A Nigerian nurse identified as Ubangha Blessing Ubi has reacted to the viral video of Rico Swavey's unconscious body left unattended to by healthcare givers in a hospital now identified as Doren Specialist Hospital in Ajah.

You will recall there was outcry following the video of Rico Swavey battling for his life as nurses laugh and recorded him. The BBNaija star died on October 13, 2022, from injuries suffered in a ghastly car crash.

Reacting to the video, a nurse identified as Ubangha Blessing Ubi on Facebook has said the viral reports are misleading and it was the security officials that were recording not the nurses as stipulated.

According to her, the nurses on duty were just made the scapegoats by the public meanwhile, they were the ones stopping the persons who rushed Rico Swavey to the hospital from recording.

Blessing, although not in the video, vouched for the competence of the nurses under fire.

Nigerian singer, Daniel Benson, otherwise known as Buju (BNXN) is reportedly a recent victim of police brutality.

In a video brewing to go viral, the singer could be seen in a faceoff with men of the Nigeria Police force in an undisclosed location.

The video recorded by a passerby shows the moment a black Mercedes Benz with deflated tyres said to be the singer’s vehicle was double-crossed by a police vehicle. A perturbed Buju was recorded shirtless while engaging the officers who’d stopped him for a yet-to be-reported reason.

Three things are promised in life, Death, Taxes, and unrequited love in Big Brother Naija’s house.

Romance is a major draw for the viewers of Africa’s biggest reality show. Big Brother Naija’s audience religiously fawn over and anticipate the initial attraction between housemates, followed by the companionship and eventually the co-dependency that typically defines romantic relationships in the house.

In a bid to gain immediate and mass acceptance from the viewers, the majority of the reality show’s contestants play into the expectations of the audience by strategically entering romantic entanglements popularly referred to as “ships”.


For other housemates, these feelings are developed organically due to the hyper proximity with other contestants as opposed to strategic intentions.

When these feelings are mutual and reciprocated, the ensuing relationships that form could lead to satisfying outcomes for the housemates both in and outside the house.

Housemates like Bambam and Teddy A, as well as Khafi and Gedoni found marital success off their ships on the show; while in a less dramatic fashion, Miracle and Nina, Neo and Vee exploited their relationship to earn their spots in the finals of their respective seasons.

On the flip side, when these feelings are one-sided and unrequited, it leads to unnecessary tensions and loss of focus.

Ozo and Nengi’s “Ozone” ship is perhaps the most painful example of unrequited feelings on the show. For the majority of that season, Ozo persistently expressed romantic feelings for Nengi while she preferred to remain platonic.

For many viewers, Ozo’s constant but unrequited advances played a part in his failure to make the finals. It is popular opinion that if Ozo an early favorite of that season had moved on early from his romantic quagmire, the same way Laycon seemed to put his Erica episode behind him, and not let failed romance define his stay in the house then he would have gone farther than he did or even gone on to challenge for the grand prize.


Fast forward to two seasons after, there seems to be a ship sailing a similar route.

At the infant stages of the season, Sheggz currently stands as one of the overwhelming favorites, attracting the respect of men and the desire of women.

In fact, at his unveiling, many viewers predicted him to be the playboy of the house but the footballer’s goal seemed to shift from winning the game to winning the affections of fellow housemate, Bella.

Bella like Nengi has made her intentions plain on remaining platonic with Sheggz, at least for the time being, however, this has not deterred Sheggz from pressing, sometimes to the mild irritation of his love interest.

The trap for Sheggz currently lies in the audience’s response to unrequited attachments.

Female contestants stuck in one-sided entanglements are met with empathy while male housemates attract criticism.

When Alex of season 3 and Liquorose of season 7 were engaged in seemingly unrequited entanglements (or at least the energy was widely perceived to be unmatched) with Leo and Emmanuel respectively, the audience viewed them as victims of circumstance and expressed pity, while in the case of Tobi, Saga, and Ozo, the audience was not so empathetic.


The problem with unrequited relationships is their unsustainability with the viewers who are going to naturally gravitate to other exciting ships. Once the CeeC and Tobi ship seemed too laborious, viewers focused their attention on the more organic Miracle/Nina and Teddy/BamBam Ship.

Currently, the brewing ships of Beauty/Groovy and Daniella/Khalid are beginning to garner more headlines and attention than the Bella and Sheggz ship. This is bad news for Sheggz and if he decides to base his entire house persona around this unfulfilling ship, as interest in the relationship dies, so will his approval rating with the audience.

If Sheggz aims to go all the way in the competition, he needs to find himself and build an identity outside of his ship with Bella. Otherwise, just like in the case of Ozo, when the audience can do without the ship or when he is up for eviction against similarly strong housemates, he would be cut off earlier than anticipated.

FIRST DIARY SESSION

The Level Up housemates participated in their first diary session for the season.

The sessions went from playful requests, like Phyna asking Big Brother for filters for when she cooked rice and Groovy pleading for the AC temperatures to be reduced to laborious monologues from Beauty.

Other housemates used the opportunity to access the threat levels of fellow housemates as well as the competition from the opposing levels.

Singer, Tems, has apparently confirmed that her mum is the actress in an old tv commercial for a popular seasoning.

She said so in a tweet dating back to 2018 which is a part of a series old posts recently unearthed by fans.

The then 27-year-old replied to a joke about the commercial which was popular on Nigerian tv in the 90s, writing: ‘Lmao, my mum!’ (See Link below for video)

Tems recently became one of the few Nigerian artistes with songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her song, ‘Free Mind’ debuted at number 90 on the chart.

Her previous entries are ‘Essence with Wizkid and Justin Bieber which debuted at number 82 and went on to peak at number 9, ‘Fountains’ with Drake which peaked at number 26 and Future’s Wait for You which peaked at number 1.

‘Wait for You’ makes her the first Nigerian artiste to debut at number one on the chart while she is now tied with Wizkid as the Nigerian artistes with the most entries on the chart.

This comes after it was confirmed that she will be on the soundtrack for the Marvel movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which comes out in November. She is also credited on track 10 of Beyonce’s sixth studio album, Renaissance, which comes out on July 29.

Big Brother Naija housemate, Eloswag has emerged as the first Head of House in the Level Up edition.

This was announced after the BBNaija housemates had their first Head of House games on Monday evening.

The Level 1 and Level 2 housemates converged to play the HoH games in the arena and Eloswag became the best performing housemate.

Following his performance, Big Brother announced him as the first Head of House for the season.

House 1 meets House 2

There was a convergence of the Level one and level two housemates for the Head of House challenge as the 24 housemates were under the same roof for the first time since the launch weekend.

Before the start of the games, Big Brother explained how the housemates happened to be in separate houses in the game.

Before the launch, two housemates were paired and each had their names written on two cards, a black-and-white card and a multi-coloured card.

Housemates whose names were on the black-and-white card were the House 2 candidates who made it into the house on the Launch day 2 while those whose names were on the multi-coloured cards were the first housemates to be unveiled on Saturday.

Head of House Games

There were two phases to the HoH games. The first stage involved all of the housemates, while the second step only involved the top five.

According to Biggie, the game's victor will be crowned HoH and automatically spare his or her fellow Level (1 or 2) housemates from potential eviction.

Head of House privileges

As Head of House, Eloswag enjoys bragging right as the first ever Head of House for the season.

He also enjoys immunity from possible eviction at the end of the week.

With his emergence, Eloswag has saved the Level 1 housemates from possible eviction. Although these the perks attached to being the HOH, there are no nominations for possible eviction this week – Invariably, Elosawag is a ceremonial HOH.

So I had a rewatch of the 2020 Nollywood movie, Who's The Boss, starring two trending personalities at the moment, Funke Akindele and Blossom Chukwujekwu.

The Netflix movie directed by Chinaza Onuzo covers the story of a young but overworked ad executive played by Sharon Ooja with an overbearing boss (Funke Akindele), a reality of many young persons earning a living in corporate Lagos.

With the lingering 'horrible boss' chatters from those who have worked with the Nollywood sweetheart, it is hard to shake off her role in the movie – Funke Akindele acted out the accounts of multiple persons who have narrated what it's like working with her. Not taking away the fact that the multiple award-winning actress killed the role.

Let's give it to Funke, maintaining an acting career for over 3 decades is no easy feat to be overlooked and as the popular parlance will have it, Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

You can't maintain excellence at that level for a long time without having to step on some toes – The question here is how many toes has Funke Akindele stepped on to become the icon that she is today?

Funke is able to build herself around characters that she's working with and I have to say she's one of the most, if not the most hardworking person I have come across in this entertainment industry. This woman, as we're on set, she's writing the next episode, she's directing. Ha!"

Lota Chukwu - Good

Nollywood actress, Lota Ckukwu is another star who gained popularity for her role in Jenifa's Dairy from 2015 to 2018. Lota played the role of Kiki, a friend to Jenifa, the lead character.

On why she left the show, the 32-year-old in an interview with Pulse TV said: ”Funke Akindele is our mother on set. She is very attentive to the individual needs of everyone. The relationship I have with her is kind off the same . Jenifa is someone who loves to care for everybody, and of-f set it’s the same”.

Tobi Makinde - Good

The budding actor, Tobi Makinde rose into prominence for his Timini role in Jenifa's Diary. Timini is the personal assistant to Jenifa, the lead character and it appears their relationship have gone beyond the screens.

Tobi on an Instagram page adulated Funke saying:

“A river that forgets its source will surely dry up. I remember when I had no idea how I was gonna move on in life after my masters degree, you were there to take me in with little or no experience whatsoever about running production. You said you would give me a job without knowing me from anywhere, without knowing my capabilities. All I had was my educational qualification and thirst to work and learn on the job.

"Prior to this I had tried to work in other production outfits but none took me not because I wasn’t qualified but because they probably didn’t believe in me. Two days after Nollywood actor, Gbenga Richard died, the Nigerian movie industry lost another gem in actor, Leo Mezie who gave up the ghost on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Actress Chioma Toplis confirmed Leo’s passing on Monday afternoon. She said he died while recovering from a kidney transplant.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia his hometown. RIP Leo.”


7-Years Battle With Kidney Disease


The actor’s ailment was first reported in 2016 when word got out that he was down with kidney-related disease. Leo Mezie solicited £60,000 for treatment in the UK from the public but only N1.2million was raised.

The actor later came out to announce that Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries sponsored his medical trip and treatment in London. He also announced that he was advised not to go for a transplant.

Leo Mezie was back on his feet again after a successful surgery. He squealed to Inside Nollywood about how he had given up all hopes to live until God gave him a second chance.

“After a series of prayers, the kidneys that were diagnosed and confirmed damaged began to pick up and heal. In the long run, I didn’t have to go through any transplants; the doctors were amazed at the sudden transformation, which could be done by only God.

A Relapse Happened


Tragedy struck again in 2019 as Leo Mezie suffered a relapse and needed an urgent transplant. His brother, Tony Mezie told Premium Times that the actor best known for his roles in the 2003 movie ‘Labista’, needed the sum of N20,000,000 for an immediate kidney transplant.

He said, “Leo is currently receiving dialysis treatment at a Lagos hospital. The ailment resurfaced when he went to the United Kingdom for checks last year. A relapse occurred about 11 months ago and we are doing our best to ensure that he gets urgent medical attention.

“He undergoes dialysis thrice a week, and one session cost about N45, 000. Leo needs a minimum of N20m to undergo treatment and transplant.”

Tony also informed the Newspaper that the Actors Guild of Nigeria was organizing a fundraiser on Leo’s behalf. Efforts made by the industry governing body yielded a cash donation of N3 million from Warri-based Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyi to the actor towards his medical treatment on March 31, 2019.

The cleric in his usual manner made the donation at an event in his church. Nollywood actors, Chinwe Owoh, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and AGN president, Emeka Rollas, were reported to be present at the occasion.

News from the actor went dark for a few years till his death from a kidney-related issue was announced on Monday. He was said to have been recovering after getting the transplant done more than 6-years later.

Born Mezie Onyemachi Leonard, Leo Mezie died at the age of 46 and has been divorced for more than 4-years before his death.

Martial arts movie star, Jackie Chan has revealed why he stopped appearing in Hollywood movies. The Asian actor was so good that you could randomly pick up a cd of his movies and you’d end up with a good pick.

Some of his most notable roles in Hollywood include action-comedy, Rush Hour 1-3, co-starring with American actor, Chris Tucker, a more dramatic Karate Kid movie, and most recent 2017’s The Foreigner. In 2016, Jackie Chan received an honorary Oscar for his decades of work in Hollywood, making him the first Asian actor to win the award.

The 68-year-old action movie icon has however stopped taking Hollywood roles despite still being active in the Hong Kong movies scene.

In a recent interview with Filmelier obtained from Todayonline, Jackie explained why he hasn’t been appearing in Hollywood films as of late.

“After [2010’s] Karate Kid, I received a lot of scripts but the roles were always … a cop from the Hongkong police,” he said, adding that while he has been focusing on the Chinese market, he has “never left the United States”. It’s just because he hasn’t been able to “find the right script.”

He shared that he wants to play more diverse roles across different genres, which is why it took seven years before he did The Foreigner, in which he plays an immigrant restaurant owner in search of revenge after his daughter is killed in a terrorist attack.

“I want to make sure audiences see the different sides of Jackie Chan. I want audiences to see me as an actor who can do action, not just as an action star,” he said. “I don’t like to repeat myself.”

However, this doesn’t mean he is completely zoning out on action comedies. The action start might continue to do them in the future, as long as he can work in other genres too and not get stuck in the stereotype.

Nigerians are still in disbelief over the killing of Deborah Samuel, a 200 level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.

It was reported that a student riots ensued over Samuel for making snide remarks about the the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on a student WhatsApp group.

Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar in a statement on Thursday said students retrieved Ms. Samuel from a security room where she was kept for safety and stoned and burned her to death.

The news has since sent the Nigerian media space into frenzy as netizens heavily condemn the gruesome act. A photo fast circulating social media shows the remains of Deborah Samuel after she was set ablaze by an irate mob on Thursday afternoon.

Police in Sokoto state have swung into action after receiving a distress call from the tertiary institution, Daily Post reports.

Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar gave an update in a statement Thursday evening.

Nigerian singing sensation, Stanley Omah Didia, professionally known as Omah Lay was spotted with Barcelona stars, Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati after a La Liga match last night.

Omah Lay, currently on his World Tour, stopped at Camp Nou to watch Barcelona vs Celta Vigo match on Tuesday night. And after the home team won 3-1, the singer met up with the La Masia wonder kid, Ansu Fati, and French forward, Ousmane Dembele on their way home.
