Guess your questions have been answered. Just to add, for the new comer packages, the monthly fees are waived for 12 months, so you can explore that option.
I’m by no means an expert as I’m also new.

egobetatoday:

Pls do u mean I have to open a chequing account first before being offered the credit card (for RBC)? I'm only interested in their credit cards (for the pecks) but not their accounts because I learnt Canadian savings/chequing accounts come with a monthly fee so my plan is to open savings/current account with the online banks like tangerine. If I can walk in and get just the credit card alone then I'll go for it.

Just tell them it’s the new comer package. It’s a chequing account (if you’re doing RBC).

egobetatoday:

Pls, do I need to open current /savings account to be considered for their credit card as a new immigrant

Oh I see. My bad.

ednut1:
see miolad20s post. I don’t think he was talking about credit limit
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by TheSeventeenth: 2:18am On Jan 27, 2022
Not sure what their criteria is. I was in an AirBnB when I opened my account with RBC. Was not even going to add funds to the account at the time of the appointment and I got $2,000 credit limit. So I think there’s a huge possibility of getting that immediately.

ednut1:
no one will give you that immediately, cibc will give 300 dols when you satisfy the set conditions like 2 direct billing on the account ( phone , utilities payment) etc
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by TheSeventeenth: 10:50pm On Jan 26, 2022
If you mean credit limit, I got $2000 from RBC.
The guy did seem flexible like he could have done more if there were reasons to (In my head). It's their newcomer package.

Hope this helps.
Sashafiercediva:
credit interest immediately one opens the account.

This is definitely true and very valid for the most part.
There are places you do not want to live in the UK tho. Life was awesome when I was in Manchester, but had to move to Lancaster when I got a job up north (somewhere called Milnthorpe) in 2019. I had to talk to myself daily to remind myself there was a lot more to life. Then the lockdown came while I was still there (thankfully I had gotten married at this time) and it was still a mess. I was there for 9 months before I got a different job and had to move to Liverpool and things became better.
So moving to the UK is one thing, but there are UK cities that can rival whatever depression Canada has anyday, anytime; so it's worth looking out for.
As for making more money, I would think it's relative. Generally, I think living cost is a lot less in the UK (which is a major plus), but then in my field, the average salary in Canada (Toronto precisely) is way higher than most UK cities and probably at par with London (which is more expensive than Toronto).
I didn't have to change jobs on my move to Canada, and thankfully, my pay was adjusted (there are tools they use for these adjustments) and I honestly can save more at the end of every month. PS: this isn't peculiar to me.

So generally I think everybody's story is different and a lot of thoughts have to be given to what you do as a profession and where your bigger opportunities are.

But just like you, I found life in the UK easier. House search in Toronto was an extreme sport for me.
Naijaforeigner:

I lived in UK before moving over to Canada.

When it comes to the way of life, I prefer UK. The short distance by flight to Naija, the cheap Naija food, the fact that you feel like you are still close to home while living in the UK and so many other reasons will always make me prefer UK.

Personally, I think there is something missing in Canada when it comes to the social way of life. I have a good job, I am a PR but I still feel a void within me.
I never felt this way while I was in the UK even on a temporary Visa. Maybe it is just me, maybe it is the whole covid situation and the whole lockdown Canada has subjected us to. I just feel something is missing. This does not mean I do not like Canada, I just feel there could be more. This is my personal opinion!

Please note: Your Canada experience could be completely different to mine.

When it comes to making money, professional career and advancement, I would say both countries offer similar opportunities. Maybe you can make more money in UK but the difference can’t be too much when compared to Canada.

I always tell prospective immigrants to consider 2 things first before moving to any country; Human rights and ease of becoming a PR in that country. In UK and Canada, your human rights are fully covered which leads to the next one, ease of becoming a PR.

I don’t think any country in the world right now comes close to Canada (except New Zealand) when it comes to how fast you can become a PR. Canada is “dashing” out PR at the moment and this won’t stop anytime soon.
The downside is, Canada’s visa application/ process from Nigeria and even within Canada can be frustrating, challenging, time consuming and you will need all the patience in the world.

Finally, if you are looking for a way to get yourself and family out of Naija super fast, then UK is your go to country.

All the best and happy Sunday.

I have just moved to Canada (still in an AirBnB infact), so I may not be in the best position to tell you anything. But I have lived in the UK and briefly in the US and one thing I can tell you is that being a Graphic designer is super cool, but if that's the only skill you have, even having a job won't answer your question. You should pick up more skills, especially along the lines of UI/UX (for starters), then that way you are a better asset to anybody.
Like I said, I have just moved here and been for less than a week, so get as much info as you need from others.

Nigerianmigrant:
Guys I would really like your honest view on being a Graphics designer in Canada, is it a promising field, please guys help a bro out, I really need to know.

You think too highly of yourself, don't you?
"arouse" debate indeed. You have a lot of learning to do.

yunqdady:

Opinion to who? I replied no one with that statement.
That was a generic observation and it's well stated for arouse debate. Cry me a river if you are triggered.

I don't think he was asking for a toddler's opinion. He has one already.

I don't think it's advisable to bring your wife along with you to Canada. Honestly, marriage breaking is high

Definitely a scam.
The email address alone is a major pointer: lagos@vfsglobal.g-c.online

Ennymama:
Hello gurus in the house,

Please I need your advice. I saw a sponsored ads on Facebook about Canada Jobs. It also captioned that the company will sponsor the visa. I picked the number and chatted on WhatsApp. I was asked to send my CV to their email and after 24hours, I was mailed that my qualifications met their requirements. I was offered job as a Drill Engineer for the Oil and gas company. I was later sent Temporary Residence Visa Form to fill as well as Labour Market Impact Assessment(LMIA) form and Job agreement letter(that have in it that I will be responsible for the biometrics fee while other cost till arrival will be handled by the company). I filled and signed where necessary and returned them with my International passport as requested.

After few days, I was mailed to send the LMIA , Visa Form and my International passport to the lagos embassy of Canada through the email they gave (lagos@vfsglobal.g-c.online, so as to book my biometrics. I did as instructed and after few hours, got a mail from the said lagos embassy mail that my documents have been reviewed and i should proceed to pay for my biometrics through the payment link supplied so I can be given date for the biometrics. The biometrics fee is $116 CAD and processing fee is $91 CAD, bringing total to $207 CAD which amounted to #66,549.89 or pay same into one CEDI SIGNAL ZENITH BANK account and send receipt to them.

I am confused as to being real or not which is the reason I seek your genuine and honest advice.

Thanks.

Totally totally agree.
Expectations and entitlements were the problems here.
But then again, we only have his side of the story. Seriously wonder what the full picture is if there are flashes of entitlement in the victim’s side of the story.

CountVersailles:

I hear stories like this a lot. But while there are two sides to the story, I feel like there were also two competing expectations. On the side of the woman, she was earning much more than her husband, but wanted him to still foot a large part of the home expenses because he is the man. On the man's side, he was earning much lower but still wanted his wife to keep doing house chores in a country where responsbilities should be shared. Both came to Canada with Niaja expectations which clearly can't work there. Couples need to adjust their expectations when they go to Canada. Husband should be ready to get his hands dirty to allow the wife some rest and wife too needs to expect less in terms of financial success from the husband. They would have been a perfect couple in Nigeria, but there were never going to survive Canada from the beginning. Especially given that husband's attitude of not wanting to help with the chores. That's a big red flag.

Oh I am actually looking to sign in person.
I was in Toronto for a week sometime in November and I viewed a number of places. The thing is that I couldn't find anything too reasonable with a budget of 1500CAD apart from basements (I wasn't lucky enough to view a decent one btw). Hence my decision to consider the shared space option.
I have tried Kijiji, rentals.ca, torontorentals, condos.ca. There are places for that budget, but not too reasonable.

negal:

The best way to get this is through Kijiji, and to be honest most landlords/property managers will prefer you sign the lease contract in person. so maybe consider airbnb for now.

Still looking for this. Thanks!

Good day everyone.
I have had my PR since 2019, but have finally decided to move to Canada.
I am looking at flat sharing options around the Greater Toronto Area.
I would prefer a two bed house/apartment/condo with 2 baths.
Any help would be massively appreciated. Looking to move early January.

Thanks.

Wheelchairs are not just for disabled people. With that service, she doesn't have to bother about what gates to go to and all. The airline handles all those. That way, you don't necessarily need her tagging along with anyone.

Iamblessed007:
she's not disabled, i just need someone to guild her while navigating through the airport since this is the first time of her travelling. It would have been a smooth travel if the whole new covid-19 test required in the airport and the likes are not required. So i just need someone who can show or tell her how to move around. It will be great if she speaks to a Nigerian.
