Make we leave am for them. They say it is their cultural heritage. That is corrugated iron sheets! I don't know how "corrugated iron sheets" became the cultural symbol of a typical subsaharan African society. I mean, we did not invent that thing, neither do we even have any indigenous company producing that. .

One was giving me an example with Venice the other day; "Its the heritage of our ancestors, bla bla bla.., can't you see the old buildings in Venice? It is the same with ibadan"!!! Abasi mbok! I just don't want to talk. All i know is that at the core of cultural stagnation is a society vigorously waging a relentless jihad against change.
That brown roof area is synonymous to ur village. When u say u r going to village, Ibadan man will say I'm going to family compound. Ppl living there now are aged and less privileged.

The FG should consolidate this by completely banning importation of petroleum products. This, I think would further ease the pressure on our limited Dollar, and in return strengthen Naira.
Importation of this products and other producible indeginnous commodities should be banned.
I agree with u but putting ban on importation of these products will give Dangote the change to increase price at will. Importation should continue, nobody should stop it except price/competition
If Dangote can sell at a lower price, important death will be natural and the marketers will be waiting for the time they can make profit by importing pet product with that Dangote will be cautious
Another thing is the quantity. Can Dangote current production meet local demand

OkCornel:
Caveat: until NNPC is consistently supplies Dangote refinery crude oil at a fixed naira price, it’s too early to sell off your dollars.

If NNPC screws up the crude oil supply, Dangote will have no option than to source for forex to import crude oil, and you know what that means for the naira.

Verdict: Wait till the government consistently supplies Dangote refinery crude oil for the next few months.
Dangote won't need to source for forex he would be earning Dollar by exporting his products

TravelJapa: UK Suspended £38,700 Wage Threshold For Family Visa by thedio(op): 5:11pm On Aug 02, 2024
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has revealed that the UK government’s plan to raise the family visa threshold from £29,000 to £38,700 has been put on hold.

This policy, initially set to take effect in 2025, was introduced earlier this year by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as part of efforts to address record immigration figures. The new administration has decided to delay the implementation of the proposed increase until a comprehensive review of the family visa policy is conducted by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC).
Until the review is completed, the current threshold of £29,000 will remain in place.

Cooper confirmed that no further adjustments to the policy will occur until the independent review is completed.

The government has tasked MAC with evaluating the impact of restricting migrant workers from bringing family members to the UK and the implications of increasing wage thresholds.

The new government, under Cooper’s direction, plans to reassess its approach to legal migration. The objective is to enhance the skills of the local workforce before turning to foreign recruitment. Cooper criticized the recent rise in legal migration levels, citing it as indicative of failures in addressing labor market shortages. Non-EU long-term migration surged from 277,000 in the year to December 2022 to 423,000 in the year to December 2023.

“This is why we are setting out a different approach – one that links migration policy and visa controls to skills and labor market policies – so immigration is not used as an alternative to training or tackling workforce problems here at home,” Cooper stated.

If his product is cheaper, importation will automatically stop

Eriokanmi:
Monopoly, how? What monopoly is dangote enjoying as cement manufacturer? Rabiu, ibeto, wapco also produce cement. Stallion and Co also bag salt and sugar so, where is the Monopoly you people are talking about? I doubt you people know the meaning.

Dangote has said he enjoyed no benefit from the FG on his refinery, even the lamg he built it on wasn't freely given. He paid 100musd to get it. He's paying back the loan he took from them. There are modular refineries already in operation before his own started and more are still going to be completed soon. Rabiu too is building his own refinery. If you have the money today, you too can apply for a licence to own one.

So, there's nothing like Monopoly in this. Those who once said dangote would lose and his business would crumble cos of the refinery are now envying him. They're now frustrating him. Some even said petrol will stop selling world wide soon and he will close shop back then. How many electric cars do we have in the world today? The best alternative still remains PMS in cost and efficiency. Dangote being a businessman can always produce aviation fuel and diesel and still do away with petrol, if pull comes to shove. You guys shield behave intelligently naw.
Guess what will happen if Dangote stop cement production for two days......the fact is Dangote hate competition,he dominate every business of his interest and dictate the market. He use govt might to distabilise or kill his competitor.

Why do u think Dangote is talking Soo much in recent time......He met his boss in the oil industry and he does not av the govt support to fight them, now he need masses and media to get Mr president attention. That man is not fighting for u and I but power to overthrow the oil cabal.

He said he enjoyed no FG benefits in his refinery and u believe him. Yes he may not enjoy the current govt support how about the previous govt besides it's not govt itself but ppl in govt. The power that be .......ask BUA

Dangote is use to monopoly, why did he run away from flour....that man hate competition. He should face his business, give us petrol at a cheaper price and see if anyone would import and run at loss

Nazgul:
So technically what NNPC is saying is that even if dangote refinery start refining fuel, they'll still be importing it. Thus leading to a constant increase in the price.
If they stop importation Dangote will create artificial scarcity and increase the price at will. The same thing he is doing on cement industry.
Dangote can only stop importation by reducing the price of his product

CultureEXCLUSIVE: Makinde Moves To Stop Ladoja From Becoming Olubadan by thedio(op): 3:09pm On Jul 15, 2024
OYOINSIGHT.COM can authoritatively report that vengeful Governor Seyi Makinde has bared his fangs in a major move aimed solely at stopping a former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief (Sen) Rashidi Ladoja, from ascending the Olubadan throne whenever God says it will be his turn.
Ladoja is currently the most senior High Chief in the Otun Olubadan Line whose turn it is to mount the stool after Oba Owolabi Olakulehin who was coronated yesterday.
He is consequently the next-in-line to the throne.

Makinde, OYOINSIGHT.COM gathered, made the move as a sort of revenge against Ladoja who did not support the governor’s re-election bid in 2023.
Makinde had caused what has been described as a surreptitious amendment to be made to the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration by the House of Assembly.

The Declaration is a documentation of the custom of Ibadan people and it spells out ascension to the Olubadan throne.

Section 4 of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration states that, “The person who may be proposed as candidate by the Line whose turn it is to fill a vacancy in the office of the Olubadan shall be the most Senior (High) Chief in that Line.
But in Section 4 of the already gazetted amendment to the law christened the New Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, the phrase “the most Senior (High) Chief in that Line” has been replaced with “the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in that Line.”

“The person who may be proposed as candidate by the Line whose turn it is to fill a vacancy in the office of the Olubadan shall be the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in that Line…

It will be recalled that Ladoja is the only High Chief among the recognised kingmakers of Ibadanland who refused to wear beaded crown on account of it being illegal and strange for a person who set out to be an Olubadan to be given a different crown along the line.
Many of those who graced the coronation of Oba Olakulehin yesterday chastised Makinde for choosing the joyful occasion to unveil the punitive law targeted at Ladoja.

It was gathered that dignitaries who attended the ceremony had to wait for about two hours for the programme pamphlets to be brought to the historic Mapo Hill, venue of the ceremony.

The governor, it was learnt, instructed the planning committee for the ceremony to ensure the gazette is inserted in every pamphlet to send the message to Ladoja and his supporters.

Sections 1 to 4 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law do not donate the power to amend the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration to either Governor Makinde or the State Assembly.

Investigation also reveals that it is unconstitutional to make law targeted at an individual as Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) only empowers the House of Assembly of a State to “make laws for the peace, order and good government of the state or any part thereof…”

It was gathered that the recent minor cabinet reshuffling by Makinde was not in connection with the issues around installation of Olakulehin as Olubadan.

The governor was said to have allegedly removed Segun Olayiwola as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters for his refusal to lash out at Ladoja in the government response to Ladoja querying the delay in the coronation of Olakulehin as Olubadan.

It could not be ascertained if Ladoja, who is aware of the plot against him by Makinde, is going to court to test the validity of the new Declaration.

Sources say the former governor will go to court, although Makinde has also prepared to meet Ladoja “Pound for Pound and court for court.
