An aid to former governor Chief Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State, Barr. Jonah Okah who is undergoing trial at Okaka prison in Yenagoa has fingered incumbent Governor Henry Seriake Dickson on his ordeal. Barr Okah who is a civil servant in the state was arrested in Yenagoa on August 31 by the police and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly defaming the Government House accountant, Mr. Richard Etonye, in a Facebook post. The post in question involved an alleged conversation between Okah, a former aide to Sylva, and Etonye regarding a purported missing $4.6 million said to belong to Dickson. The accused was arraigned before a magistrate court on 1 September 2016, and charged with criminal libel and intent to breach public peace, a charge he pleaded not guilty to. Okah’s prosecuting counsel objected to the bail application filed by his counsel, the magistrate, Pere Bossa, adjourned the case for hearing till to 20th September when the bail application would be considered and ordered him remanded in prison. Barr Okah has however, accused Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State for orchestrating his arrest and subsequent prosecution noting that the governor has not hidden his bias, interest, and direct involvement in the matter and said its insults everything the judiciary stands for. Okah issued a press statement on Monday, September 5, from Okaka prison in Yenagoa bashing the Bayelsa State governor for his alleged support and sponsorship of the case against him. The press statement reads: “Since my arrest on August 31 and subsequent unconstitutional detention/remand at Okaka prison in Yenagoa over an alleged defamatory post on Facebook about the chief accountant of Government House, Yenagoa, one Richard Etonye, said to be a cousin of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, the state government has issued a series of press statements on the matter. “The government has tried to make it a political issue between two civil servants, Richard Etonye against Jonah Okah, while at the same time claiming that I am being sponsored by former Governor Timipre Sylva and the All Progressive Congress. This is a blatant fabrication meant to give me a bad name and try to justify the government’s deliberate agenda of persecution against me and others in the state that hold contrary views. “The falsehood vended by the state government has also tried to hide the fact that the said post did not originate the controversial story, it was merely a commentary on an alleged financial scam that was already in the public domain, having being published by at least a national newspaper and an online news medium. “Let me state categorically that neither Chief Timipre Sylva nor APC has a hand in the issue, which the Dickson government has, interestingly, also admitted is a matter between two civil servants. But despite that admission, and contrary to a statement by the governor’s aide that “Mr. “Jonah Okah is not being prosecuted by the state government,” and that the “state government is not an interested party in the matter,” the government has made a calculated attempt to magnify and make the matter appear as a political case. The governor has not hidden his bias, interest, and direct involvement in the matter. Governor Dickson has shown clearly that he is behind my ordeal in this phantom case of defamation. “For the avoidance of doubt, the charge preferred against me is defamation in a Facebook post and misdemeanor, allegations that I am most justifiably innocent of. Besides, this is not a criminal case, but a civil one, which the government is manipulating to score a cheap political point. The issue at hand is a private matter bothering on alleged civil wrong. However, the legal and judicial processes are being compromised by restricting a free flow of justice in an unjust manner. “If the “state government is not an interested party,” as claimed, and Governor Dickson is not the one levering this persecution against me, then: “1. In a case of misdemeanor between two civil servants, what is the state government’s interest in clamping down on me with a contingent of armed security personnel? “2. In a case of defamation involving two civil servants, what is government’s interest in directing a non-civil servant, political appointee, and Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary to write a petition against me to the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, claiming that I defamed one Richard Etonye? Whose interest was my illegal arrest meant to serve? “3. What is government’s interest in releasing three press statements against me over a matter involving two civil servants? “4. Why was I arraigned on a curious day and time outside the sitting schedule of the magistrate and, subsequently, remanded in prison in a manner not prescribed by law, while several suspects in criminal cases are being remanded at various police stations across the state? “The magistrate’s sitting days, according to her schedule, are normally only Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But she was influenced by the state government to sit on that Thursday, September 1, 2016 just to keep me behind bars and deny me “adequate time and facilities” for the preparation of my defence, as guaranteed under section 36 (6) (b) of the 1999 Constitution. “The intention of these ambassadors of ridicule is to rob me of the good name and integrity I have worked hard to build. They are simply out to not only humiliate and embarrass me, but also insult my integrity, legal profession and personality. “5. What is government’s interest in hiring the pro-Dickson government medium, AIT, specifically to cover and give the widest publicity to the attempt to portray me as a common criminal? Interestingly, it has become a trademark of the government of Governor Dickson to malign and incarcerate perceived close associates of former Governor Timipre Sylva. “6. Why is there a delegation of state counsels representing one party in a civil matter of defamation involving two civil servants? “These are questions begging for answer. “This chain of illegal activities by the Bayelsa State government is, clearly, a calculated persecution of former close aides of Chief Timipre Sylva who are perceived as still loyal to him. The government should stop exposing the Bayelsa State judiciary to public ridicule and crisis of confidence by interfering with the judicial process, as it has openly displayed so far. “The world is watching with keen interest the orchestrated trial of Mr. Jonah Okah in Bayelsa State. Everyone knows I am innocent until proven guilty, as provided by section 36 (5) of 1999 Constitution (as amended). “The party – the Government House accountant Richard Etonye – who feels affected by a media publication and a harmless comment on the basis of the publication should be free to express his constitutional, legal and human rights in court as provided by law. But the attempt by the Dickson government to hold one party down and sponsor his prosecution and persecution on behalf of the other party, while manipulating the judicial process for maximum effect, is to say the least frightening. It insults everything the judiciary stands for,” Okah said. The arrest and prosecution of Barrister Jonah Okah has fueled reactions from the camp of Chief Timipre Sylva and his party, the All Progressives Congress, Bayelsa State, calling it an executive interference with the judiciary. The accused in due back in court on September 20 and NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM will be live in court to give full details on the matter. http://nextnewslive.com/sylvas-aid-governor-dickson-behind-my-arrest-and-trial-okah/

Cars are of the most beautiful luxuries cherished man and good cars often requires bold decisions to acquire them as in trying do so attracts extraordinary sacrifice to make. The dream to drive one of the world most beautiful car that goes by the name, Vintage Maserati Ghibli Spyder is one only few people are oppurtuned to drive right now. The Ghibli is perhaps the most legendary streetcar of Maserati. It was first unveiled at a motor show in Turin in 1966. The first few years, the Ghibli was only available as a coupé. In 1969, Maserati released the convertible Ghibli, the Spyder. The car we have on offer was delivered in Switzerland as a coupé in 1968, where it stayed until it was brought to the Netherlands in 2014. It was converted into a Spyder by the Modena-based Carrozzeria Campana. It is impossible to determine exactly when this happened. It is rumoured that Campana also built Maserati’s first Spyder prototype. This gorgeous Spyder has been fully restored including all its mechanicals. This dream car runs wonderfully and still has its original engine. The cost to one of these cars ranges from $384,179 to $407,632. Report from Ogboia local government area of Bayelsa state, South-South Nigeria and former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s birthplace is at loggerhead with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) operating in the area. NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM gathered that, the refusal by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to honor an invitation by House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition against their frequent activities along the Kolo Creek River, Ogbia LGA Bayelsa on Sunday brought the indigenes from the area one-on-one with the company as there was serious blockade which crippled economic activities in the area . Our correspondent from Yenagoa reported that, the decision to halt SPDC operation yesterday was to further demonstrate and exposed the Company’s neglect to the welfare and safe environment of their host Communities. The more compelling reason again was as a result of the refusal of SPDC to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition which has previously invited them on three consecutive occasions which SPDC is yet honor. It was however, this inhumane treatment and unprofessional attitude exhibited by SPDC that prompted the leadership of Imotel Youth Union and Youths of Kolo Creek to express their grievances and used the medium to call the attention of Federal Government, Bayelsa State Government and other relevant agencies to call SPDC to order to save their environment which is their only means of livelihood. More drama unfolding as the people of Bayelsa State are subjected to public riddle as news on $4.6m linger on for three days. There have been accusations and canter accusations from pro and anti government supporters pouring tantrums on each other over alleged missing state funds to the tune of four million dollars ($4.6m) purportedly carted away by Mr Richard Etonye, a government house accountant and a relative to Governor Henry Dickson. NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM and other news agencies reported the drama at the Bayelsa State Government House, Creek Heaven Yenagoa days ago and there ‘ve been series of media attention on the issue. There were reports early this morning about Mr Richard Etonye purportedly debunking the rumor stating he was on official duty with his Excellency, Henry Seriake Dickson. In our resolve to put records straight, our correspondent in Yenagoa, spoke with a close associate with the man in the middle of the imbroglio this afternoon. In a phone chat with our source at 03:41PM Nigerian time today , August 28, it was gathered that, the said government house accountant, Mr Richard Etonye was still in creek heaven Yenagoa performing official duties for the state government. NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM can authoritatively confirm that, our source who is not in anyway connected with the People Democratic Party’s led government in the state gave the revelations based on close business relationship with Mr Etonye and said all of this overheated problem started when his country home was ransacked while he was on official duty with the governor. Though, government’s rebuttal earlier condemned the raid on Mr Richard Etonye’s country home and denied all allegations on the accountant. Another source on the same issue fingered the Inspector General of Police on the said raid and key reasons believed to have fueled the combing of the resident situated at the Brass road in Yenagoa was also related to storage of arms and ammunition at the private residence. What NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM is not certain yet at the time of filing this report is the true outcome of the raid concerning all trump up allegations as all efforts to reach the police to give clarification on the issue proved abortive. The $4.6million saga is a major one in recent times as workers battle government on payment of salaries. http://nextnewslive.com/more-revealing-facts-on-richard-etonye-and-missing-4-6m/

Also a welder from Kalabari, Rivers States, an eye witness at the crime scene who NEXTNEWSLIVE would not want to declare identity due to the nature of the case right now, painted a clear picture of how Innocent Kokorifa was murdered. The welder said, Innocent Kokorifa was walking back home when a the police van came in their Nigerian usual way to raid people without any offence. He said, everyone ran except Innocent who was few metres away from them and all they could see and hear from afar was a gun shot with Innocent bowing to his knees and failing down as a prey in the hands of a predator and in a twinkle of an eye, the police van zoomed off with Innocent Kokorifa to an unknown destination and was surprised and shocking to hear they killed him because he resisted arrest by exchanging fire with them. The eyewitness narrated that Innocent Kokorifa was one teenager he could vouch for at any given time because he was full of respect for elders and constituted authority and short of words on how an harmless boy was murdered in cold blood with so much allegations leveled against him even at death. She told me that “the environment was peaceful and there was no cause for alarm until the Police in Jean and polo shirts came and shot a gun that was aimed at a small boy. —–Steve Visser US ——-Border Patrol agents in California hit a jackpot this week in terms of cash seizures: $3 million. For the agency that deals with border security, it was a major intercept of smuggled cash. The Border Patrol noted most of its past seizures has been in smaller amounts: $300,000, $51,000 and $43,000. “This is one of our larger cash seizures,” said Ralph DeSio, spokesman for the San Diego office of US Customs and Border Protection. Normally, he said, the big figure reported is the value of confiscated drugs. Currency smuggling and money laundering are the lifeblood for the Mexican cartels moving the majority of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine across the US border as well as for human traffickers. If the sophisticated gangs can’t get their tens of millions of dollars in cash home each year, the US market wouldn’t be nearly as attractive. And California is central to those type of activities, experts say. Los Angeles is known as the nation’s “epicenters” for money laundering by international drug cartels, federal officials said in 2014, after raiding businesses and seizing an estimated $100 million in cash and from bank accounts around the world. San Diego is a major hub for actually trafficking the proceeds from illicit activities, DeSio said. The money was found in a Volkswagen Passat, he said, a car not as likely to attract attention. The $3 million, however, pales in comparison to seizures elsewhere, such as the $24 million seized in June by Miami-Dade Police in Florida. Officers seized $23 million in cash in 2011 during Operation Four Horsemen in metro Atlanta, a major trafficking hub for drugs coming to the East Coast and cash deliveries back to Mexico. The Mexican cartels use tractor-trailers to deliver the cash from Atlanta stash houses to the cartel safes in Mexico, said Rodney Benson, who was head of the Drug Enforcement Administration office in Atlanta at the time of the seizsure. The San Diego Border Patrol agents made a dent in the cash flow Tuesday when they arrested two men in Escondido, just north of San Diego and about 40 miles from the Mexican border. An agent pulled over a Kia Forte and found nearly $34,000 stashed in the console, the agency said. A 53-year-old American was arrested. Other agents were able to locate a Volkswagen Passat suspected of having driven in tandem with the Kia, the agency said. They arrested the driver, a 41-year-old Mexican national, for suspicion of currency smuggling. The trunk of the Passat is where they then recovered $3,018,000, the agency said. The Border Patrol turned over the two suspects to Homeland Security, and they now face federal charges for currency smuggling. A media strategist to former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, John Ayebaralate Okhai has asked incumbent governor, Henry Seriake Dickson to leave the party out of his controversies. Okhai who stated this on Saturday, while reacting to allegations connecting the APC with the news round town that, a government house accountant, Richard Otonye ran away with $4.6 Million belonging to Dickson to an unknown destination. Okhai advised Dickson to take legal action against any media house appeared have smeared his image rather than draw the APC into such unwarranted lies. He also called on the said Richard Otonye to prove beyond reasonable doubt to everyone that he was on official duty with Governor Henry Seriake Dickson as claimed by the government. Present indelible facts to absolve self by featuring on a radio show or appearing on television to prove his innocence. In statement titled “Dickson’s $4.6 million loss, the APC should be left out of it,” Okhai said: “The story of how an accountant in the Bayelsa State Government House absconded with the governor’s $4.6 Million was reported in some online news outlets yesterday and subsequently circulated on the social media. “The money was said to have been given to the accountant for safe keeping, but obviously Mr Richard Etonye who is also said to be Dickson’s cousin, had another idea about the said money. “In a desperate bid to cover up and save himself from the tongue-lashing of angry Bayelsans, who Dickson has imposed unimaginable hardship on, considering the non-payment and drastic slash in civil servants salary, Dickson has quickly denied any such incident. And like he is accustomed to doing, he has shifted the blame on the Bayelsa State chapter of the APC. Now if I may ask, what has APC got to do with the said story? “Is the story really a hoax as Dickson would have us believe? Rather than put the blame on APC, wouldn’t it have been more honourable for him to have taken legal action against the media houses that reported the incident? “Better still, since in Dickson’s rebuttal of the story, he claimed Richard Etonye was with him as at the time he was refuting the story, it makes it even easier for him (Dickson), be only Etonye can refute the story and not Dickson. “If the story is a fabrication as alleged, the said accountant, Richard Etonye should for starters, be on air (radio and television) refuting the story, and go a step further in suing for libel as this a defamatory story if really it is untrue. Until these actions are taken, I would like to believe it to be true as Dickson has a long history of kleptomania. “If any of these fails to happen, Dickson should without equivocation, tender an unreserved apology to the Bayelsa APC and ultimately own up to his crime against the people. Richard Etonye may have learnt from the best anyway, given Dickson’s history with indomie cartons. “I also urge the EFCC and ICPC to beam their searchlight on Dickson over this matter so as to unravel the truth,” Okhai said. Recall, most newspapers and online news agencies reported that Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Bayelsa State on Wednesday, raided the private residence of the Bayelsa State Government House Accountant, Richard Etonye in a secret operation that lasted for about two hours. NEXTNEWSLIVE.COM gathered the house, located along Brass Road was allegedly raided on the orders of Governor Seriake Dickson after Etonye reportedly absconded with his principal’s money said to be $4.6m. The money was handed over to the accountant by the governor for safe keep just a few days before the raid on Tuesday. http://nextnewslive.com/leave-the-apc-out-of-your-4-6million-loss-john-a-okhai/ |

A protest was successfully carried out on the streets of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital yesterday, August 26, concerning the murder of juvenile Innocent Kokorifa. Our correspondent who followed the event in Yenagoa, said the protest was led by Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), which is the apex body of Ijaw youths worldwide. Youths and Human right Rights Activists and groups in the state came out on the streets demanding for Justice to prevail and bring those behind gruesome act to book. The protest is ongoing despite intense and frightening security presence with over ten (10) patrol vans monitoring the situation. The protest finally ended at Government House with all assurances from the police that justice will prevail on the murder of innocent Kokorifa. First to speak was Former Spokesperson of the IYC, Comrade Jeremiah Owoupele who frowned at the reckless and trigger-happy attitude of men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on innocent citizens demanded that, the murder of Innocent Kokorifa shouldn’t be one of those normal cases where officers who perpetrate evil against fellow citizens are shielded and allowed to go free. Owoupele however stated he led the protest out to let the world know how unhappy Ijaw Youths are over extra-judicial killings and more especially, the evil meted at juvenile Innocent Kokorifa. He said, he is a son of a retired military officer who understand’s and respects constituted authority but decided to lead the protest even as a Special Assistant to the government of Bayelsa state along other government officials and notable youth leaders to tell the police “enough is enough.” Addressing protesters on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State was his deputy in charge of operations, Amiengheme Andy (DCP), thanked the youths to have been peaceful all through the process and reassured them that, there were serious moves on ground already to ensure speedy investigation process once it finished, Bayelsans and Nigerians indeed would be satisfied with how the case was handled as no stone would left unturned. DCP Amiengheme further noted that, due to how sensitive the case is, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge zone 5 has has ordered for the detention of the officer who admitted shooting Innocent Kokorifa and have also assured independent investigative team from zone 5 are already on their toes to ensure justice prevail. Amiengheme pleaded with protesting youths to go home and not extend the protest further. He also ended by saying unwanted statements should be avoided for now as doing so preempts issues which may make matters worst. Earlier, the prime mover of #JusticeForInnocent, Augustine Ebikebuna Aluzu issued a statement saying: “This is not about hatred for the Police “This is about our right to life, this is about our right to human dignity. This is about leaving the house and coming home alive. This is about leaving the house without fear of Police harassment as we have witnessed across Yenagoa. “This is about corrupt practices of the Police. It is about Police extortion, indiscriminate arrest, Police brutality and extra-judicial killing by Police Officers. While we know that a 17 year old is a teenager, to some people he is an adult. “He is a dangerous adult who is guilty of armed robbery even if he has done nothing wrong. This is about Police Officers stopping our kids for any reason and they do whatever the Police says. If they can’t make up what the Police is saying, they don’t go close to ask. They don’t even try to move, you dare not walk away. “This is about our people not being able to pull out their cell phone to call their parents when accousted by a Police officer. They just put their hands in the air and enter the Police van. It doesn’t matter, we will always look for money to bail them out. It doesn’t matter the time s/he was picked up or where they were picked up. We will bail them out. “It is about picking Timi in front of his shop at 6:00pm by the police and demand for bail. It is about raiding a street and picking up hundreds of young people, take them to the station and demand for bail. It is about brutalizing our young boys, lay frivolous charges against them and demand for bail “This is about human rights, this is about making a statement, this is about demanding professionalism by the police, this is about #JusticeForInnocent and all the victims of Police brutality.” See More Photos Here: http://nextnewslive.com/why-we-protested-innocents-murder-ijaw-youths/

Wadeoye:I am one South-South youth who has on different occasions spoken out and criticized our brothers for blowing up pipelines and destroying our environment but this has nothing to do with blowing up pipelines but a reckless and trigger-happy police officer killing a teenager. This is about police brutality and should be condemned by all. |
HARDBOI:The protest is very close to Government House YENAGOA and at a brief session right now with leader of the protest address government officials and police. They will be heading to Police Headquarters to express their grievances. |
