Sorry this update took longer than promised. Na Chelsea Vs Arsenal boring match cos am. Abeg chelsea fans, tell Abramovic to open a cement shop for Bakayoko and Morata o. Football is not just meant for those two guys. They miss chances more than women who misses her period during pregnancy. That being said... COUNTLESS is fastly approaching the end. Please guys, I want you to start telling me everything you've seen and noticed about the story so far. Be it, critisicm or acknowledgement or corrections. Please let it out. I won't drop the next update if I don't see your responses o. Please this is where I need you guys. Thanx. 113. COUNTLESS. Life of a millionaire? Nothing comes close to it. You know you are comfortably rich when 'how to eat, means to eat, or what to eat' have become a thing of the past in your life and 'when to eat' now becomes your occasional worries. New friends, and I mean high classed ones and not the 'shey I fit see 1k from you till Buhari returns to the country' types. No... I ain't talking about those ones. Am talking about friends of high levels that, at an ocassion, the drinks on your tables alone are worth more expensive than the annual budget of the whole of Lagos state....well you can throw your phone against the wall if you think thats an overrated statement. Either way, Darous Emmanuel, the first and last born of Shango is now a comfortable richman. *** "aiit dude. You will see the alert right away." Thats me ending the call of a radio presenter. He just called to notify me of the actual bill for the advertisement of my new company. 3months after the demise of Adedoyin, I sold off her companies which were then in my name and I used the new funds acquired to establish some car dealing companies both within the surburb of Abeokuta and its nearby cities. Just when you thought it would take a cold day in hell before Darousmart could care for other people's needs, disappointedly, he did something extra ordinary by opening a charity foundation for homeless kids and orphans. It was the event of one fateful day that instigated the idea of that Orphanage foundation which was named in the memory of the late Adedoyin. I was coming back from a Glo organised musical concert held at one 5-star hotel inside Banana Island there in Lagos. Where a lot of stars from the music industries were in attendance. People like Olamide Bado, Flavour and suprisingly Davido were all present. It was a great concert and I was exteremly thrilled to have been there with my friends to see those bleaching creams of the music industry. After saying pleasantry goodbyes with my friends after the end of the concert, I entered my blue Lexus-2018 model and headed straight to Abeokuta. Few distance remaining to cover before I got home, therein one popular sapon market, I reduced the speed of the car when I noticed some people surrounding a very young guy whose right cheeks was swollen and blood covering his battered face. Then, the curiousity application in me flew open by itself. I stopped the car and parked it safely beside the road. After locking the door firmly, I made a quick approach towards the scene. "chisos! Is that why they beat him so badly like this? Because he stole a seventy naira bread and one pure water to satisfy his hungry belly?" Those were my lamentations after one elderly woman has narrated everything that brought about the incident to me. While I was still standing there, A hefty man pulled the thief up and gave him some series of slapping before handing him to another person who repeated the same thing he did. The poor thief could only whimper and beg for mercy, but no, this baboons would have none of that. To them they have caught a thief and he must be dealt with. The more he begged, the more they feel the urge to beat him. 'Some nigerians are really stupid and cruel if you ask me or you don't ask me....cos of a mere bread and pure H2O, something he stole just to survive the hardship implemented on him by the ba*tard leaders we claimed to have? They were ready to end his life? When their leaders that are looting there resources on hourly basis are on the television, flashing them some stu*id dentitions? What an odd world! Not long ago, Sandra Jim Anababa, a friend of mine on facebook posted a very heartbreaking picture of a small boy of age 7, that was set ablaze by some people just because he stole a small quantity of garri to feed himself. The poor boy was killed bru...' "wetin dey delay Pascal and Opera na?" A loud voice from the crowd interrupted my thoughts. " I glanced around and my eyes collided with the eyes of the thief but he was now sitting on the floor. He was staring pitifully into my face. Apparently, he was sending a lot of messages to my heart with that abject stare. Seeing him in that sorry state triggered a lot of memories in my brain. I remembered vividly that I was once like him, when finding something to eat is equal to finding a virgin widow. Truth be told, people, specifically Nigerians are really suffering badly. To all the hustlers out there, I say continue, don't relent, persevere, endure more, pursue more. And one day, your pay day will come. Now, back to the story, I squinted at his face long enough for me to contemplate on what to do. Then the next thing I heard from the crowd concluded my thoughts for me. "Pascal, bring that petrol make we roast this thief na!" Someone among the angry mob cried out and seconds after he said that, I saw a guy coming towards the thief with a jerrycan of fuel in his hand. It was that action that brought out the full humanity in me. In one swift moment of instinct judgement, I thrusted my hands into my black Gucci jean trousers. I still had a few of the dollars I sprayed for some upcoming artist at the concert in my pockets. I was about to spray the dollars among the crowd to divert their attention before I suddenly began to second guess myself. The guy coming with the fuel was fast approaching and I quickly asked myself if what I was about to do is right...but when the guy with the fuel seems to be getting nearer to the thief than the reply I was expecting, I swung into action. You can guess what happens, when a crowd suddenly see dollars flying in the air. When I saw that even the idiot coming with the petrol has joined in the dollar-picking-task I threw at them, I marched fast towards the thief, pulled him up and I was about to start running with him when I heard a voice from behind me. "wetin you wan do? Where you wan carry am go?" I turned around swiftly to face the owner of that voice. It was the hefty guy that started the slapping session with the thief. 'a little revenge would do'. A voice told me from within. As a learned and trained boxer, I launched a straight punch to his face but he quickly dodged it aside but his side dodging was met with a fast jaw crunching cross from my left arm followed quickly was a heavy jab directed at his solar plexus from my right arm and that was what eventually sent him to the floor. "you see that Blue Lexus parked over there?" I asked the thief standing beside me while pointing to my car. He nodded his head and I quickly added. "if I first you reach there, you are on your own o." He didn't let me finish my statement before he used all the strenght left in him to get to the car just seconds after me. I opened the car and after he'd gotten in, I zoomed off. Inside the car, I contemplated on whether to take him to the police station or hospital. But after he told me about his plight and what led him to stealing, I had no choice than to conclude on the latter. Hours later, Ade, (the thief's name) and I were heading home from the clinic where he was treated. I took him to my house and gave him some cloths and 5thousand naira. I asked him to come back the following monday to my office at Panseke to resume work as an attendant at my company. 'if you're are not among the first eleven people that will be in heaven for what you did today, then na ojoro be that o.' An inner voice told me before I slept off on the night of that fateful day. *** I transferred the needed amount for the advertisement to the account of the radio presenter that just called me. I dropped the phone beside me on the dinning table and began to eat. My phone rang again and thinking it is the presenter calling back to confirm the sucessful transfer, I decided not to pick it. It rang again and again but after the fifth one, I washed of the wheat in my hand and picked the phone. It was an unsaved number. Thinking it might be a new customer that wants to do business with me, I quickly picked it and spoke softly in my usual way of communicating with a new customer. "hello...this is Darous Emmanuel. C.E.O of Darousmart Vehicles Nigeria Limited. How may I help you?" "really?" Replied by a hoarse voice. "thats so sweet of you." Followed again with a feminine laughter. "please who is this?" I asked curiously as I wasn't able to recognise the owner instantly. "guess which of your nemesis have come back?" The voice replied again but in a hoarse teasing tone. "please am not in the mood for silly pranks. Who am I talking with?" I blurted out frustratingly. But the reply was the same as the previous one. "if you are not ready to talk, then, am ending the call right away." I said and waited for the reply. "who could I be among your nemesis o? Darous.." That sounded hoarsely more. "Adedoyin? No, that means I'm dead...hmm, maybe Beatrice? But that would mean am calling from prison which am not....then who am I ooo...." She was silent for a sec but eventually continued with the hoarse disguised voice. "Can I be Chioma?...can I? If am Chioma, then that would mean am calling from Abeokuta, which I am presently, and now on my way to your mansion....YES!" She cried out in her normal voice and I instantly recognised her. "am CHIOMA! But am not your nemesis. Am infact the genesis of your wealth." She concluded with a chuckle. I released a deep sigh and spoke. "what devil are you planning now o...Chy...?" I asked with a tone that perfectly masked the worry in my voice. "am not planning anything....infact, am right now at your gate." "what!...how..." I was interrupted by the sound of the gatebell. "thats me. Be a gentleman and open this gate." She said. Reluctantly, I picked the remote controller of the gate and opened it. I watched from the dinning window as Chioma stepped inside the compound, glanced around and eventually settled her gaze on the entrance of the mansion with a mischievious grin that spelt; THE DEVIL IS HERE!. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all lovers and readers of COUNTLESS. I wish you all a very sucessful and fruitful year In Whatever you believe's name...(amen) 112. COUNTLESS As I sat down on the edge of the bed, contemplating on who to call, just like a coach whose team is losing and was on the sideline pondering on which player to bring in to the match that can get an equaliser for him. Morata or Lukaku?. Then snapping me out of my deep thoughts was the ringing of my phone. Hurriedly, I raised it to my face and after seeing the caller I.d to be Chioma, I quickly picked it and began raining all sorts of insults on her. "you bastard b!tch! Na Libya thunder go fire you for ruining my life!. You this heartless sonofabitch....no! daughterofabitch rather!. Tell me b!tch, how much is the devil really paying you for you to have instantly become his dedicated flag bearer? You this silly bastard daughter of a million fathers. You ruined my life! Chioma you hear that? You just ruined my life!." I thundered, acrimoniously on my feet. I waited for her response and it took a silent while before she spoke up. "eh! are you done?" She asked softly. "you must be mad for that statement....look here, If I ever see your treachery face again, I swear I'll use a table knife to stab your treachery face a thousand times that even the devil will have a hard time recognising you in hell...you this abandoned project of Lucifer!" I taunted angrily at her. "I take that as a NO." she said. "call me back when you've found your lost senses and ready for my help." Then the line went dead. I casted an exasperated glance at Adedoyin's lifeless body and began marching downstairs. I got to the sitting room and sat down on the sofa. I re-opened the thinking application of my brain and resumed my thinking again. I realise handling this situation with an angry approach won't extricate my predicament atall infact it might led to more entanglements of trouble. Wait, that b!tch said something like me needing her help. Gawd!....That devilish serpent!.... I dethered for a few seconds but later decided to call her back. Just to hear what she wants to say. "hey listen!...don't think for one second that its comfortable for me to call you back. So better speak up now." I said after she picked the call. "listen too. First of all, I want you to know that am presently untraceable. You can't see me and you can't find me unless I want you to. So if you're planning to play a silly game, then you''d be doing yourself...." She waited for my response but after getting only a hiss from me, she continued. "most importantly...tell me, are you calling with your senses intact or you're calling to show me how stupid you really are?" She voiced outrightly. "hmmm Chioma....you've grown some nerves abi?" I replied but not harshly. "yes I think so...but you know what?....you ferterlised my growing nerves with your stupidity Darous. I never meant it to be like this. But you absolutely don't know what I was going through when you met me at Lobot.....do you?...anyway thats a topic for another time..." "whats that suppose to mean...?" "it means you don't associate yourself with a wounded woman..." "am I suppose to be scared of you?...is that what you think?" I ended with a scoff. "lets leave that to another day....lets first plan on how to deal with whats at hand." "Plan? I thought you already have a plan...isn't that the reason why you called?...Or are you calling to know if I'll be picking your call in the police cell?...well since you've got no important thing to say, effective immediately, this conversation is over." I stated and ended the call angrily. But after two minutes, she called back. "you know what your problem is?. You dey always behave like pikin...anyway, have got a plan. But it will only work if you are ready." "you make it sound as if I have a choice." "listen, here's the plan....first of all, you will take her phone, get her doctor's number from it, dial it on your own phone and inform the doctor that his attention is needed right away.. Are you listening?..." She asked. "um..yes...yes...but wait, why should I use my phone?" "because using her own phone will ruin the plan dummy..." "so?...after that?" "once the doctor arrives, just tell them that she was speaking to someone on phone when she suddenly screamed out loud and the next thing you know was that she fell to the ground and before you could get to her, you found her dead....is that clear?" "hmmm....are you sure they will believe me?" I asked sceptically. "you have to make them believe you, otherwise, you'd be digging your own grave..." "but what if they carry out a test on her and found out that we are somehow involved?" "no...they can't. The drugs I used on her is already out of her system. I expect you to handle it maturely.....can you?" She asked. "well, I'll try. Since you got me into this, I guess I have to be brave now....but just so we are clear on this, I never asked you for this kind of help...so incase you're expecting me to thank you, am sorry to say I'd happily walk straight to hell than thank you for this...." "save your strenght for the drama ahead of you Darous. Trust me you going to need it..call me once the coast is clear." She said and I was about to end the call when I suddenly remembered something and spoke again. "wait.." "what again?" She asked slightly furious. "what about her lawyer?...what if..." "don't worry yourself too much" She said calmly. "how can you say that? Do you think her lawyer will just sit and do nothing with everything thats happening?" I stressed with a voice of anxiety. "don't worry yourself Darous....Have got that ashawo that called himself her lawyer wrapped so tight inside my fingers...believe me when I say he won't be a problem... So all you need do is just to be at your calm self whenever you see him....you hear?" "I still can't believe this." I lamented sceptically. "do you want some proof?" She asked after obviously sensing the scepticism in my reply. "is there any?" I asked. "I will suprise you....just listen and don't say anything." After that, I heard some dialing tone, followed moments later was the voice of a man I later recognised as the Lawyer. I heard loud and clear how Chioma was threatening him that she will release some incriminating pictures of the lawyer to the internet and his wife. The lawyer sounded so afraid and audibly fretting as he had no choice than to beg Chioma not to do what she said. He then promised to do all her biddings. Then Chioma let out a victory chuckle and the voice of the lawyer went dead. I couldn't help but wonder how she managed to do all what I just heard. That girl is the perfect personification of everything thats evil. "is that proof enough?" Chioma asked cutting into my thoughts. "I can't say...but tell me, how did you manage to get that strict lawyer under your control?"I asked curiously and she released a deep sigh before she responded. "I started by making some research on him and you don't know how happy I was when I found out that he frequent one of our hotels beside Obasanjo presidential library. Fortunately, I have a friend whom I confided in and she was the one that helped me in doing the same thing I did to you to him." At that point, I hmmed and she let out a sinister laughter before she eventually continued. "I then visited him the following day at his office and after showing him the pics, I threatened to send them to his wife and the chief judge of the state....and realising that would be the end of his 33years career and 30years of marriage, he had no choice than to agree to my request....so you see, thats piece of cake." I heard some chuckling sound from her and I wondered what have gotten myself into. I released a long exasperated sigh and ended the call before she could say anything again. My vision colided with the wall clock and I hurried my steps back to upstairs and got to my room where Adedoyin's body was still lying. I felt a sense of guilt as I stared at her. My body tensed up and I instantly hated myself for letting myself be used like an ingredient in killing her. Doing the sign of the cross three times, I proceeded towards her body slowly and knelt beside her and began to soliloquize and reminise. Her words at the dinning table, on the day I first stepped into her house after she bailed me out of the police station, came back to me like a flash. "I really want to help you, Darous, because am already having some kind of feelings for you, and I want to help you get to the top. Thats where you surely belong dear." Remembering those words and the irony of the circumstances surrounding its fufilment triggered the gun of tears in my eyes. Feeling sincerely remorseful, I began to talk to her lying corpse. Please don't let me bother you with the things I said, because me gan self no understand most of the things I said to her. Or how can I be telling her that I'd do anything to make her come back to life, even if it means trading my life for hers. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I got up after some minutes and prepared myself to become the latest nollywood actor as I picked her phone and dialed her doctors number on my phone. **** SIX MONTHS LATER. I was now a millionaire. Apparently, Chioma has gotten everything well planned out before she acted. Give it to her, that girl really knows all the shortcuts that leads to hell. Unavoidably, some members of Adedoyin's family planned to strip me of everything that belonged to their daughter and sister but all thanks to Chioma's puppet, the lawyer, he returned every weapon they fashioned against me brilliantly as if his life depended on it. But subtly, it does. Unselfishly, I released some of the deceased properties to them and that signalled the end of their hatred towards me. Unthinkably, I haven't seen Chioma since that day of Adedoyin's death. After trying relentlessly to reach her, I concluded on my mind that maybe she has decided to stay away from me. But, Unexpectedly, the devilish b!tch struck when I least expected her to. TBC. |
I feel so honored to be among the first to comment on this thread. All of my hard work and dedication for the past 6years has finally paid off. Getting the top comment has been my dream for many years. I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way, those who have mentored me on how to achieve this by being extra vigilant and observative. First and foremost i would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity, i would also like to thank my parents and primary school classmates. I want to thank my friends for being there for me always. I would also like to thank my pet fish for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next i would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees to the top because that gives me inspiration that i needed to get through this day. This is a special moment in my life and i would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that has helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that i will never forget. I just remembered a few other people i would like to thank; the entire Nairaland village, the internet for letting me go on Nairaland with borrowed megabite, my house because without it i would be homeless. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first to comment on this sort of post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day.
