2022 so far has been a year of massive trades. Last month, Elon Musk’s Twitter purchase shook the world in a $44bn cash deal.

Just over the weekend, the consortium of American billionaire investor and co-owner of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers, Todd Boehly purchased Chelsea Football Club in a deal of £4.25bn, Evening Standard reports.

The 46-year-old is the new owner Premier League side following the completion of the lingering takeover, replacing the club’s erstwhile owner, Roman Abramovich.

In a statement via the club’s official website, the European Champions on Saturday, May 7, 2022 maintained that they have agreed to new ownership led by the American billionaire Todd Boehly. According to the west London club statement on her website;

Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club.

The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time.

Todd Boehly is a familiar face in the American sports and movie industries. He became Chelsea‘s new owner on May 7, 2022.

Reports from major outlets in Kenya have it that Nigerian singer, Davido bailed on his Kenyan fans after failing to show up for a show in Nairobi. The highly anticipated East African show scheduled for May 21, 2022 was reportedly canceled by Davido’s management last week.

Kenyan fans who have been in pomp and pageantry over the Kenyan tour of the African Popstar were left disappointed after Davido’s lawyer, Prince announced no Kenyan trip for the singer anytime soon.

“Kenya show? A different Davido. Really hope no one is out there purchasing tickets,” Ajudua tweeted.


The cancellation of the show was also confirmed by Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, who said the star’s management was not aware of any booking for the mentioned date.

However, an investigation by Kenyan media outfit, Sunday Nation, revealed that an agreed deal fell through may have broken down following the performance fee charged by Davido’s management.

“2incentertainment reached out to Davido management and a contract was sent to them on what was required of them. They were supposed to pay an advance to book him and were given a deadline of April 26, which elapsed without them depositing a dime,” the tabloid wrote.

“Being a highly sought-after artist, booking Davido involves making an advance cash deposit, which 2incentertainment did not have. That’s why they were asked to bring down the fliers they had put up.

“What proved to be the main hurdle for 2incentainment was the staggering amount Davido was asking. With a short notice ahead of the event, the organisers did not have a chance to raise the booking fees asked by Davido, and still have a chance to recoup their money, let alone make a profit.

“They clearly lacked strategies on how they could possibly exploit to the maximum such an opportunity. They did not even have a single sponsor on board by the time they reached out to him.

“When 2incentertainment contacted Davido’s team, the Skelewu hitmaker charged the promoters $300,000 (Sh35 million) for the show.

“Davido and his team billed them $250,000 as his performance fees while the extra $50,000 was to cater for his private jet and the Kenyan firm could not raise such an amount within the short time they had,” the Sunday Nation wrote.

Taking to social media, the movie star said “Kola Ademola definitely affected me more than I care to admit and it took months to get to a semblance of normalcy.”

Deyemi also noted that he caught himself going against his standards as he empathized with ‘abusers’ he believes should be condemned to damnation.

‘Blood Sisters’ is a four-part Netflix Show directed by Biyi Bandele and Kenneth Gyang and produced by Mo Abudu’s Ebony Life Studios.

Set in Lagos, “Blood Sisters” encapsulates the life of two best friends Sarah (Ini Dima-Okojie), and Kemi (Nancy Isime). The pair became fugitives after Kemi accidentally kills Sarah’s groom hours before her engagement party.

On Ayra Starr’s Journey to Stardom

Right before catching the attention of label boss Don Jazzy in December 2019, Ayra Starr disclosed that she was troubled. After dropping covers of popular songs which made her popular, Ayra Starr dropped an original track on her Instagram page. A track that gave her the big break she’d always envisaged.

”the song I wrote and I was about to release was talking about a dark period in my life I just lost my dad it was very easy as a teenager for you to doubt everything. I didn’t want to release a track I recorded because it was too personal but I did and guess who was calling me? Don jazzy.”

He was like “we need to meet up at the studio, just call me” and the rest was history. We met at the studio with my brother. The songs we recorded that day were on my EP, two songs on my EP.

Speaking about her new show, Blood Sisters, where she played Kemi, the character involved in manslaughter, Nancy said:

Embodying Kemi was interesting. She is such a strong powerhouse and knows what she wants despite her young age. She is just a girl who is family-oriented and also the kind of best friend who is ready to kill for you, literally. I enjoyed her taking over my role for the few weeks we filmed.

Look out for the blood, the gory, the horror, the twist, and just look out for the girls. It’s so funny because I feel like a lot of people would feel sympathetic towards the girls and be on their side the entire series. That’s something I want to see; are you on the side of the girls or against them?

Speaking on the topic of manslaughter, a topic which the show touches on, Nancy said:

It depends on the scenario. Sometimes it’s self-defence. So, for a man slaughtered, of course, killing a person is never right. But there are scenarios where the person was defending himself. But that’s not my part to tell. The court will always dig into it and see what it is

Speaking about her decision to shave her head and keep a low cut as her signature style, Nancy said:

I was hot one day and decided it was time to cut my hair, but I cut it to wear wigs comfortably. After cutting it, I was like, ‘See, babe, oh!’. Deciding to push the envelope further, I met up with my barber, tried a few hair colours, and Voila, a signature look, was born.

According to reports, the Board of Twitter is close to accepting Elon Musk’s $43 billion bid to take the social media giant private.

This development comes after Elon Musk became the majority shareholder of the platform purchasing just under 10% stake in the company. To strengthen his cause for a full takeover, the world’s wealthiest man reportedly met with several shareholders to review the modalities of his $54.20 per share bid for Twitter. This led to several shareholders contacting Twitter’s Board to seriously consider Musk’s offer.

What this could mean for Twitter

Musk has been a loud and vocal critic of Twitter’s approach toward free speech and content censoring. The self-suggested free speech absolutist has made it known on multiple occasions that he supports more unbridled expression on Twitter as long as it is within the parameters of the law and not within the administrative whims of the platform.

Under Musk’s leadership, Twitter’s content moderation rules are expected to be relaxed, as it has been levied especially by conservatives that Twitter’s liberal bias has contributed to the decline of coherent discourse on the platform.

It is predicted by pundits that censored conservative voices, including past president Donald Trump may be offered an olive branch to return to the platform, although the American Businessman cum politician has stated his intention to not return to the app.

What it means for Nigeria’s Upcoming Elections

In June 2021, the Presidency in Nigeria indefinitely suspended Twitter’s operations and ordered the country’s mobile networks and internet providers to block access to the platform, for a “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

The suspension occurred shortly after Twitter deleted a tweet from President Buhari that it said was in contravention of its rules. Nigeria went on to lift the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria on 13th January 2022 under stringent conditions for twitter, which are expected to be reviewed, given management change and Musk’s ideals towards free speech.

The Buhari administration has had a storied history with social media, and despite using it as a stepping stone to his presidency, he had been criticized for his authoritarianism over information on social media platforms.

Buhari’s administration has been riddled by a battle of information, prominent of which was the protest against the now-disbanded police anti-robbery squad and the aftermath of the shooting of protesters at the Lagos Lekki tollgate in October 2020, both of which drew global outrage and were combatted by government claims that events were not as grievous as reported.

It is fascinating to see how a free speech motivated Musk Twitter will fare in Nigeria’s 2023 electoral clime.

Will its absolutist approach toward free speech amplify any and all criticisms against the government, leading government to once again regulate social media activity on the platform, citing undermining of corporate existence?

Will contentious issues and possible misinformation be left uncensored in the name of free speech?, will the app permit wrong reporting of election results or claims of fraud, substantiated or otherwise?

Will Twitter of its own volition close operations in Nigeria, in the event censorious legislation, is passed in Nigeria that doesn’t align with its free speech policy?

All of these questions or scenarios and twitter’s possible response to them are just like the app’s likely new owner – very unpredictable.

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reacted to the popular Nigerian song entitled Ali by budding singer, Steven Adeoye.

The track that went viral on the popular video-sharing app, TikTok contains lyrics that depict the life of fraud and Nigerians somehow seem to resonate with the sound and lyrics.

In a bid to be satirical, the anti-graft agency has taken to social media to throw a remix of the song that serves as a caveat to young folks who indulge in 'Yahoo', a Nigerian gland for financial crimes.

Killers of the makeup artist whose dead body was found days after going missing late last year have finally been found. Recall Ijeoma Neke, a makeup artist with Instagram handle @wake_n_makeup, was declared missing on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, after she left home for a job.

According to reports, she requested to know the venue where she was to do the job but was simply instructed to meet the prospective client at a bus stop. After the "client" picked her up and was taking her to the venue, she reportedly sensed something was amiss and texted the client's number to her brother but that happened to be her last action on earth.

New reports reaching us have it that the killers have been arrested and arraigned in court. Two siblings Ifezue Chiamaka and Ifezue Emeka have been arraigned at a Magistrate’s Court in Enugu for the murder a makeup artist, Ijeoma Nweke.

According to reports, Chiamaka and her brother killed Ijeoma for having an affair with her boyfriend. During the hearing, it was revealed that Chiamaka lured Ijeoma by inviting her for a make up job.

On getting there and suspecting foul play, Ijeoma quickly sent an SOS message to a friend, before forced to drink a poisoned substance. The two siblings went on to pour substance said to be acid on the Ijeoma. An eyewitness who was also present in the court revealed that he witnessed as Emeka Ifezue poured acid on the body of Ijeoma after they dumped her corpse at Maryland axis of Enugu Metropolis.

Also present in court was the boyfriend who was willing to testify against the two siblings. The case was adjoined to February 24th, 2021.

Nollywood actress, Destiny Etiko has finally laid the remains of her father, John Etiko to rest on Friday, 22nd, May. The script interpreter took to her Instagram page to share a video of the pallbearers bringing her father's corpse into their family house in Enugu for the final rites of passage.

A South African lady has shared a sad story of how a 17-year-old teenager impregnated his 15 and 13 years old sisters.

According to the narrator identified as Rose Berry on Twitter, the 3 siblings were home alone throughout the lockdown that lasted for five weeks in South Africa as their mom was an essential worker.

“This 17 y/o boy impregnated his two younger sisters� Their mom is an essential worker so she was working so they started sleeping together since lockdown. Mommy saw the 15 y/o has pregnancy symptoms then investigated only to find out the father is her son to add the 13 y/o is also pregnant. The son admitted that he was sleeping with both his siblings then he ran away from home.”  Rose said

A court in Asaba has ordered the Department of State Services to pay the sum of 10million in damages to a trader Anthony Okolie who was arrested and detained for 10 weeks for using a former SIM card of the President’s daughter, Hanan Buhari.

Okolie, in a suit filed before the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, by his lawyer, Tope Akinyode, also demanded N500m from Hanan Buhari, the daughter of the President, Major General Muhammadu (retd.), as well as a telecommunications company, MTN.

The suit, with number FHC/ASB/CS/3/2020, is seeking an order to “compel the respondents (DSS, Hanan and MTN) jointly or severally to pay the applicant the sum of N500,000,000 only as general and aggravated damages for the gross and unlawful violation of the applicant’s right to acquire moveable properties, freedom of movement and self dignity.”

Tope Akinyode took to his Twitter page on Thursday afternoon that the court has resolved to slamming a 10million Naira damages on the DSS to be paid to Anthony.

Dr Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, leader of the Presidential Task Force Committee on COVID-19, has said that the virus was the cause of the mysterious deaths recorded in Kano State in recent days.

Gwarzo, who spoke on Sunday, said the recent deaths from the test carried out established that COVID-19 was the cause.

He said, “Let me inform us that most of the deaths recorded of recent and test carried out showed that Coronavirus was the cause.

"So, before the final report which would be ready in the next one week or few days, it is necessary for people of Kano to wake up from their slumber that this is a serious issue.

“It is not a new thing, countries like America, China, Italy, Spain, England, France and others experienced similar mysterious deaths.”

There have been concerns about the COVID-19 cases and the increasing deaths in the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari had during the week gave a matching order to the Gwarzo-led Presidential Task Force to unravel the cause of the mysterious deaths in Kano and also to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
