Car Talk / Six Things You MUST Remember When You’re Freaking Out About The Future. by Thelifebeam: 9:36am On Jul 05, 2018
Do you get nervous waiting for your exam results? Maybe you can’t eat because your stomach is churning so much. You keep wondering about a whole bunch of questions:
What will the results be?
Will they be enough to get into my university course?
What if… what if I don’t get to do what I really, really wanted to do?
When your dream is shattered
I remember the shock of ‘bad’ exam results. One minute I had my world all planned out, and the next … well, the next moment everything crashed down around me. Here are some questions I had to deal with:
How much am I thinking ‘ Good marks = good person?’
How much of my self-esteem depends on my academic results?
Am I trusting in God, or am I really trying to control him by planning out my own future?
Have I been expecting God to automatically approve my ideas, rather than letting Him be in charge?
What now
In Proverbs, we are reminded:
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
If you’re dealing with the same grief I had to deal with, don’t panic. It can feel like you’re facing a really uncertain future, but you’re not alone, and you’re not lost. Here are some things that helped me:

Religion / 3 Ways To Encourage Yourself When You’re Feeling Down - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:35am On Feb 20, 2018
All of us need encouragement. It is a tool that increases our confidence and inspires us to act with courage, spirit and strength.

First and foremost we need to learn how to encourage ourselves. We are the only person we are with twenty four hours each day, seven days a week: 24/7 is our time with ourselves. We need to be equipped with tools to help us minister to ourselves.

Many times people feel dissatisfied because they don’t feel appreciated by others. That’s understandable. Of course we all long to be valued by others. But if our happiness depends on the encouragement of others, we may at times find ourselves being needlessly discouraged. The solution is to encourage yourself!

Here are 3 Ways To Encourage Yourself When You’re Feeling Down…

Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself
If you’re thinking to yourself…

“What do I have to be proud of?” “What am I doing so wrong?” ”

Don’t be so hard on yourself. There are plenty of reasons to celebrate you, your life, even if it’s the simple fact that God has kept you this far.

Whether it is because of a small accomplishment or just life in general, you have to believe in yourself.

Even if you’re not where you’d hoped to be at the stage in your life, praise God for even allowing you to get this far.

Theres’s always something to be hopeful and encouraged about. Sometimes it’s just a matter of seeing ourselves the way God sees us. The only way to do that is through His word; the Bible. I personally believe it’s the best encouragement when you’re feeling down.

If self esteem is an issue for you, try therapy or do some research on the subject. You can’t encourage yourself if you don’t like yourself.

Make a list of your blessings.
When encouraging yourself, it’s great to start off with the well-known and obvious things such as health, family, friends, your home, and so on.But once you’ve listed those things, try to be more specific.

For instance, if you’re thankful for your family, one by one list the members of your family and then write a detailed listing of all of the ways you are thankful for that specific family member. The same can be true for the other biggies.

Sometimes we overlook the small things because we’re thrown off track when things don’t go the way we expect them to.

Don’t sweat it. God’s got you!

Look at it this way… to you, you may not have much. But to someone else, you might have the very thing they’re praying for.

Remind yourself of how faithful God is.
I’m sure this is not the first time you’ve been down and it definitely won’t be the last. Yet by the grace of God you’ve managed to survive this far. He hasn’t let you down yet, and don’t expect Him to start today.

Religion / Remorse – A Step To Repentance. - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:18am On Feb 20, 2018
Remorse is an emotional expression of personal regret felt by a person after commiting an act which they deem to be shameful and wrong. In this case, we refer to actions that are displeasing to God.Many times we go against the wishes and commandment of God.But until we realise that we have sinned and are really contrite for that sin, we cannot truly seek repentance.

In 2 Samuel 12, after King David had taken Bathsheba to himself and murdered her husband Uriah in the warfront. When Prophet Nathan came and told David that his actions offended God, he tore his clothes and put on sacks clothes and wouldn’t speak or eat for three days.

He was remorseful because he loved God and realised how much his action had offended God.To have an healthy relationship with God,Our utmost desire should be to remove all blocks that hinder our relationship with God.

As impossible as it is to serve two masters, so it is to love God and sin.Our love for God should make us aliens to sin.

Religion / Is Your Insurance A Lack Of Faith In God? - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:09am On Feb 20, 2018
Though it seems a black-and-white matter some, the biblical case for health insurance (or lack thereof) is debated in many Christian circles. When it comes to weathering life’s storms, many Christians hold contrasting viewpoints.

Some Christians believe one way to demonstrate an unwavering faith in God is by electing not to utilize modern modes of health and asset protection, such as insurance. Others view safeguard coverage as one of God-ordained preparedness options – meant to help us run our households with providence.

But does the Bible give us any insight into the matter?

1. No matter how strongly you feel about the matter, don’t judge the opposite camp.
Scripture advises, first of all, to respect the variant convictions of others. Romans 14:4 states not to judge others for their decisions — that’s for the Lord only. Regardless of your consideration of policy, it’s important to remember that others may be equally committed to an opposing view.

Romans 14:5 goes on to encourage each Christian to form his own opinion with confidence. Not everybody has to think the same way, and each person should be confident in their own views. To make an informed decision regarding insurance and faith, explore the Bible’s take on preparedness.

2. Keep in mind the example of Joseph.
In Genesis 41:1-37, Joseph, a Hebrew slave held in Egypt, interpreted two of Pharaoh’s disturbing dreams. God revealed the dream imagery portrayed seven years of abundant harvests in Egypt, followed by seven years of famine. Through Pharaoh’s dream, God gave a picture of what was going to befall the country. After interpreting the dream, God used Joseph to work with Pharaoh in appointed commissioners to begin stocking food after the fifth harvest and put it in reserve for use during the seven-year famine to – saving the entire country as a result.

Religion / 3 Practical Tips For Overcoming Temptations - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 4:05am On Feb 12, 2018
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” – (1 Corinthians. 10:13)

Without a doubt, the biggest challenge that Christians face is temptation. Sometimes temptation can be avoided.

A pastor once told his congregation, “I learned a great lesson from a dog.” He said, “His master used to put meat on the ground, and he’d say to the dog, “Don’t eat that!” and the dog would run over and eat it anyway, so he’d hit the dog.

He would then put another piece of meat on the ground and say again, “Don’t eat that!” The dog would go over and eat it, and he’d hit him again.

Well, after awhile, the dog got the message: eat meat, get hit. So the dog decided he wouldn’t eat the meat.” But not only would he not eat it, he refused to even look at it.

The dog evidently figured out that if he looked at the meat, the temptation to disobey would be too great, and so he looked steadfastly into his master’s face and never took his eyes off him, and so the temptation never caused a problem.

Temptation also works like that. As long as we stare at it and entertain the thought, we’re susceptible.

Temptation is a very common problem for all of us, and most of the time, the problem is the same problem the dog had. We entertain ourselves by looking at the temptation rather than staring into the Master’s face.

So you’re wondering… What do we do?

Here are 3 Tips To Overcome Temptation…

1. Take it to God in Prayer
Pray about it and watch God work it out for you. You can’t do it on your own, but with God’s help, there is nothing you can’t do.

Get a favorite scripture and repeat as needed whenever you’re feeling tempted or overwhelmed with guilt.

As the scripture says, When you are tempted, God will make a way of escape and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. Just call on Him.

2. Consider the Consequences
What do you stand to lose by giving in to temptation? Your marriage, good health, or maybe just a clear conscious?

Religion / Why Does God Allow “bad” Things To Happen To Good People? by Thelifebeam: 3:18am On Feb 12, 2018
Even though the Bible says we are to glory in tribulation, I still cringe at the thought of suffering or pain.

It is in hard times that I wonder if God is really there with me. Is He really a faithful, infinitely powerful and loving father? Then WHY is He letting this happen?

If my imperfect earthly parents allowed me go through undesirable things because they love me and want the best for me, what more should I expect of my perfect heavenly father?

God would never let me go through something painful for no beneficial reason. I might not understand why God lets me go through some seemingly horrible situations, but I still choose to trust Him and His word.

Like Job I am learning to say “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” (Job 13:15)

It may seem like God is very unfair, but I’ll just have to believe that one day I will look back and thank Him for not withholding the “bad” things from me.

After all, it was the “bad things and the undesirable events that have produced a stronger, wiser, freer and more mature Christian.

Thank God for that.

Religion / 3 Things To Do When Your Faith Is Tested - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 3:11am On Feb 12, 2018
One of the biggest challenges we face on our spiritual journey is completely trusting God’s Will, especially when our faith is being tested.

A huge sign that you’re questioning your faith is when you begin to wrestle with Jesus. This is often a result of our disappointment in our lives based on our experiences and expectations.

While we can’t avoid disappointment, we are told through Scripture to trust in Jesus and His promises for us.

If you are dealing with a disappointment right now, remember that you can rely on Jesus. When we recognize God’s goodness, even in our daily struggles and disappointments, then we can really know God.

When your faith is tested, one of the best things you can do is have faith in God’s promises. God loves and cares about you deeply.

Hebrew 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of thing hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” God has so much for us that we just don’t have the ability to comprehend.

Religion / The Key To A Good Life - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:52am On Feb 12, 2018
Everyone of us wants our life to matter and have a deeper meaning to people around us. We are being created with a desire to live a great life. But the problem we have,is that, we lose sight of those little things that make life great and what it means to make a difference in our lifetime.

We fail to Understand that the core value to leading a good life is knowing God, and serving others.By the standard of the world , we would likely never be considered great, when w e stoop low to serve other. But to God, yes , definitely!

We are able to make a difference just by being a servant which is the core value of leadership. Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 2:5-7 that the attitude we should have is the one Jesus had.He always had the nature of God , but he did not think that by force He should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of His own freewill, he gave up all that He had and took the nature of a servant. He became like ah human being and appeared in human likeness.

Religion / 5 Idols Christian Leaders Worship Today - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 5:15pm On Jan 22, 2018
I’ve never had the urge to bow down to a metal cow, a carved human, or a wooden pole. The idea of chanting or dancing around a six-armed deity or pot-bellied statue doesn’t even come close to getting me excited. I’ve never wanted to make offerings to rats living in a shrine.

But that doesn’t mean I’m immune to idols. The idols that trip me up as a church leader aren’t tangible figures of supposed gods and goddesses. They’re ideas and beliefs that can, if left unchecked, crowd out my worship of the one true God.

Here are 5 idols Christian leaders worship today

So, what idols cause him fits?

1. Strategy

Planning how to get things done is great, and every church needs a strategy. But the problem is that such plans can’t pre-empt trusting God in faith.

2. Skill

God has gifted us all for service in the Church. That’s a good thing. Often, though, we’re tempted to substitute our skills for God’s supernatural work in the lives of people.

3. Size

You can make an idol out of a large church size or a small one. Either way, we have to remember that God gives the growth and prunes as He sees fit.

4. Stats

This idol comes in many forms: volunteers, attendance, baptisms, giving, website numbers, etc. But stats don’t tell you your worth.

5. Alliances

Sad to say, but our tribe or denomination can also be source of pride. Alliances like this can be good, but tribes don’t save. Only God does that.

5 Ways You May Be Blocking Your Own Blessings - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:50pm
Whether you are an entrepreneur who wants to start your own company, a writer hoping to write then publish your debut novel or just someone who wants to learn a new skill and improve yourself, there is nothing that can stop you. Not if you don’t let it.

Stop procrastinating. Start doing. If there is something in your life that you want to accomplish, that you want to do, then I only have one message for you: DO IT!

Sometimes “you” are the only person standing in your way. How is that possible you may ask?

Here are 5 Ways You May Be Standing in Your Own Way and Blocking Your Own Blessings:

Self Doubt

Remember the old saying “You never know until you try” Sometimes we have our minds programmed for failure and we expect the worse before we even try.

Think of how many talents, dreams, goals, businesses, gifts, jobs, relationships and so much more go to the grave with people. Fear is a roadblock stopping us from experiencing the life for which we were created to live.

Pride

Being able to admit our faults and wrong doings are what enables us to get back up and keep going when we fall. Proverbs 24:16 says “The righteous may fall seven times but still get up, but the wicked will stumble into trouble.”

We sometimes allow pride to keep us down way longer than we have to be.

Unforgiveness
“Whenever you stand up to pray, if you have something against anyone, forgive so that your Father in heaven may forgive you of your wrongdoings.” Mark 11:25.

Being able to forgive is so important. Not just because God commands it, but for our well-being as well. Unforgiveness emotionally ties you to a person for as long as you are carrying a grudge.

Think of it as having a scab and just when the scab starts to heal, you peel it. That’s what unforgiveness does. It stops your healing process.

10 Things To Know About Taking Communion - Thelifebeam

1. It’s about remembrance
The Lord’s Supper is primarily (but not exclusively) designed to elicit or to stimulate in our hearts remembrance of the person and work of Jesus: “Do this in remembrance of me” (1 Cor. 11:25).

2. It’s a commandment
This remembrance is commanded. Participation at the Lord’s Table is not an option. Prolonged absence from it is spiritually unhealthy and willful neglect of it may be grounds for church discipline.

3. It’s tangible
This remembrance entails the use of tangible elements: bread and wine. It isn’t enough simply to say, “Remember!” The elements of bread and wine are given to stir our minds and hearts. The physical action of eating and drinking is designed to remind us that we spiritually “ingest” and depend upon Jesus and the saving benefits of his life, death, and resurrection. Just as food and drink are essential to sustain physical existence, so also the blessings and benefits that come to us through the body and blood of Christ are paramount to our spiritual flourishing.

4. It’s personal
It is a personal remembrance. We are to remember Jesus. The focus isn’t on Abraham or Moses or Isaiah. The focus is no longer on the Jewish Passover or the night of his betrayal or anything else. The focus is Jesus. “Do this in remembrance of ME” (1 Cor. 11:25).

5. It’s confession
In this remembering there is also confession. In partaking of the elements we declare: “Christ gave his body and blood for me. He died for me.” This is one among many reasons why I reject the practice of paedo-communion (the giving of the elements of the Table to infants). If one cannot and does not personally and consciously confess that the bread and wine symbolize the body and blood of Jesus sacrificed for sinners, he/she should not, indeed must not, partake of them.

Religion / 3 Biblical Truths About Envy And Jealousy - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 2:08pm On Jan 22, 2018
3 Biblical Truths About Envy And Jealousy
1. Jealousy can lead to your downfall.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. – James 3:16

“Oh, did you see … and …?” “Look at her, girl I’d love to have her… ”

Jealousy. In the bible, we see that Saul was jealous of David, but to note, Saul brought his troubles upon himself.

A tool created by the devil. Jealousy will cause people to act strange and even harm people to the point of death.

What those who have this spirit upon them fail to realize is that they have their own set of gifts and blessings that God has given them, so why envy someone else and their blessing?

Also, some people with this spirit feel threatened by someone who appears to be higher than them; notice I said appear.

Just because the gift may be wrapped with the finest wrapping paper and most beautiful bow, what it holds inside may be rotten to the core.

Jealous people often times feel insecure, powerless, and doubt themselves about getting what they are jealous about.

2. Jealousy is more detrimental than wrath or anger.
Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? – Proverbs 27:4

Religion / 5 Bible Verses You Should Really Have Memorized - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 3:45pm On Jan 21, 2018
Choosing scriptures to memorize is a subjective endeavor. We all have favorites. My most successful way to memorize is typically with scriptures that seem to link together,

We all need a basic set of scriptures about knowing the Lord, understanding our need for forgiveness and transformation, and becoming a child of God. But we also need a set to help us live in ways that glorify and please Him.

The following ten scriptures can show us the way to the Father, practical principles for growth, and encouragement to walk with the Lord. Ten verses—it’s a good start.

1. Discover the Way to the Father
In a culture that professes many ways to God, claims of exclusivity upset people; but Jesus wanted us to discover the only way to the Father. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He is the only way because the Father chose Him to be the Savior, He’s the only one to live a perfect life—fulfilling the requirements of the law and prophets—and He is our sacrifice for sin, the perfect Mediator between God and man. He is the “only way” to heaven.

Though other scriptures share the “plan of salvation”—such as the “gospel in a nutshell” and the “whosoever” of faith—it’s crucial to distinguish Jesus’ words in John 14:6 from false teaching and postmodern distortions for coming to God. The gospel is clearly countercultural. The righteousness of God comes by grace through faith, not by any other means.

Supporting scriptures to study or memorize: Romans 3:21-26; Romans 6:23; Isaiah 53:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12; John 6:40; Ephesians 1:7 (1:3-14).

2. Wise Up
Once we know the Lord, we need to learn how to live for Him with wisdom and understanding. “The fear the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Proverbs 9:10). Wisdom is more than knowledge. Knowledge is gathering information in various ways, and it can exist apart from wisdom. “Smart” fools cannot discern or judge what is true and right. We learn much about wisdom from King Solomon in the Proverbs; and we can also learn from Jesus, who was full of wisdom.

Wisdom is a gift from God and we’re instructed to pray for it. Wisdom comes when we seek God, honor, and rightly relate to Him and commit to obey Him. We might learn the Ten Commandments in Sunday school, but it takes godly wisdom to obey them. The “fear of the Lord” is deep, holy reverence for Him, and out of that reverence, desiring to honor, please and even enjoy Him.

Supporting scriptures to study or memorize: Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7; Job 28:28; Proverbs 2:5; Deuteronomy 6:1-2; 1 John 5:20.

3. Learn to Lean
Leaning has a positive and negative position according to Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” We lean on or trust God (positive) and don’t lean on our own understanding (negative). The result of leaning right is this: God will “make straight your paths.” He will direct us and, in His time, make His plan clear. When we stop being “wise” in our own eyes, we will properly learn to respect God and desire holiness.

We only see “in part” this side of heaven. Our ways may seem best, but our thoughts and ways are not like His. We must learn to lean on the Lord because He sees the entire picture, not just our little piece of the puzzle. The Lord can help us navigate through the confusion. The culture may change, but God’s standards of holiness never change.

Supporting scriptures to study or memorize: Psalm 37:5; Psalm 37:23-24; Philippians 4:19; Hebrews 11:1; Matthew 6:25-34; Psalm 56:3-4; Philippians 4:6; Isaiah 41:13; Psalm 55:22; Matthew 11:28; Psalm 62:7; Psalm 121:2.

Religion / God Sees You , And You Matter A Lot To Him - Thelifebeam by Thelifebeam: 9:52am On Jan 20, 2018
Who hasn’t been in that awkward situation where you send someone a message, it shows that they have ‘seen’ the message, but they don’t reply? ‘Hmm,’ you wonder. “Is this person ignoring me?”

Or have you ever delayed responding to a message after you opened it, then had the person ask you why you didn’t respond?

No doubt, it’s an uncomfortable feeling when someone doesn’t respond, especially when you know they’ve seen your message.

O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer – Psalm 22:2

It’s one thing when a human being has seen your message and they don’t respond – it’s quite another situation when God has heard and seen you but still chooses not to answer.

For the record, there are many reasons why people don’t respond; it doesn’t mean that they are deliberately ignoring you.

Have you been there; you cry, pray, claim Bible scriptures but God still isn’t responding?

What about that beautiful promise in Jeremiah 33, “Call me to me and I will answer you”?

There are many individuals in the Bible who were left on ‘seen’ by God:

Job – “I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me” (Job 30:20).

King Saul – Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?” But He did not answer him on that day (1 Samuel 14:37).

Israel – “the LORD will not answer you” (1 Samuel 8:18)

When God doesn’t seem to answer our prayers (or leaves us on ‘seen’), there’s always a good reason. Here are just a few of them…

1. He sees your distractions.
He’s responding, but we just can’t hear Him because we have too much noise in our spiritual ears.

When seeking an answer from God, be still. Quiet the noise and distractions around you, spend more time in His Word, pray, fast, and believe that He will answer.

You do this not because you want Him to answer, but because you know that He will answer.

2. He sees the condition of your heart.
There is unconfessed sin in your heart.

In Psalm 66 David said, “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” Allow the Holy Spirit to shine His light on your heart and reveal the unpleasing things.

When He does this, confess your sins and claim Jesus’ forgiveness.

3. He sees your faith wavering.
He’s testing your patience and faith.

Matthew 15:23 has one of the most unsettling phrases in the Bible; “But He answered her not a word.”

If Jesus had Facebook messenger, this would rank #1 as a ‘seen’ but ignored message.

While it may have seemed odd that Jesus did not answer this woman, this moment of ‘patience-testing’ would be used forever as a sign of great faith.
