segbas:I have replied. Sorry for the delay. |
By the way, while I was waiting my turn/eavesdropping on other applicant's interviews, I realised the seriousness and importance of 2 major issues other users on this thread have been stressing. 1. The importance of honesty. Two pregnant women were denied visas just because they obviously lied about their intention of going to birth in the US. One said she was accompanying her father for his convocation cos her mum and other siblings are too busy to go with him amongst other disjointed and obviously false stories which gave her away and indicated that she really intends to birth in the US. Another woman for some reason said she was going for a conference and denied being pregnant altogether regardless of her swollen nose, swollen feet, pregnant posture and obvious baby bump. I really didn't understand her game plan. 2. The importance of a zero balance and keeping your every receipt/proof. Another woman was denied because they found out that her baby delivery was paid for by some insurance that she wasn't entitled to. She didn't deny the fact though. She blamed it on her US based friend for misleading her and claimed that her friend maliciously adviced her to use the insurance. She said after she realised this, she cut all ties with her friend (like the VO cares to know that lol) and that she has tried times without number to get in touch with the people (perhaps the hospital or insurance guys) to clear her bill but they neither take her calls nor reply her email. Thus her reason for wanting to travel this time is to go and approach them in person in order to clear her bill. The VO sha denied her, said there's nothing she can do to help her get in touch with the guys and asked her to go sort it out herself one way or the other. Moral of the story - Let us all learn from other people's mistakes so we can do better. |
dere5:Thanks dere5. And thanks for your help. |
9jabiggurl:Thanks babe. I'm so happy and feel so relieved. Couldn't sleep last night o. I even dreamt that I made a mistake on my budget sheet and I woke up to realise that I actually did... lol... The fear of rejection! |
So this is how my interview went... VO: Good afternoon Me: Good afternoon VO: We called you for an interview because we noticed that your circumstances have changed since your last interview. Me: Ok. VO: How many times did you use your last visa? Me: Twice. Once last year and once in 2013 VO: What's the purpose of your trip this time? Me: I'm going on vacation with my mum as well as to have my baby. VO: Oh. So you are pregnant? Me: Yes I am VO: Congratulations Me: Thanks VO: Is this your first pregnancy? Me: Yes VO: Nice. Why Texas? Me: Because I have family there. My Aunty lives in Dallas VO: Do you have any correspondence from a doctor? Me: Yes I do. VO: Can I see it? Me: Sure (Handed over my email correspondence and service cost list from Dr. Fagbohun) Me: Oh and here's my budget and cost estimate based on my discussion with the doctor (Handing over my budget sheet and bank statements.... I almost forgot to do this) VO: Ok. Why did you choose this Dr? (she was talking while carefully scrutinising my bank statements) Me: Because he has the best reviews of all the doctors I have spoken to and based on the feedback I got from his past patients I have confidence in his service VO: Will you be living with your Aunty in Dallas? Me: Yes I will for the time I am in Dallas but will live in a rented apartment when I move over to Houston for my baby's delivery VO: Ok. How long will you be staying? Me: About 2 months and 2 weeks. VO: Ok. And what do you do for work? Me: I work as a **** for ***** VO: How long have you been working there? Me: 3 years VO: And what's your monthly income? Me: **** VO: Will you be funding this trip yourself? Me: Yes I will. However I'm married now so I have the support of my husband if need be VO: When did you get married Me: **** last year VO: What does your husband do Me: He's a ****** with **** VO: Do you know how much your husband earns monthly Me: Yes I do. He earns between **** and **** after tax a month VO: You mean US Dollars? Me: Yes US Dollars VO: Oh. Where does he work again? Me: He works for ***** VO: Oh! Ok. Make sure you take all these documents with you to the POE. The POE officers are very particular about them and you may be asked to show proof to back up your claims. Me: Yes I will. VO: Your visa has been approved. Have a great day. Me: Thank you very much. You too. The interview took less than 10 mins. Thank God gor grace and thanks to everyone who encouraged and gave me confidence by sharing their experiences and contributing to this thread. Especially those who took time out to respond to my questions. You guys are amazing! |
Terese69:Yaaaaayyy!!! Help me Thank God oooo my amazing NL family. My interview went well and my visa has been approved for renewal. Thanks to everyone who advised and encouraged me. I'm so grateful. Interview transcript coming up shortly. Let me get home first and treat myself to a large cup of smoothie.... lol |
dere5:Thanks a lot. I am so grateful for your advice and encouragement. Will be back to give an update after the interview. Fingers crossed for positive feedback ![]() |
FinanceFitness:Thanks a lot. I will definitely be back with good news IJN. |
lalavita:Thanks a lot for your response lalavita. I intend to use Dr. Fagbohun so all I have is the generic email he sent me stating that he is happy to have me as his patient and he does not accept advance payment, neither does the hospital (oakbend). He also attached the cost of services in the email so I intend to take those with me to my interview. I wonder if that will suffice. I have never had a baby in the US before, this is actually my first pregnancy. I haven't booked an accommodation yet, however I intend to use soulcare concierge. I have email correspondences with them and also the quote they sent me. So I will take those too. I have my bank statements and budget sheet already, pay slips for the past 6 months, letter from my boss confirming my maternity leave and an introduction letter from my company. Is there anything else I should take with me? |
dere5:Thanks for your response dere5. No, I haven't had a child in America before. This is my first pregnancy. I had a B1/B2 visa which I used twice. Once in 2013 while I was still single 2013 and then again in 2014 when I travelled with my husband after our wedding. So this will be my first time applying for a renewal. In my DS-160, I indicated that I was now married, I intend to be in the US for 3 months and that I will be travelling with my Mum. I wonder if those where what prompted their decision to call me. |
I applied to renew my B1/B2 visa via drop box last week. I just got an email from the embassy asking me to come for an interview. Should I be scared? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any tips/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. |

Omodaraju:Thanks a lot Omodaraju. Will check him out. |
sayoberry:Congrats and Thank God for the safe delivery of your babies! That's amazing news. When you feel better, can you please share more information on the quality of service you received at Oakbend, your total cost (if you could please give a breakdown) and your accommodation arrangement? I intend using Dr. Fagbohun too and I am looking for all the information I can get. Thanks a lot. |
FinanceFitness:Thanks a lot for the advice. I have decided to go with option 1 and renew by drop box since I currently have a B1/B2 visa. So fingers crossed. |
happytbaby:Thanks a lot for your response. I have the B1/B2 so will just renew by drop box. |
lalavita:Thanks a lot for the feedback. I guess I will work with option 1 and keep my fingers crossed. |
Terese69:PLEASE HELP ME OOOO!!! (See my previous message) Thanks ![]() |
Hi Guys, Please I have a question that's bothering me. I am due in September but I have a visitor's visa that will expire in May. I have the visa twice since I got it. My dilemma now is do I just renew my current visa after expiry via dropbox and then notify them of my intent to give birth in the US in September afterwards. Or am I required to apply for a Medical/Tourism visa instead? What do you guys think? I am scared of being turned back at the POE. Please help! |
humanshado:I saw this on CNN this morning and my heart skipped a beat. I sincerely hope it doesn't affect us hopefuls. |
TeesMom:Thanks for the info TeesMom. I'm a September Mum hoping to birth in either Dallas or Houston. Just started my research so will get back with the details asap. I am awaiting feedback from Dr. Fagbogun and Dr. Esedebe. So far they are the only ones I have gotten in touch with. Thanks to everyone else who has in one way or the other contributed to this forum. You guys have been of immense help to us newbies. |
