I believe that all three have the power to change lives and as such I am focused on fostering collaborations and co-creation as a means to bake a bigger pie for all parties involved. This is the model I have championed in both Chocolate City Group and in other ventures we have been involved in. Yes Africa is open for business and we are helping to open those doors!”

He received special judges commendation as well as $15,000 Dollars in prize money.

In December 2011, Chocolate City Group, under Audu’s leadership, was named winner at the prestigious Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship in Nairobi, Kenya. Chocolate City was selected from over 3,300 applicants from 48 African countries to win prize of $50,000.

THEATER OF THE ABSURD: THE NIGERIAN SENATE by Jimoh Rashidat Efua LLB1

Looking at the Nigerian senate in recent times,i remember the drama-text called Fate of a cockroach by Tewfiq Al-hakim,it talks about absurdity and that is clearly portrayed in the now Nigerian senate. A senate structured to represent the interest of Nigerians, make laws, over see the excess of the executive amongst other responsibilities. but looking at the Nigerian senate these days one would wonder exactly what they are doing apart from earning millions monthly and billions annually, well that's aside from all their shady side business income,no one really knows how much they earn exactly!

If we decide to keep mute, we will all go down, as we are all sitting on a keg of gunpowder. While our solace ought to be the Student Union executives, they have only succeeded in drawing us back with their own unseriousness and irresponsibility.

I am not an activist. I am not a human rights advocate. I am just an innocent student being pushed to the wall. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is my institution of learning and I will do everything within my power to protect her integrity and promote the good image of the institution. It is my duty. It is our collective responsibility. However, it is also our obligation to cry out when things are going wrong and when situations are becoming unbearable. We need to be consoled. IN RESPONSE TO THE RECENT CLAMOUR FOR A YOUNG NIGERIAN PRESIDENT
Written by TAYO FABUSIWA

It is now stale news from the African experience, the spree of “old” leaders at the helms of affairs in several countries. Personalities who have enjoyed political positions over and over again still linger around the presidential chairs of these African States. In light of this, for instance, Nigerians have begun casting aspersions to the competence of our 73 year old president amidst his unstable health conditions. Zimbabwe is not left out, with her president, Robert Mugabe (93 years), being Africa’s oldest Head of State as well as the world’s second oldest Head of State and also having many of his policies questionable even by his people. These are just a few instances from a host of others in Africa.

There has therefore arisen, the clarion call for a youth president in Nigeria. The question then is "Who is a youth?" http://www.ifelawwriters.com/2017/05/in-response-to-recent-clamour-for-young.html

PARTNERS FOR DEVELOPMENTAL REVOLUTION: YOUTHOCRACY

Myriads of theorizing upon predictions, Africa is gradually earning a swelling reputation for over romanticizing ideologies than taking bold actions to concretize her developmental fortunes. And whereas in climes where development is done than said, leaders forecast the positive impact of development on successive generations; in jurisdictions where development is preached, every rhetoric of UN, IMF, World Bank is reechoed, while we wait for Macron or Obama to win elections, or for U.S., Japan and Russia to monopolize the outer space before we begin to chant in plagiarism 'yes we can'.

But it will be uncharitable to hold that there is nothing progressive and developmental about the African continent, it is rather apposite to x-ray the pace, innovativeness and committed sincerity in actualizing meaningful development in Africa and the significant roles youth must play in the path to Africa's renewal. The truism that youths are the trustees of a nation's peace and prosperity begets the the socio-political concept of 'Youthocracy'. The idea that young people with transcendent credentials of entrepreneurial and leadership savvies, competence, patriotism, and globally liberal can re-engineer societal progress, development and peace. How then can youth's resourcefulness: intellect, energy, resilience, aspirations, time, vigor and hope be harnessed to proffer sustainable solutions to mankind's demanding challenges? http://www.ifelawwriters.com/2017/05/partners-for-developmental-revolution.html

A 360 DEGREE STUDENT: OLUFADE IBIDOLAPO'S SPEECH AT MY PLO AND I

On the 19th day of June 1992, specifically a Friday at the magnificent Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library, a young law student – Olasupo Ojo bequeathed on us a legacy – the Great Ife Anthem. This Anthem had been the fuel of countless revolutions, struggles and protests for eons past, and it has also remain a mythical Muse inspiring us till today. I shall not be reproducing all the lines of the anthem but the lines apposite for today’s business state “For learning and culture, sports and struggle”.

This Anthem shows us in unequivocal terms what is expected from a student of this great institution birthed in 1962 and so it is an unpardonable taboo for a Great Ife Student to learn without having culture, to be sporty without struggling against neofascist forces that want to pull down the very core of our communal existence as an intellectual habitat.

It is therefore fitting, if I say that whenever we sing our Anthem, we are making a solemn declaration that we will be balanced and rounded students. Students whose habitat isn’t just the lecture theatres but whose very abode is the theatre of the world – where life battles are fought and won as gladiators whose blood and sweat have mixed with the sand of the Arena.
The Executive Council of the Law Students’ Society have called upon me to speak to you on the topic the 360 degree student http://www.ifelawwriters.com/2017/05/olufade-ibidolapo-speech-at-my-plo-and-i.html

After relentless hours of preparation and hard work, students of the Obafemi Awolowo University proceeded to Bowen University for its Inter University Moot and Mock Competition. The following schools dotted the Bowen University landscape in Iwo: University of Ibadan, Bowen University, Osun State University and Obafemi Awolowo University.
At the Moot stage which was the qualifying stage to the final, Team OAU faced Bowen University as Respondents.  Representing the Obafemi Awolowo University were Adefarati Mosunmola (300 level) and Adewunmi Victor (300 level).
Obafemi Awolowo University emerging as the best the overall at the moot stage, while Osun State University came thus both teams proceeded to the finals.
Oyewale Faith and Agboola Elijah represented Obafemi Awolowo University as counsels while Olajide Mary and Oseni Tawakalt were witnesses at the finals, the Mock.
In delivering its judgement, after the enthralling and brilliant final address by the highly cerebral and fire cracking counsels of OAU team, the judge resolved all three issues in favour of the prosecution (Team OAU). OAU emerged as winner of the competition. Equally Oyewale Faith emerged as the best counsel!

Watch Video: It's Time to Act on Climate Change, U.K. Institutions Tell Governments. http://olabodeoladapo..com/2015/07/its-time-to-act-on-climate-change-uk.html
Two dozen of the United Kingdom's top scientific and cultural institutions released a joint letter on Tuesday urging governments to take action on climate change, and work for a world with zero net carbon dioxide emissions by the second half of this century.

"The scientific evidence is now overwhelming that the climate is warming and that human activity is largely responsible for this change through emissions of greenhouse gases," says the letter signed by the Royal Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the British Ecological Society, among other groups.

They urge world leaders to set goals to strike carbon emissions and develop policies to tackle climate change ahead of international talks to be held in Paris beginning in November.

Nations will have to hit the zero-carbon emissions mark, the letter signers say, if they want to avert the worst repercussions of warming the world more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels

Politics / Police Probe Ekweremadu For Senate Rules ‘forgery’ by TheSmilingMan(m): 6:33am On Jul 06, 2015
Detectives are probing the “unilateral” alteration of the Senate rules on the election of the Senate President and his deputy.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has been invited for questioning - an action that has drawn the ire of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase asked Ekweremadu to report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, today to answer questions on a petition said to have been filed against him by a group of senators detailing how he unilaterally tinkered with certain provisions of the Senate Standing Rules.

The petitioners were said to have alleged that Ekweremadu had taken undue advantage of the rules to become the Deputy Senate President in the June 9 election of principal officers of the National Assembly.

The election was to have been by voice vote, The Nation learnt. But ballot was used —against the rules, which Ekweremadu said had been adjusted.

Opponents of his election claim that there was no sitting to ammend the rules throughout the four years of the last Senate.

In Abuja yesterday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh said the said amendment to the rule was effected by the bureaucracy of the National Assembly headed by the Clerk, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa.

Metuh said the invitation from the IGP was a build-up to phantom charges with a view to arresting and incarcerating Ekweremadu and pave the way for the imposition of a preferred APC senator to take his position.

The party accused certain unnamed All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders of instigating the police action against Ekweremadu, adding that the party had uncovered threats to the life of the Deputy Senate President and other key PDP leaders.

“Since President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that Senator Ekweremadu’s election was ‘unacceptable’ to his party, the Deputy Senate President, who can only be removed by the Senate, has come under threats and intense pressure from APC leaders to resign and allow a senator from the ruling party to take his position.

“However, having failed to get him to resign, the APC has now engaged in heinous plots to force him out of office, a design which totally negates the independence of the legislature and the spirit and letters of the constitution of Nigeria. http://olabodeoladapo..com/2015/07/police-probe-ekweremadu-for-senate.html

Politics / Buhari's Appointment: The Need For True Federal Character.faboade Timothy Writes by TheSmilingMan(m): 6:16am On Jul 06, 2015
"The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that Government or any of its agencies" (section 14(3) of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria).

I am not an ethnicist nor ready to champion ethnicity but to sensitize the federal government on the need to respect the above quoted of the Constitution, which is meant to ensure unity among the various ethnic groups in the country. Although the President of the country has power to appoint anyone he THINKS can serve the country selflessly, there is also a need to critically consider the necessity to carry along all the regions, tribes and religions to a very large extent.

Since his assumption of office as the President of the country, Buhari has made about nine appointments (top positions). Of course, no president will do without making appointments. Among those appointed are: Lawal Daura (Katsina) as the director of State Service, Mr Mordechai Baba Ladan as the Director, the department of petroleum resources, Alhaji Ahmed Idris as the accountant-general of the federation. Others are Mallam Abdullah Kazure as the Chief of protocol, Aide De Camp, Lt. Colonel Lawal Abubarka, Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Mrs. Amina Zakari as the acting INEC chairman and Mr. Femi Adesina, who happens to be the only appointee from the south as the special adviser on media and publicity. http://olabodeoladapo..com/2015/07/buharis-appointment-need-for-true.html

Foreign Affairs / Hillary Clinton Comments On Viral Photo Of Crying Gay Youth by TheSmilingMan(m): 4:31pm On Jul 05, 2015
A tearful young man crying about the uncertainties of being gay has just gotten the ultimate affirmation by none other than Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"I'm homosexual and I'm afraid about what my future will be and that people won't like me," reads the caption on the widely-distributed portrait of a teen sitting on a stoop in a collared shirt and teal cardigan. The shot was taken by Brandon Stanton for Humans of New York, his popular and prolific photo series known to illustrate microcosms of emotion in America's most populous city.

Among the photo's more-than 500,000 Facebook likes and 50,000 shares from the Humans of New York Facebook page, the nameless youth had at least one big-name fan.

On July 3 at 12 p.m. EST, Clinton commented: "Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you're capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you - there will be lots of them. –H"

The "H" indicates that Clinton herself left the comment, rather than someone on her team, and the comment's individual likes are inching toward 100,000.

While many Humans of New York photos go viral, this portrait gained early press not just due to topicality but because Facebook administrators initially deleted it, Jezebel reports.

"Seems that Facebook removed the young man's brave statement and is now preventing me from uploading any further photos. I'm hoping it was a mistake. http://olabodeoladapo..com/2015/07/hillary-clinton-comments-on-viral-photo.html

Crime / Charleston Suspect Was In Contact With Supremacists, Officials Say by TheSmilingMan(m): 2:18am On Jul 04, 2015
Federal and local authorities have found that the man charged in the shooting deaths of nine black people in a South Carolina church last month had been in contact with white supremacists online, although it does not appear they encouraged him to carry out the massacre, according to law enforcement officials.

Investigators uncovered that information as they have pieced together where the gunman, Dylann Roof, 21, received his inspiration, and whether anyone else should face charges in connection with the murders.

“To understand what happened, you have to understand who he talked to and who may have known what,” said one law enforcement official briefed on the case. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified discussing a continuing investigation.

So far, the authorities have determined that people around Mr. Roof were aware that he held some racist beliefs.

If the authorities find that any of Mr. Roof’s associates knew about his plans, they would most likely try to prosecute them. In the case of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, at least two men who were friends of the bombers were charged with helping them dispose of evidence from the bombing and from a subsequent shooting of a police officer. Three other men associated with the bombers were charged in connection with lying to the authorities or obstructing the investigation.

Nairaland / General / Human Rights Bodies Seek Justice For Nine Sentenced To Death For ‘blasphemy’ by TheSmilingMan(m): 2:06am On Jul 04, 2015
AN international United Nations accredited human rights advocacy organisation, the International Humanist and Ethical Union, and the Nigerian Humanist Movement, have expressed concerns over the death sentences reportedly handed down to nine individuals in Kano State by an Upper Sharia Court recently.

In a joint letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the groups urged the trio “to do whatever you can to seek true justice, respecting and restoring the human rights of those accused, and to work to end the malicious and unjust use of “blasphemy” as a criminal prohibition anywhere in Nigeria.”

The letter was signed by Andrew Copson, President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union, and Leo Igwe for the Nigerian Humanist Movement.

An Upper Sharia Court, Rijiyar Lemo, in Kano, had on Thursday, June 25, this year, announced the sentencing of nine to death for blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam. A statement by the State Sharia Court of Appeal signed by a man named Nasiru, had said the nine persons were found guilty under Section 110 and Section 382b of the Sharia Penal Court law year 2000.

The International Humanist and Ethical Union and the Nigerian Humanist Movement, however, considers the death sentences on the accused persons as “disproportionate and constitutes an egregious violation of the right to life” given their alleged offence.

Literature / Agony Of A Town Boy In Great Ife: Episode Ii: First Day Of Resumption by TheSmilingMan(m): 1:37pm On Jul 03, 2015
Although I’d heard of hoodlums in big cities like Lagos engaging in petty crimes like pick-pocketing et cetera, I`d not really experienced such horrible things because I’d always been locked up in my ‘big’ town, Gbongan. I was really scared to death when I was about to fall victim of such crimes. And that began the chapter of my agony in Great Ife.
Being the first day of resumption, I boarded a commercial bus going to Ile-Ife from Gbongan. Before getting the bus, I`d to stand up to an hour under the smiling scorching sun, my soul engulfed with a mixture of frustration and internal ecstasy. Just like that I`d become an OAU student, a law student for that matter. I was going to sleep on my own allocated bed space in the Angola Hall of residence tonight. My life was really moving and changing faster more than I could have comprehended. And finally, I WAS REALLY GOING TO PUT ON TIE. Those were the thoughts running through my innocent mind. I was so elated. Although the sun was scorching, I was really enjoying it. Nothing seemed so hard, then.
