The Police should equally get some of the mob that burnt the two buses of innocent people and spread the lie that the men were members of the DSS and prosecute them in court. It was bad enough that such a very unfortunate event happened, adding innocent people to the casualty list is lawlessness that should not be tolerated.
Police must get to the bottom of everything that happened and ensure that they get his family justice too.

Government need to pay 3.7 trillion in subsides as at last year, they could only pay less than 500 million.
There is your problem. Lets even agree the subsidy paid is enough, the funds govt have invested in power sector since 1999 .. does it reflect any progress Money invested may not be enough, but that does not mean progress no go dey ... but with phcn we are even still struggling to generate 3000 megawatt what we had in 1999 if i need 1 million to renovate a house, even if naa 300k i give engr e suppose do something wey go depict progress .. haba ! |

Politics › Re: FG Warns Saboteurs As Power Generation Rises To 4,800MW by theredaddy: 9:26am On May 03, 2024 |
nairalanda1: But
1. Service no dey reflect charges. We are paying 70 naira or less for something that cost 184 naira.
2. Subsidy is not enough. Government needs to be paying 3.7 trillion naira at least every year to cover resulting losses Bro you need to understand the meaning of subsidy and the essence. You say subsidy is not enough, all the funds govt have invested in the power sector as it reflect any change, when you are investing in something n you are not seeing an improvement will you be encouraged to do more .. Phcn is being run like creditors just want to recoup their money and nothing more ... these are not good signs for us at all you want to eat you must work the work .. |
Politics › Re: FG Warns Saboteurs As Power Generation Rises To 4,800MW by theredaddy: 9:05am On May 03, 2024 |
nairalanda1: I wish it was a lie.
But at the moment, the cost reflective tarrif is 184 naira per kWh. 80% of consumers pay below 75 naira per kWh
That means losses of 110 naira per kWh of power sold. To cover the losses, government has to pay a subsidy of 3.7 trillion naira or more
We are paying for darkness because we aren't paying enough for 24/7 light
Would you run your business at a loss to help the poor.
That's why you buy transformers and poles and wires. You ain't paying enough for the disco to buy them in the first place If you acknowledge govt is paying subsidy then what is the essence of the subsidy if you insist there is a LOSS. Is subsidy not meant to cover up loss .. or is govt paying. that talk of losing 110 per/kwh is INVALID abeg Nigerians are paying for darkness becos of embezzlement and diversion of funds call it "corruption" ... I insist service should reflect charges, if i enter a barber shop n the charge is 50k ... i must see service and an environment that reflect the price ... you can't charge me 50k for haircut base on 3D of what to expect when next i come |
Politics › Re: FG Warns Saboteurs As Power Generation Rises To 4,800MW by theredaddy: 8:50am On May 03, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Respectfully, I disagree
The experts have repeatedly stated that our lack of a cost reflective tarrif is why we don't have good enough power.
We are paying less than 70 naira per kWh, meanwhile the cost reflective tarrif is supposed to be 184 naira per kWh
In 2019, we were.paying between 20 to 30 naira per kWh. Cost reflective tarrif was 58 naira at least.
I agree most of us are poor and I agree most of us have never had good government, but you cannot run a power company at a loss and expect miracles
Indeed many discos have fallen because of low profit. The nesi owes the gas companies trillions of naira.
Even the corruption and lack of planning is a result of lack of profitability. Similar things do not exist in sectors that are allowed to set their prices because it would harm their bottom line.
The only way this system we have can work is if government raises tax to gdp above 30% or even 50 % or more. Especially since a subsidy of at least 3 Trillion naira per annum is needed. But sadly that is not possible. Even fighting corruption, which we got to do, and must do, won't raise the cash. And no investor is going to come and invest in a sector where 80% of people are paying below the cost reflective tarrif. I mean it harms their bottom line.
We need money to harness all that latent gas and hydro power. And unless government is ready to raise money via taxes, nothing will change.
God knows I wish there was another way. I effing wish so. i also disagree with you, for all the tariff you quoted you failed to put into cognisance GOvt subsidize power i.e there is a subsidy regime which Phcn as never debunked The main setback in the power sector is "corruption" lets call a spade a spade Everywhere in the world cost reflective tariff is subservient to service reflective tariff ... if Phcn is serious about cost reflective tariff then let Nigerians see a convincing infrastructural development that can guarantee stable supply |
Politics › Re: FG Warns Saboteurs As Power Generation Rises To 4,800MW by theredaddy: 8:35am On May 03, 2024 |
nairalanda1: It's because we don't want to pay market price for electricity
Other African countries do that, that is why they have better power outcomes. We don't, here we are.
You get what you pay for. No profit , no money to fix transmission and generation.
Right now, we should be paying 184 per kWh . Apart from band a, most of us pay 50 to 70 naira per kWh. That's 80% of consumers. Naturally no profit is made, and government subsidies are not enough.
And gas suppliers are getting fed up with being owed. That is a big lie, efficiency must preceeds charges, what we see in other countries is "Service reflective tariff" ... they want Nigerians to pay more, but the infrastructures on ground is not convincing No country pays for darkness like Nigerians, it is fraud-like to ask people to pay more with the hope service will improved |

FreeStuffsNG: Competing with lower prices is bad for Air Peace brand strategy.
Those guys probably think that you will offer lower prices in order to undercut your competitors so they will rather force you to transfer those charges to your customers. This is not market buying and selling/trading business where you stand in the corner of the market to call your neighbors' customers to one corner, offer your own goods to the customer at lower prices so that you can snatch those customers from your competitors, this is a heavily regulated service sector.
For as long as the charges are not discriminatory then do not complain rather compete fairly with your competitors by providing excellent service and international aviation travel national sentiments.
