PoliticsRe: Protest: Organisers Reject IGP’s Proposal For Confined Protest by Timmi: 8:33am On Jul 31, 2024
Kobojunkiee:
Agberos do exactly that, block roads, every day in Lagos, and I have never read of the IGP giving them the same or similar suggestions. The many protesters protesting against the protest -- something that only happens in a fked up world by the way --- have been blocking roads with recourse. The recent invocation of Oro Blocked Road for many for a period of 10 days straight. So what exactly is this advice for? . undecided
The so-called agberos when and if they do that is for a short time and will not attack people for coming through their rank and is for hustling for daily bread.

When you and your people protest, you do it in an uncivilized manner. Other citizens not joining in your protest are attacked for trying to navigate through the road that your people blocked or trying to go to their offices that your people blocked.

Again, your right to protest stop when your prevent other citizen from going about their daily business.

As long as you and your co-protesters keep to your lane and not infringing on their citizens right, then you can protest for as long as you want and come with your children, sibling and all your village people.

These nincompoops have yet to realize that the fact that the protest could be hijacked by unscrupulous elements is all the more reason why people need to go out to protest the incompetence and ineptitude of the government in arresting the security situation in the country. undecided

How can a whole IGP of Police come out bold-faced to tell people not to protest for fear that criminal elements could take advance of the opportunity? Isn't that clear proof that you, as an IGP, have failed in your responsibilities? Why is the Police trying to push what is his responsibility on the people looking to freely exercise their right to protest? undecided
The IGP only offer his advise. You are free to take to the street to protest but remember you cannot block roads, access to offices, etc because you will be trespassing on other people’s right to free movement. Your freedom stops where or when you step on my own toes.

It is a common knowledge to the citizens about the laundering of currency. You don’t need to belong to any security agencies to know it.

The issue that Interpol and sister agencies need to address is knowing this with evidence, what are they doing to stop and arrest the perpetrators.

I don’t think it will be far fetched to infer that these agencies are benefiting from these illegal laundering. They are complicit in it or what is hampering them from doing something about it.

It is obvious you lack comprehension. No one and again I say no one is against peaceful protest, however your right to protest stops when you are stepping on other peoples right to freedom of movement and going about their daily business. Blocking roads and blocking access to offices, markets, banks is infringing on other peoples right.

Mr. Phipex, let the truth be told, the protesters were confronted with force when they block roads and access to offices thereby infringing on the right of the many citizens that refused to join the protest. Your right to protest stops when it infringes on my right not joining the protest but want to have free movement for my daily bread.

So why is Bayo attacking Peter Obi? Did Obi say that there should be violent protest?
Go back and read Bayo’s write up instead of listening to what others said that Bayo said. Bayo simply said that since PandoraObi has now declared his support for the protest, he should come out and lead the protest like Tinubu, Soyinka and others did when they joined a protest. If I may add, let OBI recalled his children from overseas to join with him in leading the protest.

Youths better be wise, the people calling for and supporting the protest are in hiding and their children definitely are not in Nigeria. Sowore man already in the USA said he will join virtually and not be present.

Mohammed Doki, you are not protesting but now become a nuisance and an enemy of the citizen, because you step out of bound of your right to protest but now infringing on the right of larger population to freedom of movement. The Police and the Military need to deal with this one ruthlessly as an example.

Yes, you have the right to protest but have no right by infringing on the right of others to free movement and freedom to go about their daily business

The difference between Ajuri and Bayo Onanuga is very clear.

Bayo Onanuga na mumu extraordinaire.
Both are saying the same thing. You have a right to peaceful protest while I also have a right not to join the protest. Your protest should not block roads nor access to offices - both public and private, for doing so is an infringement on my own right. As long as we are clear on that and understand where your right stops.

I know the Nigeria government doesn't not have clean hands, neither am i foolish enough to think DR will sell us cheaper petrol.
They are both using Nigerians as pawns to enrich themselves. If DR has other buyers in Africa, lets see him perform Magic. Let him sell to Benin republic/Cotonou at a cheaper price, let him prove us all wrong.
Listen, haven’t DR proof it by crashing diesel from 1700 to 1100? What other proof do you want, and by the way DR did same for jet fuel. Like I said keep deceiving yourself and be a pawn in the hand of cabals stealing our collective money through subsidy. Just give DR two months, and you witness petro shipment to neighboring countries in Africa. By the way, DR will also be listed on the NSE for people like you to be part owners of this great company.

Same thing should be applied to Nigeria also. If protesters block roads or access to offices both public and private, then they are trespassing and infringing on the right of other citizens and hence the security agencies should be brought in to enforce law and order and ensure other citizens not participating in the protest should have free movement for their daily living.

The first purpose of Nigerian crude oil is to finance the country. If you are o choose between your salary and fuel to buy. I am sure you will choose your salary.
The government has contracts with people buying crud oil for years. They cannot cut off all these people and now rely on Dangote.
Dangote is a virgin in the refining world. He has zero experience.
Its better for him to run for at least a year before we put the lives of Nigerians in his hands.
Now we have people buying crude-Outsiders
We buy Petrol from another place- Outsiders

But you are asking us to sell crude to Dangote and buy petrol from Dangote who just started refining yesterday. Thats too much to rely on one individual. 300 million Nigerians feed on crude oil sales.

If we give Dangote all these market and anything goes wrong, the whole country is in big trouble. My advice is he should be tested slowly, sell him a third of crude he needs, let him source the rest and buy a third of petrol he produces....slowly overtime we can increase the quotas.
DR is not asking to be the sole source for refined product just like DR didn’t ask to be sole source for diesel. DR supplied diesel and crashed the market, hence it’s up to the marketers to import or be purchasing it from DR. We’ve seen the effect of DR on diesel, but we are playing games with petrol because some cabals that are and have been benefiting from subsidy didn’t want DR to enter into the competition and crashed cost of petrol.

The same IOC that we are selling crude oil to, are they not same company that we are buying refined oil from? So your argument didn’t hold any water. Let them keep deceiving you while you are deceiving yourself also.

We, Nigerians are the one loosing, DR is not loosing at all. DR is buying crude from overseas and has willing buyers within the Africa continent. It’s unfortunate that the main purpose for setting up the refinery is been defeated not by outsiders, not by colonial masters but same Nigerians and denying the common man of buying petrol at reduced prices.

All those people shouting Dangote refinery is going to make prices cheaper.

"He plans to sell at international rates, meaning government will buy it expensive from him and subsidized it for the citizens."

He is a 100% Businessman.
Dont let them drag you into their challenges.
These people dont care about us.
The reason is obvious, Nigeria refused to sell Dangote refinery crude oil, hence the refinery is importing crude oil from USA, Brazil, etc. The cost reduction was to come from transportation costs of crude oil on one hand and refined oil to Nigeria. We (Nigerians) are our own worst enemy.

PoliticsRe: Threathning Protesters Undermines President Tinubu's Legacy- Amnesty Intl. Says by Timmi: 2:22pm On Jul 28, 2024
Magnetic65:
Threatening Protesters Undermines President Tinubu's Legacy - Amnesty Intl. Says

Amnesty International has expressed grave concerns over the Nigerian government's recent crackdown on protesters, stating that such actions threaten to undermine President Bola Tinubu's legacy. The human rights organization highlighted instances of intimidation, harassment, and arrests of peaceful demonstrators across the country, urging the government to respect citizens' rights to freedom of expression and assembly.

Amnesty International's statement comes in the wake of a series of nationwide protests against various socio-economic issues, including rising unemployment, inflation, and perceived corruption within the government. Despite the largely peaceful nature of these protests, security forces have been accused of using excessive force to disperse crowds, resulting in several injuries and arrests.

"Threatening and intimidating protesters not only violates their fundamental human rights but also tarnishes the democratic values that President Tinubu's administration claims to uphold," said Osai Ojigho, Amnesty International's Director in Nigeria. "We call on the Nigerian government to immediately cease these oppressive actions and ensure the safety and freedom of its citizens to express their grievances peacefully."

Here is the video below:

https://tvi.la/HkzDyrqA36E

The organization's report detailed several incidents where protesters were allegedly beaten, tear-gassed, and unlawfully detained by security personnel. In response, the Nigerian government has maintained that these measures are necessary to maintain public order and safety.

However, critics argue that such actions are counterproductive and only serve to fuel public discontent. "President Tinubu has an opportunity to leave a lasting positive legacy by listening to the voices of the people and addressing their concerns constructively," said political analyst Dr. Ibrahim Suleiman. "Resorting to force only deepens the divide and erodes trust in the government."

As the protests continue to gain momentum, the international community is closely watching Nigeria's handling of the situation. Many believe that how the Tinubu administration responds to these challenges will significantly impact its reputation both domestically and globally.

Amnesty International has called for an independent investigation into the allegations of human rights abuses and urged the government to hold those responsible accountable. The organization also emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution in addressing the root causes of the protests.

In a country that has long struggled with political instability and socio-economic challenges, the current unrest poses a significant test for President Tinubu's leadership. The world waits to see whether his administration will uphold democratic principles or continue down a path that threatens to mar his legacy.
Please where and when was the crackdown that this organization referred to. Please cite one or be silence and not create any havoc. Rather, if you are sincere and want peace, then educate those protesting to know and realize that their right to pretense ands when they trample on other people’s right to free movement and not associate with their protest. It is then that the protest will be peaceful.
