shocked
ikennahill: funny Nigerian Medical doctors,u want your own residency but you are fighting others from doing fellowship in their own field(not medicine). It baffles me how these medical doctors think. Some are saying it is war with government,do they know the power government have? Hmmmm my brother go and read about government in time of war .I love this thing done by our president.Medical doctors in 9ja don chew too much.

You are fighting every other health care professional from growing to their peak, from been directors, from been consultants in their own field, from getting their allowances, from becoming CMDs,from further training, from existing.

You are Commissioner of health, ministers of health, perm sec ministry of health in Federal and 97% of states, you are directors of medical service in federal and state ministry,if FMOH and atste Ministry of health have 5 directors you have 4 directors out of five, you are head of HMBs in most states, you are chairmen of most Federal and state Hospital and health related boards and parastattals, including Nafdac, primary health, etc.

You are MDs,head of most departments including colonization of some of them by force eg optometrist and ophthalmologist, etc, you even want to head medical lab, account dept, administration, medical record, etc. This is not enough after leading(was it actual leading?) and heading everywhere you turn around to say our system is in shamble because of a student that refuse to learn though government pay for his training, his salaries even while in training and will pay him higher on graduation.

WHY IS GOVT NOW EMPLOYING 490 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS NOW? THIS HAVE BEEN ADVOCATED AND APPROVED FOR LONG BUT NMA HAVE BEEN SITTING ON THIS USING THEIR VARIOUS CONNECTION LIKE THEY DO TO OTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

.NMA COLONISED MASTERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH(MPH) IN NIGERIA,BUT PUBLIC HEALTH IS FOR EVERYBODY INCLUDING GRADUATES OF MASS COMMUNICATION ,HISTORY,ARCHITECTURE,ETC.IN 2011 THE BEST MPH STUDENT IN UCT WAS AN UGANDAN THAT READ MASS COMMUNICATION IN UGANDA.AS IF THIS IS NOT ENOUGH SOME OF THE SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA RENAMED MPH TO BE COMMUNITY HEALTH FOR NON MBBS MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS TO DIFFERENTIATE THEM FROM MPH WHILE THEY DO THE SAME COURSE,TAKE LECTURES TOGETHER WITH MBBS MPH STUDENTS,TAKES THE SAME EXAM BUT GET DIFFERENT CERTIFICATE.TODAY EBOLA IS HERE WITH US AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS ARE TO BE EMPLOYED,THEN WHERE ARE THOSE MDCAN PUB HEALTH CONSULTANTS.
JONATHAN I DOFF MY HAT FOR YOU.IT IS 2 MONTHS NOW MBBS DOCTORS ARE ON STRIKE AND WE ARE STILL ALIVE.GOD WILL KEEP US ALIVE TILL HE DECIDE TO CALL US HOME ANY DAY HE WISH.

DrWise: This is s step in the right direction by the Jonathan administration. These incompetent fools addressed as doctors cannot hold us to ransom. In trying times like this when ebola virus is threatening to wipe out our very existence, these fools are happily on strike and you want the FG to relax and watch these renegade crumble the health sector as a result of superiority fight?

The same people that enjoy various privileges including highest paid during NYSC and various bursaries are the ones engaging the government in a faceoff. The Fashola administration used the same approach of locums and put an end to a seeming situation some time ago.

I have a younger sister who is a medical doctor and I have told her severally that I am disappointed in the NMA, MDCN and whatever umbrella you group.

No going back by the FGN!

undecidedNice write ^ but again fails 2 address issues @ stake. Seems 2 put most of the blames @ d doctors's desk using harsh adjectives.
I agree that perhaps strike by Doctors should not be total because of tthe sensitive nature of the profession and I will probably be an ambassador for such position among colleagues now. However let noone call for doctors's heads because of one kind of oath.so even if the conditions were harsher than this,if I am not paid my salary ,(like doctors in FMC owerri being owed oustanding arrears) I must continue 2 borrow 2 eat.
In the united states 2/3rd of doctors no longer swear the hippocratic oath @ their graduation. Why? People say they must continue 2 suffer because they are under an oath
Nobody is retarding any other person's progress per se , all we are saying is don't create confusion ii patient's care.I don't want dabble into the qualifications of being one as most johesuites calling for one probably do not merit it
A professor in a university is in the same cadre as a director in the civil service but is he then a director? Does he have powers and privileges like a registrar who is also one? This is what we are saying with respect 2 appointment of consultants. The position should even the more guarded as it revolves around human lives.
A doctor just contacted Ebola from a patient in the course of treatment. I personally know a lot of doctors with tuberculosis contacted in the hospital and a case of HIV has been reported. All health workers in general now are endangered specie, let us concur. How can then asking for an increase from 5000 be tantamount 2 cruelty? Inspite of this, I am sure the strike would still be called off without the government paying the requested amount. Infact,it is th least of the demands
We have an unserious government ,this the crux of the mattter. It is the politicians who do nothing, but cart away everything. The cases that could be cited are myriads. I will pause here..

bigass: I know 5 doctors that are not practising. They work in the bank. Will you blame them for any patients death? Many are travelling out. Many work in the oil sector
. Many people erroneously tink if you are a doctor, it means you are in money and then they say you are still asking for more
I wish they knew.I rember @ one ARD meeting when a doctor was lamenting ow he had a serious quarrel his wife that morning because of d children's school fees. My friend,an accountant is building his 2nd house and another,a computer engineer now with 4 children(he has 2 cars) is moving 2 his apartment soon. These are pple we finished secondary school together. Apart from my car, I don't know of any asset(if u tink it is one) I have. I have been paying exemptions, update course fees and exam fees. Before a doctor 'hits' it,his mates are already tinking of retiring having made so much money. This isn't where I tot I would be in life( no regrets o!)When I was filing JAMB form.
The' fat' salary people tink doctor earns is definitely overated. If I had the time a nurse who works 4/5 days(6 hours each) and gets 2 days off or works 7 nights and another 7 days off, I would be a millionaire! . Doctors spend many hours @ work including 24hours call , yet people say 'their oliver twist is too much'.
Why would I allow my child be a doctor?(except he is very interested).Apart from the prestige which can sometimes be 2 ur disadvantage( and doctors understand what I mean), what is this fuss about being a doctor please?Everyday, doctors including consultants leave the shores of this country 2 even neighbouring african country in search of green pastures( not greener as there was never green in nigeria o). I pity the government . Its its ineptitude that has led us 2 this X_X state. Indeed one of the reasons why this strike is lingerung is because of the fear of another JOHESU strike if it concedes 2 the demand of the doctors.if the government had done the needful, explaining and standing on its ground that the post of the CMd cannot be occupied by a medical record officer , we would not have been in this mess
For me, the government should take bull by the horns and clearly spell out the role of each health worker and its career pprogression. Thus from the ouset, a medical lab scientist can quickly go back 2 study pharmacy again suppose it is the pharmacy that can only be the CMd.
I know a professor of radiothaerapy today who had a a degree in pharmacy before rematriculating 2 study medicin..
HealthRe: NMA Strike And Crises In The Health Sector by thaqib(m): 5:21pm On Jul 25, 2014
aluunoble: Thanks for ur advice but u might not do less in u were in ma shoe. Remember, not all doctors are surgeons! There is no justification of a more than 1000 per cent increase in hazard allowance. If we should base the justification of the bloated demand for an increase of Harzard Allowance from the current #5000 to a sky-rocketed #100,000, please further tell the public how a Doc gets to know that a patient is resistant to TB...maybe when a TB patient goes to the Lab for a follow-up test or for a doc to know the progression of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis after the patient has been comfirmed TB +Ve he/she by way of 'voluntary action' refuses to cough. Mind u broh, there is no Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) in Nig in this 21st century that is of Level 3 in any Public Health facility. Yes! I speak with facts! Hence, the Lab Scientist is predisposed to nosocomia infection posed by TB and the like. How do u know a TB patient is drug-resistant if such a patient had not being placed on a therapy? May be a Pharmacist never dispensed drugs and the in-patient was never attended to by a Nurse. Pls let the public be informed of the percentage of surgeons in Nig amidst the doctors. Unfortunately, greed has eaten deep into the fabrics and further beclouded the sense of objective reasoning of NMA. I reserve my comment on the embezzlement saga as I dnt know who to blame for the abysmal performance of EFCC and ICPC because if there had been equal to the task, corruption would have been defaced in Nig Dictionary! All I pray for is sanity in every sector of our national life! Imagine if Nigeria was USA!
see, everybody is important in the care of the patient but the doctor by CLINICAL training is the leader. This is a fact,no sentiment. We treat patient, not result. The results confirms diagnosis, guides and modulates treatment. HARDLY makes the diagnosis alone.
N5000 never covers the risk a doctor/mls is exposed 2,so is the 100,000 but there is a difference between the two. Somewhere in our mind, we know the government would probably not pay and yet the strike would end. Those are not the crux of this industrial action.
The crucial issues are those that denigrade the role of the doctor and would create anarchy in the system.
2 believe that all members of JOHESU should be on the same pedestral with the doctor is not only unfair but inhuman. Even among JOHESU members, there are levels...
So my final comment is that if you are not a doctor, why do you want 2 take the doctor's pie?

cheesy
aluunoble: HAZARD ALLOWANCE, RURAL POSTING AND OTHER ALLOWANCES
Let me start with the hazard allowance. I will simply ask a question here to any member of the public. Is five thousand naira (about 28 USD or 18 GBP) enough compensation for any of the following risks to your life (and by extension, the life of your immediate family) every single day? People coughing into your face; blood splashing onto your clothes, skin, eyes and mouth; handling human faeces, urine, flesh and other fluids; working with razors, knives and needles around patients with highly infective conditions (HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Lassa Fever, Tuberculosis and others)?
If anyone would say yes to the question, or argue that they are more exposed to these dangers than the Doctor or Nurse, let them come out. I will stop at that.

Pls kindly educate the public who plays with those aforementioned human secretions, faeces, urine, blood and blood products in the course of diagnosis. It's shameful to say the least that u guyz wil even claim to be peeing and pooing 4 d patients too in the course of prognosis and diagnosis. Hw do u knw a patient has hepatitis, Hiv, lassa fever n d recent Ebola virus without proper Laboratory test? Maybe the Lab Scientists do it by Infrared or better still bluetooth hence they r not exposed to biological hazards as u claim.... What of the nurses that take it upon themselves to carter and care for the patients as if they are blood-bonded? If u claim to care about their welfare as u sided them just in this instance in the context of ur write up why didn't u capture them as part of the supposed beneficiaries of the #100,000 Hazard allowance? Shame on u and ur cronies on this platform peddling falsehood to the general public.U must not be a pathologic and pathetic liar to score cheap points. I think the public need to know that the only Laboratory in Nig @ the momnet where the much dreaded lassa fever is diagnosed is owned by a Med Lab Scientist in Edo State in the person of Prof. Agbonlahor
On the issue of dilapidated hospital facilities who is to blame? A Chief Med Director (a thieving Doctor) who awards contracts via the back door in a bid to siphon money or the the FG? I think the FG as every blame has alwayz been on them...I could term u to be worse than Boko Haram if u fail to inform the public that JUTH Labs (Med Microbiology and Chem Path to be precise) are yet to be completed after a decade that presidnt Obj commisioned the new site and the Doctors of a Chief Med Directors that have come and gone are yet unpertubbed. Where is the contracted money meant for it? Obum let me further wash the dirty linen of ur JUTH to the public; refute it if u can, that the Chief Med Dir allegedly hijacked money that was purpotedly meant for workers Dec 2013 bonus and bouth a Range Rover worth millions of Naira. U guyz are regrettably incurably greedy. The Docs are the fundamental problem in the health sector esp the ones that were trained here in Nig. I hv graciously observed that Docs trained abroad are more cultured, humble, dedicated and mannered than their counterparts in Nig. Obembe ur NMA boss is still living in anachronistic disillusionment and hence misleading u guyz. I pray the court settle all this injustices in the health sector soonest as it remains the last hope of the common man. Endeavour to oblige to court ruling in toto and not treat it with unhealthy comtempt. I wish u luck!
Mr medical laboratory scientist( u need not tell us you are one now), you are quite rude in your response but nevertheless u made some valid points. Yes, it is true med lab scientists are exposed 2 blood and other body fluids and should be entitled 2 hazards allowance( I guess u are collecting some).but I make bold 2 say your risk is not more than the doctor who operate on such patient for hours in the theatre or the doctor who come in contact with the extended drug resistant tuberculosis patient every day on the wards. In any case, you can shout too for government 2 pay you more...
You make me laugh when you said a CMD embezzle some money in the hospital. Do you read the news @ all? If that is true, the man should be prosecuted and appopriate discplinaary action taken. However, you and I know corruption is an unwritten law in our constitution. We read about it everyday in the papers so pls shout about it as it occurs in other aspect of the society. It doesn't make a medical lab scientist better eligible for the post. Can you bet, no medical laboratory scientist is corrupt including u? Please I want 2 keep one hundred million in your custody for a month and promise me nothing would happen 2 it..
Pls let's address issues and leave professional sentiments. Dagba has spoken the whole truth.,,

hugafella: I strongly condemn the actions of the doctors. They go on strike these days far more than is good for comfort, without minding the human cost or loss of lives involved. These doctors are so heartless because they are already very highly paid. Our doctors have already become glorified mercenaries who just want the money at all costs. who else is as highly paid as they are? The doctors strikes every now and then has lost every sense of decency, morality, and public support and now borders on the ridiculous . Only in lawless Nigeria will doctors take laws into their own hands. We need to sack all of them and bring in foreigners if they continue to hold the country to ransom. After all, lawyers are far less paid but have never embarrassed themselves in this manner. Are lawyers not also professionals? Our Nigerian doctors should travel out and learn to stop over hyping themselves. Even ASUU is becoming envious of NMA striking pattern.
. U are definitely very remote from the struggle by doctors rather u are so shallow minded. The Government is just about 2 destroy the fabric of the health sector because of the personal interests of some groups .so what should doctors do? Siddon look? Besides you don't seem 2 have solution 2 this imbroglio. If the governmeny sacks them, what next? The last time lagos state government sacked all its doctor, what happened? Mtchewwwww

HealthRe: NMA Vs JOHESU Vs FG Vs Patients........ Why The Hatred For Doctors??? by thaqib(m): 4:47pm On Jul 14, 2014
DebateNigeria: I know this topic may not make FP because it is not against the medical doctors as only topics against doctors make FP. I have always been an anonymous visitor or guest here but had to join nairaland to post this topic.
It is really saddening to see how Nigerians regard their medical doctors. I have been following this saga on nairaland, Facebook, other social media and print media. I came into conclusion that Nigerians have misplaced priorities. We hate doctors so much and yet we roll out our drums in celebration each time our children graduate to become one. I have some friends who swore that since they could not study medicine, they will do everything in their powers to ensure their kids study medicine.
Why the so much hatred for doctors. I once had a sister who decided to go to a nurse at home to take her delivery, after this nurse tried all she could do, she referred her to a general hospital and I must say that the doctors where so professional about it, they did not want to lose the baby or the mother, my sister was so bad I thought she would not make it but for the doctors she survived, the baby survived too. It was the doctors who took her blood samples ran a test in the ward side lab brought out the test result in less than 5 mins and said she will need blood. These same doctors took the sample to the lab about 500 meters from the ward, went back to check that the blood was ready, wheeled her to the theatre, monitored her till she was awake. All of these happened mid night and the doctor was present again very early the next morning. I was forced to ask the doctor "oga when do you rest", he smiled and said "it's part of the training". I must say the input of other health professionals was minimal. I was amazed.
I am not justifying the doctors strike, I am not in support of any strike but a better understanding of the fight in the health sector is important for all. I often see people make bad comments about nurses. Though nurses are trained to offer care, I must say doctors I have met are still more caring than nurses. The day you or any of your relative is admitted in a public hospital you may understand what I am trying to say. They shout at patients and their relatives, they may not even wait an extra minute once their shift is over. But doctors are patient, they don't gossip unlike others who stay in the ward gossiping patients and their relatives.

Here is an article that was shared on Facebook and I feel nairaland could benefit from it. It may be bias because it is coming from a medical doctor but I feel it is the honest truth.

I appeal to our doctors to go back to work, patients are dying. We need you and we appreciate your effort.

This is also to announce my membership of nairaland. I shall engage in meaningful debate and will not entertain any form of insult as that is the reason I refused to join initially.
Nairaland is a great community and I have learnt a lot as a guest. I wish I will learn more as a member
. Unfortunately I am just seeing this. The stream of responses u have gotten will only buttress your initial position that doctors are seen as devil's incarnate by other healthcare workers all because in the scheme of affairs as it is now, they are considered the leader. As for the general populace, their positions are influenced largely by ignorance and partly by jealously( among the educated ones). I have read a few sincere positions by educated fellow(I won't forget the one by that engineer). But you know what, the government is the culprit promoting anarchy in the system by being unassertive and allowing itself 2 be coerced by an amorphous body called JOHESU. For me , the government should take the bull by the horn, dismiss everybody and issues fresh appointments atating the duties and career progression of each discipline. In that way, there would be no unneccessary agitations or accusations of unfairness in appointments . If other people thinks the 'oliver twist' of doctors are too much( by canvassing that order/ sanity must be maintained in the health sector as this is the summary of NMA 24 points agenda),the university is still opened for interested people who want 2 become doctors. I know a pharmacist who is now a professor of radiotherapy,a branch of medicine). Finally,a walk round the hospital will show who contributes most quota 2 patient's care, whether it is the nurse who works for 6 hours in a day and gets time off( or rather works for 12hour ,their night shift for week and then gets another one week off) or the pharmacist who never sees the patient, merely dispenses the drug. Perhaps it is the cleaner who cleans the theatre after a 12- hour surgery by the doctor. These are the issues....

Car TalkRe: What Is The Process Of Registering A Newly Purchased Vehicle In Lagos? by thaqib(m): 4:13pm On Sep 01, 2013
bravolad: That would be absolutely unnecessary and unwarranted. You will also be giving a wrong information about the vehicle in particular. Every vehicle has an engine number. However, where your vehicle engine number is hidden, the best way to register such a vehicle is to leave the engine number nil. I once registered a Toyota Camry 2001 model without the engine number and used the car for three (3) years. I never had a problem with the police. I am also a regular traveler to the east and we know how notorious the road from Abuja to the east or vice versa is. No police officer would disturb you because you can't trace the engine number. But you will have a greater problem if it is discovered at any point that you have a wrong engine number. Getting the engine number of some vehicles will require you to bring the entire engine down.

You can also confirm from people who use Toyota Camry 2001 model, majority of them do not register their cars with the engine number. My point therefore, is that you leave the engine number as nil. Even the VIO or road safety officer that would handle the registration for you will advise you to leave it blank.

I hope this helps.

Please, do not just fill any number as your engine no.
I have been looking for this post since. I nearly cause katakata for my engine looking for engine no. Its a 2000 camry. After looking at all d places car guru advised, I saw d same vin number there!

Car TalkRe: Please My Toyota Camry 2000 Cooling Fan Belt Does Not Move by thaqib(op): 10:55am On Aug 20, 2013
The cooling fan doesn't have to move only when the ac is switched on. Just as sienna has explained, the fan will automaticaly comes on when the engine temperature reaches the set temperature parameter for the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) to instruct the fan to start its cooling operation.

That is the way its designed to operate. Most people in Nigeria are so convinced that the fan should come on immediately the ignition is switched on but that's wrong.

Try this. Start your car engine and allow it time warm up and eventually get hot. You will notice that the fan will come on eventually and after a while, go off again. The cycle repeats itself continuosly until you either switch on the ac as that requires constant operation of the fan, or you switch off the engine.

There are enough threads on NL car talk section where this has been comprehensively explained.

Just leave it the way it is or else you may be in for serious consequences.

Siena: ^^^ You need to be more specific. Do you mean the fan itself doesn't turn when you turn on the ignition? Because the Toyota Camry runs an electric fan. It's not supposed to start running as soon as you switch on the ignition. The engine needs to be at operating temperature, in order for the fan to be triggered via the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor).

Don't let your "mechanic" convince you otherwise.
Siena, thanks. Just apprehensive. because it started moving later when d temp rose( I tink after I put on d a/c.
Chai , see ignorance...
Car TalkRe: Sachi Motorsport's Audi Cabriolet Project - V8 Content. by thaqib(m): 4:13pm On Aug 18, 2013
Siena: Hello guys!

I've just gotten hold of a '96 Cabrio 2,6 auto, which will form the basis of Sachi Motorsport's Cabrio project.

Now this wouldn't have been my choice, but it was free, so I honestly couldn't turn her down. She's Ming Blue with black leather, black mohair hood. She's been stood for 2 years, though she does run. The rear window's gone yellow and brittle with age, and literally fell out when I poked at it. Usual cabrio electric roof issues, but that's life.

Now I'm going to install a 6-speed manual trans, and replace the ageing 2,6 V6 12V 150 hp motor with either a 2,7T or 40V S6 motor. I would choose the 340 hp S6 motor over a 310 hp A6 version due to the ease of coding the S6/S8 ECU for manual use. A6/A8 ECU is a bit harder to work with.

I have access to a 2002 A6 3,0 Quattro, and to make the integration of a 2,7T or S6 motor neater, I'm going to use the entire wiring harness of the C5 A6 in the Cabrio. It'll also make the car OBDII compliant, as well as enable the use of either the '00 B5 dash, or that of the '02 C6 dash and cluster. Nice, easy, neat and OEM. I will also be able to install my RNS-E, and add future upgrades that would be tedious with the older B4-based, non-CAN system.

My issue is integrating the Cabriolet power hood harness with the C5 A6. It won't be a big deal, without wiring diagrams of the Audi Cabriolet's power hood control, it'll just take longer to complete than it should.

Pictures to follow!

Thanks guys!
