The salary breakdown of Nigeria’s new President, Muhammadu Buhari, and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, has been made public. The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which is statutorily empowered by Section 32 (d) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution to determine the remuneration appropriate for political office holders, published the information on its website. Buhari and Osinbajo will earn annual basic salaries of N3, 514, 705 and N3, 031, 572.50 respectively. The President is also entitled to various regular allowances apart from his basic salary, such as; Hardship, 50 per cent of the basic salary – N1, 757, 350.50; consistency – 250 per cent, N8, 786, 762.50. Other regular allowances like motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security and Newspapers and periodicals are to be provided by the government – not paid for. Allowances like accommodation, furniture, and duty tour allowance (per night), estacode (per night) and medical allowances are also to be provided as requested. The allowances are paid periodically, some monthly, a few once in four years. Duty Tour Allowance and Estacode depend on travels. After adding up all allowances, Buhari will earn N1, 171,568.33 and and N14, 058, 820.00 yearly. As for the Vice President, Osinbajo, he will earn N1, 010, 524.17 monthly, and N12, 126,290.00 in a year. Breakdown down of allowances: The president’s severance gratuity is N10, 544, 115, that is 300 per cent of basic; he is entitled to a leave allowance of N351, 470. 50, (10 per cent of basic salary) and an optional motor vehicle loan of N14, 058, 820, at 400 per cent to be repaid before the expiration of the president’s tenure. In addition to allowances like; motor vehicle, feeding and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment utility, security, newspaper and periodicals; Osinbajo will also get Hardship, Consistency, Severance gratuity and Leave allowance set at N1, 515, 786.25; N7, 578, 931.25; N9, 094, 717.50 and N303, 157.25 respectively. He will also receive a motor vehicle loan at 400 per cent of his basic salary which is N12, 126, 290; to be repaid at the expiration of his tenure. The RMAFC reviewed the salary structure in 2007, following the salary structure review and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders earlier carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission, which took effect on May 1, 2000 – after the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. The former president’s basic annual salary was N2,586,000 per annum, while that of his deputy, Atiku Abubakar was N1,938,000, the same as that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Senate President. http://pulse.ng/politics/buhari-osinbajo-salary-breakdown-what-president-vice-president-will-earn-id3813407.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share |

Two criminals, Banji Adedayo(40) and Tope Daramola (45) who escaped prison during the Ekiti-state jail break in December 2014 have been re-arrested by the Ondo state police command for armed robbery. Parading the men alongside other criminals before newsmen today, the Ondo state police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, said the suspects, after escaping from prison, joined a five man armed robbery gang that have been terrorizing Akure since March this year. See more photos after the cut.. They were apprehended after they robbed one Mr. Remidayo Komolafe of his Toyota Sienna Bus with Reg. No. KJA 790 CH, valued at N1.6 million on Ondo Road in Akure. They also forcefully collected five mobile phones from the victim, valued at N200,000 as well as other possessions. “Upon police interrogation [the men] confessed to the crime and other robbery cases, including an Ekiti State bank robbery, and both were inmates who escaped from Ekiti jailbreak,” he said. The Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has taken a swipe at the Adamu Mu’azu- led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. According to him, Mu’azu and his NWC members are a disaster and that they must be sacked for the party to survive. Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode said: “The present leadership of the party, particularly its information organs, stand no chance against an APC Federal Government because they are weak and they lack understanding and courage. “They will be savaged beyond belief and torn apart if they try it because they do not have the stomach, the grit, the appetite or the wherewithal for a long drawn fight. “They are simply incapable of defending the President and his legacies after he has left office and neither are the majority of them even ready to do so. Instead of focusing on their numerous inadequacies and trying to fix them, these very same people are hurling brick bats at others. “Instead of preparing to defend the party and enhancing the fortunes of the party members over the next four years, they are making childish and nonsensical allegations and alienating and upsetting many party leaders.” The NWC had blamed President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat at the last election on the hate campaign initiated by the campaign organisation, saying the President’s campaign team ruined the President’s chances. Reacting to the crushing defeat the PDP suffered at the last election, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, complained that the NWC was sidelined in the campaign and that the entire campaign funds were placed under the control of the President’s campaign organisation. But Fani-Kayode described the claim as nonsensical and unadulterated rubbish, adding that their actions were fueled by hate and envy. He retorted: “What the NWC said about us is undoubtedly the unkindest cut of all. It is like Brutus’ betrayal of Julius Caesar. It is wicked, uncharitable and unacceptable and some of us will not take it. “What they need to understand and appreciate is that we will not sit by idly and allow them re-write history or make us the fall guys. The only reason we have not opened up on them is out of respect for President Jonathan and because we want to ensure that our party remains united. “They are indeed the enemy within. The truth is that their allegation is not only baseless but it is also unadulterated rubbish and those who made them are nothing but ingrates, cowards and traitors who know nothing about politics, political campaigns, intellectual discourse or political engagement. “They are simply trying to revise and re-write history in order to cover up their treachery, weaknesses and inadequacies. They are fueled by hate and envy and worse of all, right from the start, they had no interest in fighting for our leader and presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan or in ensuring that he won the election. “From day one, all they did was sulk about the fact that a Presidential Campaign Organisation had been set up and that they would not be able to have control of the campaign themselves or have access to the resources that we were given. “At every point, they tried to undermine our efforts and sabotage us but we ignored them and remained focused on doing our job despite their provocations. “From day one, all they were interested in was in controlling others and telling them what to do. They were not in the fray, they refused to enter the heat of battle and all they did was moan and bicker from the side walk like little children.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/polls-muazu-others-ruined-jonathan-chances-fani-kayode/ |

There is a cold War between the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. The Nation gathered that the State Working Committee (SWC) was angry with the Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu-led NWC for refusing to approve the suspension of the state Chairman, Col. Sam Inokoba (rtd). Inokoba was suspended by the SWC on February 10, before the March 28 presidential election, over allegations bordering on financial impropriety. Among other things, he was said to have diverted N40million out of N70million donated to the state PDP for a presidential rally by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke. The suspension order was reportedly sent to the NWC for ratification as recommended by the party’s constitution. It was, however, gathered that the NWC refused to approve the suspension which the supporters of Inokoba and the camp of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, alleged was masterminded by the state Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson and his loyalists. Irked by the development, the SWC reportedly took the NWC to a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja The party’s Vice-Chairman in Bayelsa Central, Secretary, Women Leader, Vice-Chairman Bayelsa East and Financial Secretary were quoted as plaintiffs in the suit No. CV/1252/15. They reportedly challenged the refusal of the NWC to approve a purported suspension of Inokoba. But the SWC denied dragging Mu’azu and members of the NWC to court, saying the party only sought a court order to stop suspended Inokoba from parading himself as the chairman of the party in the state. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/chairmans-suspension-tears-bayelsa-pdp-apart/ |

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, says the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, was not totally committed to the party during the elections, claiming that Mu’azu even had a secret meeting with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Fayose said this during a programme on Channels TV titled, View from the Top, on Monday. He said, “Shortly before my election, he (Mu’azu) was to see me and I waited for him in his house for about five hours and then he came out to say he was sorry and that we should give him space. He said the Yoruba people should give him some space because he was expecting someone who did not want to see any Yoruba man. “I left his house but kept a tab on him. His house is like a ring road and I came back to find out who had come to see him and the person was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. That is the truth. When I returned to his house, he told me that I should not be annoyed that it was Tinubu that came to visit him. “I was worried because the Ekiti election was just five days away and I almost lost my breath.” Fayose stressed that Mu’azu was not committed to the party as he was often absent when the party needed him the most. He noted that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, won the presidential election because Nigeria wanted a change. He, however, argued that Buhari garnered a majority of the votes in the North because the people of the North felt it was their turn to rule and President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the South, should not have been in power because the late President Umaru Yar’Adua did not complete his tenure. Fayose said despite Buhari’s massive northern support, the PDP should have been able to get more than 10 per cent of the total votes cast in Bauchi State. He wondered why the PDP failed to get up to 10 per cent of the votes in Bauchi State despite the PDP having a sitting governor, a minister and the national chairman as indigenes of the state. He said, “The day the presidential election held, the chairman was not in the country. On the day the names of our candidates were to be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, our chairman was in Lagos, on his way to Singapore. “I was with President Jonathan on that day and I told him to call him. The President did not know that Mu’azu was in Lagos on his way to Singapore. Even when he travelled recently, he said he had a problem with his left hand and wanted to travel abroad for treatment. “However, he called some people and told them that he had deceived the President. You must be consistent in character. I am saying everything on camera; let him come out to deny these allegations. I don’t want to be in a PDP where we have betrayers of all sorts.” While reacting to the Ekiti ‘rigging tape’, Fayose said it was his voice that was recorded on the tape but argued that it was edited in such a way that could mislead Nigerians. He also noted that the then Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, was part of the meeting. Mu’azu, however, denied ever meeting Tinubu. He further advised Fayose to concentrate on governance and leave him alone. Mu’azu, who considered Fayose as a younger brother, said he was not interested in exchanging words with him on the pages of newspapers. The PDP national chairman who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Tony Amadi, said, “I will advise Fayose to concentrate on raising the Internally Generated Revenue of Ekiti State so that he can pay workers’ salaries and deliver the dividends of democracy instead of dissipating his energy chasing shadows. Tinubu has never been to the chairman’s office. I don’t know where he got that from. www.punchng.com/politics/muazu-met-tinubu-before-ekiti-gov-poll-fayose/ |
