The cowl does not make the monk.
Putting on an NYSC uniform doesn't mean she squarely served the Nation, and eventually got her certificate.
Even though it's obvious the country is sick, we still have some rational minds.
Thank you |

Having read all the brouhahas on which school(s) is/are the best and the size of the opportunities that awaits the grads of these supposed best schools, I will want to join my voice with the voices of all other strong believers of the words of Socrates: " Man know thyself " Make of that what you will. If you know, you know. . |

sweetmb4real200: Thank you so much @predstan. Secondly is it possible I tell my school to add my certificate with the transcript they are sending or they send just transcripts ? Don't make the mistake of excluding your certificate else, WES will put your evaluation on hold till they get your certificate from your school. Consequently, this will make you incur additional expenses and as well cause unnecessary delays in the evaluation process. Ensure you request your school to send both transcript and certificate to WES. Goodluck. |

reDazey: In fact, I got an acceptance email with admission and funding letter from the University of Utah. After 10 hours, I received another mail saying it was an error. Then I wished "Amadioha's thunder" was real. I had the perfect target. LoL. For real? This must be heartbreaking, but the way you put it makes it pretty hilarious. |

@TheGrandChemist, lol. Rankings are not checked that way. You look at course-specific rankings if ranking matters to you. The University of Utah is among the top 50 graduate programs in Computer Science, highly ranked than William and Mary. Oh, course specific (University of Utah ranked 43 and College of William and Mary ranked 68 in computer science). I see. The difference is not that much, though. LoL Anyways, it's still a great school. Congratulations. |

reDazey: My Second Experience I will start by congratulating everyone who has an admission. It is truly an arduous journey. More congratulations to those with funding and all the best to those still awaiting funding. I must add that it is not over till you hear from all your schools. Last year, I can recall a close friend who got an admit with full funding in May. Hope still dey!
I want to encourage someone here today with my story. Never give up on yourself and your dreams. When you plan to retry, find out the actions that failed you and learn to change your strategy for success. Finally, keep trying if you believe so much in a vision till you achieve it.
This is the period where most of us sit and wait with bated breath, hoping and praying that our admission with some sort of financial funding drops into our mailbox. I pray everyone gets their heart desires.
Last year, I was in a similar position. I felt dejected, some of us can relate to this emotion. Lots of admissions with no funding. I applied to combinations of (MSc and Ph.D.) in Statistics/Maths. Got some rejections and some acceptances( without funding). It was a terrible blow because I felt I had a good profile. (GPA 3.6/4(WES), GRE 318, TOEFL 109). However, I learned some important lessons. It is not always about one aspect of your profile. LORs and SOPs are very important.
Having been out of school for a while and working in an IT-intensive organization; I overlooked my IT skills which were going to be advantageous. I got some advice from several persons, I selected the ones I felt will work for me and dropped the rest. So for Fall 2018, I restrategized, applied to CS programs. Also, I realized I did not take some risk on my former school list (Sirriddy and Scholastica16 encouraged me to aim higher).
So this year, I reapplied to 5 Ph.D. programs 1. The University of Massachusetts, Amherst (pending) 2. The University of Utah (rejected) 3. Kansas State University(accepted with full funding) 4. The University of Alabama (accepted, no funding. I did not bother to ask for any.) 5. College of William and Mary(accepted with full funding, being considered for fellowship) Also, to "avoid stories that touch", I applied to Georgia Southern (MSc Mathematics and I was accepted with a funded GTA position)
I thank God for the courage to try one more time and I pray that everyone finds a reason to believe in themselves and keep pushing. Special thanks to the extraordinary persons that supported me throughout this journey; Sirriddy(you are just too much), divabiola, jaybiz007, Scholastica16, MsNas, dramaka). Thank you guys for being more than friends. You can imagine University of Utah ranked 110 rejected you whereas, College of William and Mary ranked 32 accepted you. Truly, man proposes, God disposes. Awesome. Congratulations |

Quoran: Hello Guys. Please I need your help on this. If you have a fully funded offer (Tuition waived and stipend) and you are just required to pay some mandatory fees and health insurance, do you have to pay for these before applying for visa or simply present the account statement to the VO duing the visa interview (If he asks for it)? Congrats man. Fall 2018 #Of_Course_It's_A_Reality |

Quoran: Lol Only these universities know what they are looking for. Some focus on GPA. Some won't even look at your application if your GRE scores isn't up to what they expect. A Professor in Oregon State told me that in his department, if you don't get their minimum GRE score,They won't even look at your application. Some of these GPA-centric universities tend to believe that your GPA is the result of some years work.GRE scores are the product of a short time effort. I agree with them though. The key thing I believe, is just to be a 'best fit' for your research area.
PhD applications are dicey. Many things have to work in your favour. Spaces are usually limited. For UCLA, 300 people applied to a particular department, only 15 were admitted. Spot on. This is the more reason one shouldn't just focus solely on his/her GRE scores and GPA. Other things like statement of purpose and letters of recommendation matter greatly. One important thing that is usually overlooked by applicants is their choice of school. It is important for one to do a thorough research on the school of interest so as to know if it flies with his/her profile before submitting an application. For instance, having done a research on Gradcafe and one discovers that school A usually prefers applicants with very high GPA's, it would be unwise for one who has a GPA of 3.2/4.0 to apply to the same school. So, it's one thing to get a good overall profile, it's another thing to select those schools that will consider one's 'good overall profile' as good enough for admission. |

tescoman90: seems true Hahaha. This got me laughing really hard. I noticed that on Gradcafe. Some schools would prefer to admit someone who has a GPA of 4.0/4.0 and a cumulative GRE score of let's say 315 to someone who has a GPA of 3.5/4.0, GRE score of 332 and some years of research experience. |

dmajor1: Good morning house. I'm back in here to give back after taking so much from this platform since last year. I came here a novice and I got the needed help here especially from Ndawe and oludare01. I havr since taken all the standardised test, submitted applications and received decisions. In all, I applied to six schools. Submitted four of those applications in early December and the other two before 8th January. All the decisions that I've gotten till date came in January. Saying this to emphasize the benefits of early application. I apologize for not coming here early enough. My profile is Summarised below
GPA: 3.67/5 (UG) and 5.8/7.0 (PG) WES: 3.25 and 3.51 GRE: 305 TOEFL: 105 UG Course: Chemistry PG Course: Analytical Chemistry School Applied: Vanderbilt, FSU, Alabama, SIT, Nebraska-Lincoln, Pennsylvania State University. School Admitted: Florida State University and University of Alabama (both with assistantship) Schools Rejected: Penn state Schools Unresponsive: Vanderbilt, Nebraska-Lincoln, Steven's institute of technology.
It was a long walk. It still is for there are still many hurdles ahead. I appreciate everyone here for helping me out to make this a reality. Information is power. Awesome. Congratulations |
