Chioma and Innocent Anozie, have been arrested for allegedly torturing an 11-year-old girl, Oluchi, in Ebute, Ibafo, Ogun State.

According to Reports, the couple allegedly flogged the victim with ropes, starved her of food, and locked her up in a toilet for two days for wanting to play with other children in the neighbourhood.

The primary four pupil started living with the couple about four years ago when she was brought from her hometown in Owerri, Imo State. However, she was said to have been subjected to different forms of inhuman treatment by the childless couple.

Most residents said Chioma, in particular, always tortured the victim for every offence. The landlady of their house, Mrs. Florence Sanusi, noted that cries of the victim always filled the compound each time Chioma assaulted her.

When interrogated, Oluchi said: "When I was brought from the village four years ago, she said I would be cleaning the house and washing clothes and dishes. I am supposed to be in Junior Secondary School 2, but she put me in primary 4.

She stopped me from going out. She said all the people in this house are criminals and they can use me for money ritual. She always beats me with ropes and cables. I have been inside the toilet since Thursday.

She locked me up because I went to take a story book in her room. She said I was lying and that I actually went to look for keys to open the door and go out. She used celotape to seal my mouth and chained my legs.

She flogged me with ropes and a stick. She said I would serve 21 punishments. I only took garri on Thursday morning.” The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

A Nigerian national living in India has reportedly jumped to his death while trying to evade arrest for drug related offences.

According to reports from the Asian nation, following a tip-off, police had raided a flat (pictured) in Chattarpur area of south Delhi where Cyprian Ama Ogbonnaya resides on Thursday.

Ogbonnaya, who was alleged to be involved in smuggling heroin and LSD in huge quantity, had in fear of arrest jumped from the fourth floor, dying instantly. Reports claimed two women, who were also Nigerian nationals, were found in the house and have been arrested.

Police were said to have discovered 25 kg ‘Ketamine’ drugs valued Rs 20 crore [about N1,131,221,850.00] in the international market in the flat. “Sensing trouble after seeing the police party, Ogbonnaya and one of the women tried to jump from the window of the fourth floor in order to escape but the woman was caught while Ogbonnaya succeeded in jumping but got injured.

He was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where doctors declared him dead,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma said in India.com report. “They were smuggling drugs like heroin and LSD in heavy quantity to their contacts in south Delhi and National Capital Region.

Ogbonnaya was very popular amongst his customers. Girls too were indulging in smuggling and trading drug. The raiding party found three of them were consuming heroin. The women have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.”

A five-storey building has collapsed around Sulugambari road in Ilorin, Kwara State. The building which is being constructed as a hotel, collapsed on Friday morning, injuring three workers. Although no causality has been recorded yet, but the injured workers have been taken to the hospital.

Wobegist also gathered that the building was in a complex housing five buildings of four storey each while construction was still going on.

It was gathered that two of the workers on construction site sustained minor injury while the injury sustained by the third worker was reportedly serious.

They were said to have all been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

A student of Unilorin, Joy William who witnessed the collapse narrated the incident, saying, “We were inside the room, then we heard a very loud noise and I went out. That was when the building just collapsed. It happened this afternoon. We heard somebody shouting ‘help, help’ and people rushed to his rescue. They rescued one person and later rescued the second person. The third person was badly injured. They rushed the three of them to the nearest hospital.

“The collapsed section of the building is a mosque but the back side is an apartment. The workers were the ones that did the rescue work, there was no external person or equipment to rescue the people that were shouting for help. The workers have been on the site for about five months now. This is a new building”, she said.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it had arrested a woman for allegedly killing her three-day-old baby.

The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in the state, Idirisu Kennedy, said the police on Monday received report of a dead body of a baby in Kaderko.

He said policemen through intelligence report arrested the culprit, Mwuese Keleve, who turned out to be the mother of the deceased child. She confessed to committing the crime, but did not gave any reason for her action.

Kennedy said as soon as the police completed their investigation, the woman would be charged to court. He said: “Based on preliminary investigation, the woman is sane and has admitted to committing the crime.”

Fanen Peter, husband of the woman, and father to the deceased baby, said what his wife did “beat my imagination”. Peter explained that they had been married for 15 years with two children and that the deceased was supposed to be their third child.

An herbalist in Osun State, Usman Mohammed, has been arrested by policemen in Edo State for duping his victim of N6 million. The victim allegedly gave the herbalist the money and asked him to help increase it to N12million.

Mohammed told journalists at the Edo State police command headquarters that his victim was duped because she was looking for “what she did not keep.” The herbalist confirmed that he received N3million from the N6million while he shared the remaining to other members of his team.

He said: “I live in Osun State. I was arrested in Osun State. She is from Benin. She patronized my office because I do medicine for her. Before she requested for money ritual, she said I should do something to make her business to grow.

When she requested for money rituals I said she must bring the money. She said she has N6 million. I told her to bring a big bag and the money. I told her to keep the bag somewhere and the money will double to N12 million. That was what she requested for.

She kept the bag in her room for three days and the day she opened it, there was no money inside. I told her she was responsible for the inability of the money to increase. I got N3million. Other people ran away. She is looking for what she did not keep. She is ole (thief).”

A farmer at Odighi village, Edo State, identified as Moses Erutuya, has been arrested for killing one Jonathan who stole his plantain. Moses said the deceased had been stealing from him since 2007. He said he killed Jonathan by hitting him with a stick.

His words, “I started the farm in 1998. In 2007, while waiting for the plantain to mature, somebody went there and stole 60 bunches. I complained and was told nobody will guard my farm for me. Since then, I have been monitoring the farm.

Luck ran against him this 2017 when he stole 35 bunches. I traced him to where he wanted to sell them. He said the plantain was not mine. He stole seven bunches from my farm. I asked him to go and show me where he got others.

On our way, he stopped. The wood he used to hold his bike, I took it and hit him on the head and he died. His family was looking for him. They came to me and I told them I left him to go but I later took them to where the body is. I want government to forgive me.”

According to TheNation, the State Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, said the suspect would soon be charged to court.

Bakare Olalekan, 35, while being paraded by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illiyasu, confessed that he bought human hearts from a friend, Oye, for “good luck charm.”

According to Guardian, Olalekan said he bought the hearts after Oye told him that he needed a charm for prosperity. He said Oye told him that he would need a human heart, which is a major ingredient in the preparation of the charm.

His words: “He (Oye) later sold three human hearts to me and he used one of them to prepare the charm for me. I later sold the remaining two to a suspect who is also being detained.”

The Police Commissioner disclosed that Olalekan was part of a four-man syndicate that was arrested for killing a 16-year-old girl, Olayinka Adebayo, last year August.

At least 41 Nigerians were on Thursday deported from six European countries for immigration and related offences. The deportees came from Austria, Germany, Hungry, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark.

According to TheNation, a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) source said the deportees comprised 35 males and six females. The source said the 41 people were deported for overstaying in the European countries. They were picked from different cities in the six countries.

A Malaysian man has been charged with more than 600 sex assaults against his daughter, and could face a jail term of over 12,000 years if found guilty, officials said Thursday.

Court officials took two days to read out all 626 charges against the 36-year-old divorcee, and finished Thursday afternoon. They included 599 charges of sodomy against the 15-year-old girl, as well as counts of incest, rape and other sex crimes.

The bespectacled suspect, in a grey T-shirt and blue trousers was calm when the charges were read in court. He pleaded not guilty and the case will now proceed to trial.

"He faces a prison sentence of over 12,000 years," Aimi Syazwani, a deputy public prosecutor, told AFP at a newly-established special court for sex crimes against children in the administrative capital Putrajaya.

For each charge of sodomy, the man can be punished with a maximum jail term of 20 years, as well as caning. He faces a rape charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, and 30 other charges of sexual assault, each punishable by up to 20 years in jail.

Judge Yong Zarida Sazali denied the man bail after prosecutors warned there was a danger of him fleeing or intimidating witnesses. The man, who sold investment products, was arrested on July 26 after the girl's mother lodged a police report.

The offences were allegedly committed between January and July this year, when the daughter was living with her father. The special court for sexual crimes against children was launched in June.

A Kenyan female politician showed her son that she was not only older than him in age, she is also more experienced and more popular politically. Kipng’etich Kones, the son of a late Cabinet Minister Kipkalya Kones, who ran in the Kenyan parliamentary election lost to his mother, Beatrice Kones.

Beatrice Kone beat her son and seven other contestants when she polled 22,796 votes against her son’s 2,410 votes. Kipng’etich who contested on a Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) ticket got a lot of support from outgoing Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, while his mother contested on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Many residents of Bomet East, the constituency of the family, said the family battle was not blessed. Others said the rivalry was a depiction of democracy and showed maturity as far as politics is concerned.

According to Kenyan news website, Daily Nation, the area overwhelmingly voted for Jubilee and it might be a reason why Kones lost to his mum. It was one of the most watched duels in the elections since it pitted members of a nuclear family and the outcome was eagerly awaited.

One of the residents of the area was quoted by a local daily saying the result should be a lesson to all young people. “You can never rise against your parent, especially your mother and expect to succeed.

When my mother speaks I go down on my knees,” said Mr Hezron Tangus, a Bomet East resident. A political analyst and lecturer at Laikipia University said it was culturally suicidal to compete against.
