My regular pay was 60k per month because I was employed as a web developer... But I topped my skills I started developing apps and softwares & was promoted .senior software developer... But I still want to leave by May, n focus on my startup.... They sometimes pay half.... If you feel you are being underpaid but you still gain more from your company I think you should stay, but still apply for other job positions with higher pay. |

Programming › Re: Is Copy-paste Programming Good? by thewebcraft(m): 7:10pm On Apr 30, 2015 |
Knownpal: 1. There are lots of copy-paste when building website, which is obviously common in Nigeria, at least to some people, do all these people really understand what they are doing too in terms of how the code works?
2. You don't use very easy and popular frameworks, because of what? What if the one I stumbled upon is not popular and is not easy to use as well.
3. What if I need to submit the project, and its a matter of urgency? The important thing you should know is your syntax... 1. I've seen so many people who do that and they call themselves developer's but there's a slight gap between them and web designers.. Don't fall in this category. 2. You can use frameworks that's not copy and paste, there's a difference. 3. Always give reasonable deadline for projects forget the fact that you can build it in minutes. |

Knownpal: I've really come across lots of incidents where, when I'm about to write an application and I notice I need this particular Framework or API, which I don't know an inch about. So, lets say you're the one, when you get a book on it or you fired up your browser in search of tutorials. And you come across exactly what you wanna accomplish, now do you copy and paste it in your lines of code or you learn it in depth and tryna write it again from your head base on what you've learned or you tune it to your desires? Please contribute, I also need matured minds on this. Thanks. It happens all the time but when you find out that when ever you want to start a project you cant do without looking for a source code then there's a problem. Your users dont care if you built it with a free open source code but you really need to understand what you are building. I once built a website and i was asked to write a documentation on the whole site's source code line by line and lecture the IT team on how to write plugins for the site, if i had used a framework for the backend it wouldn't have been that easy, what I'm saying is when building a big project please don't use a popular n very easy framework you know nothing about for the backend. Thanks. |

abdul01: Oga seun I hail oh!
Observation(in addition to d ones I and some other peeps here have made b4):
How come other social networks like twitter, facebook n co have public APIs that 3rd party devs harness and make intelligence from these data thereby making a living for themselves and NL has none.
Please u need to sit up oh as boys are not smiling! if its for u to hire developers from outside d country to help with (re)building NL, then it won't be far-fetched since dis is d practice of world-class tech coys (e.g google hires d best brains around d world and even hired d creator of python to help build maintain and expand their empire, same thing for other super-startups like linkedIn, dropbox, facebook n co).
Please u really need to take NL to a higher level as I see NL having a potential of facebook, twitter and even google if you are really serious. There's a lot I wanna say, but I'll just leave it like this for now. Cheers! I use nairaland API (PHP) |

I live and grew up in Lagos. I learnt every bit programming language and frameworks I know by myself, I never saw the need to go to a computer school. I have a degree in Mathematics. I read alot...as far as it has to do with IT. I don't like video tutorials because I believe they tend to skip out on details.
Been working for about 8 years and I'm barely 30..so please don't call me Sir (you are probably older that I am self). Unfortunately I can't tell you where I work (for security reasons). I'm currently a Senior programmer in my department. And I have worked on numerous of projects which I cannot list. However, they span over areas such as assets managements, access control, electronic health records, computer based simulations, document management, encryption systems and I've had to programmer controllers in the past but I don't major on hardware. I am currently working on a Geographic Information System in java for use within my organization. Thumbs Up kudaisi ...... |

Programming › Re: Wisdom To Code By by thewebcraft(m): 4:15pm On Apr 15, 2015 |
danvery2k6: Like any other occupation, the longer you do software development, the more you learn. Often, much of the wisdom one accumulates over time comes from learning the hard way, through trial and error. Other times, though, those who’ve come before you will save you some time (and pain) by imparting the lessons they themselves have learned over the years. One of the good ways to do that is through proverbs, that is, simple sayings that convey a truth, usually based on experience. A Github (https://github.com/AntJanus/programmers-proverbs) repository created last year called Programmer’s Proverbs has been collecting these short sayings from developers.
1.One thing should never do more than one thing.
2.What happens in Git stays in Git
3. Don't commit on master when drunk.
4.Debugging becomes significantly easier if you first admit that you are the problem.
5.Simpler code has less bugs
6.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. Teach a programmer to debug and he can do his work for a life time.
7.A foreach loop avoided is a CPU cycle earned.
8.Absence is beauty, in error logs.
9.Testing is easier than debugging.
10. The best code is no code at all.
11. Figure out your data structures, and the code will follow. Nice. |
