Manchester United has edged Everton to advance to the FA Cup final in Wembley. But the 2:1 win against Everton did not come without much drama. Manchester United went ahead at the break thanks to a Marouane Fellaini’s 34th minute strike. Fellaini reaches Anthony Martial’s cross to slot the ball into the net of his former club after dominating the game. The second half saw a better Everton as they kept constant pressure on the Manchester United defence. Everton was rewarded shortly after the referee pointed to the penalty spot when Fosu Mensah was adjudged to have brought down Stone in the box. Again David De Gea was the hero of the night for the Reds as he saved a Romelu Lukaku penalty after 55 minutes. Everton equalised after 75 minutes thanks to Chris Smalling’s own goal but with the game heading into extra time Anthony Martial smashes the ball into the back of the net to send Manchester United through to the final. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has called on Nigerian electricity consumers to acquaint themselves with the process under which electricity is now being produced, transmitted and supplied. The Minister made this charge in a meeting with the Director General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Dupe Atoki. According to the Fashola the Minister noted that in as much as the position of consumers in service delivery is more sacrosanct now than ever before and that they have the duty to play to the rule in decision making when called upon to do so. Babatunde Raji Fashola added that Nigerians must understand that the service providers have been changed with the privatization of the two key arms of electricity value chain. He informed that this is the beginning of the new era of joint ownership which is important because no provider can fix tariff without the participation of consumers. He also commended the renewed vigour which the new helmsman has put into the running of the CPC, promising that the power sector under his watch will not allow Nigerians to be short-changed. Fashola noted that this has informed Government’s stand on the need to bridge the metering gap. The Director-General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Dupe Atoki while appealing to the Minister to hold operators in the power sector accountable, commended the Minister for coming up with a consumer-centred agenda for the three key sectors: Power, Works and Housing, under his watch. She particularly commended the Minister for ensuring significant commitment to ensuring improvement in electricity supply as recently experienced. culled from www.theheadlinerng.net follow us on @TheHeadlinerng |
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has debunked media reports that the looming nationwide blackout is due to the ongoing labour lockdown of the TCN headquarters in Abuja. In a statement signed by the General Manager of Public Affairs in the TCN, Seun Olagunju TCN explained that the on-going labour issues affect administrative work only at the corporate headquarters of TCN. It added that the company’s ability to carry out its core duty of wheeling bulk electricity is not in any way hampered by the inability of staff at the corporate headquarters, whose core duties are mainly administrative and supervisory to temporarily gain access to their offices and engineers whose core duty it is to ensure that electricity is efficiently wheeled through high tension transmission lines and subsets. “Presently, these engineers are at their duty posts, performing their duties assiduously. As such, the issue of imminent blackout does not arise,” the statement noted. According to the statement, because the company recognizes the importance of coordinating and supervising the activities of TCN regional offices by the Corporate Headquarters, communication between key management staff and the regions has been continuous through the telephone and Internet services. The statement intensified that the TCN assures its customers and the public that meetings are however currently on-going between the affected parties to quickly resolve outstanding issues. Adding, TCN reiterates its commitment to continual working with other stakeholders towards the growth of the sector and improvement of power supply in Nigeria.
