Well, believe it or not, the most common warning about sin in Scripture does not deal only with lying, gossip, adultery, stealing, or murder. The most common sin in all of Scripture that we’re told to avoid, reject, and move away from is idolatry.

Idolatry looks completely different today from what it once was. Whereas there was a time when idols were inanimate figures and statues, today they can come in various forms. Idolatry is an issue of the heart and can thus only be broken by a transformation of the heart.

Everything that is not of God raises itself up against God, even in the life of a Christian. So we constantly have idol pop-ups in our lives. We have to cast them down, but they will be there as long as we live here on earth.

Idols are anything that takes God's place in giving us fulfillment, satisfaction, security or significance. Many of the things that people have idolized -- both past and present -- are not necessarily bad things, but good things that take bad positions on our priority tree.

We are taught by the Bible to always put God first in our hearts. Colossians 3:5 says, "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."

Here are five modern-day things that we find it hard to admit are actually taking over our lives.

Work

Many people look to work for a sense of significance and security. While there is nothing wrong with work, it can be dangerous when it drives our decision-making to the point of completely ignoring God's ways and desires, or we put it before things that are equally or more deserving of our time.

Success

God wants us to be successful, but He does not desire success to take His place in our hearts. When we pursue success outside of God's will, we will find no satisfaction, but when we choose to surrender to God and His ways, Joshua 1:8 promises that we "...will be prosperous and successful." It's particularly easy to make success an idol when we follow other people's definitions, rather than God's.

Phones

Phones, tablets or whatever shiny piece of kit you carry around with you and can't stop checking every five minutes. If you're giving your electronic device more time and attention than your God and loved ones, something's wrong. You need to check your life again.

In the age of Facebook and Instagram, we can be obsessed with projecting the image of the perfect life, perfect relationship, perfect kids, perfect holidays, perfect friendship group...Just choose your filter and in one click, your life can look like everybody else's dream come true. But the Christian faith is about the joy found in God, more than in ourselves or the things of this world. Let's make sure we're projecting this image to others more than anything else. In amongst all those pictures of yourself and all the great things in your life, are there any pictures of your church or anything that would speak to the world of your faith in God?

Materialism

This is a prevalent problem most especially with younger generations with all the peer pressure. But that's not to say that older generations are free from it, as today's consumerism - not to mention billion-dollar advertising industry - drives us to believe that we need certain objects, possessions and substances to feel happy and content. And with internet shopping and today's global market, there's no end to the things we could buy. Now more than ever we need that fruit of the Spirit, self-control.

Sex

Although sex was designed and created by God, man has maligned and distorted its value and purpose. We can be easily driven by the flesh instead of the word of God, especially in an age when nudity is celebrated over modesty, sexual exploits are boasted over, and our visual culture is awash with provocative images. In this day and age, sex has become an idol that drives us to make small and big decisions that will lead us away from Christ if we're not careful.

Money

Ok so it's not exactly a modern-day temptation only, but the lesson remains the same. There is much value in money, but it is not the most valuable thing. That's why Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."

The biggest mistake when it comes to spotting idolatry is thinking that we cannot idolize good things. In fact, everything that man idolizes is something that is perceived to be good

The truth is; the prophet might be correct as at the time of prophesy. But, God has the final say. It is very possible that he wouldn't have done well academically, if he had accepted it hook, line and sinker. The lesson is; with the violence of faith, you can change every negative destiny or agenda over your life. "For with God, NOTHING shall be impossible"; Luke 1:37!

I have come te realise no matter how hard you try to please some ladies, nothing can ever stop them from cheating on you. It will be better if a guy can identify these bad traits as well as how best to deal with such ladies whether to terminate the relationship abruptly or cope with it.

I will be opening our eyes with this write-up so that we will be familiar to these habits

1. She becomes your enemy when you are broke

Life is not a bed of roses, therefore, everyday cannot be lived like a christmas day but some ladies don't even care. All they want is money coming out of your pocket each time they are in need, and failure to do so makes her becomes your enemy. If a lady starts nagging and threatening to dump you because you didn't fulfil your monetary promise, just know that there's probability that she will be cheating on you in marriage in a bid to get that which she desires.

2. She flirts with several guys

A flirt will always be a flirt anytime any day. Don't ever think marriage can change a lady that flirts except God delivers her from the act. Some of them flirt with several guys and will deem it right saying she only flirts with them and doesn't allow them get under her skirt. A lady with this ideology will no doubt be promiscuous when married.

3. She is not sexually satisfied with you

Just when you're bleeping a lady and she reading a newspaper or picks her phone and start replying her mentions on nairaland :O , just know that you never find wife at all oooo.. To worsen the case, if the guy's joystick is as small as that of Tosyne2much and inexperienced in several sex positions like Lalasticlala, she will definitely go to Kinglekan to satisfy herself. Such a lady is very risky to marry.

4. She accepts ridiculous money and gifts from guys

I don't know why some ladies have no standard that they can beg for ridiculous things from guys.. This habit only portrays how cheap these categories of ladies are, and I can't but pity any guy that falls in their trap. Even if a dude that marries them is as righteous as Jesus Christ they will still cheat on him.

5. She receives calls every now and then

When you're with a lady and her phone keeps ringing every 5mins it's better you have a heart to heart talk with her otherwise, you might end up with a miserable marriage life.. That is the way it will it will continue when married. That was the reason why Toyin Aimakhu's husband dumped her when he could no longer cope with such habit.

6. She is too secretive

When a lady is unnecessarily being secretive with a questionable character, then something is up her sleeves. It will be a big risk to marry such a lady otherwise you may have yourself to blame.

7. Her yansh no dey sit down for one place

Just when a lady is always found everywhere, bro you need to think twice before making that lifetime choice. She no dey use ear hear club house, pepper soup joint, birthday party and the likes.

8. She's very happy to have various toasters

Guys, when a lady is very elated and prides herself based on the number of chairmen stalking her, then there's high tendency for her to cheat in marriage.. When issues arise some of them will even be threatening you with break up and that they are only managing you cos they've got better guys toasting them.

I quite agree with everything stated here except number one.

An adage says what an elder sees while sitting down, the young ones might not see even if they mount on something..

What will seem to forget is that..when u marry someone, u dont marry only he or she.. You marry her beliefs, you marry her customs, rituals and every thing associated with her including the inlaws.

You may say you and your spouse love eachother regardless of tribe or customs but what about the inlaws. What of when they come and say ... This is the way its done in our tribe and we will do it as such.

You and the wife may understand each other but the family members nko.

This is what happens when one of the couple dies, and the other is made to go through inhumane treatment..what happens if your spouse tribe insists that every first son must get an incision or die according to their customs.

It is paramount to be careful concerning not the tribe of the spouse but the customs and secret traditions of the spouse as u are not only safeguarding your marriage but that of your life and future generation.

Remember a man can be converted from a religion but it is rare if not impossible for one to relinquish his tradition beliefs, etnics and custom.

The funny thing is tat ladies of today crave for "Love, Care and Attention" with Faithfulness from the man as an icing on the cake. Moreover, they don't want a struggling man because they want a life of luxury!

Now here is the problem....A man who can afford to give a woman all the luxury she needs is 99% likely to cheat on her because....Hellooooo....other women want to own that Hermès Birkin bag your rich hubby bought for you so they will either do everything to share him with you or to even snatch him from you! The rich husband is likely to be too busy with work and international trips so he keeps you locked up in his mansion 24hrs a day (you don't need to go to the market cos the maids will do that) and then after some months or years, the harsh reality that she is lacking that attention and love will begin to dawn on her especially when she becomes aware that her husband is frolicking with other hot girls outside!

It's like being between a rock and a hard place. The decision is yours to make as a woman
