Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Fast Food Or Inec Job by tenhap(m): 3:33pm On Mar 15, 2007
Level 10 in INEC, pay should be 40-something k. Where u r posted would determine a lot and of course, ur kind of person. If u are sent to HQ in Abuja, u'll have to make frantic efforts to 'key in' else, the work go just tire u real soon. If u key in properly, u stand to make a lot by the side by way of training, runs, etc. On the other hand, if u are sent to a state office, then u'll probably pray u r made an EO(Electoral Officer). That way, u go dey see small small juice from those im power (govt house, etc) and come election period (like now), u'll sure make a lot even without playing dirty.
Apart from these two scenarios, u may not find the place so palatable. However, i am told there is a plan to enhance their salary (that plan has been in the pipeline for as long as i can remember anyway).
I give u all this first hand gist cause i worked in INEC for 5 yrs before i left in 2005. I still have many friends there.
Anyway, best of luck and please, Pray Hard.
Sports / Re: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by tenhap(m): 11:20am On Mar 12, 2007
It definitely cannot be Cesc Fabregas. That boy is definitely good! On a good day, everything passes thru him watch watch watch!
Cristiano Ronaldo? Definitely not. That guy even b4 being at the top of his game has always been a high performance player.
Rooney? Hmmmn not very sure.
Mikel? (sorry i am supposed to be patriotic) but i think so. Except of course he shows something better.
Career / Re: Why Should NNPC And LNG Discriminate Between 2-1 And 2-2? by tenhap(m): 1:01pm On Feb 01, 2007
I know a friend who made a 2.2 and was recruited alongside others in NNPC. This was in 2002 and he is still there. On another note, it is natural to tilt towards a particular feeling (for or against), depending on what grade u made urself. I for one, made a 2.2 and i always felt bad when i saw adverts that specified a minimum of a 2.1. That was my lot. Truth remains there are lots of other places u get better pay here in naija than LNG and all u need is ur 2.2, pass their tests/interview and above all (believe it or not) talking to God about every job u apply for and making some promises to Him.
Family / Re: Can You Marry A Former Prostitute? by tenhap(m): 11:46am On Jan 18, 2007
Well, the answer to this question depends on one's perception. There are no rules to what u can accept. I for one would probably spend the rest of my life wondering how on earth she could develop the intimate feelings meant solely to be expressed between married couples during sex. Even if she does express it sincerely, i would be tempted to think she's only trying to make me happy.
Having relationships and the sex that 'may' go with them while not married is completely different from setting up a 'business concern' for yourself as a prostitute! Going the whole length means u are capable of anything (repented or otherwise)!!!
Culture / Re: Thunder Bolt (Magun): Myth Or Reality? by tenhap(m): 12:36pm On Jan 10, 2007
I believe it exists for 2 reasons, if nothing more:

1: I witnessed 1st hand a native doctor chant incantations and clear a piece of land. At each stroke of the matchet, the intended target (a cockerel) spasmed in agony. By the time the portion was completely cleared, the cockerel was dead! This  i saw myself.

2: In my childish ignorance, i was party to 'spinning the bible' sometime in secondary school (the Good Lord forgive me). I SAW the bible spin myself!!!

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF GOOD OR EVIL!!
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Peanut Take Home Pay by tenhap(m): 11:02am On Nov 22, 2006
Well, it all depends on the guy. No one person can tell u when it's time to move on in life.
My first salary in the year 2000 was 8k plus, i worked in that same Organization for 5 years!!
I only got to leave last year and by then, my salary had 'risen' to 35k!!!
I finally made the move last year, and now i earn above 6times my last salary.
The fact is, all thru those 5 years, i kept pushing and trying to change jobs and guess what? I have not stopped!!
Bottom line is God will always see u thru.
Education / Re: Any Lion/lioness 8) by tenhap(m): 11:37am On Oct 02, 2006
I see nothing wrong with the question. Guess he's only trying 2 identify with people who can 'roar' 2gether!!
'hhhhhhmmmmmmmmm'!
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Unicef Technical Test by tenhap(m): 8:28am On Jul 11, 2006
Hi mekusoil,
Good to know the Technical Test went well.
I pray u get the job. I bet u will enjoy it.
All that's left is to wait. Since u were not also interviewed on the same day, it is likely u may be called for an interview
if u do well in the test.

Goodluck!

Hi Jiro,
the best way to sell urself via ur CV is to ensure u take ur time to compose it.
Highlight ur skill set and make urself the best candidate possible for the job.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Unicef Technical Test by tenhap(m): 8:02am On Jul 06, 2006
Hi Jiro,
In answer to your question, working in the UN is all about what openings are available and how qualified u are to fill any of those positions.
Often times, job adverts are published in the dailies but in some cases, they are not. Yet in other cases, adverts get to already working staff as Internal Vacancies and after some time they
are made external.
Within the limits, it may not be possible to have someone influence ur recruitment. What i mean is that to the best of my knowledge, recruitment is free and fair. U need some previous
job experience to be shortlisted for tests/interviews. What would most likely get u to be shortlisted would be how u sell urself in ur CV i think. U get to see banners like "Only candidates
under serious consideration would be invited for tests/interviews" at the bottom of most adverts. This gets the message across that u need to take time to sell urself in ur application and CV.
Job openings come up from time to time and it may take u checking out the dailies and also having someone on the inside inform u of such vacancies.
All sorts of people are recruited depending on the need (Doctors, Pharmacists, Microbiologists, IT, Nurses, Accountants, just name it. Even HND and OND holders). It all depends on the need.
I for one i work as an IT personnel.
If u are a degree/HND holder, u need ur NYSC cert. If u r an OND holder, u may be recruited as an Office assistant or Admin clerk (pay is still very reasonable).
I do not know if i have answered ur questions?

Goodluck!

Like i mentioned, u should have some good idea of preparing budgets from disjointed data.
U need to know a lot about Office Practice. Raising vouchers, processing payments, salaries, arranging events, etc.
Have basic PC usage knowledge too.
Also read this excerpt:

Description

Administrative assistants perform a range of administrative tasks in an organisation.

Administrative assistants may perform the following tasks:

sort and distribute incoming mail to areas and staff within the organisation, and despatch outgoing mail
write business letters, reports or office memoranda using word-processing equipment
answer telephone enquiries from customers, attend to visitors and assist other staff in the organisation with their enquiries
operate a range of office machines such as photocopiers, computers and faxes
file papers and documents so that they can be easily found when needed
undertake other duties such as banking, credit control or payroll functions.
With experience and sometimes further study, advancement to higher positions, such as office administrator, record keeper, front line manager or legal administrator, is possible.

Administrative assistants may be required to carry out numerous tasks in a small office, or to concentrate on just one or two specific tasks in a larger office.

Administrative assistants usually work indoors, and may work alone or in a team with other administrative assistants, professional and technical staff and tradespeople. Experienced administrative assistants may undertake more complex tasks and responsibilities.

People employed under state or territory clerical employees' awards are classified according to the level of skill and competency that they are required to exercise.

Personal Requirements:

able to work methodically, accurately and neatly
good oral and written communication skills
able to work as part of a team.

Now u are closer to it. I did mention to u that GMAT would do little or nothing.
I have asked questions.
In my AA's case, the Technical test was about preparing a budget for an Organization.
Disoriented data was presented and they were required to prepare a budget for the organization.
Questions were also asked on Office Practice. This u should know too.
There was also a session where they were required to reproduce a document with the PC (test of pc skills).
So, now u got a lead.

** Note in the UN System, the AA translates to a job Category of at least GS 6. This means u should have some wealth of experience.
Unicef normally would start u on a fixed term contract of 2 years. I bet u will enjoy this job if u get it!!! Do ur best!!!!!
Goodluck.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Unicef Technical Test by tenhap(m): 9:48am On Jul 04, 2006
Hi,
First i would love to know if u r being invited for an Aptitude Test. I doubt anyway.
An AA (Administrative Assistant) is responsible for a wide range of things.
Here In WHO for instance, the AA is responsible for all finance-related issues (salaries, payments, arranging for venues for meetings, etc).
I believe this gives u a bright picture.
So in summary, i think you need to get past the GMAT stuff alone. You may be required to demonstrate ur ability to manage finances and other administrative duties.
Here for instance, every financial transaction is entered to a special package meant for same. It goes without saying then that u must be computer literate.
Also note that ur performance at the oral interview would be the final joker. The guys u r gonna meet would look out for that thing that makes u stand out from the rest.
Do not be bedecked with anxiety. Do ur best to be prepared and above all NEVER forget to hand it over to God!

Hi, this is actually my first post.
I for one work with The World Health Organization which is part or the United Nations, just like UNICEF. What's more, we even share premises in my location.
What i know for sure is that the test would test your mastery of the skills required for the job position applied for.
What i mean is that, u need to demonstrate competence as per the job position u intend to fill.
Most times, jobs in the UN require finished (adept) products.

Goodluck!
