A man identified as Mallam Umar Tasiu has been beaten to death by his former in-laws in Minna, Niger State.

The incident happened when Umar Tasiu went to see his two kids who were staying with his former wife in her father’s house.

A source who spoke with the Daily Post on the incident said, “He went to see them and his former in-laws who didn’t want him to come to their house tied and flogged him until he died in their house.”

A Nigerian woman has welcomed nonuplets (9 babies) after 25 years of marriage with no children of her own.

Reports making the round on social media rounds on social media revealed that the woman, known as Obianuju Anthonia Ibeanu, had been married for over two decades without having any children.

Fortunately for her, the God of Babies blessed her with 9 children to compensate for all the years she had remained childless.

Photos making the rounds on social media show Mrs. Ibeanu sitting at the edge of the bed with her nine babies.

Nonuplets are extremely rare. The first recorded case of nine babies at once was on June 13, 1971, when an Australian woman gave birth to five boys and four girls (two boys were stillborn). The remaining seven infants died within a week.

President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that plans are underway for his administration to roll out the Student Loan Scheme in January 2024.

The Lagos State government has shut down the Alaba International Market over poor waste disposal, failure to pay waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offenses.

The Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known on Monday via his official X account.

According to the Commissioner, the shutdown of the popular market in Lagos was supervised by the operatives of the Nigerian police in the state. Former professional footballer, George Abbey, has ruled out the chances of the Super Eagles winning the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Port Harcourt-born player believes that Nigeria is not ready to add to its AFCON title winnings with the current group of players in the squad.

An unknown number of people have been reportedly killed as an Israeli military strike hit a church compound in Gaza in an attempt to capture Hamas terrorists in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The Hamas-controlled interior ministry confirmed the latest strike by the Israeli military, stating that several displaced people sheltering at the worship center were affected by the Thursday attack.

The strike left a “large number of martyrs and injured” at the compound of the Greek Orthodox Saint Porphyrius Church in Gaza City, the ministry said in a press release.

AFP quoted witnesses saying that the airstrike seemed to have been directed towards a location adjacent to the place of worship. The church had become a sanctuary for numerous Gaza inhabitants amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), when contacted, revealed to the media that their fighter jets had targeted a command and control centre responsible for launching rockets and mortars toward Israel.

“As a result of the IDF strike, a wall of a church in the area was damaged,” it said, adding, “We are aware of reports on casualties. The incident is under review.”

It was further gathered that the Israeli strike damaged the facade of the church and caused an adjacent building to collapse. Many injured people were evacuated to a hospital.

Saint Porphyrius is the oldest church still in use in Gaza and is located in the city’s historic neighborhood.

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said that he doesn’t know who the Big Brother Naija star Phyna is.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the report from the National Bureau of Statistics, (NBS), which placed inflation at 26.72% in September.

The cause of the inflation spike, according to NBS, was due to increases in prices of oil and fat, bread and cereals, potatoes, yam and other tubers, fish, fruit, meat, vegetables, and milk, cheese, and eggs.

Speaking with Vanguard over the development, PDP asserted that the NBS report simply confirmed how unprepared President Bola Tinubu’s administration is for the task of governance.

A renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri, has called on lawmakers to pass a law compelling civil servants on Level 12 to take additional wives.

Waziri lamented that there are so many women available within the society who need husbands and urged men to take them as wives.

The cleric made the call in his Friday sermon at Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State.

According to him, despite the availability of women, men, especially those who have married, are not taking a second wife.

Fuel stations under the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) stations were the only ones noticeably open in parts of Lagos and Abuja during the weekend.

This has raised concerns that petrol scarcity may have resurfaced as several oil marketers have closed their outlets to motorists and other buyers.

Several people were reportedly trapped on a highway after a tanker full of petrol exploded in the Sari Iganmu area of Lagos State.

World Athletics (WA) has unveiled the names of nominees for Women’s Athlete of the Year 2023, and Nigerian track and field athlete Tobi Amusan, is missing from the list.

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has filed his Notice of Appeal before the Court of Appeal.

Vivour is challenging the decision of the State Governorship Tribunal which upheld the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Catholic Church in Benin, Edo State has issued an edict that could lead to the beatification and canonization of the late teenager Vivian Ogu.

Ogu was shot dead on November 15, 2009, by armed men for resisting their attempts to rape her after robbing her family.

The issuance of the edict was to allow petitions for or against her activities while alive that would be further subjected to a tribunal trial. Following this, the leadership of the Catholic Church would reach a decision on whether she could become a saint.
