Principal of a secondary school in Ogun state, southwest Nigeria, has been dragged before the police by parents of students in her school for carrying out virginity tests on their wards without their conLast week, students of Ajuwon High School near Akute, took to the streets in protest of the principal’s forced virginity test which took place in her office.Most of the students who spoke on the issue said their principal, Mrs Aladeojebi accused most of them of promiscuity and later forced them to her office where she conducted the virginity test using her hand.

One of the pupils accused her of using her hand to puncture her ‘honey pot’. The student who is in SS1 burst into tears and decided to inform her parents. Other parents were also informed and the matter was subsequently reported at the Ajuwon police station.

The principal while reportedly confessing to the police said invited a nurse to conduct the test and denied the allegation that she used her hand claiming instead that “egg” was used.

“It is totally unacceptable for a school principal to conduct virgin test.Is that part of the school syllabus or was it ratified by the Ogun state government?” one of the witnesses asked rhetorically.sent

When Kiam Moriya turns 12, the whole world will be watching.

The Alabama boy – who loves Krispy Kreme donuts and BMX biking – was born at 12:12 p.m. on December 12, 2000.

His twelfth birthday falls on Wednesday, 12/12/12.

“We’ve joked around that he’s the chosen one,” Kiam’s father, Kazuo Moriya, told Today.com.

Some say his son is lucky, but others fear the boy is a sign of a pending apocalypse.

“There are these weirdos out there online, all these doomsday people, saying he needs to be killed and that he’s the Antichrist,” Moriya said.

“We’re trying to tone it down because it’s a little freaky. It’s just a fun little story.”

The numerically bizarre date has swept the nation into a frenzy, as luck-seekers scoop up lottery tickets and couples seek marriage licenses to wed on Wednesday.

While many people celebrate birthdays on Dec. 12, Kiam’s sparked extra attention because of the exact time he was born. His parents first noticed the strange alignment of twelves while filling out paperwork for his birth certificate.

“The lady who was helping us fill out the forms said, ‘Do you realize your son was born December 12 at 12:12 p.m?” Moriya, originally from Tokyo, told Today.com.

“That’s when it really hit us with all those twelves. I do have to admit that it might mean something, but I have no idea what. It’s definitely a little crazy.”

The Moriyas will celebrate Kiam’s birthday during the sixth-grader’s lunch period at Joseph S. Bruno Montessori Academy in Birmingham. His mom Tamara is bringing Krispy Kreme donuts for the entire school.

They’ll be arranged in the shape of a 12, she told AL.com.

Kiam, who was born premature at a hospital in Bronxville, N.Y., told the website his birthday is “very cool.”

“It’s like one minute out of a lifetime,” he said. “You know, it’s all 12s.”

A similar date won’t happen for 88 years, when 01/01/01 rolls around.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde on Monday said that N14 billion being taken outside the country in 2012 was intercepted at the country’s airports.

Speaking at the 2012 International Anti-Corruption Day celebration organized by the Inter – Agency Task Team, IATT on Monday, the Chairman said the amount represented physical cash being taken out of the country.

He disclosed that between January and August 2012, the operations of a Special Task Team which is a joint patrol of the airport by the EFCC operatives and Nigerian Customs officers which commenced in September 2012, had yielded the arrest of illegal cash couriers.

Lamorde linked the illegal transfer and corruption to greed, callousness and meanness of the people involved saying, “corruption is one of the reasons Nigeria has not been able to make progress, socially, politically and economically and we have all agreed that corruption cannot be sustained in Nigeria, all of us must come together to fight corruption.”

The EFCC chairman, who said the funding of the anti-corruption agencies and their operating legislations have to be reviewed, explained that between January and December 2012, the Commission had filed about 353 cases at various courts across the country and had recorded about 53 convictions so far.

They are too young to walk and talk but tiny twins William and Ellenita Trykush can swim a length of a 25-metre pool at just nine months old.

The water babies love gliding up and down on their backs, kicking their legs to propel themselves along.nd as this delightful underwater picture shows, they even smile while they’re swimming.

Their achievements are even more astonishing given that they were born by emergency caesarean six weeks early.

The twins’ extraordinary talent emerged during a family holiday to Cyprus in October when they began to swim underwater, unaided and without armbands.

On their return to Cirencester, Gloucestershire, their mother Charlotte, 35, took them to local baby pool at the Cotsworld Leisure Centre where they both suddenly set off on their backs.
‘It was astonishing. First they did five metres, then a width at seven metres, and then a length of 12 metres,’ said French-born Mrs Trykush, a former swimming coach.

We were so excited – all the receptionists and swimming coaches came to watch and were amazed.

‘One of the coaches has been teaching for 20 years and she said she’d never seen anything like it.

‘I think it comes naturally to them, as they are too young to actually learn the strokes.’

Mr and Mrs Trykush, who are both youth workers, married in September 2008 and discovered they were expecting in July last year.

It was only at their 12 week scan that they discovered they were having not one, but two.

Mr Trykush, 49, said: ‘When I saw the two little dots on the screen it was just amazing.

‘I sank to my knees and shouted “Yes!” as if Chelsea had won the cup.

They were born by emergency Caesarean on 7 February, Ellenita first at five pounds (2.24kg) and then William at four-and-half pounds (2.07kg).

William had swallowed a large amount of blood, which had to be sucked out his stomach, and was severely jaundiced.

‘It was a very traumatic birth and William nearly died,’ said Mrs Trykush. ‘They were in incubators for three weeks but I was just so relieved they were going to be OK.

‘They were so premature and small that although I’d intended to take them swimming as soon as possible, I was worried they would get too cold in the water.

There was mild drama on Sunday around 7:45pm at Ogunlana Drive in Surulere, Lagos, when a middle-aged woman suspected to be mentally deranged stepped on the road and held traffic for a long time.

The journey has been solo and crazy. It has been one ride after another. It has been fun but it’s been mostly painful; very painful especially for a young woman doing music. So when you put a woman in the mix and have her do everything by herself and face the media, the critics, the haters… it’s been difficult.
The haters? You are generally perceived as a well loved artiste. Do you really have haters?
Oh yes. There are people who have never met you before, maybe they’ve seen your picture and because they hate how you look in that picture, they will hate you. Because you look fierce or daring in a picture, they will say you are arrogant. I’ve had to go through a lot of emotional stress, plenty heartache, plenty pain. At a point when you want to have fun with what you love to do, you can’t feel the joy anymore because there is so much pain.

Oh dear, you sound really hurt but you always appear happy and lively.
I appear to be very happy, but deep down, we go through so much. The look in your videos will hide this pain, the persona in your music would hide it except if your music is talking about the pain.

The recent kidnap of the mother of Nigeria’s finance minister and coordinator of the economy has come as a shock to many. Many wonder the state of security in the palace, in Delta State, where the 82-year-old professor was said to have been kidnapped on Sunday afternoon.

According to monitored reports, the woman who is a medical doctor was taken away by gunmen who disguised as palace guards.

A man who is currently in police custody was said to have gained entrance into the palace and informed the housemaid that he was there to convey the professor to somewhere in the town for an undisclosed traditional engagement.

Eyewitness accounts said that as soon as the woman stepped out of the main building, heading towards the gate, the kidnappers moved in from the gate, and pushed her into a waiting car.

The gunmen were reported to have taken the workers who were fixing interlocking tiles at the gate of the palace hostage ordering them to lie face down.

“Immediately they saw our king’s wife, the Queen Mother who was coming towards the gate with her maid to serve the workers soft drinks, she was seized and thrown into a waiting Golf car while another car was parked outside.”

Another eyewitness said: “One of kidnappers, bracing all odds, went upstairs to collect the Queen Mother’s handbag. Another maid who sighted the kidnapper upstairs hid herself in the kitchen.”

Delta State police public relations officer, PPRO, Charles Muka in his reaction said, “Yes, we (police) have got the information on the kidnap and we have also got information that will lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.”

You will quiver seeing 63-year-old widow, Mrs. Janet Ogbonna, an indigene of Imo State, who is suffering from malignant cancer of the anus.

Sunday Vanguard reported the plight of the woman, some months ago, but the situation has got quite dicey for her and her family, particularly her son, Uchechukwu, who had practically abandoned his university studies to help his dying mother.

At the time of this report, the owner of their one-room apartment had served the family quit notice. If leaving the apartment could solve the problem, the Ogbonnas would have gladly done that, as you will find out in the story. The one -room apartment is located on the popular Refinery Road, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.

The widow, Sunday Vanguard learnt, has been rejected by the family of her husband because of the illness. Her son, Uchechukwu, who exemplifies the Lord’s charge to children to take care of their parents, is not the one directly wearing the shoe, but he is feeling the pains her mother is going through. You can see it as he speaks to you weeping.

He wants the Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, to come to the aid of the family.

His words, “I am no longer thinking of my school; even to feed is a problem. I cannot feed in that condition that I see my mother day-in, day-out. My mother is in pains. She cannot sit down; she cannot even stand up right. Do you know how my mother sleeps, she sleep on her knees daily as if she is praying.

‘I want government at all levels to hear her case. I want my mother to live again because that is all I have. My father died at a very tender stage of my life. I do not even know him and my mother has been taking care of us. I don’t want to lose her.”

Mrs. Ogbonna, who has allegedly been denied all forms of support since her husband died, more than two decades ago, was diagnosed of the cancer of the anus in 2008 at the Federal Medical Center, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Umuahia, Abia State.

For the past six years, she has not laughed; sorrow has been her companion, as she moved across the country in search of cure for the strange illness.

What is standing between life and death for her is N10.8 million, which is what is required to take her to India for treatment.

Besides the excruciating pain, Mrs. Ogbonna is passing through an offensive odour that oozes out of her room; she can neither walk nor stand straight because of the ailment.

On the ejection notice to the family, Uchechukwu said, “The worst is that we have been given a quit notice to vacate the one-room apartment we are staying in, That has compounded our problem and, you know the people of this area, nobody will allow my mother to pack into his or her compound in that condition. Where do we go from here, Imo State or where?

“Even if we decide to go back to our state, Imo, where do we start from? That is the reason I am calling for help to raise N10.8 million for her treatment in India. We have gone to churches, hospitals but nothing seems to be happening.

“If my mother bounces back to life, I wouldn’t mind packing to anywhere but in her present condition, it is not possible to get a house. I want her to be treated. My mother is still a young woman. I do not want to lose my only surviving parent now; hence I am making this passionate appeal for the public to come to our aid.

“Please we beg the public to come our aid. Please, we beg the public to help us to survive this. Now, the ailment has degenerated from the stage we were referred to India for proper treatment.”

At least two people have been feared dead when an explosion rocked Plaza junction, by Kanti Kori in Kano during the morning rush hour on Monday.

According to reports the two people affected are a security personnel and a passerby. JTF officials have however cordoned off the area while investigation into the attack has commenced.

Meanwhile, spokesman of the JTF in the city, Captain Ikediche Iweha confirmed the incident to Vanguard on the telephone, adding that he will volunteer details as soon as they are available. The Aide-de-Camp to the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Mr. Omo Gabriel, and two other police officers on Saturday, allegedly beat up a policeman attached the state government house for delaying in opening the gate for the governor’s convoy.

The incident, which occurred around 12:30am, when the governor returned from his wife’s birthday party, left the victim unconscious.

The mobile policeman, Corporal Itere Ewedor, was said to have been on duty at the security post when the governor’s convoy drove in.

Efforts to speak to Ewedor on Saturday were not successful as he was said to be resting but his friend, Mr. David Edhie, confirmed the incident.

The bickering generated over the comments attributed to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)

“The CBN governor is not in a popularity contest, my job is to give a frank and honest opinion as to where I think the economy will go… sacking me won’t change anything,” he said.

He buttressed is point saying, “There is one state governor I know who has over 400 special assistants… Do we really need 42 ministers in Nigeria? These are questions that we need to ask. We are modeled after the American system [of governance] and that kind of government is structured to be expensive.”

Many analysts, including the Nigeria Labour Congress and the House of Representatives, have cautioned Sanusi to watch his utterances and avoid heating up the polity.
