One Chime Chinedu Afamefuna, 25, has been saved from death after drinking a poisonous concoction suspected to be rat poison in a bid to commit suicide on August 12. The incident took place in a classroom at Uwani Boys Secondary School Enugu.

According to NewTelegraph, he was saved by a member of the Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Legion Corpsof Commissionaires, Ekoh-Clement O.I., who along with his men stumbled on Chime and alerted Uwani police division.

He was then rushed unconscious to the police hospital Enugu, where he was revived. Every effort made to extract the real motive for the attempted suicide has proven abortive.

When the police invited Aneke, the woman whose name was on a suicide note he wrote, it was discovered that she is Afamefuna’s auntie and also sponsored his secondary school education before he ran away from home and joined street boys.

It was gathered that Afamefuna’s mother died shortly after giving birth to his immediate younger brother. Aneke said since the sad incident, she assumed the responsibility of taking care of him and his younger brother.

The auntie was said to have expressed frustrations at Afamefuna’s delinquent behaviours, a development that had seen him in and out of police cells before he finally eloped from home and started living street life.

She was said to have however expressed willingness to keep her doors open if the young man would turn a new leaf and return home. It was observed that street life possibly exposed Afamefuna to cultism.

And that perhaps he couldn’t meet up with cult demands hence the decision to take his life. Also, the last phrase of his suicide note, “IN THE NAME OF FUTA-JALUN my mother high temple”, may have something to do with either mysticism or cultism.

The fire reportedly started from the generator house and burnt his Prado SUV.

we also learnt that Kcee wasn't home, he's currently on a nationwide tour of his 'Attention To Detail' album and as at now the fire has been brought under control.

Oluh Tochukwu, a medical doctor with the Imo State University Teaching Hospital IMSUTH, recently did the right thing by returning N2.7 million that was mistakenly paid into his account. Showing his account balance and a letter he wrote to the bank requesting the money to be removed from his account, Oluh on his Facebook page wrote;

"In this austere time and with the long holidays knocking, the sum of #2.7M (Two Million Seven Hundred Thousand naira) was MISTAKENLY credited into one of my "not well used" accounts 3days ago. I reported officially and have given the required consent and other stuffs necessary to REVERSE it back to where it came from successfully. There are still HONEST Nigerians. A team of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) on Wednesday, August 30, along Ikot-Ekpene road, Aba intercepted one L300 Mitsubishi Bus with Reg. No. KT 126 KST conveying 24 pieces of Solar Batteries and two gas cylinders with its hose.

They arrested the driver identified as Ifeanyi Jacob, a member of the gang that recently robbed an MTN Mast in Ohanze village Obi-Ngwa LGA of the state.

The security man attached to the Mast, Brown Ohia was attacked during the robbery. Effort is on to apprehend other members of the gang.

In Bauchi State, a 17-year-old housewife has said she attempted to kill her rival’s two-week old baby because of the deep hatred she had for her husband and his first wife — the baby’s mother, WobeGist reports.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen today, the suspect, Hindatu Abdullahi, said her father forced her into the marriage when she was just 15 years old.

She said: “My husband, Abdullahi Ori, and I have been married for two years now and we have a child. He married me as his second wife. He used to love me dearly, but he suddenly started maltreating me.

He would beat me, insult me and abuse me at the slightest provocation. I reported his maltreatment to my parents all the time, but they have never believed what I told them, since it was their idea for me to marry him.

My father forced me to marry him, against my wish. I have been staying in my husband’s house just because of my parents.” Abdullahi, who sobbed while she spoke to newsmen said: “I have not been in good terms with my husband and my rival.

We are always fighting. I don’t know why I did what I did, but I regret it. Whatever punishment that will be given to me should be done, but every time I remember my action, I keep regretting doing what I did."

According to the suspect, her husband travelled to Saudi Arabia for the ongoing hajj; and when her rival went out, she went into her room and took her baby to her own room.

After that, she administered what was suspected to be poison on the infant, but the baby didn’t drink it. “I quickly removed his clothes and cleaned the poison with it. I became very confused, realising what I had done,” she said.

Abdullahi said further that the baby was then rushed to the hospital and the nurse said the baby did not swallow the poison. “They called my husband on phone and he vowed to divorce me when he returns from his pilgrimage,” she added.

She claimed that she was given 80 strokes of the cane after her husband’s brother insisted that she must be punished. Not satisfied with the punishment she was given, he then took her to the Police Station.

The appeal of a Nigerian couple Sunday Iserian and Joy Lucky, and their eight year old daughter to stay in Iceland, has been rejected. They will be deported to Nigeria, the country’s Immigration and Asylum appeals board, ruled on Monday.

The family received this news after living in Iceland after a year and a half. Both Iserian and Joy had left Nigeria more than eight years ago, via the Libya route, to Italy, where they met and had the child.

They later migrated to Iceland, in search of a better life. Iserian appealed for political asylum due to threats he claimed he received from the Nigerian government. He says that he was a victim of political persecution and was afraid for his life.

He worked as a driver for the leader of the PDP, who was murdered when Sunday was driving. “They shot him to death and then burned the car. I escaped to a nearby farm and then hid with my uncle,” he said.

Following this incident the Nigerian government put out a warrant for Sunday’s arrest as he was suspected of killing the man. Sunday shows the journalist a story from the Sunday Observer where he’s wanted by police following the murder.

After spending a few days at his uncle’s house, members of the Boko Haram attacked the home and killed his uncle and his uncle’s son. Sunday fled to a nearby church where he received money to get him away from Nigeria to Libya and onwards to Italy.

Joy Lucky claimed she was a victim of sexual slavery while pregnant with their daughter Mary. Joy describes being approached by a vicar at her local church back in Nigeria who promised to get her a job as a nanny in Europe. ..Once she accepted the offer, she was taken to a building where her hair, and her pubic hair, was cut off and her body washed according to black magic rituals to scare her into compliance.

Their stories appeared to have been taken as cock and bull stories and thus rejected by the Immigration Appeals. The news of the rejection oftheir application met with some furore in Iceland and an online petition was set up for them to be able to stay in the country.

Five Nigerian pilgrims to this year’s hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, have died. The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Abdullahi Mohammed, made the announcement on Tuesday in Makkah, Islam’s holiest city.

Mr. Mohammed, who spoke at the 2017 pre-Arafat meeting with Hajj stakeholders, however, declined to disclosed the identities of the late pilgrims as well as the circumstances that led to their death.

He said such information could only be disclosed after their families had been appropriately informed. The NAHCON chair pleaded with the media to withhold the details so as not to further devastate the families of the affected pilgrims.

South Africa’s Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has criticised African leaders for seeking medical treatment abroad.

Speaking in Zimbabwe at a World Health Organization (WHO) meeting of African health ministers, Mr Motsoaledi said Africa must be the only continent where the leaders travel abroad for health reasons.

He was addressing the conference hours after President Robert Mugabe, who himself makes regular trips to Singapore for eye treatment, opened the meeting. Mugabe had left the event by the time Mr Motsoaledi spoke.

Newsday newspaper quoted South Africa's health minister as saying: "I have said this before and I will say it again: we are the only continent that has its leaders seeking medical services outside the continent, outside our territory. We must be ashamed of that. This is called health tourism. We must promote our own."

In the past year five African heads of state have gone overseas for medical reasons, they are:

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has banned cash payments for passport processing as part of efforts to eliminate corruption at all passport offices nationwide.‎

NIS spokesperson, Sunday James, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja. He‎ said that the Comptroller General of the NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede, has directed that henceforth all payments for passport processing must be done online and through designated banks‎.‎

He said that the NIS boss had, in a circular, directed‎ all passport control officers not to allow cash payments in any of the passport premises. ‎ “All payments in respect to passport processing are to be done by applicants through banks to generate application ID and reference number on the NIS portal and not through an individual or touts,” James said. ‎

According to him, the NIS CG has also ordered an‎ investigation into allegations of passport racketeering at some passport offices in Lagos with a view to sanitising the system.‎ James therefore urged passport applicants to ensure that all categories of Nigerian passports fees were done online. ‎

“Passport applicants are therefore strongly advised to visit the NIS website www.immigration.gov.ng to confirm the approved fees for all categories of Nigerian Passports and age groups before making payments,” he added.

He said that the management of all passport offices have been directed to paste all information required at the premises to guide applicants in line with the executive orders. ‎

He urged Nigerians to direct any complaint or enquiries to 07080607900 and the email address nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng. ‎ The spokesperson advised applicants against patronising touts or agents‎ in order to ensure efficient service delivery. ‎

The NIS boss had vowed to stamp out corruption in the operations of the NIS as part of efforts to reposition the Service and ensure efficient service delivery.

For allegedly stealing a motorcycle impounded by the enforcement unit of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, one Felix Olajide, a paramilitary officer of the Man ‘O’ War group, was yesterday arrested.

Olajide, who was deployed to the enforcement team of the task force to help in sanitising the state, was said to have spurned the core values of the organisation by indulging in crime.

It was gathered that the enforcement team had earlier on Wednesday, August 15, impounded about 95 motorcycles plying restricted routes around Berger area of the state.

However, Olajide had pilfered one of the seized motorcycles, which he gave out for commercial purposes. Confirming the arrest, Wison Alaba, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said after the motorcycles were impounded, they had recounted them at the office and noticed one was missing.

He said: “After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Olajide stole the missing motorcycle despite the huge allowances paid every member of the agency’s paramilitary officers to cater for their needs.”

In his confessional statement, Olajide said: “I stole a motorcycle. I have been using it for commercial purposes before I was arrested with it. It was the devil that pushed me as I have never engaged in criminal activities since I was born.”

He, however, pleaded for leniency and promised never to indulge in any criminality again if pardoned.

Meanwhile Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi granted the accused N30,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum, after he pleaded guilty.

According to the Facebook user, Emmanuel Onuoha, the man pictured above was hit by his wife with a log of wood during an argument in their home about food. The woman blamed her action on annoyance saying she is tired of her husband not fulfilling his promises.


Mr Onuoha wrote; "A woman did this to her husband yesterday, just because of small argument with her about food issue, more over the man lost his job and he has been trying his best to secure a job but she takes it seriously and used log of wood on his head , I pity that woman and may God forgive her If it is you now what will you do ?

Though the case has been settled by friends and family members, they asked the woman to kneel and apologize, the woman said shedid it out of annoyance due to her husband keep doing promise and fail."

The police on Tuesday brought before a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja a 51-year-old landlord, Ishola Idris, and his 35-year-old tenant, Linus Okonkwo, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old housemaid.

The housemaid was said to be living with her guardian on Celestial Road, Igando, Lagos, where the incident happened. Both Idris and Okonkwo were arraigned on two counts bordering on child defilement and sexual assault, which they pleaded not guilty to.

The landlord allegedly deflowered the girl, ‘sodomised’ her and turned her to a intimacy gadget. He also allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she ever told anybody. It was learnt that the minor confessed under pressure when blood was spotted in her anus.

The two counts preferred against the defendants read, “That you, Ishola Idris, sometime in January 2017, on Celestial Road, Igando, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile one 13-year-old child (name withheld) by having sexual intercourse with her.

That you, Linux Okonkwo, sometime in March 2017, on Celestial Road, Igando, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully sexually assault one 13-year -old by penetrating into her private parts.”

The alleged crime, according to the police, is punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Magistrate, Bolanle Osunsanmi, granted each of them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum. The matter was adjourned till October 12, 2017 for trial.

England Women's Football Star Accuses Coach of Racist Jibe About Ebola and Her Nigerian Family

England women’s football star Eniola Aluko yesterday claimed she was subjected to a ‘racist’ jibe about the ebola virus from the head coach.

The 30-year-old striker alleged she was ‘intimidated and shocked’ by the comments from Mark Sampson about her family in Nigeria contracting the killer disease.

The shocking claim follows her allegations that she was bullied by Sampson and that he made a remark with ‘racial connotations’ to another mixed-race player. Mr Sampson and the Football Association have always vehemently denied Miss Aluko’s accusations.

But questions arose last week about why she received an £80,000 settlement by the FA after making the claims. Yesterday, Miss Aluko further alleged she had been subjected to a ‘racist comment’ by the England coach before a match against Germany in 2014.

‘I found myself next to Mark Sampson and he asked me which family members were coming,’ she told the BBC. ‘I said, “I’ve got family coming in from Nigeria.” And he said, “Make sure they don’t come over with ebola.”

I laughed because I was in shock. I didn’t know what to say. ‘I’m used to industrial language, used to a bit of banter, a bit of a joke – but that was about my family. I believe it was said to me because I am of African descent and my family is coming over from Nigeria at the time.

"I believe it was an unfavourable comment made to me that made me feel completely shocked and intimidated that was said to me because I’m of African descent.’
Mr Sampson strongly denies saying this, the BBC reported. The England veteran said she has been ‘victimised’ for speaking out against discrimination.

She first made her bullying complaint in May 2016, but was dropped from the squad soon afterwards and was not part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the European Championship this summer.
