CareerRe: I Want To Spend Money On My Employees But Nigeria Is Making It Hard by TheRealSage: 12:22am On May 03, 2024
islovehard:
I have some folks working with me. We recently created an 'employee of the month' type program and we'll love to pre-purchase things like cinema tickets, concert tickets, grocery vouchers, hotel stays, food vouchers etc...to be used as prizes every month. Can anyone recommend any platform that makes this easy. Please don't mention SureGifts cos I'm tired of them. Alternatively, do you know if some of these apps like Chowdeck and Bolt allow us pre-pay and create a company promo code that can be redeemed by staff? I'd appreciate any referrals or insights.
Yes Chowdeck can do this; you can send an email to sales@chowdeck.com or hello@chowdeck.com to get started.

Webmasters3 Cloud Hosting Services You Should Try, For Free! by TheRealSage(op): 10:21am On Nov 10, 2015
Let’s be frank (no donga), we all like getting things for free, and cloud hosting is no different. The IAAS/PAAS (Infrastructure(Platform)-As-A-Service providers listed below, like most other, offer some free cloud hosting to encourage you to get acquainted with their platforms. And some services actually remain free indefinitely.
Without much ado, here they are:

Amazon Web Services Free Tier

Amazon is probably the biggest cloud computing service provider in the world. Amazon Web Services offer a wide range of infrastructure services and many of them include a free usage offer. The AWS Free Tier is designed to enable you to get hands-on experience with AWS Cloud Services. The AWS Free Tier includes services with a free tier available for 12 months following your AWS sign-up date.
All you have to do to get this is Sign up for an AWS account although you have to enter your card details, I tried it with Diamond Bank Visa Debit Card and it works. After signing up you can immediately deploy web software like WordPress and the likes or stacks like the MEAN Stack or even entire OSes depending on what you require.

OpenShift RedHat

Openshift, owned by RedHat is another cloud computing services company which offers free cloud hosting for your apps. Openshift offers these in what it calls “gears”. When you sign up, you get three small basic gears for free – enough to create three entire web applications complete with private database instances. Each gear is entitled to 1GB of space, Openshift gears re free forever nless you use more than the allocated space. You also get one click deployment for your favourite apps and stacks. You can sign up here to give it a try, your card detail are not required.

Heroku

Heroku is a cloud hosting company which also offers a free service, when you sign up for a Heroku account, it gives you access to a free “dyno”, which is like a “gear” mentioned above. Each dyno has a RAM of 512MB. You can host an app or your choice, in any stack of your choice in that dyno. Heroku is typically used from the Git command line. Apps hosted on the Heroku free dyno can stay online forever provided they do not use more than 512M RAM and are online for a maximum of 18 hours daily. Try it out by signing up here.

PhonesHuawei Usurps Xiaomi To Become China's Leading Phone Maker by TheRealSage(op): 11:38am On Oct 24, 2015
Huawei became the biggest smartphone vendor in China in the third quarter, according to estimates from research firm Canalys, unseating the dominant Xiaomi from the top spot.

It’s the first time Huawei has taken the No. 1 position and comes at a challenging time for vendors targeting Chinese consumers. The country is now saturated with smartphones and the market for such devices has been slowing since earlier this year.

“Huawei’s ascent to China’s smartphone throne is a remarkable feat, especially in the context of an increasingly cutthroat and maturing Chinese smartphone market,” according to Canalys analyst Jessie Ding.

Xiaomi is meanwhile “under tremendous pressure” to reach its worldwide target of selling 80 million smartphones in 2015. To do so it has to ramp up sales in markets outside of China, in particular in India and Brazil. They have also enlisted distributors, Mobile In Africa Ltd to expand their reach to Africa.

Science/TechnologyNCC Challenges Investors To Key Into Nigeria's Ever Growing Telecoms Sector by TheRealSage(op): 5:37pm On Oct 23, 2015
The leadership of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have called on local and foreign investors to key in to its economy as the telecoms sector prepares for another quarter of growth.

According to NCC, the sector has recorded an 11 percent gain in the total number of active internet subscriptions on the domestic mobile communications network in the last quarter.

While GSM operators exhibit higher growth rates than CDMA companies, stakeholders attribute the increase in market share to the flourishing investments in technology carried out by major telecoms operators.

“This a good trajectory for the ICT sector,” says Paul Midy, chief executive officer of Jovago.com. “It shows that the market is ready for strategic foreign direct investments. With the greater adoption of internet services, businesses can now make direct contact with consumers through e-commerce, generate high revenue and accelerate the growth of the Nigerian eco-system as a whole and these are key metrics investors are looking for.”

The NCC further stated that with Nigeria’s teledensity at 107.67 percent and counting based on a calculated national population of 140 million, the prospects for expansion are immense.

PhonesFacebook To Beam Free Internet To Africa by TheRealSage(op): 2:16pm On Oct 07, 2015
Facebook is teaming up with the French satellite company Eutelsat to launch a satellite that will provide internet access to people in sub-Saharan Africa. The satellite will launch next year and service will start in the second half of 2016. It will reach 14 countries in West, East and Southern Africa.

Facebook will use the satellite to bring free Internet access to rural areas. The company is using satellites, lasers and drones to get the “next billion” people around the world online as part of its Internet.org initiative. It has already connected people in nearly 20 countries.

“Facebook’s mission is to connect the world and we believe that satellites will play an important role in addressing the significant barriers that exist in connecting the people of Africa,” said Chris Daniels, VP of Internet.org, in a statement.
Facebook and Eutelsat are leasing the AMOS-6 satellite from Israeli company Spacecom. The two companies will share the satellite and use it for their own individual services. Eutelsat will expand its paid broadband connections in the region for businesses and well-off individuals.
Earlier this year, Facebook unveiled a new custom drone it is building to bring internet to hard-to-reach and underserved locations. Other companies are also racing to bring low-cost, low-bandwidth Internet to the world. Google is working on Project Loon which uses hot air balloons.
