I travelled with 17k in 2015. I declared it on my landing card and didn't have any problem.

kellylicious:
I just called delta airlines and they have no restrictions....Thank God. Most of the airlines have this new restriction of 32 weeks despite 36weeks being on their website.

I would like to ask, what is the maximum amount of cash someone can carry to travel? I intend going with about 15K USD. Someone told me it is 10k that is the maximum.

Do i need to get yellow card? Where can i process it if needed?

Hi Temmyo,

I had my daughter at Baylor Scott & White, White Rock in September 2015 (formerly Doctor's Hospital at White Rock Lake) and I'm planning to use them again come October.

My total medical bill was $7,031.08 inclusive of doctor's fee, hospital fee, epidural, hospital paediatrician, two visits to the external paediatrician, lab tests etc etc. You can check my previous posts for the breakdown.

How's your son by the way? Kisses to him. He's my birthday mate kiss

temmyo:
Hello @Terese69 please which of the Baylors are you using? And how much is your bill?
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by Terese69:
Bro abeg I nor get power, let me stick to the devil I know this time around jeje i.e. same doctor, same hospital, same documentation process. The only things I plan to change are my external paediatrician (cos I found a cheaper alternative) and accommodation (you already know that story).

I've been following Temmyo and YoungMetrosG's posts amongst others and I've found that Doctor's Hospital (which is now Baylor Scott & White) is a bit cheaper than the Baylor in Carrollton "over all" especially if you opt for epidural.

My doctor isn't necessarily cheaper than theirs but it all evens out at the end when you factor in the other bills.

olokings:
6 UPSIDE DOWN 9.... you are very much on your own in that one... you no hear say I dey in sabbatical?!...
No 4 gboza in today's economy?.
Abeg dollar wee come down to N168 again by the time I'm crossing the seas again.
Shay u know ppl travelled in 510#-1$.

Don't worry I'm sending u ahead to find one sweet deal there dem I wee come.

PS: check out Baylor & Scott Carrollton. I think there's also one "medical kini-kon-kini" like dt in Carrollton. They got great deals..like way less than doctors' yo know.

Hehe

Hi hi.
Yeah I used the dallas passport office as presumed.
I just appointment scheduled and walked in filled the form (with wifey n baby) head out checked and submitted.
Went back same day (after abt 3 hrs) to pick it up.

It was all a breeze.

* terese69 detailed an extremely quick procedure on how to get ur BC n passport in less than a week from birthing. ..seriously speaking. ....

*in other news. ..so I went to the pain mgt office for negotiations as regards my epidural and I got an easy discounted deal from $1500 down n I paid $1,000.00
Could have even gotten out for $800.00 if I had been a wee bit greedy. .hehe.
Double thanks to terese69 on that again. ..#winks

First missionary journey accomplished. Thanks to all too numerous to mention for your help and support. Especially Mr. and Mrs. Olokings.

My bills are as follows:
Doctors fee - $2,400 (Inclusive of all lab tests done at the doctor's clinic, sonogram and prenatal vitamins)
Hospital fee - $3,000 (Vaginal delivery, 2 days hospital stay. The 2 days start counting after delivery).
Non stress test - $50 (Was such a waste of time and money but the doctor insisted it was important)
Hospital paediatrician - $600.58 (Including hearing test of approx. $135)
External paediatrician - $180 ($90 per appointment, I had 2 follow up appointments. The second one was a total waste of money and time but don’t quote me)
Epidural - $700
Labs - $100.50
Total medical bill = $7,031.08

BC was ready 4 working days after delivery. The whole documentation process took 8 working days from the day I picked up the BC to the day I got the Nigerian visa.

I used an agent in Dallas so I didn’t have to post documents o

BC – $23 per copy + $2 for the plastic envelop for safekeeping (optional)
Passport – $165 expedited. Same day pick up
Nigerian Visa - $295 (Got it after 4 working days)

I used uber as my mode of transportation the whole time. It may seem cheap compared to other cabs but it adds up quickly. I spent approximately $1,300 in 2.5 months. I’m not sure how much it costs to rent a car but if you are adventurous and have a license, I think it works out cheaper to do so not to mention that it is way more convenient. I heard that “lyft” is cheaper than uber but I never tried it out.

Thank God it ended in Praise. Na Lagos I dey see so!

Good day all, pls has any mom used Emirates recently? Wouldn't mind some experience sharing to reconfirm the info on their website. Are they preggy- friendly? Awaiting responses. Thanks.
I flew emirates at 33 weeks from Lagos to Dallas. I only had to present my fit to fly which was written when I was 32weeks+. No further questions were asked and I had no issues with them. The hostesses doted on me while on board, always checking on me bringing me water to stay hydrated and kept asking if I needed anything else. Besides the fact that the journey was really long and tiring, it was a pleasant experience over all. I'm not sure what else you want to know.

Please for those mums who have travelled back to Nigeria with their babies without the baby's Dad, was anyone asked for a consent letter from the baby's dad granting permission for the baby to travel out of America at the airport?

Someone just told me that the imigration officers ask for it at the airport but I have never heard about that procedure before.

So that's how I called the hospital's billings office to find out why I hadn't received my zero balance statement yet. I almost had a heart attack when the operator told me that they can't send me a zero balance statement cos there is an outstanding bill of $38,000+ on my account! I didn't even know when hot tears gathered in my eyes. See me see wahala o! $38k from where now? For uncomplicated vaginal delivery?? Wetin I bornhuh

After their investigation, it turned out that they had mistakenly opened two accounts for me as the person who checked me in when I turned up for my delivery opened a new account instead of using the one opened for me when I went to register which was the account the full payment I made at the discounted rate reflected on.

Dispute resolved now so looking forward to receiving my zero balance statement in a week.

My village people entered night bus to Dallas but their plans failed o. We have collected our blue passport and SSN so better luck next time. Olorun ma je!!

All prospective patients of Doctor's Hospital Dallas please take note.

Am also a Dec mom, expecting twins, heading to Dallas by Oct too. i contacted dr. dennis abbass (takes delivery at doctors Hospital) & got a total cost of $12,000 for CS (hosp, dr, pead, anaesth, hearing test). Still looking around for something cheaper though.
For all its worth, I highly recommend Dr. Abbas and Doctors Hospital. I got an exceptionally good service from both and I don't regret a dime spent. You probably won't get anything cheaper in Dallas when you do the math and you can always negotiate for discounts with all associated service providers. But of course it's always worth shopping around for cheaper deals.

My precious little girl was born yesterday September 9th after 19 hours of intense labour (smh... now I know why they call it labour).

To think that after all my sufferhead she turned out to be a carbon copy of her Dad. Chai! Can't even find anything about her that looks remotely like me. There goes my mini me dream. It is well... lol... We thank God it ended in praise!

Mother and daughter are healthy and doing very well. Like play like play I am now someone's mother. To God be the Glory. I have never felt greater love, joy and gratitude in my heart.

In fact, after seeing and holding my little bundle of joy I totally forgot the horrific birth story. Will be back when I remember the details.... grin

It is often a case of penny wise pound foolish. I have got similar issue. My potential host stays in NY, and really keen on having us, but the aggregate NY cost does not look good. It is better to pay for accommodation in faraway south, plus the freedom that comes with it, while managing to keep aggregate cost even lower.
You are right. Often but not always. Mine isn't. I'm paying about the same bill I would have paid if I had gone to Houston so I figured, why bother? Plus then again I didn't want to have to worry about the nightmare of Houston POE and I thought worst case scenario I will get a place of my own as planned.

You don't really envisage these things especially when it's the same people who you accomodated in your home in England and provided for when they had no where else to go for about 6 months. Or is England not the same "abroad"? Hence my advice in my post sometime ago not to microbudget and to always have emergency funds cos you just never know how things will play out. Imagine if I didn't, se bi I would have had to put up with the BS or be out in the streets by now Olorun ma je!

You can't totally fault these hosts sha. It's not easy having people in your house with all the 'gbese' here and there plus it's not as if life is exactly easy in this their America sef. So we live and we learn and in all things we give thanks.

Hey Cuteaidomo,

If you take the time to read mine and Olokings previous posts alone most of your questions will be answered.

The only thing I have to add from further experience is you may want to consider renting your own apartment even if you have family and friends offering you free accomodation. Then again I can't speak for all situations and it also depends on your relationship with them. However my experience has taught me that it's always better to be independent and to avoid ugly unforseen situations. Living with someone for a couple of days of summer vacation may be completely different from living with the same person for 3 months half of which you will be heavily pregnant and hormonal and the other half with a crying and demanding baby.

Just my 2 cents.

@Terese69,

The fish firsttymum is talking about is SARDINE...yes it is very rich in calcium, omega3 n vit D-needed for absorption as said by pp. Canned salmon with bones is also a good source of calcium. You have to try your best possible to consume natural calcium as much as you can cos it not only helps with healthy bones but also helps to regulate BP n prevent type 2 diabetes, wch is getting rampant in pregnancy now. Almonds are good too- though I dare not try that one!

All the best dear!
Thanks a lot. Developed juvenile arthritis cos of this my lactose problem sef but I try to do my best so I don't get more consequences that maybe even worse.

Ok na! no milk for u

First of all I'm going to assume u know the function of vit D and its relation to calcium.
Summary is u need vit D for d absorption of calcium
So that's where u see
Cod liver oil (Oga pata pata )
Kellogg's ( yes o) you'll see on their packs the content of vit D
Yoghurt , milk et al (ignore as u no dey take milk)
Fish (second Oga, but sadly can't remember d specific type sad )
Eggs ( inshort my mum sings eggs in my ears)

Fruits rich in calcium
Apple
Oranges
Dates ( can't remember d Hausa name) but aboki carry it on a tray, if don't look well u will think it's kola...... Very good for preggy mothers

Chai they use to make us cram these things in med school... But in America the list is long cos dey have all d fruits available.
Thanks Doc! At least I take a lot of oranges, eggs and fish. Will have to do better for the other sources. Didn't even know about apples.

I drank milk like it is going out of fashion since i got here.

I read somewhere that if u dont drink enough calcium in preg the baby will collect your own calcium storage from your bones and the effect will show up as osteoporosis in the future. A gallon of milk is $3 in the store. Cheap price for so much value. Got to protect my bones o!

Also, a dailymail article actually corroborates the taller kids thing.

So drinj milk mamas
What if you're lactose intolerant?

Thanks a lot Therese.i crammed this page cos I just knew I was going to come back to it.I started my ante-natal at 6wks in a hospital at Gra Ikeja.at exactly 24wks,the hospital changed location and lost my file in the process! To say I am upset is putting it mildly.
Now I have a doctor who's requested for my medical records so far(now 28wks) and I have nothing to send!!!
The Lagos doctor has said my "investigation reports could be retrieved and my history summarized" .whatever that means.
Pls could you or anyone in the house help with what exactly I should tell him my records at 29eks should include?
I'm heading to Denton Dallas and using Texas Presbyterian.
Thanks all.
Cc Olokings
What's most important is an early sonogram report alongside other sonogram reports. The earliest one you did. And then he can give you a summary of your antenatal reports and then your tests results.

They want to know if you are having mutiples or a singleton, if the there was any complications, your medical history, family medical history, stuff you compalined about during your checks etc etc.

You may also want to contact your doctor in Dallas and ask what exactly he would like to see in the summary so you can come prepared.
