NIGERIA: THE HELL OF A NATION AND THE TRAVESTY FROM WORSE TO A GARBAGE By: Lateef Adewale Been a Nigerian can be gratifying, yet disappointing because of the challenges and usual awkwardness at the face of disappointment on national affairs. For those who tasted the sauce in the pre-independent era and those who were born few years after the independent, it will be a rare testament of a tale far confusing to compare the past with the presents as the country continue to struggle and dwindle in the hand of opportunist leaders. Coming out of the colonial rule, the independent looked promising as people were pretty confidence it would inspire development and lay the foundation for better Nigeria where common will of the people will be achievable without any complication. What appeared a mission, a vision and aspiration for the nationalist fathers soon appeared the bane on which the future of the country is ruined. Certain issues that were abandon for the cause of independent began to reappear and the political elites worsened it with their claims of ethnic superiority, prowess and potentials. It was realistically impossible to integrate the diverse culture, customs and realities of each ethnic group that were bonded to stand as one Nigeria. Had it not being for the adoption of regional system, the whole adventure would have ended at the initial stage of the independent. However the issue of power concentration was still a problem because there was a feeling that the regional system did not favor a particular tribe, or rather, put a tribe in advantage over the others. And with the activities of the political parties in each of the region there was need to set up national parties where each ethnicity would be represented. At first, it was aimed to foster unity and the spirit of togetherness but it would only promote selfishness, greediness and sentimentalism which were some of the reasons responsible for military intervention. Maybe Nigerians deserve apology from the military set up who forced themselves into power by means of violence and conspiracies. Undoubtedly they had no idea of what leadership meant, in their own term any officer that was able to plot his sting successfully was qualified enough to hijack the government. There was no justification for military rule, and the country will rue the consequences as long as there is room for retired officers in our democratic settings. The most regrettable error of the men in khaki was Biafra war, where thousands of Nigerians were killed in cold blood by engrossed officers who did not want peace for the country. No matter how much we tried to erase the sad memories, the unborn generation would know that the foundation of a better Nigeria was ruined by retired ex military head of states and their officer's. Another highlight of military flaw was annulment of MKO Abiola June 1993 election by General Ibrahim Babangida who claimed to be influenced by northern leaders at the time to deny Abiolas mandate. It was a pure act of criminality and deserved to face the wrath of the law when the country returned to civilian rule but the northern leaders were so quick to figure out what could be a deserving punishment for Babangida and that led to selection of one of their cabal from Yoruba land who could pretend to be a messiah he did not fit to be. If there was any opportunity for Nigeria to break, it was in 1999 because it was meant to inspire new dynamics but years later the whole plan began to pan out as military agenda continue to dominate democratic dispensation. The reality is simple, Nigeria will never grow inasmuch as we continue to give space for any retire military officerat any level of government. There should be no room for them because the blood of innocent Nigerians that were killed during Biafra war and June 12 1993 incident would continue to curse their governance. The Obasanjo/Atiku regime will forever be remember for lack of direction and misconception on what is good or bad for the people of Nigeria which amount to administrative war, segregation and political bidding throughout their second term in office. Prior to last election Obasanjo and Atiku were sworn enemies who still nursed their political hullabaloo for an agenda not related to the benefit of Nigerians in any respect. Which government has ever care? , perhaps one, but it was unfortunate he didn’t last his tenure. He was the only president ever in the history of Nigeria who truly understand his role and the essence of the office on the day to day survival of Nigerians. A Nigeria president must be working, thinking and acting for Nigerians. In a situation where you have personalities that are working for themselves, running a selfish agenda under a certain president, then that president is a president of himself, his family and his political parties. We are who we are today, and where we are because we have not had any president who practically fits the role, someone who understand the core values of emotion and salvation. Not every messiah must be a Jesus, The great Nelson Mandela sacrificed his ego to steer a course against apartheid era in South Africa and he became a global hero after the struggle. As our national anthem stated , our heroes had live in the past. We always pray that their struggle for independence should never be in vain and yet we continue to have villains at the helms of affair. In the most realistic sense, the current Nigeria is more like a nude experiment at a market square by sets of individuals practicing madness. It is only in Nigeria that the qualities of a good governance is only read in book. No teacher in his/her good sense would reckon any of Nigeria president during military or democratic era as an exemplary leader to his or her student. And yet, we vote during every election. Governance is a social contract and the contribution of each parties involves should be respected regardless of who wield the supreme authority. In this climate where government engages professional liars in governance, it is challenging to find connection between what is said, what is done and the way things are run from the federal level to the local governments. Over the years, Nigerians have been facing much the same difficulties which are lack of basic amenities, inflation and hike in exchange rate. meaning, It has taken Nigeria more than 60 years still struggling to provide basic infrastructures despite our resource's and the rates of government borrowing. The lack of transparency and accountability in the system has made it so easy for government to just borrow whatever trillions they desire when their usual money-hunger syndrome began instead of investing on national development. Nigeria politics is the biggest fraud in the whole world. There is No difference between our political parties, or the office holders. We are operating a system where there is no distinguished factors between political parties or their outputs. The drama that has surrounded the Edo governorship election should be enough to embarrass the political elites. The desperation engulfing the pre-election process is not good for the people of the states presently or for future and it raise questions about the need for governance when none of the competing parties had ever done any good for the people of the state. Our chance to effect change is so thin and seem unrealistic. It would only take a abusive husband to let go of a beautiful wife except there is a purposeful in-law who would not want their daughter to die untimely. A thief will always try everything possible to get away from the scene either by killing or intimidate them. And this is exactly the state of affairs in the country where common people has become a sacrificial lamb and a tool to get to power. What has any president, governors, and senators offered the masses? Death, poverty, unemployment, degradation and even putting the country and states on external debts far beyond what a messiah would be capable to pay off. Governance should be made for those who have the academic and mental capacity to interpret the roles and responsibilities of the government. In the past, we have had series of individual whose abilities were not best for leadership roles. And it was evident in their performance and interpretation of issues. Most times it is hard to find the relationship between what people want and what government consider necessary because they just don’t know what a particular situation demands and lack the pragmatic capacity to tackle problems. For instance, security issues in the north has persisted beyond normalcy and yet it would continue from administration to another without clarity or particular effort to surmount insurgency or fish out their sponsors’. The league of the past administration and the present have questions to answer!, Nigerians needs to know why the country has become ungovernable, why our common problems are unsolvable and perhaps why we cannot do whatever it takes to secure the future of the country. The administration of former President Good luck Jonathan was ruined by mockery and pre-planned activities to sabotage the affairs of the country. Rather than giving strategic advises, the opposition party was having fun when Nigerians were getting killed like chickens. Our Democracy is beyond tragedy, far worse than the anguish of the slave trade era to the common people. Nothing could be more devastating than been trapped in a political vicious circle and instead of encouraging positive changes, government continue to add to the predicament by usual trivialization of issues. For example, someone is alleged to have mismanaged public funds, he was summoned by set of Comedian in the Assembly and suddenly began to imagine himself in a theatre location where live and death is only determine by the scripts. In another scene, there was a reported case of embezzlement in certain ministry and the next minute they set the office on fire to escape probe. Or a certain officer is alleged for corruption, to avoid trial he jumps to the ruling party to have his corrupt cases buried without questioning. The road to the new Nigeria is clear, the only stumbling occlusion is our mindset. As a country, we are in a big mess. It will take radical approaches and tenacity to free our soul and mentality from political captivity which has not yield and will never account any good result for Nigerians. Some issues are surreptitious. The government perversion to reality is beyond democracy scope. If something is wrong, the essence of having government is to get it right. Our democratic journey has been hell and the greatest enemy of this country is the government. Taking responsibility is part of Democracy and to survive our present predicaments we may have to go extra length as people to pursue our desire. A nation needs purposeful leaders to excel. There is no known magic for development without the commitment of visionary leaders. In fact, the level of development in any country of the world often replicates the image and character of their leaders. 99% of Nigerians prayer would be answered if we are lucky enough to have a government that sees to the need of the people. A government that won't get trampled by the wishes of political Godfather's or play to the tune of selfish Allies. The recent accusations of the presidency against the northern elders on insecurity issues gives a clue about how useless the government has become. With almost half of the Federal government annual expenditure spent on insecurity in the North, the number of criminals, bandits and insurgents of different kind continues to multiply in the region. One thing is certain, it is either the security budget are being spent for the insurgents upkeep or shared by Northern Leaders and security chiefs. It is clear that our expensive political system is not ideal . It will never work because it attracts all form of corruption, tricks and drama that are purposefully designed to steal from national wealth by any possible means regardless of the effect on the masses. Our hope as people is restructuring and new constitution which will state clearly how the power should be rotated and how appointments will be shared among the ethnic diversity to address Northern Monopoly and reduced political prominence . Also, the reformation will also define punishment for corrupt politicians and re-assess the terms of operation of national forces among other things. We are in a generation where the youths have become delusional about the processes, sacrifices and perseverance it requires to get rich. The youths have turned corrupt politicians to role models because of expensive and extravagant lifestyle. And the consequence will be that those that are corrupt will continue to be corrupt and inspire more and more people to see corruption as usual norm. Any hope for desired Nigeria would remain fantasy, a dream and unimaginable nightmare with the degree of insanity and general decadence in our administrative system inspired by money-bag politics. until the people decides to break free from “ e nor concern me syndrome “ and speak in one voice against the usual subservient excuses in addressing our common problems, our power to effect changes will continue diminish until no hope remains for moral sanctity. |
9JA COVID: AGAINST THE INTEREST OF A COMMON MAN, AND THE STRUGGLE FOR SANITY IN OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM.......BY Lateef Isiaq Adewale It is no longer news that coronavirus has found its way to Nigeria due to carelessness, procrastination, and lack of direction on the part of the government. And yet, it remains to be seen whether there are enough facilities to contain the outbreak amidst the rising tension. Nigerians are under big threat now with the sort of panic media is generating and the influx of fake news from various sources on social media regarding covid-19. The virus is real, even though it seems more of a man-made. However, the death toll across Asia, Europe, and America are still not up to the amount of innocent Nigerians that had lost their lives during series of attacks by Boko Haram members since inception, not to talk of thousands of individuals that die annually for starvation, accidents, massacre, and jungle justice, all without a serious reaction from the government over the years. If the hunger virus is given the kind of media attention coronavirus is generating worldwide, all the Nigerian president from time past and present will surely be serving jail terms somewhere or possibly get stoned to death. The idea of self-isolation sounds pretty cool, but on a good day, people die naturally and that’s why the media needs to stop spreading fear to the extent of instigating pressure, panic on vulnerable people who cannot survive the isolation for more than a week without relief package. What is the hope of a common man on the streets who depends on the hustle to survive daily? The households that depend on the petty business, the unemployed youths, the low and middle-class salary earners in private sectors whose salary may be cut drastically or even lose their job when their companies no longer operate in this struggling period? The biggest threat is not the number of people that will contract the virus, but the number of common people that will suffer the consequences. Other countries that compel their citizens to self-isolation are not taking the welfare of their citizens for granted. Why do we have to create a bigger disaster trying to escape the hype-ones? What is the health record of those that have died due to coronavirus worldwide, what is their average age? What are the treatments for those who have survived it? Coronavirus to some extent was designed to be more effective in the number of targeted countries by the maker. I strongly believe Africa continents are only victims because of insensitive government. In Nigeria for instance, the federal government had the option to ban travel from and to the affected countries right from time but refused and rather prefer to suffer citizens than to have made simple decisions to stop flight operation. The affected government officials knew about the pandemic but they turned deaf ear and never resist traveling overseas for useless reasons. Simply put, There was no consideration for the commoners because they thought that the virus would probably target helpless Nigerians. Hundreds of poor Nigerians are dying on daily basis in various hospitals, thousands are begging for medical support across the country because of poor health care facilities, lack of urgency, and inability to afford expensive drugs. What about those that lose their lives annually in motor accidents due to bad roads or unemployed young individuals who had to take their own life out of depression? How many innocent Nigerians are dying from police assaults, insecurity, and wrongful convictions? They just don’t care about the masses. If Boko haram attacks had been given this much attention by the government at various levels, probably there would be no account of Chibok and Dapchi schoolgirls kidnap, bombings and massacre. No soldiers would have lost their lives fighting from a losing end without sophisticated weapons. If poverty, unemployment, hunger had equally been considered a national disaster, cases of depression, suicide, insecurity, armed robbery, and cybercrime would have been curtailed. Just in this same Nigeria, Fulani herdsmen were killing for fun, and the only solution from the federal was to start pleading for lands and safety of cows when families of the victims were in pain and agony. Up till this moment, the Fulani herdsmen are yet to be pronounced as a terrorist group. As it stands, the total number of covid-19 cases is 139, with only 2 death reported of the people that are already old enough to die. While do we have to frustrate ourselves over coronavirus, what is 139 out of over 180 million. The idea of lockdown without any relief distribution from the federal government is useless and a mere punishment to common people. Other countries with fewer cases ensure they have the record of those infected and keep them in self-isolating facilities where they are giving proper care. Just to show how useless our politicians think of common people, the Lagos State house of assembly is ready to introduce an N100, 000 fine, a jail term for coronavirus lockdown defaulters when the government should be allaying the tension. It is only in Nigeria we love to politicize everything, I strongly believe that the idea of lockdown is not for the safety of common people. if so, why is the federal government not providing for people? The idea was practically to stop the citizens from criticizing the government. Also, to ensure that citizens are left with no choice than to stick with infected leaders even though they are dying or not strong enough to continue their tenure from a sickbed. The news that Nigeria senators donate half of their salaries to tackle covid 19 should not be appearing on any newspaper page if we have serious media when we should be talking about the exotic cars they purchased with the huge amount of money much enough to sustain millions of Nigerians during this struggling time. There is no sanity in our governance, I repeat no sanity, just last month the senators stupidly agree to finance repentant Boko haram member and the federal government did not hesitate to release funds to sponsor criminals for various programs in abroad. And now that we have an apolitical related disaster, the welfare of well-behaved innocent Nigerians is of no interest to Mr. President. It is so displeasing that the majority of the people we vote into political offices are not aware of their responsibilities or otherwise forget it, believing is their family vote or wisdom that gets them into office. Where is Abacha looted fund, where is the money collected from Diezani, Olisah Metuh, and the others? It is needless to hide under coronavirus epidemic to shy away from criticism, a serious government will always take full responsibilities of its citizen predicaments, not sugar-coating vague developments. Anyone who read the presidential address on coronavirus would notice the insincerity of purpose. Any professor writing the presidential speech should not forget that Nigeria is falling because of their intellectual indiscipline. There is no reason for beautiful words without beautiful intents. Whoever wants to run for any political office should be versed enough to prepare their speech themselves. It has always been one of the banes of our failed democracy. How do we expect significant changes in government when the president is only reading another man thought to us from a script? The same applies to the senators, the majority of them usually employ writers to make up for their incompetence. Human beings are not immortal by nature. Any reports on covid -19 should not be misleading or condemn people to false hope. Most especially now that police and army are involved in this time of emergency curfew. People should expect harassment, assaults, deaths because the life of a common citizen is not worth a penny in this climate. They will not hesitate to man-handle anyone who defaults the lockdown for any reason. In conclusion, the idea of good governance to common people begins with a fight against hunger, poverty, and illiteracy. In a trial period like this, police should be going from house to house to distribute food items for isolated people. There is no way to cure a hungry man than to give him food. Forcing obedience is not the solution, common people deserve some respect. #stay safe

AGENCY FOR REPENTANT BOKO HARAM MEMBERS: A WIN OR LOSS FOR OUR DEMOCRACY …..By Lateef Isiaq Adewale Just few days after proposed agency for repentant Boko haram terrorists, the group launched fresh attack in which four police officers and two civilian militiamen were killed at a military base in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state on Wednesday, security sources told AFP. For more than a decade now, the north eastern part of the country, particularly Borno, Adamawa states has suffered from boko haram activities. About 36,000 people have been killed either through bomb attack, gunshot, slaughtering and over two million others have been displaced from their homes, villages, towns while countless number of young individuals have been separated from their parents. In April 2014, Boko Haram kidnapped 276 schoolgirls from Chibok. On 3 January 2015, Boko Haram attacked Baga, seizing it and the multinational joint task force military base. The death toll was estimated to be closer to 150 during the massacre. On 25 January, the militants advanced to Monguno, capturing the town and a nearby military base. Also, Boko Haram militants attacked multiple mosques between 1 and 2 July 2015 where Forty-eight men and boys were killed on the 1st at one mosque in Kukawa. Seventeen were wounded in the attack. Ninety-seven others, mostly men, were killed in numerous mosques on the 2nd with a number of women and young girls killed in their homes. An unknown number were wounded. Furthermore, Boko Haram kidnapped 110 schoolgirls from the Government Technical Girls College in Dapchi, Yobe, on 19 February 2018. Boko Haram reportedly released all but one of the girls by 21 March same year. Several number of churches, villages, markets and public places have been equally targeted by the sects. While many will argue that insurgency is a global challenge, the presence of Boko haram and the kind of respect been given to them by the Nigeria government makes it look more like a self-inflicted problem and the lack of direction by the government has dealt us a huge blow as a commoner. Recently a bill seeking the establishment of an agency for repentant member of Boko haram sect was launched at the national house of assembly to the surprise of many Nigerians. The agency will carry out reintegration process of the Boko Haram terrorists into the Nigerian society. Part of the agency responsibilities according to the proposed legislation, would include education for insurgents. It would also rehabilitate, de-radicalize and integrate the repentant insurgents in the country. The bill titled, ‘National Agency for the Education, Rehabilitation, De-radicalization and Integration of Repentant Insurgents in Nigeria’ raises a question of responsibility, goodwill and openness on the part of government. People wants to know the what, why and how suddenly enemies could be turned to a friend and be pardoned for no reason. Judging by the credibility of the bill sponsorer Senator Gaidam who is representing Yobe east district in the senate and also the immediate past governor of Yobe state, it is clear there are lots of grey area on the issue of Boko haram if only the northern leaders and the present federal administration will come out openly to tell Nigerian the truth about Boko haram insurgents. A security expert and columnist, Ben Okezie described the bill as very unfortunate, stressing that such agency will not work during the peak of crisis. He also condemned the idea of trying to de-radicalize already highly radicalized Boko Haram members. He pointed out that, “To de-radicalize them, you start from before they join the insurgency and not when they have entered. By the time they join the insurgency; their mind is twisted and made up. The ideology they have imparted into them is like opium just like Karl Max said that the opium of the people is religion. That is why they can shoot and kill anybody. In his visit to Borno recently president Muhammad Buhari noted while addressing the borno state governor and the Sheu of Borno that “This Boko Haram or whoever they are, cannot come up to Maiduguri or its environs to attack without the local leadership knowing; because traditionally the local leadership is in charge of the security in their own respective areas. In my understanding of our culture, I wonder how Boko Haram survives up to this time. The biggest challenge is the unknown parameter set up to identify the reality of the self-acclaimed repentant insurgent members. How did our dear Senators hope to instill confidence in Nigerians to live with criminals whose real identity or motives we do not know? Can we consider it enough for a criminal to become a born-again just by utterances or mere tongue proclamation without good intent? Since president Buhari came to power in 2015, large number of detained Boko haram members have been released on swap deals, and recently for rehabilitation purpose. In 2016, about 294 were freed and each of the released members were paid 3000 Naira as token. Further 1400 repentant members were release February this year and they are soon to be joined by another 606 members as reported by Nigeria tribune. In a nation where government depends on loan to run its affairs, despite the fact that the larger share of annual security votes is kept for battling insurgency ‘on paper’. Quite number of people are of the view that the propose agency for repentant Boko haram is another attempts to defraud our national reserves and fill the pocket of politicians in the affected states. Katherine Dixon, Director of Transparency International Defense & Security said: “The security vote is one of the most durable forms of corruption operating in Nigeria today. Yet instead of addressing its many urgent threats, the ever-increasing use of security votes is providing corrupt officials with an easy-to-use and entirely hidden slush fund.” “Corruption in the crucial sector of defence and security plays right into the hands of those who seek to sow the seeds of instability and terror. It leaves armed forces under-resourced in the fight against Boko Haram and feeds groups who may destabilize the elections.” The media, public analysts and in fact general masses have come up with series of conspiracy theory about the identity of this blood-thirsty group and the forces behind their establishment. Some believes that the group was being sponsored by eminent northern politicians to make the country “ungovernable” for former President Good luck Jonathan because he is a Christian and from a minority ethnic group in the south. If this theory were true, Buhari’s victory over Jonathan would have mellowed the group. But it hasn’t up to his second term in office. There are others who thought Boko Haram was being sponsored or ignored by former President Jonathan—either to depopulate the north ahead of the 2015 general elections or to make Islam look bad in order to enable the former president to use religion as a tool of mobilization for his candidacy. Boko Haram’s continued mayhem long after Jonathan’s loss of power negates any suggestion that he was sponsoring the group—or the similar claim that he deliberately did not do enough to stop them because it was a “northern problem.” At a certain time, the army accused some influential leaders of the northern state of deliberately undermining their efforts to defeat Boko Haram because they were profiting from the situation. Personally, I agree that northern leaders have not done enough to justify the claim that they are not making money or get appraisal anytime Boko haram attacks. According to an investigation, a researcher writes on similar issue related to defining the rudiments of boko haram insurgency. He writes in his abstract that: “There have been widespread assumptions across the globe that the root cause of Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria is religious rather than socio-economic. An investigation into this dichotomy allowed this study to fully demonstrate that the root cause of Boko Haram’s terrorist actions emanates from the non-fulfillment of socio-economic goals that are prompted by the violation of fundamental human rights, corruption, and poverty, unconstitutional and undemocratic practices in the northern part of the Nigerian state. The Empirical evidence from the study demonstrated that the evolution of Boko Haram terrorism was a response to socio-economic phlebotomy, political and moral putrescence and the dehumanization of people that stem from a combination of decades of mismanagement and pervasive corruption by various Nigerian leaders. The study concludes that, as long as the endemic socio-economic problems caused by global capitalism vis-a-vis unequal hegemonic power exchange as expressed in socio-political, ethno-religious and cultural forms persist in the Nigerian society, the terrorism insurgency will recur and remain an inevitable enterprise and indeed a normal social reaction to every undesirable state of affairs. Based on the findings, the study urges the need for the amelioration of the conditions of the vast majority of the Nigerian populace by making socio-economic facilities available to them through the political state” With the brutal experience and vagueness of hope in surmounting further Boko Haram attacks, should Nigerian in the hope of peace and harmony salute our dear senators for rewarding criminals or accept the bill as a dearth of intelligent on public issues from the bill sponsored?

BILYAMIN BELLO’S DEATH; A SOCIAL MEDIA HAZARD, HOT TEMPER OR JEALOUSY by; Lateef Isiaq Adewale The story of a certain Maryam Sanda who took the law into her own hand, pricked her husband to death in Abuja has gone viral and continues to generate divided opinions, arguments, and debates on social media platforms, workplaces as well as households. On November 24, 2017, the police arraigned Maryam alongside her mother (Maimuna Aliyu), brother (Aliyu Sanda) and their house help (Sadiya Aminu) on two counts of culpable homicide and an ancillary offense. Punch newspaper gathered that Maryam was a nursing mother and also three-month pregnant when she was detained and was delivered of her second baby girl during her two years and two months’ trial. In her own defense, Maryam claimed that her husband fell on the shards of a broken ‘sisha’ bottle during a fight between them after she challenged her late husband on the picture of a nude girl she saw on her husband’s phone. Contrastingly, Ibrahim Mohammed, the first prosecution witness and the friend of the deceased and Usman Aliyu, the fourth prosecution witness, who were both in the house before and after police visited there, the ‘sisha bottle’ was only broken after the death of her husband. Ibrahim had earlier witnessed the scuffle between the couple and had to retrieve a knife from Maryam three or four times, thus preventing her from carrying out her threat to cut off her husband’s private parts. Delivering the judgment recently, the high court of the federal capital territory, Abuja, presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu convicted and sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello. Justice Halilu said “every available evidence” had proved that Maryam “fatally” stabbed her husband to death in Abuja on November 19, 2017. in the ruling, Halilu said, “the concept of justice is tripled in nature, justice to the deceased, Bilyaminu, whose life was cut short in a brutal manner and whose innocent blood cries to high heavens for vengeance, justice to the perpetrators of the crime, who cannot be denied the benefit of the procedure ordained by god in the garden of Eden that is fair hearing or fair trial, justice to society whose membership has been depleted by one. “I am left in no doubt that the defendant has not just failed but woefully failed to explain the death of the deceased bearing in mind her discredited colorfully dressed evidence “I am more than convinced that the defendant fatally stabbed the deceased with the same knife she threatened him with which she has also mentioned in her statement to the police with the full knowledge was not just probable or certain. “When I come to terms with the fact that the person involved here is the accused person’s lawfully married husband and who has a baby with him at the time of his gruesome murder. “This is not just sad and unfortunate but indeed wicked. While I am in sympathy with the position of the accused person, a young mother, two children, whose father by her inhuman action sent him to an early grave, my sentiment will not go far to free the accused person from the long arm of the law. After all, it is indeed in law that sentiment has no place in the judicial process, particularly when the sentiment is against the law. “Clearly, with every available evidence before me, I have come to the irresistible conclusion that you, Maryam Sanda, are guilty of the murder of Bilyaminu, your husband, who you indeed killed in cold blood. You are hereby convicted for the murder of Bilyaminu as charged. Justice Halilu said the offense for which the convict was convicted being one based on section 221 of the penal code, there would be no room for “allocutus”. “It has been said that thou, shall not kill. Whoever kills in cold blood shall die in cold blood. “Maryam Sanda should reap what she has sown. It is blood for blood. “She is hereby sentenced to death by hanging until she dies,” the judge said. With all the evidence leveled against her and other considerable reasons, the law is justified, but how can other families learn and take her plight as a lesson? Many relationships have suffered, and thousands of young couples are experiencing related factors that led Maryam to be over-powered by evil on the complaints of cheating, lack of attention, impatience, misunderstanding, ill-treatment and lack of respect for the other partner. Equally, we have heard cases of an acid attack, stabbing, hot water exchange and physical fight in some instances between wives and their husbands. Also, between concubines and the legally married wife or husband of their suitors. What about besties’ fight, harassment, violence that has ensued vs. the real fiancé or fiancée of a cheating partner out of jealousy or fear of been dominated by the other person. Could madness then be the only antidote for madness? While the death sentence is proportional to Maryam's offense for instance, the verdict should have however reflected the affected family position and welfare of the innocent children. Despite acknowledging such need, the verdict overlooked possible consequence and further damage it may cause the two families involved which perhaps may lead to vengeance, violence and psychological trauma it may bring them. This is never to query the court order or trying to redeem her vicious temper, but again, such a sentence has come to expose the weakness of our civil law. In a case where two related individuals are involved, (husband and wife) provided they have children for instance, the law should consider the future of the children before taking any decision. If the sentence is later deliver , then ordinarily the children will grow up to live with grievances, emotional trauma and psychological disorder and they may end up finding answers to their plight from their parent’s families with blood, and blood when they are fully grown. Will the court be there to vindicate the family failed effort to convince the court from causing them double-loss or who among the families will gladly hand over their mother judgment papers to them as a memoir. If all the Maryam excuses were lies, there is one that has the probability of being 99% true, whose wife or husband will be happy seeing nude-pictures of another lady or guy on his/her partner phones, system or on chat? Now that our society has lost the battle against immorality as social media continue to chop off our conscience. It is high time the government either ban social media or regulate it as a lasting solution to the abuse of this powerful medium. If nude culture should be allowed to succeed without government intervention, then the society at large should be ready to witness more cases of break up, suicide, murder and encounter the unfortunate faith of Maryam Sanda and her late husband. Furthermore, The trends of opposite sex Bestie relationship has ruined many smooth affairs, on what reasons should a married woman be keeping a close relationship with another guy when her husband is hail and healthy. Many homes have turned a violent zone because of stubbornness and greediness of either of the partners to hold on to her male/female besties, Ex and flirt partners without any respect or feelings for their lover's emotion. The fact that many of us are trying to live a way of Europeans in Africa cannot change our cultural orientation in the real term. Many people are dying in silence over emotional pretense as if nothing is wrong trusting their partners with the opposite gender at workplaces, public places or during occasions. There are people that could tolerate their wives hugging and even kissing their male friends or even his own friends but many can only act in order to allow peace at the moment and some that hot-tempered will react immediately which may end up in violence and brutality. Realistically, Jealousy is part of a relationship, regardless of individuals involved and probably there is no other way love will be functional without any traces of jealousy between partners but it has to be minimal. For couples, nothing runs emotion faster than knowing one's partner is cheating directly or indirectly. Though the nature of jealousy varies from one relationship to another, notwithstanding there should be room for communication over whatever transpires between partners in any affair. It may really had been best for Maryam or her late husband to walk away from one another because of their differences and some other reasons best known to them as many people suggested but the fact that they kept to each other was an indication that love was never an issue between them and according to the report, she just got her second pregnant for late Bilyaminu Bello. The trends of the opposite sex Bestie relationship has ruined many smooth affairs. On what reasons should a married woman be keeping a close relationship with another guy when her husband is hail and healthy. Many homes have turned a violent zone because of the stubbornness and greediness of either of the partners to hold on to her male/female besties, ex and flirt partners without any respect or feelings for their lover’s emotion. No matter how smooth a relationship may be in this age, there are lots of temptations that could shatter the affair within a few seconds. Before wives could successfully stop their husbands from marrying a second wife either by trick or some means but with the nature of young ladies of this age, there is no such magic that could stop a flirty husband from running side chicks. These are single ladies that just want to align with rich men, not minding being just a baby mama or sex partner as far as they are getting paid. Is there any other market for side chicks, hookers, wanna-be(s), intimacy gadgets, party freaks, never chop ladies than social media to get customers? Guys are always cheap when they seek sexual pleasure and ladies are almost always available too, some have even resorted to marketing themselves on social media by constantly uploading their semi-nude pictures, and many will even drop their Whatsapp numbers deliberately on Facebook knowing fully well that men will turn up for hook up. Who knows if Buliyamin Bello wouldn’t have become a dead soul by now if there was never any lady on social media sharing her nude pictures, either nothing could have instigated Maryam Sanda to think of killing her husband and one could imagine if there was no that lady who still enjoys peace of mind wherever she is after causing agony for Bilyamin and Maryam by engaging herself with another woman husband with her nudity. In conclusion, society needs to see the case of Maryam Sanda and her late husband beyond trust issues, jealousy or temper. If only we could stop the nude culture, if only we can maintain non-compromising discipline and control our urges for everything underskirt, if only, our ladies could have a pride we can help relationship to last long and save many lives from untimely death, violence, raping, abortions, sexual enslavement and pains of heartbreak.

MESSAGE TO OUR MESSIAHS’; THE PATH TO REGIONAL EQUALITY From Lateef Isiaq Adewale For the first time since June 1993 M.K.O Abiola election annulment, we have lived in pieces like a broken gourd. 27 years after, there is now a concession on Amotekun” that could end up in similar faith if we don’t mend our self-betraying ways and pitch our tents together in the spirit of common purpose and define agenda. It may be late to go back to history but our present and the future could yet be secured before it is too late. Yoruba needs Yoruba’s, for the sake of peace, harmony, and tranquility in our land. As a concern heir of Oduduwa, I write to plead for equanimity, responsibility, and sense of direction from all the Yoruba leaders on handling plots against “Amotekun security outfit “in this challenging atmosphere. Our voice has gone viral beyond borders, and the world anxiously awaits our resilience and devotion to our agitation on breaking-free from false political culture that has waylaid our progress and growth as a unique tribe since the adoption of a federal system. Our history is laden with emotions, and seductive compromises which if allowed to continue will completely deprive us of our freedom to function as a majority in the national frame. Although, they have longed killed us in spirit, yet our soul still begs for resurrection and timely repatriation to our Cultural values and customs acknowledgment before we front a loss-battle. There is no account of Yoruba administrator's downfall without the consent of another expecting favor from other tribes in Authority. Our past is filled with a betrayal of fellow tribesmen and attempts to bring the other person down for personal grudges and witch-hunting. As a proverb said “Kokoro tin JE igba, Idi Igba lowa”, no other phrase could rightly tell the stories of our past political adventures. How do we define a head from the bottom when greediness continues to frustrate our customs, needs, and vision? We have lost our identity and common purpose. The question is, how long should we disengage from our reality? Maybe it’s never too late as prof. Wole Soyinka suggested, Operation Amotekun is just an eye-opener to our common problems and thus leave the onus on Yoruba Leaders; all the executive governors, past and present administration, traditional kings and all other stakeholders at home or in the diaspora. There are certain things to be done to deliver our land from poverty, illiteracy, insecurity, unemployment and political servitude. Unless the following becomes achievable, we cannot boldly stage claim on regional - dependency and sustenance. FIRSTLY, defining Agricultural priority and securing the means to bolster the sector; most of the historical structures, schools, hospitals in Yoruba land were built with cocoa money but here we are today, how many farmland do we have remaining, how many farmers gets enough encouragement and supports from their state government and financial institutions? All because we no longer consider agriculture as a way of life. However, declaring an emergency on the Agricultural sector across all the Yoruba states will not only give us enough food supply, but it will also, to a greater extent aid government finances and thus reduce dependence on federal allocation. Whereas this will only be achievable if real farmers can be given direct access to the state government in order to bypass the political gate which often direct resources on political sharing rather than practical ability. Secondly, stopping the disparity on faith, favoritism, and nepotism; we are unlike all other tribes in the country and accepting this fact will be key to addressing our general problems. Our bias demeanor is not helping, many of hopes have succumbed to failure in the name of religion differences, social differences between a Yoruba man to another, between a Yoruba family to another, between a village to another, and now it is progressing to the people of common faith but different ideology all among the Yoruba’s. An employer from the “right church is not willing to employ job seeker from the “left church”, a boss from Islamic movement A is not open to help his personnel from movement B. where could all these disparities lead us? Thirdly, promoting cultural values and enforcing our language in schools and on children; nothing could be more painful than to see our culture and language go into extinction without any reason. Some parents are lost themselves and allow their own insensitivity to affect their children. I watched Anthony Joshua prostrating for Mr. President on one occasion and I began to imagine the madness of some local parents. Would speaking Yoruba makes children blunt in the head or stop them from speaking good English. Obviously, parents, teachers also have their own role to play if they really have value for their cultural heritage. Also, there should be a combining effort, especially among Yoruba Leaders to find a means to integrate the Yoruba language as a core subject, especially at the primary and secondary levels. Equally, addressing Youth unemployment across Yoruba states; the number of unemployed graduates in southwestern states is the highest throughout the federation, and this is taking its toll on high rates of mental cases among youths. Thousands are battling depression, many no longer believe in themselves after a series of rejection and disappointment. No matter how irrelevant an individual maybe there will certainly a positive in him/her. The Yoruba leaders as a matter of urgency need to come to the rescue of teeming challenged youths and give them new hope to live a meaningful. However, to achieve all I have mentioned above, Yoruba leaders must accept huge responsibility and be courageous enough to steer the course of emancipation. More so, in a challenging period like this, there should no room for back-biting, back-sliding and hypocrisies. The future of Yoruba people should not be tied to political will, sectional interest, or religious differences now or anytime in the future. if at all there is any clue of illegality on whatever events that are not meant to endanger the lives and properties of people directly or indirectly, neither sabotaging the political will of another region, then such effort or activity should be adopted in good faith. As a matter of fact, the Amotekun issue has come to remind us that our constitution is no longer fit for our togetherness as a nation, and its contents are way too obsolete to address our needs and guide our path to the better Nigeria we all craving for. Our law should clarify and classify our differences and the bodies should be structured according to the customs, culture and social understanding of his tribe. If the constitution could recognize shariah law that’s so relevant to the northerners, why on earth the same constitution will forbid other tribes from putting forward an agenda that’s so befitting their history, and momentum. It is worthy to note that Yoruba are not enemies of other tribes, as we are the most peace-loving people with a substantive sense of tolerance and selflessness. Therefore, our intention to establish regional security should not be misconstrued as a bid to pursue an Oduduwa Republic agenda. All thanks to all the patriotic Yoruba leaders from home and abroad for taking it upon your shoulders to front this bidding for regional security, peace, and harmony. May Almighty Eledumare crown your efforts and attempts to deliver us from intimidation and high-handedness aimed to enslave our values and condemn us to eternal “tail-tag”.

Nigeria, on the bleak of our expiring Union In the wake of unleashing the Yoruba joint Security outfit “Operation Amotekun", there was need to revisit hanging discussions on state policing to factorize the objections of the Central Government against the Yoruba Leaders joint effort. In a paradoxical countenance of what looks like a borrowed expressions from the Federal, there was a lucid intention inspired by sentimentalism and tribalism which further put the neutrality of Mr. President in question. Then, it was chosen a priority between us and herdsmen. And now, our Common will versus 'their' egocentric torrents. There is a big flaw in our laws and administrative structure, until we stop dancing on the fence and Vomit their charmed decoction of fear and intimidation drank by our Nationalist Fathers, the more we continue to lose our grip and regional identity. Realistically, addressing security issues was becoming irrefragable in western region following the rampage attacks of herdsmen in Villages, express roads and even in some towns in Yoruba land. I read so much on the need for state policing, at some point it became everyday topic on Radio, television and newspapers but it was only meant to be tongues without effect. Many were anxiously waiting for Presidency Imprimatur on the ingenuity of Yoruba leaders to set up “Amotekun" and show some appreciation to the course. But, few like me expected toxic affairs as usual. Although, considering the financial obligations, such effort must be put through necessary scrutiny to predict sustainability and ascertain the motives to ensure the group will not end up working opposite their peace mission. But how long, in the excuse of national interest should the will of a region be sacrifice for artificial love. The idea of restructuring is not a bargain, it is long overdue and the earlier we accept this simple fact the better we avoid ethnic war, if an Igbo man cannot be given mandate to become president, if Nnamdi Kanu was wrong setting up IPOB, Omoyele Sowore for attempting a national protest, what can we say about Yoruba Governors who ditch their political rivalry with the support of our royal fathers to start a regional security operations. The message is crystal clear, our dear country is begging for restructuring. What happened to Jonathans’ confab reports, why in the name of national interest has Buhari led administration forsake it? Why the North always deprecate other regions interests? Can we rightly talk about Nigeria in the same context on power sharing? Do we need to tell them that Amotekun is not a criminal group, or setup on certain political interest? This is our common voice, our common interest and stopping this peaceful movement will be consider democratic failure. Not only that, someone in the presidency needs to start thinking about what sabotaging this joint Yoruba’s effort could amount before 2023. Meanwhile Abubakar Malami, attorney-general for the federation, had described the outfit as illegal, saying security remains the exclusive preserve of the federal government and it has led Yoruba leaders calling his bluff. Professor Wole Soyinka in his own words said “Our responsibility as a citizen is to take actions against events, phenomenon which militate against our existence, security, productivity and dignity as human beings,” he said. “This has been a result of collective consciousness by people of this region. These governors met and they came up with this solution, Amotekun. Now, some people who have been sleeping all this time, taking belated actions in many directions, who watched the citizens of this nation decimated, villages wiped out, and farmers chased off their land. They are now coming out to tell us that this initiative is illegal, unconstitutional. I think they should go back to sleep. “I prefer to believe that the government itself has not spoken. I refuse to believe that any serious government will raise any objection to this kind of initiative. Amotekun has come to stay. This could be the first time in history Yoruba leaders will stand together and reach a resolve on issues that directly affects our sense of direction and common challenges. We cannot longer be subservient to the northern agenda no matter the case. Going by the statements of some northern leaders, we could not but believe that indeed Nigeria has failed as a united country. The Herdsmen under the umbrella of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore wants the Southwest governors to withdraw their support for Western Nigeria Security outfit, codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’, adding that their continued support for Operation Amotekun may hurt the Southwest’s chances of getting the Presidency in 2023. The National Secretary of the group, Alhassan Saleh, voiced his dissatisfaction during an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday. He said Miyetti Allah was disappointed in the South-West intelligentsia for supporting the outfit. In his view, Amotekun is a bait to getting northern support in 2023, his conclusion “It is best they give up on this idea because it may affect the chances of the South-West to produce the President in 2023. The thinking is that if the South-West, a major stakeholder in this government, can be toying with this idea now, they may do worse when they get to power.” There have always been chanting and ranting’s by some ethnocentric northern leaders whenever there’s an issue between federal government and any other ethnicity, somebody like Nnamdi kanu is northerners enemy for trying to rescue his tribe men from political subordination and very recently Sowore. Do the northerners even have respect for our togetherness when they cannot just stop bidding selfish agendas?

Sowores Arrest , A Shame on Nigeria Democracy The recent arrest of omoyele sowore , A presidential candidate of African Action congress during the last general election by the department of state security over the allegation of untrue self-Ablaze excuse is a threat to democracy and a timely reminder of presidency high handedness , victimization and obvious reprimanding of progressive thinking Young innovators in the country. The arrest is believed to be connected to the #RevolutionNow protests which is set to commence nationwide on August 5, but Lauretta Onochie, social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, said that the Department of State Security (DSS) saved Omoyele Sowore from setting himself ablaze with the arrest. Maybe the idea of #revolution is too expensive depending on the platform but initiating peaceful protest in a period where presidency has grown too sentimental and unconcerned for Democratic principles, using the authority to settle political/ideological scores over national interest should be considered a humanitarian process. It is just like an invitation to public disturbance, When citizens are force to react to obvious lies and unrealistic administrative fables. In a statement signed by Force public relations officer Frank Mba, IGP Adamu says: "The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a video circulating on the social media by the ‘Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria and others’, inciting Nigerians, home and abroad, to join a planned ‘revolution’ march against the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Monday, 5th August, 2019 with the sole aim of forcing a regime change in the country. “The Force wishes to state unequivocally that the call amounts to treasonable felony and acts of terrorism and will, therefore, not stand idly-by and watch any individual or group in the society cause anarchy in the land. While acknowledging the rights of Nigerians to embark on protest, the Force wishes to note that such rights should not translate to a violent and forceful change of government which clearly is the meaning of ‘revolution’. Needless to state that Nigeria is a democratic republic and has well-defined processes for change of government, exercised periodically during various cycle of elections. “The Force therefore warns the organizers, sponsors, allies, supporters, associates and sympathizers of the group ‘Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’ to, in their own interest, steer clear of any such planned protest, demonstration, acts of incitement and proposed “revolution”, as the full wrath of the law will be brought to bear on any individual or group engaged or found participating in the above planned criminal act. What happens to freedom of expression?, when government is intolerant to basic Democratic process. The citizens have the right to embark on peaceful protest when their safety and security is threatened. We have seen political office holders voluntary resignation in other parts of the world when they feel they have failed their people. It was boko haram before, now join by Fulani herdsmen and convicted Elzakzaky movement which I pray should not end up like Boko Haram after they have been proclaimed as terrorist group. Why would any reasonable person of sowore calibre thought of setting himself ablaze. it's clear he's disturbed by the state of affairs just like every other citizens, but for the presidency to come out with open lie thats more ridiculous than stories of monkey and snake swallowing money. Its not surprising the administration continue to fail it's campaign promises, a truly Democratic government should definitely collaborate with young innovators like sowore, moghalu and the likes, if not for any other reasons, but for doing Nigerians proud for their courage and performance all through the presidential election debates. Its just funny the government is doing the opposite. If peaceful protest is an act of treason and felony, why is Babangida untouchable? |
OBJ: enemy of peace and the ebora of a failed Republic By; Lateef Isiaq Adewale It is clear indication that Nigeria get enemies and number one on the list is Baba Obasanjo, it's hard to determine to what interest Obasanjo is fighting for or to what course his continuous attempt to bring Buhari government down. He did the same to Jonathan, issuing unstatemanlike statements capable of encouraging Military take-over during Jonathan era. Baba has identified himself as a complete anathema to Better Nigeria by supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during the last General election, this is not to question Atiku competency or integrity but on the ground of contents contained in Obasanjo published book "my watch" on pages dedicated to tell Nigerians the kind of president Atiku would be if voted to the office of presidency at any point in his entire life. I began to wonder the relevance of some of the past leaders on the demand to rationanalize the reasons Nigeria continue to fail as a united nation from independence and lapses in our transition to humanitarian Democracy despite the bad experience of military hijack of what was promising to be the test of our common ties as one Nation if the Democracy was allowed to escape its early struggles. The whole system is crying for total overhaul and fresh brains. If Nigerian youths could forgive Past Military leaders for ruining our generations before many of us were born, it should be enough for them to stay away from any Democratic process. These are the people that rose to the position of authority at their youthful age with their military status quo and they are still the same set of individuals frustrating the development of the country at their old age. None of their contributions has ever yield any positive results Obasanjo was a military head of state and two times Executive President, he failed woefully and his administration would only be remembered for his Battle of power between himself and his vice Atiku. I seems to be baffled why the likes of Babangida is still allowed to enjoy cool breeze without any reported trial for 1993 election annulment and aside from that the way they looted the economy. Up till today Abacha looted funds is still not recovered fully over 20years of his demise and the likes of Babangida has not refunded a dime from his looted funds not to talk of Obasanjo. The simple fact is that they have sold the future of the country to themselves and there is no blood of satisfaction left in them again. The only thing left with obasanjo is now derisory polemics and war ambition at the age when he's supposed to be seeking for forgiveness from The Yorubas and Nigerians at large. His absence in the new Democracy June 12 anniversary dedicated for his late state-man Mko Abiola is enough to figure out the fading pedigree of the former president in humanitarian Democracy. If Baba could forget he was handpicked in 1999 to ran for presidency as a bid compensate the Yorubas for the mko Abiola murder and to make up for the annulment of Abiola 1993 election Victory. Its hard to believe why any Nigerians will take Obasanjo and his words so serious, what do we expect from the "owu Farmer" who's afraid Ruga settlement project across the federation will affect his farm business because of the possible economic impact of such project. Nothing is really wrong about the Ruga settlement project, one of the most bubbling place in Ibadan is Sabo because of the Hausa turned Yoruba people that occupy the area and is like that in some of the states of the federations without any security threat. To condemn Ruga is not the issue but hiding under ethnic and religious shadow to incite civil war is an offence that should be punishable. Nigeria is no Central Africa republic, we have entirely different culture and history, because war broke out in Central Africa Republic in 2013 is not enough to propose war for Nigerian, what's the population of Central Africa Republic republic, how many tribe is in there?, what's their conomic strength?, what's there social standard?, what's there international exposure? My fear for Nigeria youth is that we continue to embrace the culture of fear with our burning desire to safe our dear country from the hands of the cabals. So, Obasanjo is encouraging Nigeria youths to troop out to the street and pick up weapons to start civil war over a certain economic and security visionary project. Maybe Baba sons and daughters will lead the war. if you have no means of correcting past errors, why not keep silent and locked up from issuing statements that could inspire violence. I have always said the blood thirsty Fulani rustlers are hired by particular cabal of politicians just like Boko Haram sects to disturb governance and pursue a course for Civil war. Ethnic and religious violence are political war tools designed to divert attention of common Nigerians from any thoughts of Revolution. And its proved to be working, even though No mosque in Lagos state, Oyo state, Ogun state, or Churches in any parts of the country has wage war against each other to settle religious scores. If there's any means of evaluating Nigeria unity, let these political bigotry go to NYSC Camps where almost every tribes is represented throughout the federation and no case of ethnic pt religious war has ever been reported, No Christian army has ever been reported to kill Muslim ones or a Muslim police officer reported to kill a Christian colleague over religious or ethnic differences. And they continue to use their rented terrorist groups to divide peace loving common Nigerians. The talk about weaknesses of Hausa/Fulani member of the armed forces in war fronts should not be taken lightly, Baba should be summon to defend such provocative statements. He should be disregarded as retired military man for that kind of statement. If am an hausa/Fulani person irrespective of my political belief, I will begin to see Obasanjo as enemy because he speaks as if he's Always been planning war against Hausa and Fulani prior to this time, Why would the weakness of Hausa/Fulani soldiers be his concern?, to what interest is such treasonable statement?, is it to inspire hatred or ethnic war among the Nigerian army?. Baba is not only the enemy of Entire Nigeria, He is enemy of his own family, town , states ,tribe and faith. How many members of his own family did he help while In office not to talk of state or the entire Yoruba land outside politics, maybe if he had love the Yorubas as much as Buhari is trying to comfort his tribemen maybe Lagos-ibadan express road. Abeokuta-lagos road would have been the best in Nigeria, He did absolute nothing for Yoruba's except to jealous the dynamism of thriving Yoruba political saviours. I wonder what position Yoruba's would be in Federal Setting If we don't have Tinubu. Its high time to consider Obasanjo as a fiend and not a friend of progressive Nigeria. |
Women's Voice : Rape victims and Appeal to emotions By; Lateef Isiaq Adewale Reported cases of raping are becoming more frequent with much advocacy for both structural prevention and protection for Victims . The latest allegation against A Coza pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo by Busola Dakolo highlight the level of complexities in believability and preliminary factors that could validate rape accusations, The pastor, if find guilty would be a huge betrayal of his own status and image as Man of God, but, in a situation where women begins to use their weaknesses to gain Popularity and social status in order to punish men for past engagement, the society needs to be more demanding to determine which accusation is genuine or false. Some men are animals undoubtedly ,however, a mere words of mouth can't establish if rape has occurred or otherwise, unless there is a practical evidence or immediate report of such act to security agencies when the damage can be ascertain by test or injury. Although, This could be hard depending on the psychological effect and emotional trauma of the victims for coming out to give the account of the incident. There are instances where Rape attempts needs no proof to be established when there is no connection or prior relationship between the victim and the culprit, such as armed robbery attack, cult group violence, Thugs harassment or set up, but in a situation where religious leaders is associated or accuse of rape attempts on teenage girls or any female members of their congregation, our sense of judgement should be concrete and open to reality before any open conclusion can be reached. NO RAPE Is GOOD or justified if genuine and not acted upon to ruin a guy for past encounter, because he broke up with you many years ago is not enough to frame him up for rape attack or take revenge when you attain certain social status or position. It maybe difficult to think like woman, but there is no hidden truth that the society only appreciate women side of the story either true or not in order to give voice to genuine victims and step up campaign against RAPE ATTACK. In the case of the pastor, the believability is influenced by the status of Busola Dakolo with no careful attempt to look at other factors that could reinforced her experience by outsiders, How old was she when it happened?, Where it happened?, how it happened?, the .kind of parent?, sexual exposure and the customs of the church. If a pastor can successfully rape teenage members of the church for years as been claimed ,then we should add the parents to punishment book. Because he's your pastor/imam doesn't make him a God or infallible. Some parents allow too much freedom and confidentiality between their girls and religious leaders with no concern for sexual temptations that could set in from the pastor/imam covetousness or the girl's sexual urges inspire by early exposure to sex films or friends romantic experience. Some girls enjoys reading Romantic Novels with unlimited freedom to engage with Male friends in the house, schools or churches at the very tender age, some teenage girls becomes desperate to have first kiss or get a romantic partner. The mode of dressings to some church is enough to tempt man of God, All we have now is celebrity and entertainment churches dominating cultured ones, where female members dressed half naked as if for models photoshoot to place of worship where there is no restrictions to engagement between opposite sex, where male and females are free to dance together, sit together, hold one another as if in a dancehall. Its quite unfortunate but understandable the reasons why Rape cases are on the high, from parents insensitivity, waywardness, Indecent dressings, lost of morality, wannabe syndrome, Fun addiction and increase drug/alcohol intake among ladies. It is quite easy to indict men and punished for rape but there are more to be done in order to curb reoccurrence of rape attack and other sexual harassment on Female sex. The law should established death sentence for any violence rape culprits like armed robbers ,cult members, religious leaders if evidence of the violence can be proved in the court of law or where the damage can be ascertained in a case where the victim is Innocent and of good moral conduct within her safe environment, like schools, religious places or in the case of kidnapping or gang raping. We are in the age where almost all ladies want to enter clubs naked, go swimming naked with mistaken identity and sense of non existing safety with guys. No matter how Much the noise of gender equality, it will be a self destruction for any female gender to hope on same sexual orientation with males. To say it is cure, to keep it is disease, if you're so sure it is rape and nothing but rape with no stimulation or acknowledge temptations with guys you have affection for, or in case of violence attack or a consequence of harassment by school teachers/lecturers, religious leaders, course mates, colleagues at works or any boy/man at any point in time without your consent There is no point hiding it, tell your own stories to safe others when it is fresh and be can be examined. Say No To Rape!!! Say No To Blackmail!!! |
Osun Election: a wake-up call for 2019! Osun state 2018 Gubernatorial election had come and gone as the results was concluded by the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], after the much awaited supplementary election favoured Gboyega Oyetola of the All progressive Congress. The returning officer, Prof . Joseph Fuwape , declared that the APC candidate , Oyetola, won the governorship election by scoring a total number of 255 , 505 votes while Adeleke of the PDP polled 255 , 023 votes. For few Nigerians wishing for good governance and true representative democracy , the whole process of Osun election is a clear reminder and rehearsal of what to expect in 2019 general elections. Adeleke had won the main election on Saturday with 353 votes after polling 254 , 698 against Oyetola’ s 254 , 345 . On Thursday , both candidates relied on 2 , 637 votes in the seven units where the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared rerun to win the final contest . The rerun was held in one polling unit in Oyere in Ife - North , one polling unit in Olode in Ife - South, another polling unit in Osi , Ife - South, three polling units in Orolu , Kajola Local Government Area of the state and one polling unit in Osogbo . In Oyere , APC had 126 votes while PDP had two votes . In Olode , APC scored 283 votes with the PDP scoring 15 votes . In Osi , APC had 172 votes while the PDP had 21 votes . In Ifon, Orolu , APC had 111 votes against PDP’ s three votes . In Gbogbo, Orolu , APC had 41 while PDP scored 64 votes . Also in Idiya , Orolu , the APC scored 128 votes against the PDP ’ s 55 votes . In Osogbo , the APC scored 299 votes while the PDP scored 165 votes . In all, APC scored 1 , 160 to beat the PDP which scored 325 in the rerun. When added to the result of the main election on Saturday, APC had a total of 255 , 505 votes against PDP’ s 255 , 023 .[punch] The figures could have been far more credible but to the suprise of many, the supplementary election changed the tune and wishes of the good people of Osun states. This is not to say the winner was pre determined or the loser was quite acknowledged , but the victimisation of the electorates, journalists by security apparatus was a clear indication that the supplementary election was purposefully intended to favour APC after the initial election was declared inconclusive by The Independent National Electoral Commission. The supplementary election held in seven polling units was clearly a two-man horse race , where the winner is not necessarily determine by individual capacity or by party legitimacy but by the thickness and depth of the horsewhip. For the main election, pocket politics was at its best; even at that, the choice of the people was becoming glaring with the winning margin edged by Adeleke; despite the fact that he was bit too isolated by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party. He still managed to overcome the power of incumbent and the ruling party in the country. This was not to be a magic, the death of his brother Senator Isiaka Adeleke who died on 23 April, 2017 at Biket Hospital in Osogbo, the Osun state capital is still fresh in the heart of Osun people, and the nature of his death predominantly inflated Nurudeen Adeleke popularity, equally the influence of the Golden boy Of Adeleke Family “Davido". At this juncture, i have to distance myself from any sort of loyalty to any of the party, but taking the clue from Live broadcast of the collation and announcement proceeding on African Independent Television [AIT], I felt the need to express my total disatisfaction on the manner in which the supplementary was held, and the open display of typical Nigeria Politics where worst enemies becomes best of friends on the battlefield. Was Omisore ever going to be forgiven for his involvement in the death of Late Chief Bola Ige?, if at All, not by APC which centred it's campaign on “murderer allegation” against chief Iyiola Omisore who will later become the messiah and a Good citizen when his political influence was needed. I became very perplexed when Dele Adeleke began to give his observations and the manner he was responded to by the returning officers on matters of violence and even death of a pregnant woman at one of the polling units. It was turning to a stage drama when agents of other parties would stand up and directly countered Dele Adeleke observations which infacts are on records. At some points, I began to fault AIT crew for throwing themselves too much into politicking, as a matter of fact, one would expect human factor to ensue prior to their bad experience in doing their work as media men. A certain journalists of AIT was Infact condemning the whole process, and engage in a very heat argument-like interview with a representative of civil society organization. No wonder the foreign observers described the supplementary as a “charade", which evidently negates any claim of free and fair supplementary election by INEC. A lots of things were not just right with the returning officers and the entire INEC officials , Prof Fuwape knew the consequence of not announcing the winner before requesting the party agents to step forward to sign the results and this called for integrity checkup on those who will be chosen to handle such sensitive national assignment but who's the professor when Ogas at the top will not only command by mere words but extends millions of naira in Baba Oni Baba accounts. As 2019 general election is fast approaching, let's desist from pocket politics and popular parties syndrome. Let's make our vote counts for those unpopular candidates this once, maybe that will retire all the political entrepreneurs in our dear country. Who's to blame? the state coordinators , camp directors or the DG NYSC Or the Government for its laissez faire attitudes and insensitivity towards what goes on with Corps members. They Claims to have once been in our shoe, but there is a big distinction between their generation and our generation. We are at the receiving ends for greediness of leaders, and politics of "money orphans". Instead of turning the back of their late fathers , they turn nation's wealth to victims of mass burial in their homes and preserved sites expecting more returns at the expense of disadvantaged majority. October is 31 days in lunar calendar. In corps members Calendar it's now 36days, and expectedly may run to 40days if they refuse to pay Alawee. And come to think of it, if a week delay of Corps members Allowance could be so damaging and devastating , what happens to civil servants they are owing Above 5 months Salaries in some states in the country and pensioners still waiting for their graduate after 2years of retirement. They expect us to lift our nation high when the nation obviously has nothing to offer us than vague pessimism and unappreciable potentials. Its a triple blow for corps members serving in non paying states, non paying PPA with no accommodation. If graduates are not appreciated, what hopes for the future of the country.
