Politics / Commissioner Calls For Public Input In 2022 Delta Budget by Theochuko: 7:01am On Sep 08, 2021
COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR PUBLIC INPUT IN 2022 DELTA BUDGET

By Mercy Obojeghren

Asaba, Sept. 7, 2021 (NAN)

The Delta Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Barry Gbe, has urged the people of Delta to engage their elected and appointed representatives in government to make inputs in the 2022 budget.

Gbe stated this at the citizen’s budgeting interactive virtual session in Asaba, hosted by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta on Civic Engagement and Civil Society.

The commissioner, who gave a brief overview of the intention of the state government on the proposed 2022 budget, noted that the focus was more on medium term planning, as against short term or annual budget planning.
He said that the legislature and the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) would also have key inputs in the budget and that the people should ensure that their representatives in government were truly representing them.

Gbe commended all those who attended the event and expressed the hope that such meetings could lead to the creation of the budget of the people, truly reflective of their yearnings.

In his remarks, Activist Rex Anighoro, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, said that the citizen’s budgeting process is a novel governance practice in Nigeria, adding that the state government must be commended for the Initiative.

Some Civil Society Organisations which attended the event called for the state government intervention in the areas of providing safe spaces for victims of gender based violence, subsidise sun-screen for albinos in state. They also advocated a budget line for the office of civic engagement and civil society as well as the programmes to drive Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the state.

They called for more private sector involvement by undertaking intervention projects since government cannot do it alone, and advocated for the urgent passage of the Delta State Corporate Social Responsibility bill. They said that the bill when passed would help compel the private sector to live up to their corporate social responsibilities in the state. They urged the SSA to the governor to extend similar invitations to other Commissioners and MDAs for robust engagement.

The event is aimed at bringing government closer to the people, and record the yearnings of citizens, especially their input and expectations for the year 2022 budget.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
Politics / Governor Okowa Champions Citizen's Budgeting by Theochuko: 11:33am On Sep 06, 2021
OKOWA COMMITTED TO ENSURING CITIZENS OPINION COUNTS IN THE MAKING OF DELTA STATE 2022 BUDGET

AS ACTIVIST ANIGHORO HOSTS DR. BARRY PERE GBE DELTA STATE COMMISSIONER FOR ECONOMIC PLANNING AT CITIZEN'S ENGAGEMENT EVENT

Putting the Delta State Government's open budget policy into action as a build up to the year 2022 budget preparation and approval, office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, as occupied by Activist Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro on Sunday 5th of September, hosted Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning to a citizens' engagement and interactive event tagged: "An evening with Dr Barry Pere Gbe ".

The virtual event which was massively attended by Deltans both home and in diaspora was an avenue to bring government closer to the people, and record the yearnings of citizens, especially their input and expectations for the year 2022 budget.

Activist Anighoro as the host, laid a solid foundation for the deliberations. He noted that this Citizen's budgeting process as driven by Dr Barry Pere Gbe, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning, was a novel governance practice in Nigeria, one which the Governor Okowa-led Delta State Government must be commended for.

Dr Barry Pere Gbe gave a brief overview of the intentions of the Delta State Government for the year 2022 budget, hinting that the focus was more on medium term planning, as against short term or annual budget planning.

An intense and highly interactive two hours of deliberations followed the commissioner's brief address. Citizen's opened - up and spoke on the needs of their respective communities. Civil Society organizations were not left out as they used the opportunity to advocate for government intervention in the areas of: providing safe spaces for victims of gender based violence, subsidizing sun-screen for albinos in Delta State to help protect them from skin cancer, creating a budget line for the office of civic engagement and civil society as well as the programs to drive ICT in Delta State.

Other citizens called for more private sector involvement to undertake intervention projects since government cannot do it alone, and advocated for the urgent passing of the Delta State Corporate Social Responsibility bill into law, as it will help spring the private sector into action to live up to their corporate social responsibilities in Delta State. Other prayers were for the discontinuation of State sponsored annual pilgrimages, and channeling those funds into causes for the greater good. Several attendees who spoke at the event, appreciated the initiative, commended the Honourable Commissioner for the openness, and called on Activist Anighoro to extend similar invitation to other Commissioners and MDAs for robust engagement.

Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Barry Pere Gbe, thanked all who made the time to attend and engage at this meeting, a process which he said will lead to the creation of a budget of the people, truly reflective of their yearnings.

Activist Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for the time spared to engage with the electorates. He also advised Deltans to ramp up the engagement with their elected and appointed representatives in government, so as to speedily get their requests added to the budget, noting that as Dr Barry Pere Gbe advised, the legislature and MDAs will also have key inputs in the budget, thus, the people must ensure that their representatives in government are truly representing them.
Politics / Re: Seven Months After Inauguration, Obaseki Yet To Form Cabinet by Theochuko: 8:04am On Jun 22, 2021
What's the use of forming a cabinet when he still had a case at the Supreme Court?

It's not up to a month the case was decided in his favor, so to me, his tenure started like a month ago.

However, he should have been prepared by now. In the next two months latest, if his cabinet isn't up a running then there's something fishy.

Career / My Office Madam Gave Me Strong Green Light Ooo by Theochuko: 5:57pm On Jun 06, 2021
Lost my job as logistics, vendor management and community liaison personnel due to Covid. Been trying to get a job at a multinational but, omo, it's like, it's easier for Arsenal to win the champions league o. No cap!

Got referred to an older lady in her early 60s who was floating a startup in Lekki. The pay was wayyyy less than what I was getting but, wetin man go do? Transportation alone done chop all the money but we meuve.

Two months into the job, Madam de always commend me say I de hardworking and all. She go de invite me to her family functions and all (which I do turn down politely).

Small time, when she knows there are important stuff to sign, she go say make i bring the document to her house on the way to work make she sign for morning.

On this faithful day, I carry documents go sign o. Madam say make i wait for dining area. I observe say the house help open door for me finish, she con go outside. But I no reason am. Omo, Madam came down fresh from the shower (how I like it actually-flesh and blood did not reveal that to her), white towel to her chest, but the base of the towel was high above her knees, revealing thick thighs like fresh foliage in the sun (J. P Clark).
My ikenga was rising to the occasion, but I protested. I must here add that madam could pass for someone in her late forties, perhaps due to her regular lawn tennis work outs.

I presented the documents and showed madam where to sign o. She stretched out one hand to collect my pen, whilst trying to use the other hand to keep her towel firmly placed.
Lo and behold, a side of the towel dropped, revealing a rather firm and fine 38 D cup specimen (one of cutest I've ever encountered, Walahi).
