Politics / Biafra: I Am Not Going To Give Room For Referendum, Buhari. by TheLawTheLegal: 12:05am On Sep 25, 2016 |
Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari today foreclosed any chance for a referendum as a path to bring healing and closure to the vexing issue of Biafra. He made the statement during a media event in New York City at the end of his visit to the United States as the leader of Nigeria's delegation to the 71th United Nations' General Assembly. The president stated that the choice left for Biafran activists is to form a political party that would advance their interest within the Nigerian democratic space. The president’s advice to Biafrans activists came a day after commercial activities in some key cities in the South East, and South-South of Nigeria were grounded following a stay at home order from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB ). There were also protests in various cities around the world by Biafran activists demanding the release from prison of IPOB's leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. In recent past, the president had been dismissive of Biafran agitators as kids who did not see the Biafra-Nigeria Civil War. A few weeks ago, while speaking to Youth Corp members who visited him at his country home in Daura, the president pressed on them to ask their friends to forget Biafra. Mr. Buhari also used the opportunity offered by the media event to outline the accomplishments of his trip to the General Assembly. He stated that Nigeria was well represented at various meetings held as part of the General Assembly. President Buhari talked about Nigeria's signing of the Paris Climate Change Accord and progress made at the Chad Basin conference. He announced that the US and the UK pledged over $300 million dollars to support the efforts of his government. Media personnel at the event were disappointed that the president was not going to take questions from the media despite the event being tagged a press conference. At the insistence of SaharaTV's Adeola Fayehun, the president reconsidered the position and took just three questions. He also granted a ten- minute interview to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America. Accompanying the president to the event were the governors of Lagos and Zamfara states. Other government officials present were ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Defence, Internal Affairs and other top government officials. Buhari departed New York for Abuja after the press conference. http://saharareporters.com/2016/09/24/no-referendum-biafra-president-buhari 1 Like

Rilwayne001: Lol..no need of replying you again. But let me just give you a hint beçause I know that you have not beeñ to the east. When I got admission to study law in UNN, çut off Mark for states differed. 272 for Enugu indiģenes, 272 for Anambra, etc then 241 for kogi, 245 for Ekiti, etç This made it possible for two persons from north to be in my clàss, nobody from the west. The truth is that nobody from the west wants to stay in the east. They would rather remaiñ in their states while shouting that the south east isn't friendly. |

Rilwayne001:How many people from Yorubaland would want to study in the east? Although the cut off marks for the south west and the north àre always very ĺow just to encourage them to çome to UNN, they still have this bias and hatred for the east. so much so for one Nigeria. 2 Likes |

xreal: Why appoint a junior? The same government applies different rules to different people. did you not read this part: Based on fairness to official hierarchy which was applied to oust a former Executive Director, Mr. Callistus Nwabueze Obi in favour of Mr. Haruna Jauro who was a NIMASA acting DG for 72 hours after his former boss (DG) was sacked, Mr Jamoh should not have been elevated to this position.[b][quote author=xreal post=49457708]Afterall he is qualified and was serving in the same agency (NIMASA) before now. 16 Likes |
Politics / PMB Appoints Son In Law Executive Director, NIMASA Ahead Of Superiors. by TheLawTheLegal: 7:45am On Sep 18, 2016 |
The Federal Government a few weeks back, on recommendation by the Minister of Transport appointed the following Executive Directors; Mr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh is the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Mr. Joseph Oluwarotimi Fashakin is the Executive Director, Maritime Safety and Shipping Development while Mr. Gambo Ahmed is the Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services. The Executive Director Finance and Administration, Mr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh is the son-inlaw to President Mohammadu Buhari. Until his appointment, he was an Assistant Director in NIMASA in charge of Training and Development. He had served in the Kaduna State government before transferring his services to the then National Maritime Authority (NMA) in 1994. Jamoh also holds a Master’s degree in Management from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University, with a Diploma in Accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. Mr. Jamoh an Assistant Director is being elevated to an Executive Director, ahead of his superiors, which goes contrary to Nigerian civil services guidelines. Some may say that this was a political appointment but Mr Jamoh never resigned from NIMASA before being elevated to his new position. Based on fairness to official hierarchy which was applied to oust a former Executive Director, Mr. Callistus Nwabueze Obi in favour of Mr. Haruna Jauro who was a NIMASA acting DG for 72 hours after his former boss (DG) was sacked, Mr Jamoh should not have been elevated to this position. His appointment above his superiors is a major disregard to due process. Obviously you don’t expect a director to take directives from a one time subordinate. This type of appointment breeds bad blood and puts a clog in the wheels of operations and administrative duties. In fact I am compelled to believe he was appointed because he is a son- inlaw to President Mohammadu Buhari, being married to his daughter. This is a deceitful and improper appointment. Another ED appointee, Mr. Joseph Oluwarotimi Fashakin, is a well-known APC mouthpiece as they sought for this change agenda and quite vocal to say the least. He is the Executive Director in charge of Maritime Safety and Shipping Development. He is a Telecommunication Engineer having graduated from the University of Ife with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Mr. Fashakin is a career telecommunication engineer and his appointment gratifies the saying that states ‘putting a square peg in a round hole’! He is versed in his qualifications cum experience albeit in the communication sector and one wonders why he was not appointed into the Nigerian Communication Commission, (NCC) or even the Nigerian broadcasting Commission (NBC) where his experience will be brought to bear and well appreciated. What does Mr. Fashakin bring to the table as far as Maritime Safety and Shipping Development are concerned? Finally, the third appointee, Mr. Gambo Ahmed, the Executive Director of Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services holds a Bachelor’s degree in (Business Administration) Actuarial Science from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Masters in Banking and Finance from the Bayero University, Kano. Mr. Gambo has spent a number of years of his career in the financial sector. If common sense had prevailed in this process, he should have been assigned to Mr. Jamoh’s portfolio of finance and administration or better still sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) where his wealth of experience in the sector would be well appreciated. At a time when our economy is in dire straits, he should have been able to introduce innovative concepts and ideas to the nation’s stock exchange market and by so doing set a pathway to revamping our ailing economy. These appointments are truly lopsided and unthoughtful for NIMASA’s progress. FROM kABIRU ISSAH, IN THIS DAY http://abujareporters.com.ng/buharis-appoints-son-in-law-bashir-jamoh-with-diploma-in-accounting-as-executive-director-finance-in-nimasa-ahead-of-superiors/ http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/09/05/nimasas-executive-directors-assume-duty/

NYSC / Re: Rivers State Corpers' Pain: A Plea to Gov. Nyesom Wike to Fulfil Allawee Promise by TheLawTheLegal: 10:01am On Sep 12, 2016 |
It is very disheartening indeed. The amount a corps member spends on transportation in Rivers State is more than 8000 in a month, just to go to their PPA. The Gov raised the hope of these corps members and now he is reneging on his Promise. I don't want to believe that he made that promise just to score some cheap political gains. To think that Enugu State pays corps members #10000 per month and an oil rich state like Rivers State pays nothing, is disheartening. One donald1111 is busy ranting that the Corp members should leave the governor alone and go and work for money. Does he know that 98 percent of Corp members in Rivers State are posted to government schools where they have to go to school almost on a daily basis? Do you know how many of them that have been issued query for missing CDS? The annoying part is the level of insecurity in Rivers. The way Corp members are robbed is not fair. A friend told me how his phone was stolen and after one month of buying a new one, he was accosted by three men who slapped him and collected the new phone. Amaechi stopped this payment when he was governor because of the issues he had with Jonathan and the fact that he needed money to sponsor Buhari. And now Wike wants to follow that wicked line. The love I have for Wike will die a natural death if he doesn't fulfill his Promise. NYSC does not serve any useful purpose. It should be scrapped. 10 Likes |
