It's about a country's foreign reserves. When you transfer money from country A to country B, your local bank has to have the equivalent USD in their correspondent bank for your transfer to be given value, or else it won't fly. The local banks obtain most of their USD from the CBN through the interbank market. For your dorm account transactions, they use their own reserves at their correspondent banks to back it up. If they don't have much their, they won't transfer your money. If the CBN doesn't authorise them to fund your transaction from the interbank market, they won't open LCs for you or remitt for you as the case maybe, from your naira account. The developed countries have lots of USD reserves that encourage liberal exchange rate policies. Nigeria doesn't and the CBN says Nigeria doesn't have that much. A currency's exchange depends largely on the number of months of imports it's foreign reserves can finance. The more your reserves the stronger your currency and trust in your trade instruments. If CBN depletes our reserves without devaluing the naira, there will be serious wahala for all. Tough choices ahead

Politics / Re: I Will Prosecute Electoral Offenders – Buhari by themano: 5:07pm On Apr 12, 2015
He should start with himself and his wife. Both were pictured openly canvassing for votes on Saturday by showing everyone their thumbprinted ballot papers. Does he know what electoral act says about that.
Politics / Re: I Will Prosecute Electoral Offenders – Buhari by themano: 4:56pm On Apr 12, 2015
lalasticlala:
President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to set up a special court to prosecute and punish electoral offenders in order to discourage electoral malpractices.

According him, though he had not read the report of the Justice Mohammed Uwais Committee report on Electoral Reform, he intended to adopt recommendations that could be of help to the system.

He added that he would seek the cooperation of the National Assembly for a comprehensive overhaul of the system.

Buhari disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Daura, Katsina State after casting his ballot in yesterday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Kofar Baru “3” of Sarkin Yara Ward, Daura Local Government Area, adding that it was the only way to prevent offenders from reaping from where they did not sow.

Buhari said his party, the APC, was critically following developments in Edo, Rivers and Imo States in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly polls, gathering evidence to present to INEC and the courts.

He said: “I will look for understanding and cooperation from the National Assembly where a change in the Constitution or the Electoral Act is necessary. So, for me, to make up my mind here and later try to lobby is out of it because some of them, if they are very hard, they will give me a tough time. I will say that I haven’t read the Uwais Report, but I have read a few of the extracts from the papers, I think it is a good thing and we will encourage it.

“But we need to get a comprehensive report from the field. The running battle from Rivers, the South-East and the rest of the South-South, especially by Governor Amaechi, Governor Rochas Okorocha and governor of Edo State with INEC officials and law enforcement agencies and the Army is remarkable.

“I think it has to be totally exposed so that Nigerians will know which of the law enforcement agencies and at what levels is undermining the Constitution of Nigeria because the Electoral Act is derived from the Constitution of the country, so that in future, those who are in position will know that they are not beyond the law. I think that is what will bring more stability into the system. In view of that, I will try and work with the National Assembly to make sure that we do something about it.

“I will like to work within the system because we believe in it. I have just told you about three governors and the battle they have with the law enforcement agents in their states.

“We discussed and advised them to try and document these things legally so that it can be taken before the court and we will make sure that we register the cooperation of the court so that people who work against the law are prosecuted, especially those who have lost their immunity and those who think they have immunity because this is the best way to stabilize the system.

“People must not benefit from being lawless. You can’t be in a position by virtue of the Constitution, subvert the Constitution and continue to enjoy the privileges offered by the Constitution. I don’t think that will be acceptable by the APC. So, whether you are in the opposition or the government, you have to behave yourself. I think that is the way we can make progress.”

On yesterday’s elections, Buhari affirmed that the disruptions experienced were less than what obtained in the presidential and National Assembly elections.

He, however, said that the stories in Lagos and other APC states were unfortunate even as he accused the ruling PDP of desperation to win Lagos.

“I think there are less disruptions today than we had during the presidential and National Assembly elections. I hope that it was as a result of the bandwagon effect because APC had the upper hand during the last elections. But what happened in the South-South and the South-East cannot be compared to what happened today.

“What I saw was that there was a few cases of ballot snatching in some local government areas in Bayelsa and a few disruptions in, I think, Adamawa state. But that is nothing near to what happened two weeks ago. I don’t think it is up to 25 percent of what happened two weeks ago. I think that after the elections, both parties, APC and PDP will perhaps make their presentations to INEC or the courts and then more details will emerge.

“Definitely, maybe because the turnout is much lower. From what I have heard, the turnout is much lower from what it was two weeks ago. Maybe the people just wanted a president and once they got one, they just walked away. They are Nigerians and there is nothing we can do, but to convince them that they have to use this weapon which is the permanent voter’s card.

“I think we should allow INEC to give its comprehensive report. Meanwhile, as you mentioned in some of the states, especially in Rivers and Lagos, the two parties are slugging it out. I think we have to take our time and let us get as many reports as possible in accordance with the Electoral act.

“I personally want to be legal about this so that people will appreciate that we believe in a system. What we need to do is to modify the system according to the law if we don’t like it and that no one should come out and do whatever he likes to the system.

“For what is happening in Lagos, I think that for whatever political reason, the PDP wants to have Lagos by all means. I have a lot of respect for the governor of Rivers State for his courage.

“It has been a long time as you all know when at a certain time, the Commissioner of a Police virtually hijacked the state and the governor was virtually sentenced to the streets, fighting thugs without law enforcement agents to survive as a governor while the constitution made it very clear to all of us that the governor is the Chief Security Officer of the state.

“So, a lot of unconstitutional and lawless acts of the PDP are on record and we intend to make the PDP understand it and make sure that according to the law, those who are responsible for that are taken to the court and properly charged. We are in this system because we believe in it and we want it to be stabilized because it is better for our country.

“If Nigerians have the confidence that their votes counts, then they will mind their own business and I assure you that there will be much security in the country. But when people feel that they are abandoned, then they will resist.

“I think that by nature, human beings are rebels especially in Nigeria. You either try and placate them, convince them and show them that their rights are respected, you will not have peace. From what we hear about the money that changed hands in this country, it would have been impossible for APC to win anything in this country because we don’t have any treasury in our pocket.

“There was no amount of money that could convince Nigerians this time around. A lot of them took the money and did exactly what their conscience wanted them to do, while some even returned the money. Somehow, Rivers and Lagos were somehow seen as strategic to the PDP. Otherwise, how can APC have a marginal 100,000 votes over PDP in Lagos which is virtually the capital of the APC in the south west. A lot of things will come out, but we want to do it basically on facts which can be verified and quantified”.

obynzo:
Good Evening House,
I have read all the comments from my Yoruba brethren and i realise one thing. The result of all these hate is because they are not widely travelled, they believe life begins and ends in their region. My sister had a Yoruba girl studying in the east who gained admission then because of a typo error that indicated FUTO instead of FUTA. The parents were already scared and were already thinking of putting her back to FUTA after year one, but do you know the interesting thing, she told her parents later that she would see out her studies in Owerri that the Igbo are not bad as they put it. What am trying to point out is that the Yoruba have refused to believe that not all igbo are like Zik that they fought against at the western house that resulted in the mass defection of NCNC yorubas to AG. Most people sounding the drums of war and hate against each other are kids that have never seen a war or seen mass killings, trust me it would always leave a mark in the eyes of the aggressor and the bereaved.
Coming to the Oba i must say i am deeply saddened that a xenophobic statement can come from a titled man like this, in Igbo land it is an abomination for a stranger to die in your land a stranger is treated with the utmost care even at the expense of thier own people, if you do not believe me ask the Yoruba people that had their NYSC in the east. Where i lived in Owerri my neighbours were Yoruba and they were so in love with that town that they had assimilated the culture and spoke Owerri dialect like they were indigines. I am Igbo by tribe and Lagosian by birth if there is any candidate, that i feel has what it takes to develop Lagos after all i have as much stake in this town as an indigine i would vote for him i do not need an Oba to decide or threaten me. All those Yoruba shouting about the Igbo my only prayer is that you get to travel and live in igboland maybe you would get to understand very well how we are as a tribe. Understanding is key all this hate filled messages all boils down to ignorance by most Yoruba youths that have never seen a war and i bet you once mass killings start they would all run away. Please STOP ALL THIS SENSELESS REMARKS WE NEED EACH OTHER NO ONE IS MORE THAN THE OTHER. The bulk of the tax from the informal sector in lagos is from the igbo traders so if you chase them where would you get your funds is it from a meagre federal allocation that cannot even service interest payments on Lagos state's debt? Common lets be wise here and not allow some politician or traditional ruler divide us. Those e-warriors how much were you paid to defend this senseless remarks? if roles were reversed would you be happy that you were classed like this? why do we sell our conscience to these wicked politicians and traditional rulers? do they remember you loyal tribesman after winning elections? do they allocate land to you after winning elections? OMO ODUDUWA PLEASE BE WISE

Thank you so much. Fact of the matter is that Most Yoruba Youth are shockingly not widely traveled and very much unexposed to the realities of other regions and cultures in Nigeria.

Politics / Re: Jonathan Is Not A Hero – Oby Ezekwesili by themano: 8:17pm On Apr 03, 2015
Monogamy:
Leader of the Bring Back Our Girls group and former minister of education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan does not deserve the hero tittle for accepting defeat in the just concluded presidential poll.

DAILY POST reports Jonathan, before the INEC chairman could announce the final result of last Saturday’s presidential election, had called General Buhari to congratulate him for winning the election.

Following his decision, many Nigerians have been praising the president for saving the entire nation from disaster.

However, Ezekwesili says if only Nigerians knew the extent of damage President Jonathan has done to Nigeria, they won’t hero worship him.

She took to her Twitter page on Thursday, to air her views on the recently held presidential election.

She tweeted: “When a review of President Jonathan’s administration is done, we’ll realize how much damage sycophancy did to governance. Example? Chibok Girls,” she wrote.

“A leader must be without an inordinate desire to be serenaded with ‘good news’ or their team will never let them know the true state of affairs.

“An environment that rewards sycophancy encourages team to withhold accurate ‘bad’ news (problems) from the leader while serving up ‘good news’.

” When a leader makes hero worshiping costly to those who engage in it, he/she deprives the ‘sellers’ market to set the ‘Mediocrity Benchmark.’

“A critical success factor in governance is for the leader to both in word and deed convey a culture that abhors sycophancy. No hero worshiping.”

You guys just taught the Northerners to always use up their number of registered voters during an election instead of accredited voters in 2019. Watch Kano pull 5million votes in 2019 with APC controlling the police and the military like the PDP used them this year .

Once the result from SW and NC favours GMB, which is what is already playing out, there is no magic the SS/SE can do with their figures that will give PDP victory.

12 Northern states are sure for GMB. From what we're getting, he will win Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Nassarawa in the NC. Add 5 states from the SW to the equation we will have 21 states won. 40% from Ekiti (confirmed), Edo will surely return above 30% (worst case scenario), and I heard Imo is returning above 25% as well. Plateau, Benue and possibly Rivers will complete the victory even if GMB doesn't win there.
Bro, you are a good analyst but poor politician. GEJ has already won this election. I ll send you a PM and we meet in Abuja. I like analytical minds to be in Government.
