & Communication. Road. Construction. Electrification. Water Supply. Industrialization. Transportation.

This will be achieved in all the sectors as highlighted below with a mixed role played by both the private sector and the Government.
I ask that you join me in changing the narrative. Together we can bring about the much needed joy to our community.
A New Dawn is here.

PoliticsOpen Letter To Kabba-bunu/ijumu PDP Leaders, Delegates by Temibi(op): 9:57pm On Feb 18, 2022
Solidarity greetings from the secretariat of the National Coalition Kabba-bunu Ijumu youth and students movement, an umbrella body that advocates, protects and defends the interest of the entire youth within the federal Constituency with a population of over 1 million active members.

We write you this day in regards to the forth coming 2023 election. Election is not in anyway new to us all, but the question we must ask is what has always been the result after the elections? "Complains"from every area, it is in line with this that we the leadership and members of the above mentioned organisation sat in kabba to deliberate, examine and finally take a decision on who can bring the needed and positive change we all want and prayed for. In an over 4hrs meeting, we took our time to look into the profile and impact of each of the aspirant from all political parties before their interest in contesting; we discover we are blessed with good heads and mind in kabba-bunu/Ijumu. But above all Mr Abayomi Bello appeared to have shown more positive direction towards the real development we all wanted, some of which we will be sharing here:

1) He has the highest capital investment by far within the federal Constituency among them all. The mega multi million dollar Omoboja farm project, is a project that can employ over 100 Kabba-bunu Ijumu youth directly, either to its oil milling section, animal feed production or live stock farm, outside this direct employment, our farmers will again be the major source for raw materials which will in turn increase the income to farmers. Increasing our agro-economic activity through distribution and sales within our people. Let’s think of the volume of wealth this single project is bringing to us, let’s think of it this way again, a man with this type of capital investment within the federal Constituency will be interested in the electricity, security, road network of our community as it In turn helps his investments thrive, other than someone who has absolutely nothing to lose if all this are not available.

2) Under his sologic care intaitive he has really touched and impacted lives positively some which includes;

His annual craft learning, mentorship and entrepreneurship program,

His loan and start up capital initiative for youth interested in doing business with no capital.

His annual purchase of JAMB Forms for as many interested students within the federal Constituency with over 1000 beneficiaries and counting.

His scholarship programs for the less privileged and gifted.

His cash, food and free medical outreach programs.

His annual Okun unity cup competition which is aimed at discovering, celebrating and tapping young sport talents and uniting us together in respective of religion or parties differences.

As a man who has selflessly done this and more before elective office, we, from the above mentioned organisation believe he will definitely do more if given the opportunity. In view of this, we are calling on our fathers, mother's, sisters and brothers to please forget about politics of highest bidder and look inward, toward capacity and someone with real love for his people.

Mr Abayomi Bello has proven he has it all.
We are calling on the delegates, leaders and elders of his party( PDP) to present him as their official flag bearer and we assure them of large scale victory in the general elections,as we continue to meet with 80 percent of the youth and students group, we are all set to tell him THANK YOU with our votes.

We cannot continue with the same system and expect a positive change, the time to act is now! Think about it

EducationRe- Federal University Lokoja VC Accused Of Sexual Scandal And Drunkenness by Temibi(op): 2:03pm On Feb 13, 2022
Okun Liberation Movement's attention has been drawn to a badly written and hurriedly circulated illicit piece about the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lokoja [FUL] Professor Akinwunmi accusing him of sexual harassment, mismanagement, and drunkenness.

Were it not for the enormity and weighty nature of these allegations, we would not ordinarily have responded to this plethora of lies from nay-sayers, knowing absolutely that it has become their character to indulge themselves in a pull him down syndrome, they have mastered perfectly the act of blackmail and will always show up whenever the tide is not to their favor.

While warning these enemies of our land to put a stop to this inglorious act of lying and blackmailing through a pseudo group or name, let us attempt to understand the piece and its badly written English and respond accordingly.

Okun Liberation Movement is surprised to read that the Vice-Chancellor of a glorious institution such as Federal University Lokoja, will stoop so low as to indulge himself with his friends in a hot romance with students of an institution he leads in an open place as described by the writer of the piece. Anyone who knows Professor Akinwunmi too well will know that since he has been given the mandate to lead the Federal University Lokoja, he has hardly had time for any social activities if he is not at his duty post holding meetings and getting involved in the institution's engagements, he is on journeys aimed at raising the standard of the institution and placing her on the global stead. What time is then left for the VC to get involved in parties and hang out that could lead to such drunkenness and sexual harassment?

If these nitwits who have nothing meaningful to do with their lives and time other than engaging in concocting frivolous allegations and lies against constituted authorities are a bit calculative and brilliant in their act of lying, they would know that Professor Akinwunmi is well brought up under the great African system of parenting, he understands the proverbial wise saying that warns a man clothed in white robes never to come close to another who carries palm oil. If they are sincere with their claims, wouldn’t they have provided the names of the ladies involved or harassed? Wouldn’t they have mentioned the name of the so-called hotel where these sexual acts and drunkenness are being carried out all the time? Wouldn’t they have mentioned the names of those involved in these illicit acts and those who also witnessed these acts when they were being perpetrated, instead of writing a disjointed article and engaging in guesswork to drive home an allegation that is dead on arrival?

It is however so sad, that the misuse of social media and the access to cheap keypads does not allow the general public to have access to channels of the right information, it does not also allow bloggers and practitioners of these information mediums to practice the true tenet of journalism which has to do with investigation of allegation before publication.
A right-thinking group would have investigated and know that were it not for the fact that Professor Akinwunmi is developmentally oriented, he wouldn’t have risen to the level of a DVC in Nasarawa Sate University where he recorded unmatched records and unequal achievements before being selected on merit for the position of the VC of the Federal University of Lokoja, never has Professor Akinwunmi had any tainted record of sexual abuse, drunkenness or misappropriation of funds in Nasarawa or anywhere he has worked before now, the records are there for sane and discerning minds to see.

Those who know the VC can attest to the fact that he only takes wine on a rare occasion, he doesn’t keep late nights except on duties about his job, he doesn’t take beer, he has never been drunk or caught drunk at any event, social, formal or informal gathering. Where these harbingers of bad news got their information about his drunkenness beats our imagination. Prof Akinwunmi is a workaholic, he appreciates and rewards hard work, he has always benefitted from merit so he favors merit at all times.

Okun Liberation Movement is surprised that these pushers of bad news refused to see the many positive leaps that the university has made during the short period that the VC has taken over the helms of affairs as the VC of the school. Are they blind to the fact that the VC had to move activities to the permanent site of the university campus, amidst security tension in the nation even when it is not yet convenient to do so? Do they notice how many developmental projects and how much quality development the Prof has drawn to the permanent site even with the meagre funds and resources that are available to the school? We seek to know, what their parameters for development are, especially regarding a young institution that is daily competing and moving up the ranks amongst those institutions that have long been established?

Okun Liberation Movement is shocked that these people could go as low as accusing the VC and school authority of bribing the NUC to move the ranking of the institution upward, we are yet to know what they stand to gain peddling these humongous lies. For the records, there are procedures that an institution is meant to go through, there are also indices that would be checked before an institution can be ranked higher. The NUC is a big and complex organization that cannot be bribed in the discharge of her duties, it saddens our hearts for a person or group to think that an institution could bribe an organization like the NUC with just a sum of 2.5 million nairas. If this negative propagandist knows or seeks proper information, they would be aware that a body that came from Spain was also involved in the touting and ranking of the school, we, therefore, wonder how 2.5 million nairas will be enough to bribe two huge and respectable organizations.

At this juncture, Okun Liberation Movement, dare these rumour mongers and blackmailers to come up with all or any evidence they have at their disposal to prove their fictitious allegations or face the full wrath of the law. We have, however, reported these blackmailers and their publication agent ‘Kogi State News’ to the law enforcement agencies for proper handling. We are also giving ‘Kogi State News’ 48 hours to recant and tender an unreserved apology in not less than ten online mediums with wide coverage and long millage or risk legal actions, failure to do so.

PoliticsSmart Adeyemi Tackles Colleagues Who Own Properties Abroad by Temibi(op): 6:15pm On Nov 10, 2021
Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi on Wednesday said serving legislators and all past public office holders should be made to account for property abroad.

Adeyemi while contributing to a bill seeking to repeal and reenact the money laundering on the floor of the Senate, said they should explain to Nigerians how they were able to acquire those properties.

The bills were sponsored by Sadiq Umar, senator representing Kwara north, and Suleiman Kwari, senator representing Kaduna north.

The Kogi senator said the bills are necessary because they will drive the federal government’s fight against corruption.

“This bill is furtherance of this government’s drive to fight corruption. There is no doubt that billions that have been siphoned abroad by those who have held public office,” Adeyemi said.

“This bill must take into cognisance public officers and their families. They should tell us how they got those properties. We should know who has acquired properties in the name of their families.

“Nigeria is bleeding out. Anybody who has held public office in the past should be made to give account. Even those who are sitting here.”

Earlier, Sadiq Umar, senator representing Kwara north, said his bill will make the fight against money laundering stronger.

“To make provisions for effective anti-money laundering legislation with the view of new techniques in money laundering,” Umar said.

“Money and terrorists have become bedfellows because of the advancement in technology.”

Also, Suleiman Kwari, senator representing Kaduna north, said the legislation will introduce provisions that will combat money laundering.

“The bill will protect those prosecuting the fight against money laundering. It will introduce certain provisions for law enforcement agencies to implement to combat money laundering,” Kwari said.

“The bill will positively impact the money laundering fight.”

On his part, Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south, said the bills should be supported because there is a fundamental problem in the fight against money laundering and corruption as a whole.

“This law should be supported by the national assembly to nip money laundering in the bud. The EFCC and ICPC are yet to be effective because there is a fundamental problem in the fight against corruption,” Ndume said.

“Let’s shift the burden of proof to the accused. If we do not give teeth to this bill we are processing, this will be another waste of time.

“The root of all the problems in this country is corruption.”

The bills passed second reading after they were put to voice votes by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

PoliticsKabba-bunu/ijumu: Imagine Olaiya Micheal Olobatoke As Your House Of Reps Member by Temibi(op): 1:14pm On Sep 05, 2021
By Obafemi Babajide

For people in the grass root, the first government that directly touches their lives is the local government. People have argued endlessly about the need to concentrate funds and resources at the local level, sincere power of autonomy should be granted to the local government with the placement of checks and balances so that it won’t be miss used. Argue it with all your strength, power just like politics should be local because no matter how cosmopolitan you are, the first point of call either at where you live or work is your local government.

Intricately and because of the kind of government system we practice in Nigeria, aside from the local government level of governance, the two most important strata of governance that is saddled with legislating to represent the need of their localities are the state house of assembly and the federal lawmakers. Because of how the state governors totally pocket the state assembly, preference will be given to the federal lawmakers with a narrow down to the green chambers because of a more narrow scope in the constituencies they represent.

Legislating does not only involves raising of hands to concur, it goes beyond moving motions on issues or national emergencies, it also goes beyond speaking brighter grammar. It is however the best practice to put your best foot forward first, that is, send the best man for the job to do the job. It is called putting round pegs in round holes.

I have had interactions with different aspirants across our constituency I have heard rumours of those who are still warming up and in my small head, I have had to imagine what every one of them will bring to the table if elected.

I may be biased but life itself isn’t fair to all, I do not have that tingly inner exhilaration in my imaginative mind about other aspirants filling the space in the green chamber come 2023 like I do whenever my imaginative heed switches to that of Olaiya Micheal Olobatoke and I will tell you why.

I have had to ask him why he wants to run for this legislative seat against so many odds and his responses were the reason my mind leaps for joy knowing full well that for a long time since the creation of Kogi state, Kabb/Bunu/Ijumu will have an aspirant and hopefully, a HOR member whose core value and constituent is with his locality and who will legislate and lobby with a human face.

Imagine Olaiya Michael Olobatoke as your next HOR member, what does he bring to the table?

An astute entrepreneur, Olaiya Michael Olobatoke is a complete grass-root personality. Because he grew in his locality and at least spent his first fifteen years around Kabba and environ, Otunba Olaiya has the full grasp of what his constituent will need to stand tall in the league of constituencies.

A local man to the core, OMO is a great lobbyist. He knows where the shoe pinches, he knows where to lobby and what projects to attract to his constituency with his full lobbying weight. He won’t be selfish, he has never been.

A man with great native intelligence, Otunba Olaiya understands the implications of good education, he knows that majority of the problem that bedevils the nation in the area of kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling and insurgency emanated from the nations falling and failing educational standards. He understands that one of the reasons an Okun indigene will stand tall anywhere in the world is because we are vast in education. He knows that our local educational system which he passed through cannot be said to be as virile as what was obtainable in the time past. He also knows that a legislative emergency is needed if we will intend to witness successes and progress as of old.

A former NAN staff and a good journalist and communication strategist himself, OMO knows the value of communication. He does not intend to leave a communication gap, he sees his constituency as more of home rather than his office at the National Assembly. He will literarily hold periodic town hall meetings at different communities if he is given the chance to represent his people; this is to feel their pulse always and know where and what are their immediate priorities.

Otunba Olaiya knows the value of research and evaluation, this method he intends to employ at every period all the way. I am very sure that evaluating and re-evaluating will lead to prioritising, lobbying and securing needed employment opportunities for the fresh and young graduates which is also an issue that cannot be overemphasized.

Age on his side, his youthfulness, strong will, respect for elders plus passion to see Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu on a great level will not allow him to rest on his oars if allowed the opportunity to serve as our HOR member.

Take a deep breath, read and re-read all these laudable intentions which are woven around his adequate preparation and tell me if you will not be excited at the prospect of allowing him to represent us. He will certainly surpass our expectations.

Just like me, imagine his emergence, think it, work it, act it and let’s make it happen.

Christianity EtcRest TB Joshua, Rest! by Temibi(op): 8:38am On Jul 10, 2021
By Obafemi Babajide

I had never been a fan of Temitope Balogun Joshua, I didn't hate him but I didn't like him either. This may be born out of the orthodox path to Christianity in which I grew into, even when I drifted into the Pentecostal side, I did so without my eyes fully closed. I might also not like him because of some harrowing experiences I went through as a kid in the hands of money mongers, self-styled prophets that thronged our house; it might also be because of the believes and stories surrounding him. I even ban anyone from watching Emmanuel TV in my house, I also remembered flinging off his church stickers which made their way into my living room, that is how much I detested him. Although, I never did a fact check but I just didn't like him and to twist the truth now is to writhe in lies.

Much as I do not like him, his death came as a rude shock to me, truth is, no one is super-human, but one would just think that with all the powers, anointing or grace that some men of God carry, death at some certain age or time is practically evitable. Fact is, because of the status they assume, we turn them to the god of men instead of men of God.

I had argued with some friends that he (TB Joshua) will wake up, I jokingly said at a time that it was probably a stunt, all these words I later regretted big time. Although I didn't go back to those I argued with to withdraw my statement back but deep down in me I realised it was a joke taken too far, so, I silently begged for forgiveness and quietly withdrew all my blasphemous words, after all, am not God and I wasn't the one who called him or who would judge him. As a human being, I am also with a lot of frailties, so, I am equally fallible.

The death of TB Joshua taught me few lessons, as much as that, his burial further taught me more.

Lesson number one: that no matter your status, greatness or closeness to the maker, death is inevitable; as inevitable as it is, only a few people will be allowed to know their set time. Beware, be prepared and always have an exit plan if you can.

Lesson number two: all your secret deeds shall be exposed while you are gone. They may be positives or negatives, all, everything will be laid bare. Just like we see a lot of good testimonies about TB Joshua, in fact, his good deeds to me outweigh his errors (if there are any). Nations stood still for him, encomium came from different quarters, unbelievable testimonies alluded to him made my ears tingle, people wept not because a prophet died but because a benefactor was lost.

Lesson number three: that one should be kind, good and try to affect humanity positively always. All works will be tested with fire, the good ones will stand like steel, the bad ones will burn off instantly. TB Joshua stood positively for humanity, humanity rose to bid him farewell when he was going to depart, whatever he did wrong will not matter anymore, nobody cares, nobody will listen. All we know now is how he fed the downtrodden, how he helped the widow, how he supported communities and nations and what he did to raise those who are down. Not what he did wrong, never will that matter anymore because his good deeds far outweigh them.

Either TB Joshua was called by God or not matters less now, no one was there when he was called, after all, God's ways are far from man's. He, like every other person will be solely answerable for their deeds. He has lived a good life, an unrivalled record of humanitarian services and giftings have been set. What more could anyone have asked for?

When will it be your turn?
