Ogundre: Ok. thanks, I am yet to get my PR card so I assume I have to wait till I get it before I can link with my CIC account.
Please expatiate on what u mean by active assist subsidy for recreation facilities. What is it about pleacse. You have to link your PR application as soon as you land before you receive PR card. Active assist subsidy is for residents of Ontario to enjoy recreational facilities like swimming etc, Brampton gives $275 credit per person * the No's of family members per year. Program differs by city. You can get information on it from the city's website |

Ogundre: Hello People,
Greetings from Toronto. I got in here 11 days ago, everything has been fine so far and hoping to get a job soon as i have done a telephone interview with a bank and I was told the second stage of telephone interview will hold next week.
I actually got a job 4 days after I landed as I had two stage interviews for a marketing job but I turned it down as it wasn't what I wanted, it was about marketing credit cards to people at stores and salary was based on commission meaning i only get paid based on the number of sales i make per day.
Anyway, I have a question to ask please. For a British citizen, does the person need to go through same process as we all went through writing IELTS, ECA etc for Express Entry or Provincial nomination to migrate to Canada or there is a special process for them being that they colonized Canada. Please anyone with similar experience should helpwith responses.
And please apart from SIN, BANK ACCOUNT, DRIVERS LICENCE, HEALTH CARD, is there any other thing one needs to register for?
Thank you You still have child benefit to apply for if you have kids, active assist subsidy to get access to subsidy for recreational facilities, link your PR card application to your CIC account too |

Kindly help out again. I am packing beans, yam flour etc, please do I have to wrap such stuff with foil, clingfilm and put in ziploc? Or that packaging only applies to spices and fish? Urgent response anyone please, I need to tidy up by tomorrow, thanks MummyJaygirls: Thanks
I used “GMG” and some really big travelling bags that don’t have tyres or rods, just cloth. I wrapped with foil, cling film and put in ziploc bags |

That's not true, I also got my PPR in August while still pregnant. XX01: It's an assumption. People like Vcole got it before their due date. |

Hi Salford, I am wondering if some of what I have been hearing about elementary schools in Canny not up to Nigerian standard in terms of curriculum is what will make some parents send kids back to Naija to school. From what I heard, the schools don't challenge kids academically as Naija schools do, they hardly even give them homeworks. Parents have to get extra lessons at some cost. Then there is the talk of elementary schools rating, I have actually seen the ratings of Ontario schools online. How does one choose the right school for kids in Ontario. Can you or anyone here share experience and advise on how to get the best Catholic or public school for elementary students. Thanks salford1: There are families here with kids sent back to attend government funded boarding schools in Nigeria. |

@ Eddycross, I know it is possible to leave naira in your Gtb account in Nigeria, then get to Canny and get naija forex agents there who can exchange dollar for you while you transfer to their naira account in Naija. That is what we intend to do as we will be landing Ontario next week. However, with this post, I am wondering if this transfer method saves more money than our own plan. Please advise. eddycross: Thanks A555, and especially for the breakdown.
I took alt3r3g0's recommendation and chatted GT via live chat. Below is the response they gave me.... it jives with your being charged 6K.
The charges are 0.5% or 10unit as commission amount, 5% vat on the commission, N6000 telex copy, and 25usd correspondent bank charge. However, if the source of deposit into the account is a cash deposits and you are transferring out you are charged 2% as commission,And 5% vat on the commission . |

@mummyJaygirls, Congrats on your landing. Pls what type of bags did u use to pack the foodstuff? Did you use regular travel bags or our " Ghana must go" bags.Is there a special wat to package food stuff? We are due to land in February. Thanks MummyJaygirls: We used Ethiopia airline, Flight was scheduled for 1.10pm out of naija. We left the house at 8.30am and got there in good time, we had 11 check in bags (paid for 1 extra bag), 5 hand luggages, 2 laptop bags and 3 children trolley bags, hehehe, me sef tire for the load(family of 5).
All our bags were 30kg except 1 which was 20kg cos customs removed my palm oil (nonsense) my palm kernel and coconut oil made it thru, (maybe cos they were in smaller bottles)
Flight was on time, children were excited to be moving to a country with snow and made out plans of how they would play in d snow (too much cartoon) lol. Inflight entertainment was ok, food (rice) was saltless but we chop am like that, before hunger go kill purzon above sea level.
We got to Ethiopia on time, waited like for 2-3 hours before proceeding to Dublin (they changed crew and some other “minene” we didn’t leave d plane) after like 40 minutes we were off again to Toronto, got there in good time but the queue at d airport for all d registration (stamping of copr and getting of sin) made us miss our connecting flight to Edmonton but we were fixed for the next one and the attendant was nice to check in all our hand luggages (free at last)
Flight from Toronto to Edmonton is 4-5 hours inside one country. I had read someone’s post somewhere where he/she said no free food on air Canada so I wasn’t expecting anything as I no get money to buy, I positioned myself well to sleep then someone tapped me and asked what I’d like to eat, first thing I said was I don’t want to buy, (I no Dey for gbese o) then she said, your ticket comes with a meal, o boy see as I asked for big sandwich, hehehe.
We got to Toronto, went to baggage pickup and only 4 made the trip with us, we went to complain and our details was taken and told they would give us a call when they arrive, all bags came in later that night.
I noticed one of my bags had been opened and a nylon containing detergent was torn open, I guess they thought it was hard drugs (so those of u planning to transport those things be careful o, dem go catch u)
We arrived the day snow decided to start falling again. As at today it’s -29
We got home to already cooked food, yippie!!!
All in all the journey was ok, the children behaved themselves especially my 2 year old that I was really concerned about.
This is the end of my story, thank you. |

Hello, please apart from bank account balance, what can be used as POF for ONIP? My account balance does not hold the required settlement fund at the moment and I have received a letter from Ontario. Is valuation of properties like house, acceptable, with the intention to sell once PR is approved? olyveoyl: Two ways, one let the person register in one of the job banks, look through jobs that matches his profile or career and then apply. You can then print out the acknowledgement of the application and include it (you can do about six or seven) I think they just want to see the applicants seriousness and effort in researching about the province Second is to write a letter of intent that shows why you chose Ontario over other provinces. This is easy as you just google the internet and find quick facts about the province and why it appeals to you in terms of weather, job opportunities, nice to raise a family, popular destination for migrants and so on. Also note that the few rejections have seen is when people are not able to prove their work experience or NOC does not match reference letter. Your friend should be fine. |

Hello house,
Please does anyone have knowledge of how i can get cheap direct flight to Atlanta for July?
Also, I renewed my expired & unused B1/B2 visa through Dropbox in January and stated visiting as purpose but I will not be visiting before I go to deliver my baby in July. Is that okay pls? I have previously had a baby on B1/B2 visa few years back, i paid all bills & visited US after then without issues. Thank you |
