Goddex: [size=14pt]It is extremely courageous of APC admitting it's government had been on internship doing trial and error with Lagos people's money. Bisi Akande should now tell Nigerians who then is running a kindergarten administration - APC or PDP?

Besides, 8 billion naira goes down the drain under some 'trial and error' circumstances and nobody is punished nor made to lose their jobs for a scandal of this magnitude?

What even surprises me is the way the APC spokesperson seems not to give a damn about the scandal - justifying 'mistakes' without any form of remorse atleast considering the colossal sum involved.

Again, he must tell Nigerians the whereabouts of the two helicopters. The media must follow up on this and not let it die.

Some people wait in line for five hours just to get their fix at Austin’s famous Franklin Barbecue. And who can blame them? The establishment is less than 10 years old but has been cited as the nation’s best.

Of course, President Obama is not “some people.” After a campaign-style speech in Austin on Thursday afternoon, the commander in chief made a stop by Franklin Barbecue and was quickly ushered to the front of the line.

It’s common practice to let a president cut to the front of the line at a dining establishment. After all, the president arguably has the busiest schedule on the planet. Plus, having a president standing in one place only creates headaches for everyone else who is just trying to get some food.

The real etiquette test comes in how the president and his staff carry themselves after cutting to the front of the line.

In this case, it seems Obama handled himself well — paying for the meals of the two customers behind him in line — Bruce Finsted and his daughter Faith.

Then again, when he saw how big their order was, even the most powerful man in the world was caught off guard: three pounds of beef, two pounds of ribs, a half pound of sausage and a half pound of turkey.

Nairaland GeneralInteresting Facts About The Earth by thunderrider(op): 1:59pm On Jul 11, 2014
1 Our home, Earth, is the third planet from the sun and the only world known to support an atmosphere with free oxygen, oceans of liquid water on the surface and — the big one — life.

2 It's not a perfect sphere. As Earth spins, gravity points toward the center of our planet (assuming for explanation's sake that Earth is a perfect sphere), and a centrifugal force pushes outward. But since this gravity-opposing force acts perpendicular to the axis of Earth, and Earth's axis is tilted, centrifugal force at the equator is not exactly opposed to gravity. This imbalance adds up at the equator, where gravity pushes extra masses of water and earth into a bulge, or "spare tire" around our planet

3 She's Got a Waistline

Mother Earth has a generous waistline: At the equator, the circumference of the globe is 24,901 miles (40,075 kilometers).

4 You may feel like you're standing still, but you're actually moving — fast. Depending on where you are on the globe, you could be spinning through space at just over 1,000 miles per hour. People on the equator move the fastest, while someone standing on the North or South pole would be perfectly still. (Imagine a basketball spinning on your finger. A random point on the ball's equator has farther to go in a single spin as a point near your finger. Thus, the point on the equator is moving faster.)

5 Treks Around the Sun

Oh yeah, and the Earth isn't just spinning: It's also moving around the sun at 67,000 miles (107,826 km) per hour.

6 It's Old

Researchers calculate the age of the Earth by dating both the oldest rocks on the planet and meteorites that have been discovered on Earth (meteorites and Earth formed at the same time, when the solar system was forming). Their findings? Earth is about 4.54 billion years old.

7 Gets Recycled

The ground you're walking on is recycled. Earth's rock cycle transforms igneous rocks to sedimentary rocks to metamorphic rocks and back again. The cycle isn’t a perfect circle, but the basics work like this: Magma from deep in the Earth emerges and hardens into rock (that's the igneous part). Tectonic processes uplift that rock to the surface, where erosion shaves bits off. These tiny fragments get deposited and buried, and the pressure from above compacts them into sedimentary rocks such as sandstone. If sedimentary rocks get buried even deeper, they "cook" into metamorphic rocks under lots of pressure and heat. Along the way, of course, sedimentary rocks can be re-eroded or metamorphic rocks re-uplifted. But if metamorphic rocks get caught in a subduction zone where one piece of crust is pushing under another, they may find themselves transformed back into magma

8 Our Moon Quakes
Moonquakes, or "earthquakes" on the moon, do occur, though they are less common and less intense than those that shake Earth. According to USGS scientists, moonquakes seem to be related to tidal stresses associated with the varying distance between the Earth and moon. Moonquakes also tend to occur at great depths, about midway between the lunar surface and its center.

9 Hot Spot

The fiery award for Earth's hottest spot goes to El Azizia, Libya, where temperature records from weather stations reveal it hit 136 degrees Fahrenheit (57.8 degrees Celsius) on Setp. 13, 1922, according to NASA Earth Observatory. There have likely been hotter locations beyond the network of weather stations. (The image was created from data collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite.)

10 Coldest Spot

It may come as no surprise that the coldest place on Earth can be found in Antarctica, but the chill factor is somewhat unbelievable. Winter temperatures there can drop below minus 100 degrees F (minus 73 degrees C). The lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth came from Russia's Vostok Station, where records show the air plunged to a bone-chilling minus 128.6 degrees F (minus 89.2 degrees C) on July 21,1983, according to the USGS.

TravelHotel Valet Crash And Destroy A Guest's Lamborghini by thunderrider(op): 1:43pm On Jul 11, 2014
This might be one of the biggest valet fails in quite some time, as a valet at the five-star Le Meridien hotel in Delhi, India, caused an estimated $335,000 worth of damage by heavily crashing a guest's Lamborghini. The images of the aftermath have been floating around the internet for a few days, but now the closed-circuit TV footage of the incident has surfaced. And what it shows is quite something.

The car in question is a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, reportedly owned by a Mumbai businessman. The machine typically retails for around $250,000 here in America, however in places like Asia, import taxes often double the costs -- hence the owner claiming such lofty repair bills.

The valet in question was taken to hospital after the crash and treated for minor head injuries, and currently remains on leave. He has worked in the valet business for 10 years, according to a hotel spokeswoman.

PoliticsMexican Train Derails With 1,000 Illegal Immigrants Riding On Top by thunderrider(op): 1:37pm On Jul 11, 2014
A Mexican train carrying more than 1,000 illegal immigrants derailed en route to the Texas border area. The cargo train was transporting both Central Americans and Mexican adults and children hoping to enter the United States illegally and surrender themselves to Border Patrol agents, Reuters reports.

None of the illegal immigrants about the Mexican train were injured when it derailed. The train came off the tracks in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca on Wednesday. Many of the people riding on top of the train cars were young children and teenagers. The trains, which are believed to be used by coyotes to shuttle illegal migrants to America, travel through rural and rugged terrain, but many feel they are still easy to spot — and ultimately stop.

The train many illegal immigrants are using is referred to as La Bestia — The Beast. Mexican authorities think The Beast may have derailed due to several days of heavy rain in the area. Those attempting to cross over the Texas border illegally found themselves stranded and forced to go on foot if they were to reach their goal.
