Wayne Rooney was forced to leave the field with blood pouring from his face after suffering a nasty eye injury during Everton's 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

Rooney was elbowed in the face by Bournemouth defender Simon Francis following a challenge in the air and he suffered a cut around his eye. Rooney needed lengthy treatment from the club's medical staff before he was allowed to return to the field.

Rooney protested heavily to referee Martin Atkinson over the challenge but the referee refused to hand out any punishment to Francis. Then two minutes before half-time, Rooney's wound re-opened following a challenge with Adam Smith. Blood streamed down the former England skipper's face and he needed more treatment from the Everton medics.

The experienced forward eventually left the field on 55 minutes. His manager Ronald Koeman is hopeful that he will be fit for their next game against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday.

Koeman said: "We knew it would be difficult for the second half. It cost time in the first half but I had to change him. Hopefully he will be OK for the next game."

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll believes Atkinson made the right decision to keep Francis on the field following the nasty looking challenge. He said Francis did not deliberately inflict injury on Rooney.

Poll, speaking on BT Sport, said: "It’s not deliberate. If a player wants to do someone with an arm, they tend to clench their fist to give it power."

Suspected armed robbers storm filling station in Benue State, shoot two dead and cart away cash

Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers stormed a filling station at Tor-Donga community in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, shot dead two people before carting away undisclosed amount of money.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the incident occurred at Mangris Filling station on Monday, September 18 at about 7pm.

Yamu said the owner of the petrol filling station reported that the robbers stormed his business premises located at the Tor-Donga rural community, shot dead two people, carted away monies and other valuables.

He said the robbery gang had ordered everyone to lay on the barefloor while their illicit operation lasted.

But, one of the victim had raised his head during the process which propelled the angry robbers to pull their trigger on him.

The police spokesman added that the victim died on his way to the hospital, alongside another civilian also shot dead by the robbers at the scene of the incident.

The young lady pictured above was rescued from the hands of suspected ritualists in Sapele, Delta state two days ago. According to reports, the young lady who goes about selling cocoyam, was forced into a waiting car by the kidnappers at gunpoint. The men drove her into The Ethiope Primary school in Sapele where they prepared to kill her and dismember her body. However, luck ran out on them after residents in the area heard the cries of the young lady. They rushed into the school and rescued her. The men were not apprehended as they fled the scene of the incident.

The abandoned vehicle has been towed to the Sapele main police station while investigations into the matter is ongoing.

Over ten drug-dealing suspects including a Nigerian national have been arrested in recent raids in Thailand.

Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakan told a press conference on Monday, in Bangkok that officers had so far this fiscal year confiscated 100 million yaba pills and more than 4,000 kilograms of “ice” worth Bt7.6 billion.

Chalermkiat said police arrested Charles Ndubuisi Umemma, a 34-year-old Nigerian national, who was wanted on a court-ordered arrest warrant.

Umemma, who was apprehended in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Saturday, September 16, faces charges of obtaining and possessing “ice” with intent to sell and send to Australia. Police had found that he tried to send 120 grams of “ice” to Sydney.

Chalermkiat said Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) officers had arrested five Hmong suspects in Chiang Rai on Saturday while they were allegedly transporting 6,392,000 yaba pills from Chiang Rai to Ayutthaya in a 10-wheel truck.

The suspects reportedly told police they were hired for Bt1 million to transport drugs.

The Lagos state police command yesterday arrested eight ( members of a notorious cult group that specializes in terrorizing the residence of Lagos Island. A statement by the public relations officer of the command, Olarinde Famous-Cole says that at about 6.30am, the command received a distress call from residence in the area, that unknown hoodlums were engaging themselves and parading dangerous weapons at Evans street Lagos Island.

Upon the information received, police operatives from the command trailed the suspects to their hideout at Federation Hotel located at Andrew street Lagos Island.

The names of the suspects arrested are: Kazeem Kareem 'm' , Belly Akeem 'm' , Ahmed Hassan 'm', Abiodun Hassan 'm', Segun Popoola (a.k.a Playboy) 'm' , Adeyinka Ayodeji 'm', Olanrewaju Sulaiman 'm' and one Sakirat Kareem 'f' we're apprehended at the hotel. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of 'Eye Confraterbity cult group. They also have useful information of one Rasak Olalekan Kareem 'm' a.k.a Falapa 25yrs who is believed to be the gang leader of the 'Eye' cult.

The Lagos state police command has also declared one of the notorious cultists, Rasak Olalekan Kareem aka falapa arrested.The command says if seen anywhere, he should be apprehended and handed over to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile all suspects arrested so far would soon be charged to court. The police have enjoined members of the public are enjoined to assist the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of all other Plain cultist on the Island.

Police in Kiambu area of Kenya are holding a Nigerian man who stabbed his fellow countryman to death in a fight over money in Ruaka Town, Kiambaa sub-county on Monday.

A witness said that the man pulled out a knife and stabbed his friend moments after arriving at his residence. "The guy came over and they met at the gate. He stopped outside his friend's car, knocked on the window, took out the knife and stabbed his friend in the chest," a guard at the residence in question said.

Neighbors said the guard held the attacker and roughed him up, but was saved by police who arrived at the scene. They described the friends as secretive and reserved. Police officers said the victim was stabbed several times on the chest following a confrontation over an unknown amount of money.

A journalist from north-eastern Nigeria has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Amina Yuguda is a news presenter on local network Gotel Television, where she has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency.

She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London in September. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News,who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.

Ms Yuguda said her win was a “huge honour. I was overwhelmed with joy. Storytellers have always had an important role in Africa… this is what defines us. Today journalists are taking on that responsibility.”

She impressed the panel with her story-telling and her ability to convey complex ideas in a way that resonates with a wide audience.

I keep receiving a plethora of complaints in form of texts from people above 50 especially women, who think they are not ageing(aging) well.

They complain of decreased libido, arthritis, constant waist pain, chronic back pain, blurred vision, forgetfulness, staggering gaits, constant upper abdominal pain, etc etc.

Do you know that most of our disabilities are anchored on reduced brain function. If your brain is working maximally and blood perfusion is optimum – most brain damages especially Alzheimer’s disease would be prevented.

Prof Joel Furhman who at 80 was as fit as a fiddle, had very little limitation. He remembered that he altered his lifestyle when he clocked 50. He decided to recreate these strategies for the benefit of mankind. Let us begin.

1) Maintain favourable blood pressure and cholesterol

λ The small arteries of the brain are sensitive to elevations of blood pressure – and long term Hypertension can injure them. Several studies support the connection between blood pressure and brain health.

λ Higher blood pressure correlates with poorer cognitive performance and damage to brain tissue.

λ According to long term studies, the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia is more than doubled if systolic blood pressure is above 140 – 160mmHg for a long time.

λ Cholesterol plays a role in the formation of amyloid beta plaques, a damage that is characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease. Please if you are above 50, and hypertensive always consult your doctor.

2) Check your Vitamin D level

λ Low levels of vitamin D are linked to cognitive impairment, and dementia in older adults, because vitamin D is involved in memory formation.

• Vitamin D is also involved in regulating glucose and calcium transport to and within the brain, and also protects cognition by reducing inflammation, and increasing availability of certain neuro transmitters.

λ Get your vitamin D level checked regularly with blood test if you are above 50, and you notice random forgetfulness creeping into your life. Normal level 30 to 45ng/ml.

3) Take much of vegetables and Vitamin B12

λ If you are above 60, and start noticing confusion and depression in your life. Maintaining sufficient levels of omega-3 fatty acid DHA in the brain is an important measure for preventing neuro degenerative diseases later in life.

λ Studies have shown that higher intake, higher circulating omega-3 DHA and vitamin B12 are associated with a decreased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, but let your doctor exclusively determine this.

λ 20% of adults over age 60 are either insufficient or deficient of vitamin B12 – which causes problems in the brain, including confusion, depression and poor memory.

λ Since your body’s ability to absorb vitamin B12 decreases with age, and the vitamin is not present in plant foods, it is wise to supplement. Ask your doctor.

4) Limit your consumption or red meat and other animal products

λ Copper and iron are essential minerals present in large amounts in red meat: these minerals accumulate in the body over time, and in excess they can harm the brain.

λ Excess copper and iron contribute to oxidative stress in the brain, and are involved in amyloid-beta plaque formation in the brain which could lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

λ As we age let us consume wore vegetables, beans and fruits. Stick to healthier white meat – like fish, snails, stock fish or chicken.

5) Focus on whole plant foods

λ A good rule to follow as we clock 50, is to have 90% or more of your diet in whole plant foods – meaning vegetables, fruits, legumes, beans, wheat, nuts and seeds.

λ A diet higher in whole plant foods and low in red meat and dairy products was associated with 36% decrease in risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

λ If you are above 50 make sure your food is rich in natural healthy plant foods found in different parts of Nigeria. This is when you begin to to make amends for your youthful over-consumption-indiscretion.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested an Alsatian dog named Bullet, for alleged robbery in the Ladipo, Oshodi area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, during a parade of the dog at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday, said two other robbery suspects, Odunade Olajide and Adeniyi Adisa, sent the dog after their victims.

He explained that in fear, their targets would surrender their belongings. The CP said after dispossessing the victims of cash and other valuables, the suspects would speed away with the dog on a motorcycle.

He said the men, however, met their Waterloo while attempting to rob a lady of her valuables in Ladipo, as the victim raised the alarm and the suspects were apprehended by the police.

According to Punchng, their operational motorcycle was also recovered. He said, “On September 5, 2017, two local criminals, who specialised in robbing people by sending a dog to attack them, were arrested.

The suspects would command the Alsatian dog to attack a victim. The dog, in response to the command, would pounce on the person. Gripped with fear, the person would hand over all his belonging to the gang.”

The CP explained that detectives had been on the trail of the suspects, but luck ran out on them last Thursday when they were arrested. But the suspects denied the allegations, saying they had only gone to buy dog feed when the woman raised a false alarm.

Olajide said the woman eventually found her phone where she kept it, adding that by then it was late as SARS operatives had arrested them.

So when we talk about getting a fish bone stuck, what exactly do we mean?

The oil will make the bones slick and slippery, and will also help to soften it and weigh it down so that you can swallow the bone away.

3: Gulp A Marshmallow

Lots of people swear by this method.

Grab a big jumbo-sized marshmallow and pop it in your mouth.

Chew it a tiny bit, just enough to make it melty and sticky, and small enough to swallow.

As soon as possible, gulp the marshmallow down, swallowing it whole.

The sticky goop of the confection should “grab” the bone from wherever it’s lodged and pull it straight down your gullet.

4: Sip Vinegar

You can try sipping a little bit of diluted vinegar to help move the bone along.

The jury is still out on this method, but lots of people say that mixing up a solution of vinegar and water gets rid of the fish bone by dissolving it.

Fish bones are usually fairly delicate and fragile, and vinegar is an acid, so the idea is that the vinegar would help hasten the process of the stomach acid to dissolve the bone in your throat.

The main drawback to this method is that it might take a little longer.


5: Dunk Bread In Warm Water

The bread method works a bit like the marshmallow method.

Tear off a piece of dry bread and slightly dunk it in warm water or milk.

Immediately ball up the bread and swallow it whole.

The hope is that the rough texture of the bread, and the stickiness from the milk or water, will help to snag the bone from wherever it’s lodged and carry it away.


6: Go See The Doctor

If you’ve tried all of these methods and nothing is working, go to a doctor to get the bone removed.

Usually, this can be done very quickly and painlessly, though in extreme cases, minor surgery may be required. In rare cases, injury from a fish bone may be life-threatening.

You should also go to the doctor immediately if there is excessive bleeding (more than a drop), intense pain, a puncture wound, or a blockage in the airway.

Anyone choking on a fishbone or unable to breathe must call 911 and get emergency medical attention.

There was a heavy explosion which rocked the former New artisan market Enugu at 8 p.m on Monday, 11th September.

According to the Enugu State Police Command Spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu the command has launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion and has dispatched a team of investigators mainly from its Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD), to the scene of the incident.

The spokesman revealed that no life was lost and said that the EOD team was currently combing the entire area and its environs in order to ensure that it was safe and secure for all

“The command through its operatives has commenced a full-scale investigation into the alleged incident of an explosion at the scrap site of the former New Artisan Market in Enugu. The cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained and no life was lost. However, the incident is alleged to have caused minor destruction in a nearby food shop, including two vehicles parked near the said shop,’’ he said.

He advised residents of the state and travellers along the road not to panic.

“The command is advising the good people of the state, particularly residents of that axis not to entertain fear or panic, but to go about their normal lawful businesses. All hands are on deck, the command is working in partnership with relevant sister security agencies and stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure Enugu and its environs,’’ he said.

It helps people cope better with the outside world! The most educated people of the country can provide a real development to all branches of economy in this country.

Nigeria is one of the most populated countries in Africa! In addition, it's one of the most educated countries on the continent. It consists of 36 states, where hardworking people work towards the country`s development. Education is another tool to achieve this development. For a long time, the South-West states have been dominating the market of education in Nigeria.

How about this year? Which are the most educated states in Nigeria? There are a lot of standards that have been considered while compiling the list of the most educated states, like:
*. Literacy level;
*. The number of educational institutions;
*. The number of scholars and professors;
*. The number of educated women.

It`s not the whole list but the most crucial points of education for any country. According to the above-mentioned criteria and data from the National University Commission Statistics, Wobegist provides its top 10 most educated states in Nigeria.

10. Ogun state
The most prominent education facilities of Ogun state are three schools of the federal level:

7. Osun state
The new vision of education from the present administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is to improve the Universal Primary Education in the state. Mr. Aregbesola focuses on promoting functional education in the institutions of the state. It seems that this strategy is paying off.

6. Abia State
This state in the South-East of Nigeria has four highly qualified universities as its representatives of the level of education:

*. Abia State University;
*. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture.

7. Anambra State

4. Enugu State

3. Lagos state
Lagos is known to be of the richest States in Nigeria. Consequently, the level of education in the state has shown an improved standard. Therefore, it`s not surprising to discover that Lagos is one of the vanguards of economic development in Nigeria!

2. Delta state
It`s one of the most prominent states in Nigeria in terms of education. The most prominent institutions in the state are focused on the petroleum exploration.

1. Imo state
The center of Imo state educational programme is concentrated in the capital of the state – Owerri. This city is a place for the most notable educational institutions in the whole of Nigeria!

Conclusion: Education is one of the three pillars of a country’s development. So it`s very important to provide the highest level of education to the citizens of the country.

Without proper education level, Nigeria will not be able to compete with other countries!

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons on Thursday arraigned Rita Ani, an Abu Dhabi-based lady, before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, PremiumTimes reports.

Ms. Ani, 25, was arraigned alongside her elder sister, Ngozi (also known as Princess), Ozigi Abdulkarim, and Princewill James on a ten-count charge bordering on conspiracy and human trafficking.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The counsel to Ms. Ani and her sister did not file a formal application for their bail and, as a result, they were remanded in prison.

The suspects were arrested last month for alleged trafficking of girls from Nigeria to the United Arab Emirates to engage in forced prostitution.

Ms. Ani, who hails from Enugu State, allegedly belongs to a network of Nigerian traffickers based in Abu Dhabi who engage Nigerian girls in international prostitution in the UAE, NAPTIP said.

The defendants were recently arrested by operatives of NAPTIP in two operations in Gwarimpa, Abuja and Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ms. Ani returned home from Abu Dhabi to perform her traditional marriage rites preparatory to moving to the United Kingdom with her fiancé and was arrested in Ibadan.

The lid on the suspects was blown when one of their alleged victims returned from Abu Dhabi after four months of forced prostitution “under very excruciating conditions including flogging and the insertion of hot boiling ring into her vagina when she does not make enough money a day and forceful collection of the proceeds of the prostitution from her by Ms. Ani,” said NAPTIP.

The victim who is 19 years old was allegedly recruited from Gwarimpa, Abuja by her ex-boyfriend Mr. Abdulkarim, the elder Ms. Ani, and Mr. James for onward transfer to Ms. Ani in Abu Dhabi.

According to NAPTIP, they prepared her travel documents, took her to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where a fetish oath was administered on her before the journey.

The United Nations says cholera is spreading rapidly through IDPcamps sheltering people displaced by Boko Haram in north-eastern Nigeria.

According to the UN, more than 530 suspected cases had been registered in camps in Borno state, three times the number reported five days earlier and more than 20 people have died.

Last month the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund, which is managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, allocated $10.5m (£8m) for life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable. Nearly two million people have been displaced by the conflict between Boko Haram militants and government forces.
