Crime / Fintiri Battles APC Man In Court For Allocating Land For Tinubu Presidential Cam by TGNEWS(m): 12:32pm On Feb 20

...We are using it for public overriding interest- Fintiri's Lawyer

... counsel says the revocation of Babazango plots of land is purely political

Contrary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's reason for revoking a two-hectare of Land belonging to Abubakar Babazango (Abaza), an Adamawa All Progressives Congress (APC) who is representing Yola South/Yola North/Girei Federal Constituency for public interest to build a model school, his counsel, Barrister Desmond Adewale on Monday argued in Court that the revocation was purely political has no any intention to build a model school.

Barrister Desmond said it was an illegal revocation and recalled how the All Progressives Congress (APC) wanted to use Mahmud Ribadu Square Venue for their presidential campaign and the government of Adamawa State under the leadership of Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri refused them the use of the venue.

He said the magnanimity of Babazango who decided to give them his land for the campaign is the main reason Fintiri is hunting him through the unlawful seizure of the said Land strategically situated close to Yola International Airport.

Desmond argued that the former owner acquired the Land in 1976 and the current title owner (Abaza) legally owned it with constant payment of ground rent should not be at the moment seized for the public interest.

When addressing media men after the case mentioned in the Yola High Court with Justice Ahmed Isah presiding over the matter, Desmond asked why would it be now knowing the fact that Fintiri has been in office Since 2019.

"We've been hearing feelers from the government quarters because my clients gave that Land to the then incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, the current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the APC Governorship candidate, Hajiya Aisha Ahmed Dahiru Binani they are going to withdraw the certificate of ownership (C of O) and we got interim injunction restraining them from the use of the land is our reason of coming to court to challenge it," Desmond said

Desmond harped that the undiluted reason of the case is that Fintiri revoked the land because Babazango gave Tinubu the piece of land for campaign and it's unlawful to do that under the guise of public interest.

Desmond claimed his client (Babazango) was a victim of political rivalry who incurred the gross wrath of Fintiri after chasing a PDP HoR member at the court of appeal and considered him an archenemy to fight for giving them the political battles of their lives.

"Whoever that's telling you that the Land was revoked for the public interest is telling you a pure lie. The land was revoked he gave it to Tinubu and Binani to hold their political rally, contested the House of Representatives against the PDP member, and won at the court of appeal." Desmond.

The counsel to Babazango argued that the government of Adamawa State under the Fintiri administration is basing their argument on the Adamawa limitations of law saying that the has not exhausted the pre-action notice of thirty days before coming to court.

In defense, Desmond countered that whenever there are genuine threats, imminent danger, and infractions of Human rights there's no need to abide by that provision.

According to him the case is having a semblance of an infringement of human rights and is nothing more than a brazing display of lawlessness, and they will vigorously pursue the case upto the Supreme Court.

He further explained that the government is trying by all means to forcefully take over the as according to him the letter of revocation was served on a dead Man, on someone who has no connection to the Land on the 10th January 2024, Alhaji Jika Paris.

He accused the government of Ahmadu of backdating the letter of revocation to make the Court order restraining them from using the land useless.

In a counter motion however, the counsel to the government of Adamawa State, Barrister Abayomi Akamode said the Governor has a right to revoke the land for overriding public interest.

Abayomi while quoting section 28 of the Land Use Act said the public interest is far above the interest of an individual, Babazango.

He faulted the Plaintiff (Babazango) for not giving a pre-action notice of thirty days to the Governor as the Land use act provided.

He said his appearance in Court was to challenge the action of the plaintiff who did not give the pre-action notice of thirty days before he could commence any action to the Governor.

"We are challenging the competence of the action itself asking that the Court should strike out this suit because they have not given out the necessary pre-action notice and when you have not done so the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the case." Abayomi

The motion was adjourned by the presiding Judge for ruling on the 26th February

Crime / Senator Abbo Battles Nigeria Judiciary System Over Corruption Allegations by TGNEWS(m): 9:19pm On Feb 16

..... demands visa ban of some Judges

A former member of the Senate, Senator Elisha Abbo, on Monday, called for a visa ban against corrupt Judges and Justices in the nation’s High Courts and Court of Appeal.

Abbo who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th and part of the 10th Senate before nullification of his mandate by the Court of Appeal on October 16, 2023, made the call while briefing journalists in Abuja.

The aggrieved politician had at a similar press conference in Abuja last week, told the media that he had filed petitions against Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, Justice Olabode Adegbehingbe, and Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Sirajo, to the National Judicial Council and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), over their judgment in the electoral case between him and Reverend Amos Kumai of the PDP.

He alleged that the Justices carried out a judicial coup against democracy by nullifying the election he won with close to 12, 000 votes against his closest rival through the cancellation of votes in 253 polling units out of 924 polling units in Adamawa North Senatorial District.

Abbo said that while he was awaiting a response on petitions filed against the allegedly corrupt Justices from President Bola Tinubu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Kayode Ariwoola, and the National Judicial Council (NJC), he had also petitioned the United States of America, European Union, and United Kingdom, to slam visa ban against the affected justices.

His words: “The cause I am fighting, is not a personal one between me and Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme and others but between good and bad.

“War against corruption in Nigeria must be taken to the judiciary where some Judges and Justices are carrying out judicial banditry or coup against democracy through unjustifiable nullification of elections of people validly voted for by Nigerian electorate.

“Such judicial banditry must be fought in and outside the country by calling for a visa ban on the affected Judges and Justices and even revocation of visas of their family members already resident abroad.

“Once my petition to NJC is treated, I’m ready to open the Pandora’s box as regards calls made to me by agents of the corrupt justices, for bribes during electoral litigation against me.

“Finally, as cried out last week, President Tinubu, the CJN, and NJC should please help to save our Judiciary by withdrawing the membership of Justice Chioma NNwosu-Iheme from the Supreme Court of Justice.

“She should also on her own, resign from the bench because as long as she remains there, people like me, will not stop telling the whole world, the banditry she is running in the judiciary. A bad Judge is worse than 100 terrorists.

ANA whose mandate is one Arewa, one Vision and one Agenda in a theme Moving Households from vulnerability to prosperity, a dialogue session where Pakka was opportune to present a paper on ending poverty through productivity inclusion.

Pakka during his presentation said the reality of Nigeria current economy is that Nigerians are living in a stolen economy and the country is only existing by the mere geographical location of the name.

Pakka during the ANA event where high profiled Personalities from the Northern region to include Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, former secretary to the Government of the Federation who was the distinguished Chairman of the occasion, Former Governor of Bauchi, Isa Yugudu, former Governor of Zamfara, Ahmed Sani (Yeriman Bukura), former Majority Leader, Senator Jonathan Zwingina. The Convener, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Abubakar Moallayidi, Sheikh Khalid Nurudeen, the Methodists Bishop of Sokoto, Rt Dr Ishaya Kunama and many attended the event which Pakka revealed the truth State of Nigerian mineral resources as abandoned sector laying unharnessed.

According to Pakka that who feeds you owns you. He worried that China, US are providers of our shelter, education, Health and other basic needs of living.

The Adamawa born mineral resources expert stressed that everything depend on importation will lead to a collapse economy.

"We are living in a stolen economy, our mobility, infrastructure, clothes, technology, Agriculture are all foreign based. The over two hundreds million Nigerians depends on importation. So Our economy is not in Nigeria, it's somewhere elsewhere." He said

He said that the Smart economy of the world like China have taken seventy percent of Nigerians, according to him Chinese government have smartly stolen Nigerian's economy with impunity because they provide virtually all the country needs to survive.

"Because they provide us what we survive on, over two hundred million Nigerians are living in China and virtually all of us are living outside Nigeria. Whoever you are, business Man or civil servant you are a foreigner because you are feeding on someone's economy.

"AIt's only our geographical location that is Nigeria. I'm telling you the reality of our economy that whatever you think human beings need are imported, it's the crux of the issue that's killing our economy and bringing down our naira value to a mere tissue paper." He said

Pakka however said that if the government should tilt towards having a proactive, revitalize and contemporary bills Nigeria will have a revive economy and in six months the wide gap between dollar and naira will collapsed.

He called on the federal government to use the National Assembly to create bills that are contemporary in nature with direct effects to the common Man the margin between dollar and naira will be history.

Pakka also reiterated that if Government should understand and work on the mapping of Nigeria where fallow land is in abundance and bring in clusters productivity through corporate model, bring investors Nigeria will become an enterprise nation with a self reliance economy.

"If Nigeria government will shift their thinking, activate solid mineral value change, and secure Agricultural value change, put them on a platform that is exportable. Bring in technology for finishing. Demand on dollar will automatically fall. Because When you are not producing value you are a dependent that will certainly crippled down the economy of a nation.

"Anything you demand high has prospect of good value. Anything you demand low has less value. By the time what you need is produce locally we don't need a dollar. It's unfortunate Nigeria of today is having a high demand of dollar than a naira. It's the propeller of our economy Crisis." He said

Politics / PR Journalist Asks NBC To Sanction Media Org Alluded To Binani's Declaration by TGNEWS(m): 5:05pm On Feb 07
By Tom Garba, Yola

A Public Relations (PR) Professional Mr Felix Samari has advocated a severe punishment to all the media organizations who in one way or the other aided Senator Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru (Binani) in declaring herself a winner of the Adamawa State Governorship.

He called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to activate appropriate sanctions on all those who are involved in what he described as lawlessness and they should also explain to Nigerians why they were active participants in the attempted day light robbery.

According to him When the attempt to steal the mandate of the people of Adamawa State by Senator Aisha Dahiru (also known as Binani) was cooked and hatched, there was no way it would have been perpetrated without the active role of the mass media.

He revealed that the declaration of Binani wound not have been possible to get the impact it got without using a medium like a reputable television station to make the announce and get the Self acclaimed victory aired in her acceptance speech.

"It is very difficult to exonerate or absolve those media houses that gave Binani and Hudu their airwaves to cause the pandemonium that almost resulted in loss of lives. One is left with no option but to see them potential collaborators in the heist. " He said

He said the declaration in the first instance made by the wanted ex Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa Mr Hudu Harri was covered by only one media house. How they managed to be there at the time and gave Hudu their national and international platform to make a declaration that was capable causing mayhem is still to be explained.

He lamented that the media station at the INEC office when Hudu was making his dramatic declaration (maybe a coincidence of their being there at the time of happening) but the one that was at her house was no doubt a preplanned one.

"The media platform that was stationed at Binani's residence to cover live broadcast of the shenanigan acceptance speech is more than a mere happenstance. She got through the national and the international community with a lie made possible by this medium.

"I am not a lawyer, I am writing as a professional PR practitioner who is concerned about the role of mass media in promoting democracy and that they must be held accountable as the fourth estate of the realm that have the implicit ability to frame political issues and shape the perspective and perception of national discourse.

"Binani failed in the heist therefore whoever was a collaborator must also face the consequences of their actions so as serve as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to allow selfish or personal interest sways them from doing their professional duties.

"It is very important that matters of such magnitude are not swept under the carpet now that the Supreme Court has vindicated the Governor of Adamawa as the rightful choice of the people. I call on security agencies to also investigate the involvement of the media houses in these criminal episodes that happened in Adamawa on April 16, 2023." Felix said

Education / Gov Fintiri's Significant Efforts In Reforming Education Sector In Adamawa by TGNEWS(m): 5:43pm On Feb 05
By
Ahmed Babale Mirchaulum

This my Opinion highlights Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's significant efforts in reforming the education sector in Adamawa State, Nigeria.

Prior to Governor Fintiri's administration, Adamawa State education system faced numerous challenges, including lack of funding, inadequate infrastructure, and high out-of-school children rates. Recognizing education's crucial role in development, Governor Fintiri made it a top priority, implementing various initiatives with remarkable success.

A product of the public education system himself, Governor Fintiri understands its value firsthand. He holds degrees in History and Policy & Strategic Studies, demonstrating his commitment to knowledge and strategic thinking. No wonder, being educated, intelligent, vibrant and a grassroots politician who passed through the four walls of a university, he knows and appreciates the value of education in the socioeconomic development of the society.

He therefore not only identified education sector as a top priority of his administration as second to security, but also made education the centre-piece of his administration’s policies and programs; hence his decision to invest massively in the education sector in order to make Adamawa work again.
Key Initiatives and Achievements:

•Free Education: Eliminating financial barriers, the administration implemented free basic education across the state, significantly increasing enrollment.

•School Feeding Program: Reintroduced school feeding for boarding students, ensuring better nutrition and improved learning outcomes.

Teacher Support: Recruited 2,000 teachers, provided training, and increased the retirement age for science teachers, promoting teacher quality and retention.

Infrastructure Development: Launched construction of model nursery, primary, and junior secondary schools across all 21 local government areas, and comprehensive "mega" secondary schools in each senatorial district. This initiative addresses infrastructure needs and expands access to quality education.

Examinations and Scholarships: Covered WAEC/NECO fees for final year students and provided scholarships to tertiary students, easing financial burdens and promoting higher education attainment.
Technology Integration: Procured science equipment and mobile laboratories, enhancing STEM education and critical thinking skills.

University Development: Constructed lecture halls at Adamawa State University and approved the conversion of College of Legal Studies to a Faculty of Law, expanding facilities and academic offerings.
These initiatives have yielded impressive results:

√Improved educational quality
√Enhanced STEM education
√Increased access to education
√Promotion of equity and inclusion
√Infrastructure development
√Human capital development

Governor Fintiri's 2024 budget prioritizes spreading development across Adamawa. He is committed to allocating over a billion Naira for projects in each of the 21 local government areas, including the construction of model and mega schools. This move reflects his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and fostering a sense of inclusion beyond the state capital.
However, some argue for prioritizing the rehabilitation of existing schools and skill vocational centers. While acknowledging this concern, it's important to highlight that the Governor has already implemented well-designed approaches for these areas. The new projects aim to further expand access to quality education and equip young people with essential skills, ultimately contributing to Adamawa State long-term development.

It can be observed that Governor Fintiri's approach focuses on a dual track: maintaining existing school infrastructure while concurrently constructing new ones based on needs and distribution. This ensures immediate improvements while expanding capacity for the future. Additionally, the state actively recruits new teachers and provides ongoing training for existing ones, aiming to enhance their quality, and welfare, and ultimately increase student enrollment and tackle the issue of out-of-school children.

Governor Fintiri's work has garnered national recognition, including the "Best Governor on Educational Development" award from Business Day Newspaper.
This comprehensive approach to education reform is transforming Adamawa State's educational landscape. By investing in infrastructure, teachers, technology, and accessibility, Governor Fintiri is laying the foundation for a brighter future for the state's children and its overall development.

Nairaland / General / Renewed Hope Is The Rd Map Of Ending Poverty- ANA Assures Nigerians by TGNEWS(m): 6:45pm On Jan 30
The successful event of Arewa New Agenda (ANA) in 2023 when it organized a Conference in Abuja on renewed hope as the road map of ending poverty have received wide commendation in and outside the shores of Nigeria.

Building on the last year breakthrough, ANA has yet organized another dialogue session with an emphasize on tackling poverty in Northern Nigeria by providing another avenue for convergence to deepen the discussion around strategies to deal with the cancer worm called poverty.

The convener, Sen Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi signed a concept note on a follow-on discussion which is a sustainable strategic solution seeking dialogue of moving Households from Vulnerability to prosperity.

ANA convener revealed that there is a predicated understanding that households in rural families (141million out of 200million) suffer from food insecurity due to low incomes, limited knowledge about proper household asset management, and inadequate nutrition practices.

According to him the common Man have not been getting the real support effective enough to provide them with the skills they need to improve their livelihoods, nutritional intake that will enable them to take that critical step out of poverty.

This year's dialogue is scheduled to hold 10th February 2024, by 9:30am and the Venue of the event is going to be International Conference Center (ICC) Abuja about 100 people are expected to be in attendance as participants.

He said the Goal of the follow-on dialogue session will be an all-day event; with a morning and afternoon session devoted to provoking thoughts around the key elements that must be addressed and critical steps that must be taken to engender sustainable and achievable initiatives that sets the ground for moving Northern Nigeria from poverty to prosperity.

The meeting Objectives includes but not limited to; Formulating an initiative that Enterprises poor households to ending poverty through productivity inclusion in the Solid Mineral value chain set in motion initiatives that seeks to Increase household agricultural production and incomes support households to build capacity for economic engagement inside and outside of the home

Expose the ANA home-grown poverty reduction avenues, strategies and innovative solutions for moving poor household from dependency on humanitarian assistance to engage in other economic activities in States ravaged by insurgency and banditry.

To take a closer look at the question of Northern political leadership in the current dispensation. ANA has posited in its charter of operations that “Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with its 36 States and a Federal Capital Territory. Out of this, Northern Nigeria comprises of 19 States and has a population of about 160 million people; this is one of our prides as Northerners.

"Nigeria has a gross domestic product of USD 3, 203.3 per capital and ranked the 6th major oil producing nation in the world. The sad commentary is that 86.9 million Nigerians out an estimated 200 million are living in extreme poverty; this represents nearly 50% of the populace; of these figures, 85% are in Northern Nigeria and this is our worry.

"Past efforts at enhancing the confidence of the people to take that critical step out of poverty is faced with some very worrying socio-economic indices; including high maternal mortality, child mortality, poverty and underdevelopment. These indices are worst in the core States of Northern Nigeria.

"Therefore, poverty in Nigeria is mostly rural. Macroeconomic shocks tend to affect rural areas much more than cities. Poverty, for example, is expected to decline by more than 40% in cities, and to increase by over 7% in rural areas.

"This is the basis of the rural-urban migration drift in Northern Nigeria. This follow-on dialogue seeks to unveil a steady and intensive series of sustainable realistic strategies woven into interventions that can be implemented so that households can recover, build, rebound and ultimately grow their way out of poverty.

"This will be supplemented by the consistent ability and capacity to design and implement interventions across different social and economic sectors to support households to escape the poverty trap." He said

He further said experts will lead a paper on appraising the provisions for poverty reduction in the 2024 national budget, a Proposed Presidential Initiative on: Nigeria Integrated Capital Investment Platform (NICIP): Gate way to National wealth creation and ending poverty through productivity inclusion and Initiatives/solutions for a sustained poverty reduction in Northern Nigeria

Professor Medaner Osuji; Mr. John Pakka (President/CEO, African Mineral Rating & Exchange Ltd.) And Sen Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi; Convener Arewa New Agenda ANA will present papers on the proposed topics respectively.

"This will follow an opening ceremony where select dignitaries will make speeches to set the program rolling as contained in the agenda.

"The afternoon session will be the discussions around the issues raised in the various presentations and finally a statement will be issued showing next steps pending the compilation of a comprehensive report.

"The session will also take a closer look at the question of Northern political leadership in the current dispensation with a view to adopting a consensus leader." Abubakar said

Nairaland / General / Kuteb Leaders Rejects T.Y. As The Next Ukwe Of Takum, Warn Govt by TGNEWS(m): 5:51pm On Jan 25
By Tom Garba, Yola

The Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria (KYN), the umbrella body of the Kuteb people from Taraba State on Thursday said that the Kuteb people will not sit back and allow the state government to take the traditional stool of Ukwe Takum and hand it over to General TY Danjuma as compensation for his developmental strides in the State

The National President of the group Mr Emmanuel Ukwen, who said this at a Press conference in Jalingo, said TY Danjuma can be honoured with any traditional titles but not the stool of the Ukwe Takum which is an exclusive preserve of the Kuteb people

He cautioned that Governor against instigating crisis in the State and urged security Chiefs in the State to focus on tackling the prevailing security challenges affecting the area, rather than allow the Governor to stir mayhem in that part of the State.

“The attention of Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria, Likam and Akente ruling houses of Ukwe Takum has been drawn to the outcome of the consultative meeting, His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas had with Likam and Akente ruling Houses of Ukwe Takum on Saturday, 20th day of January, 2024 wherein His Excellency told the ruling Houses of his resolve to demolish the Kuteb Takum Dynasty and do something else.

The determination by the Governor to honour Gen. T.Y. Danjuma for his developmental strides in the State which is not in doubt, we wish to State emphatically that as lofty as such developments are, Gen. T.Y. Danjuma cannot be honored with a traditional Stool of UKWE TAKUM or any other traditional Stool in the State. Traditional Stool is distinct and separate from Traditional Title and so cannot be dished out to anybody outside the Royal Families. In this wise, Gen. T.Y. Danjuma can be honoured with a “Traditional Title” not an existing Chieftaincy Stool. Ascention to Traditional Stools being subject to product of native Law and custom are by Inheritance. If this is allowed, even other traditional Stools in the State will one day be given to any person in the State who had performed brilliantly and credibly well in his developmental strides. God forbid

The Kuteb see the UKWE TAKUM STOOL as the inheritance of their Fathers and have no reason whatsoever to give or Share it with any other non-Kuteb under whatsoever guise. We wish to humbly State further that the position of His Excellency recently to destroy the Kuteb Dynasty of Ukwe Takum has no root and is quite unacceptable.

“We also wish to inform His Excellency Gov. Kefas Agbu that Ukwe Takum Stool is not an exclusive affair of the Likam and Akenten Ruling houses but a Kuteb nation affairs as a whole. So by always inviting the Akenten and Likam only to discuss the Ukwe Takum issue is not good enough. The Governor also told Kuteb delegation in a meeting on Sat. 20th January, 2024 that all Kuteb leaders are dead and that Kuteb have enemies around them e.g. Tiv, Chamba, Fulanis, adding that how would they Succeed as they have no one to stand for them. The Governor failed to remind himself that the Wukari people also fought with Tivs, Fulanis and Hausas. Does it then mean that Wukari people will not Succeed?

“We wish to inform our Traditional rulers in the state that they should know that they came to the throne of their fore-fathers through inheritance as such they should advise the Governor on the right things to do in the case of Takum Ukwe Stool. They are Custodians of Tradition and Custom and should protect it anywhere by all cost. they should be mindful of nemesis. To our Security Chiefs we call on them to advise the Governor against instigating violence or crises in Takum. Our Security Chiefs should focus on tackling rampaging Kidnapping and banditry in the State rather than allowing the Governor to cause mayhem in Takum which has being engulfed in crises in which innocent blood have been spilled over the years.

“In this regard, we thank our brothers and friends who understand our plight and always stand by us in the great struggle. We call on Kuteb youths to remain calm, Law abiding and be cautious of the misuse of social media” the statement reads in parts.

Nairaland / General / Tgnews Public Lecture: Eschew Fake News, Prof Pate Warns Media Professionals by TGNEWS(m): 8:35am On Jan 10

... says 'when you creates crisis online it'll translate to crisis offline'

By Tom Garba, Yola

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Kashere, Professor Umar Pate has warned Media practitioners against the dangerous use of rumors and lies to generate context that will disinform, misinform, and mal-inform the general public culminating to fake news.

Pate said this when he gave a public lecture on: "The Media, Social Media, and National Security: Balancing the free flow of information with responsible journalism in Nigeria" organized by TGNEWS, an online media organization with its corporate Headquarters in Yola, Adamawa State.

Pate, who is an ace broadcaster and veteran journalist as well as an internationally renowned Mass communication expert, said credibility, truthfulness, reliability, and dynamism are hallmarks of practical principles of good journalism.

He warned journalists, especially those taking the advent of technology to practice online journalism to run away from generating fake news as content for the general public because it changes the psychological mindset of people, especially in crisis situation.

According to him, when a journalist creates a crisis online, it will translate to a crisis offline which will lead to serious chaos, killings, and bloodbaths across many parts of the country, each having its own share of insecurity challenges, including bandits, Boko Haram, kidnappers, Shila Boys, and Many others.

"When you create a crisis online, it translates into a crisis offline as a result of poisoned information that will always poison the psychology of the citizens.

"When this is achieved there will be a crisis in interpersonal relationships among communities, and once relationships are not properly defined, conflicts, chaos, killings, and bloodbaths will envelop the entire nation," Pate said

Pate addressed Politicians, captains of industries, traditional rulers, community leaders, media executives, and business tycoons in their number who gathered in Lelewal Hotel's Hall who have come to witness the award ceremony to honor prominent Nigerians and unsung heroes as part of Tgnews corporate social responsibility.

He warned Media men never to allow the challenges caused by the advent of the internet and the revolution of information and communication technology, ICT, to stop them from maintaining ethical standards because it's the only way that fake news, disinformation, and other media mishaps like Quack journalists are using to cause confusion and lack of trust among people, communities, individuals, societies, organizations, and nations

This according to him could also mean that the Journalists working in the field of journalism are not safe. Their political, economic, social, online, and psychological safety is not guaranteed, and It will lead to a Crisis in the qualities of practice which will now translate into a crisis in the qualities of Journalists.

He worried that the convention media are grappling with the challenges of Credibility, funding, and intellect because of bottleneck of the advent of modern technology.

"In the past media organizations could easily depend on adverts and sales of their products and survive but today the concept has collapsed. Google, Amazon, and many other big organizations have taken advertising concepts from conventional media because of the wider advantages of technology they are leveraging.

"Online TV stations, Radio stations, blogs, online newspapers, and magazines are competing with media organizations in angling adverts, which is a serious challenge for the media organizations.

"Technology is the window that connects Media organizations with the rest of the world. Reach, Revenue, resilience and many more are what will keep the media foun. The gadgets and the equipment are the right technology that the media industry needs from other countries to operate better.

"With good equipment and sound intellect, local organizations can compete well with big international media organizations." He added

He further explained standard news created by Quacks, unprincipled or those journalists who do not want to maintain ethical standards are adding more salt to injuries to the issues of insecurity by what they are dishing out to the public as news.

He revealed that in Nigeria today because of insecurity challenges people have restricted themselves to their communities. Young people only grow to know and understand Nigeria and Nigerians on social media platforms.

For that reason according to Professor Pate the empathy and feelings of other Nigerians are missing, so many people lack knowledge of the other parts of Nigeria, and the systems that make up the country's economy are localized.

"You can hardly see teachers from a different community working in another community. People who do not know and appreciate themselves will not bring good content to a country like Nigeria.
"Because of misinformation and the dangerous use of social media people tribalize and Politicize everything.

"It's unhealthy for our nation that People speak to you based on ethnicity, and religion not based on merit or objectivity. We will continue to pay painfully if the advent of technology is not rightful use will continue to cause problems for all of us." He lamented

Pate proffered a solution that Online Journalists need to be trained to understand the principles of practicing good Journalism within the context of global standards that will bring peace and tranquility to Nigeria.

Pate who was also an awardee of the TGnews for dedication service was honored and extolled as a Man with the heart of goal for humanity.

Pate alongside Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, immediate past secretary to the federal government of Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, former governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, and the member representing Fufore/Song federal constituency in the house of representatives, Hon. Nairaland / General / AMCON: An Agency That Has Overstayed Its Welcome by TGNEWS(m): 3:04am On Dec 16, 2023
By Oscar Japhet

The story of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) just like many other agencies of the Nigerian government, is that of a beautiful concept that was poorly implemented over time, resulting to loss of public confidence and damage to the economy.

There is no doubt that huge non-performing loans pose a big challenge to financial institutions and the Nigerian economy, which led to the creation of AMCON. Unfortunately, instead of sticking to its original mandate, AMCON officials appear to be more interested in taking over the assets of these businesses with the aim of selling them off to themselves and/or their cronies for mere pittance.

In any case, most of these loans that turned bad, came about due to the economic downturn and the policy flip-flops of the government which are beyond the control of these business owners.

Therefore, one begins to wonder whose interests AMCON and their officials are serving. Does it not bother them that this penchant of taking over companies and assets leads to loss of jobs? Of what benefit is it to the Government and the economy if the operations of AMCON is worsening the already bad economic situation with the closure of companies?

At its inception, the understanding that the banking industry and the business community at large had, was that AMCON will help to strengthen the economy.

However, there is a widely held but very wrong impression that every loan that went bad was due to mismanagement of funds, hence the first step is to seize the assets of the company concerned. This is akin to everyone being tarred with the same brush.

Has anyone stopped to ask, why do many loans go bad? Has the economic policies of the past and present governments been supportive of the private sector? Let us take for instance, the recent unification of the exchange rate. How will a borrower, who only 3 months ago took a huge short-term bank loan in Naira to import goods in US Dollars, make substantial profit and repay the said loan within the agreed period? What has the government done to stem the rising tide of smuggling, which suffocates local producers? What about the deteriorating infrastructure? More questions than answers!

Therefore, this lack of human face by the government with respect to the local businesses has created a band of undertakers in AMCON, who witch-hunt borrowers whose business are facing challenges. As soon as these businesses show any semblance of distress, they pounce on their juicy assets, not with the aim of recovering the loans, but with the ulterior motive of lining their pockets with the lucre that comes from selling off these assets.

Stories are replete of how AMCON has taken over businesses that are still going concerns and today such businesses are barely surviving, some are even no longer existing.

To make matters worse is the current trend of trying to use the judiciary to legalize this obnoxious practice. In recent times, the media has been awash with cases of ex-parte injunctions obtained by AMCON against companies, in order to take over their assets. This is despite the fact that most of these companies are still negotiating with AMCON on how these debts are to be paid.

In fact, it is no longer news, that AMCON choses and picks which court judgments to obey and ignore. Therefore, most times they act even when they are restrained by court orders, which is a clear case of contempt of court.

In some cases, the debts in question have been cleared but AMCON chooses to turn a blind eye to the facts because the acquisition of assets, especially those located in highbrow areas, serves the interest of highly placed AMCON officials and their paymasters.

There is no gainsaying the fact that AMCON is a party in most of these court cases, instituted by them or against them. Therefore, it is alarming that the management of AMCON hobnobs with the judges who are handling these cases. One begins to wonder how these judges can maintain their independence in these matters.

A good case in point, is the recent training programme for judges of the Federal High Courts, held in London and bankrolled by AMCON. What was the real essence of this seminar? Does it mean that up till this moment, Your Lordships are not well acquainted with the dynamics of financial cases, hence the need to be properly “schooled” by AMCON and their agents? Even if there is need for this so-called training, should it not have been conducted by another neutral agency? There is more to this than meet the eye.

It goes without saying that the time has come for the government to review the operations of AMCON and determine whether it is still relevant in the scheme of the overall project of the nation’s economic revival and sustenance of businesses. This is against the backdrop of the fact that AMCON, established about 14 years ago, was initially convinced as an ad-hoc arrangement that would round-off its activities within a 10-year period by which time it is believed that the other statutory regulatory organs in the financial/banking industry such as the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) would have been better equipped to properly monitor the industry players and reduce the cases of bad loans.

However, due to the usual Nigerian factor, AMCON has transited from a temporary to a permanent agency. This is good news for those who are benefitting from this cesspit of corruption but bad news for the Nigerian business community as the activities of AMCON poses a danger to general economic prosperity.
