35. COUNTLESS The short message sunk into my shangoic brain instantly. I was frozen to the spot. I was fidgeting with trembling hands for more than 5mins I regained my composure, and sat down on the bed after locking the door and dropping my bag on the floor. I decided to call Jide, maybe that smoked brain can render some help. I reached for my phone inside my pockets. I unlocked it and saw a new SMS alert from Gtbank. Adedoyin have deposited 100k into my account. I smiled and dialed Jide's number. He picked at the second ring "hello, shango boy, thank..." he was saying before i cut in "alaye, trouble don dey o. As i dey now, i fit die anytime now." "chill ogbeni, die ke? wetin happen?"he asked in a deeply concerned tone and i narrated the whole saga to him. I can hear him heaved a deep sigh before he spoke up. "ah...shango boy, dis one serious o! Make i no lie you, you don enter am for real" "am aware of that Jide, but i no know wetin i wan do now na? Na why i call u be dat...i must not die o...hun..if i die, Nija go suffer o". "you no fit die jare, dey just wan scare you ni...cos i know that, if they mean business, them go don come meet you for house" "but I don't even know why everything turn out like dis! Jendo...help me na, i beg of you!" i said pleadingly. "hmmm...you know what will happen now? I go try call damibiz and damibobo. Am sure they will help you. I go call you back later, you hear?" "ok...no problem.. But Jendo, where should i stay for the meantime, am sure they will soon find me come here if i don't leave now". "u be born idiot...go stay for your papa shrine na, idiot...if na me, i swear, i go stay for that house and nothing go happen!" "says the glorified fool that ran away because of cultist battle...na u mumu pas" i retorted sarcastically "you no fit compare that one with this your own na! That one na gun battle! No be threat! Idiot" "i no even know why i call u gan self. My grandma would have provided a better solution assuming your papa no steal her phone" "you dey try talk say ur grandma get sense pas me be that? Eh? Na thunder go fire you!" "and you too idiot...abeg comot for here!"i terminated the call I can't say my interraction with Jide was fruitful or not. But I need to leave immediately. I reloaded my bag. I head for the door and headed outside after locking it. I still don't know where to go. The Adedoyin duplex is not an option right now. She already left with the keys I decided to call Chioma. "hey Darous, how you doi...." "save that for later please, i need your help..." "ok...what kind of help?" "can i stay at your place for a few days? Please, i need to move out of here now!" "oh...Darous, as much as i would have really love to have you here, i can't...am sorry Darous" She said "but why? Please, i promise not to have sex with you..if you want, you can even padlock my dck..if thats what you are scared of Chy" "com'on, dont be like that, you know i would never complain of you sexing me..." "then why?" i interrupted. "my mum just arrived yesterday. She use to pay me a 7days visit every month, and i haven't introduce you to her yet. Thats why... Please am sorry." "hmmmm...its alright....thanks anyway..." "please be safe for me please" "don't worry about me...i will be ok...bye". I ended the call I am totally stranded with no idea of where to go. I took a bike to Funaab and withdraw 30k to join the 64k remaining inside my wallet The bike dropped me at the junction of my area. I was still thinking of where to go when I saw 4 hefty guys having some jovialistic discussion I approached the guys and started chatting with them. I took them to a bar and bought two crates of Goldbergs for them. When they were through with the last crate, i told them everything about the threat and the robbers. I requested for their help and their leader assured me that, they will protect me and my konji. I gave them 30k for accepting to help me I left their midst after collecting their numbers and headed out to the street. A call entered my phone, i checked the caller I.D and it was Joke. I hurriedly picked it. After the pleasantries and accusations of not caring about her, i told her about my predicament She said i should come to their house and speak with her mum. She assured me that her mum will let me stay with them. **** I was led into the living room by Nike and was met with the sitting sight of Ajoke and a very alluring woman that was reading a fashion magazine. Seriously, beauty runs in this family. "mum, this is Darous...the guy i was telling you about" Joke smiled as she introduced me to her mum Their mum looked up and stared at my face for some seconds. She removed her glasses and rose up. She came closer to me and glared at my face for some seconds before she finally spoke up. I was already starting to feel uneasy with her glares "I think have seen your face before..i can't remember clearly when and where..!" She declared TBC |

Barely 19 years after the demisecc:lalasticlala and mynd44 |
Source https://newtelegraphonline.com/news/no-going-back-magus-rejection-senators/ cc:lalasticlala and mynd44 |
The Senate will not rescind its
decision to reject the
appointment of the Acting
Chairman of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, to
substantive capacity, New
Telegraph investigations have
revealed.
This is, however,
notwithstanding its official
statement to welcome President
Muhammadu Buhari’s peace
initiative on the deteriorating
Executive/ Legislative face-off.
Most of the senators, who spoke
to our correspondent on the
condition of anonymity, for
obvious implications, said that
the move by the President to
broker peace and end the
current executive-legislative
acrimony was welcome.
Ironically, they reasoned that
though such move was a
responsible initiative, the upper
chamber would, by no means, be
persuaded by anybody to
reverse its position on Magu.
The lawmakers said that they
would be surprised and
embarrassed too, if President
Buhari should attempt to
convince the Senate to confirm
Magu, in total disregard to the
report of the Department of
State Services (DSS), which
indicted the EFCC acting
chairman of corruption.
According to the lawmakers,
Buhari’s insistence that Magu
must be confirmed to head the
anti- graft agency, despite the
unfavourable security report on
him, is antithetical to his
(Buhari’s) professed fight
against corruption in the
country. One of the senators
said: “The decision of Mr.
President to broker peace
between the Senate and the
executive is a welcome
development. It shows that he is
aware and also worried that the
current bickering between the
two arms of the same
government is not healthy for
our democracy.
“As a senator, I am also seriously
concerned about the recurring
quarrels between the National
Assembly and the Executive
because it is negatively affecting
governance; it is hampering
development. However, as
important as the peace initiative
is, it cannot be to persuade us to
confirm Magu because there is a
pending security report against
him.” Another senator also told
New Telegraph that: “The
President did well by setting up
a committee to reconcile the
Senate and the executive, but
that reconciliation effort cannot
make the Senate to change its
position on Ibrahim Magu
because we cannot sweep the
DSS’ report under the carpet. ”
In fact, I am of the opinion that
President Buhari is setting a bad
precedence in this country by
not removing Magu from that
office, three weeks after the
Senate rejected his nomination
for the second time. Nigerians all
know that Senate did not reject
him based on its own report or
observation, but based on
security report from the DSS.”
Also speaking, one of the
senators noted that by setting
up a reconciliation committee to
bring the two arms
harmoniously together,
President Buhari had
demonstrated that he was
concerned about the adverse
effects of continuous bickering
between the Senate and the
executive.
The lawmaker, however,
frowned that the President had
not thought it necessary to take
decisive actions on critical
resolutions of the Senate on
some public officers serving in
the executive arm. He stated that
his silence on Magu and Col.
Hameed Ali (rtd), the Comptroller
of Nigerian Customs Service
(NCS), was encouraging them to
disregard and disrespect the
apex chamber.
“Peace is good and every sane
human being wants to have
peace. However, if President
Buhari really wants to have
peace with the parliament, let
him call his appointees to order
and also comply with the
resolutions of the Senate.
“I am telling you this, and I want
you to take this seriously, if it is
about Magu, that initiative will
not yield fruit. In fact, his
removal of Magu from that office
will mark the beginning of any
peace initiative; else, we will
continue to deceive ourselves,
and there won’t be any peace at
the end of the day.
The Customs boss also needs to
be cautioned and disciplined by
the President for being rude to
the Senate.” One of the senators
who spoke with our
correspondent on the condition
of anonymity, described as
bizarre, the President’s
insistence on Magu, in spite of
the indictment from the DSS.
“I can best describe what is
happening as bizarre because
the President gave the
impression that he was going to
fight corruption and rout it out
from our system. But
unfortunately, his body language
speaks to the contrary. For God’s
sake, what is so unique and
special about Magu? I am saying
this because we have also heard
that the socalled peace initiative
was targeted at persuading the
Senate to confirm Magu.
“I wish him luck in whatever he
is doing to bring the two arms
of government together because
it will enhance good governance
and rapid development in the
country, which is why we are in
government. But if it is to apply
diplomacy and get Senate to
confirm Ibrahim Magu, that will
be a great miracle if it happens
because I will liken it to raising
the dead from grave,” the
lawmaker said.
Meanwhile, senators have
reacted to the call by Muslim
Rights Concerns (MURIC), in
which it urged President Buhari
to shut down the Senate before
the Chamber could shut down
the people, accusing the apex
assembly of sliding into
authoritarian dictatorship.
Senator Yele Omogunwa (APC,
Ondo South) reminded the
group that Nigeria is running a
democratic system that is
anchored on separation of
powers, which provides for
checks and balances, stressing
that no arm has the
constitutional power to shut
down another arm. “Have you
forgotten that there is
separation of powers for checks
and balances?
Their call is an indication that
they do not understand the
meaning of democracy. The
framers of the constitution are
wise enough not to allow for
what they are calling for,” he
said. Similarly, Senator Enyinnaya
Abaribe (PDP, Abia South)
pointed out that such call was
borne out of ignorance, because
it is undemocratic and
unconstitutional for the
President to contemplate
shutting down any arm of
government. “Anyone making
such call is unaware that we are
running a constitutional
democracy. No arm of
government can shut down
another arm of government,”
Abaribe told New Telegraph. |

Cc:Lalasticlala and mynd44. Source https://newtelegraphonline.com/news/unmask-treasury-looters-know-kalu-tells-us-uk/ |
The former governor of Abia
State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has urged
the United States, United
Kingdom and German
governments to expose the real
treasury looters in Nigeria whom
he said are known by the super
powers.
He has also called on the Federal
Government to institute a
process where famous auditing
firms will audit all public office
holders to ascertain their source
of wealth.
The Forbes billionaire made the
remarks Sunday in the United
States while delivering a speech
on Democratic process in
African Countries at the War
College, Washington DC.
Kalu, whose speech cut across
many issues affecting Nigeria,
lamented many abnormalities in
Nigeria.
According to him: “US,UK an
Germany know those who have
stashed millions of dollars,
transferred directly from Nigeria
to western countries without
working for it.”
The former governor said the
looters acquired the wealth with
no trace of evidence of business
transactions, services or
contracts.
He also said Nigeria need three
basic things he named as justice,
obedience to the rule of law and
accountability to move forward.
The former presidential
candidate described Nigeria as
an interesting country buried in
tribalism and religion, adding
that in Nigeria, people do not
see good in those who wish the
country well.
According to him: “People see
no good in other people’s job.
The leaders and the governed
have become so greedy that they
forget the ethics of a nation. A
nation is supposed to be a
committed area that must have
the interest of the citizens as
priority. It is only in Nigeria, that
a form is clearly specified to
identify tribe, state, local
government and religion. That
means that the government of
Nigeria since 1960 have been in
support of tribalism. There is no
country in Nigeria that wants to
move forward and still have such
specifications in a form.
Corruption is the greatest
problem in Nigeria. Those past
leaders who claimed to be
fighting corruption were only
accumulating wealth. Most of
them came to be leaders of our
community with only N20,000
and below, and they make no
pretence in showing their
wealth and affluence in their
different communities.
“I was governor for eight years.
And in that eight years, I never
knew somebody can take public
fund as his own. I never knew
somebody aside security vote
can take away people’s money.
People who had nothing came
into office and turned to multi
billionaires and nobody asks
questions about how the money
was made. I call on the
government to restore a process
whereby the KPMG, PWC, Deloitte
and others be given the
opportunity to audit all our past
leaders. You can not just make
someone a governor today and
the next thing, he buys a house
in Victoria Island without stating
how he got the money. Likewise
a minister and he is already
buying houses in Maitama or
Asokoro. Sometimes, possibly
someone you had known
before,” he said
Speaking further, Kalu recalled
that “among the people who
supported political movement in
Nigeria in 1998, few of us are
being tried. I had mentioned this
in most forums I have been. Our
former President, Obasanjo
wrote to your President, George
Bush Jnr, requesting that I
should be arrested in United
States. But your President after
investigation said no. They
equally wrote to the British
prime minister, but he disagreed
after investigation. But I am
being tried in Nigeria for a law I
do not know where it comes
from. But I cannot dwell on this
since it’s in a court of competent
jurisdiction.
“Last time I spoke in Washington
DC during a dinner, I repeated
the same thing. Nigeria is a
beautiful country where given
the appropriate rule of law; if
everyone is made to obey the
rule of the land and respect the
law; if all our people are made to
subject themselves to the laws of
the land, Nigeria will be a
beautiful place to live.”
Kalu’s visit to the War College in
Washington DC would be the
third time he will be visiting the
college in three years.
The former governor while
recounting his relationship with
the Institute told the audience
that the college during his eight
years reign as Abia State
governor had sent a 50-man
delegation to the state during
their visit to Nigeria. He
expressed his appreciation to
the college which according to
him, has always granted him
permission to use the Institute
for research whenever he is in
Washington DC.
Speaking on the Nigerian
economy and the orientation of
the leaders and the led, the
former governor said: “We need
people who will see Nigeria as
Nigeria. People who will not
attach any religious or tribal
sentiments about the country.
We need people that will call a
spade a spade. Last week, I
urged President Muhammadu
Buhari to tackle the economy the
way he tackled Boko Haram. In
all honesty and being factual, I
still suggest that President
Buhari as a matter of urgency
should declare an economic
emergency. The economy is in
very bad shape and the citizens
are not happy,
“What we also need Nigerians to
do is to come out and support
civil democracy. Civil democracy
is the only way interests of
others can be protected. People
blame politicians and everybody
but themselves. They do not
blame those who rig the
elections to put illegitimate and
unfit leaders in power. Leaders
who do not think well about our
society; leaders who think that
the best way of living is to steal
public funds. Those who think
that the only thing they are
elected for is to make themselves
comfortable,” he said.
Kalu also appealed to the staff,
the diplomats and senior military
officers present at the occasion
to urge the US government to
assist Nigeria in fishing out
those that have stolen the
Nigerian common wealth.
“I am sure they know them. The
government of the United States
and Britain know those that
have stolen our money. Why hid
them? When ex President
Obasanjo wrote to the British
government telling them that I
stole money to buy a house in
London. They investigated and
found out that I bought it in
1991 and that is the only house I
have in Britain,” he recalled. |
