Jobs/Vacancies / My First Job Appointment Letter by timmyoj(m): 12:06pm On Feb 28, 2020
Like many of us who may have had our fair share of the stress of job search in our dear country Nigeria, my ordeal lasted for a period of about 7 years after graduating with a B.Sc in Computer Science from a private university in Nigeria.

Sending out job applications online where like a daily duty for me those years, and I probably cannot count how many job applications I sent out, and how many job aptitude tests and interviews I attended in a number of Nigerian cities, all to no avail, to a point that the son of man almost slid into a depression.

So I stumbled into this in my mail box today. You could imagine the joy I must have had when I received an appointment letter for the first time with my name on it, only to discover that the offer was just too ridiculously ridiculous for even a desperate young man to accept.

Though I always had the desire to be a Lecturer and I was preparing towards it too, but how was I suppose to accept a job as a Lecturer in a private government-recognized monotechnic institution of technology which entailed me relocating to the town where the school was located, for such a salary.

I was however still grateful that at least one appointment letter came to at least give a light of hope for a better coming day. Of course I did not accept their offer for obvious reasons, even though they tried to also negotiate, but with such pay package and working terms and conditions, I probably knew better even in my desperation. And to think that this offer was only around 8years ago, with the situation of the country everyone was well aware of.

Just reminding me of the unfair treatment meted out to countless number of job seekers by most employers especially privates, who use the desperation and unfortunate situation the job seekers found themselves against them.

Nevertheless, man must do what he has to do to keep body and soul together, and my saving grace was that in all the years of job search, I kept myself busy hustling and making ends meet with the computer skills God blessed me with, so I never really found myself completely idle at any point.

Well fast forward to about 8 years after, having changed jobs a few times and adding to my skill set with more experience, today its a different story by the grace of God, what would have been my full month pay 8 years ago, is less than what I give as tithe today.

And though I am yet to achieve my dream to be a Lecturer which I still plan for in the near future, I am most grateful to God for how He granted me such divine speed and favour, that made all the years I was jobless seem like they never existed. And though I have not arrived yet, I am grateful that I am not where I use to be.

I write this with all sense of humility to also encourage as many job seekers out there. Do not give up hope. Whatever your hands find to do today, do it faithfully as unto God, and in His own time and in His own mysterious way, He would take you to levels beyond your expectations. And do not forget to celebrate every little milestone you achieve and every little victory you attain, because no matter how bad we feel about where we are today, we are always better than someone out there.

And to my lovely country Nigeria, I can only hope and pray that the field of education is given the due attention and reward it deserves, so that the dream of being a Teacher or a Lecturer in Nigeria would not feel like a nightmare to the upcoming generations especially.

Thank you for sharing a part of my story.
If this makes Front Page, I'll be grateful.
I have masked out the name of the Institution in the appointment letter for privacy reasons and I would not want to tarnish the school's image with a belief that they must have upgraded by now.

May God help us all!

Religion / Re: Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo Reacts To Rape Allegation By Busola Dakolo by timmyoj(m): 6:46pm On Jun 28, 2019
So for the first time, I would comment on a YouTube video and I think it is worth my time.
Seen the interview and read quite a number of comments and as expected all series of hatred and hell shots at the accused person.
And as expected once a Church or a Pastor is involved, there is never 2 sides to any story, the man must be judged and crucified with immediate effect... But be that as it may, I am not responding to defend the "man of God" who I only hear of on Social Media and know nothing more about him or his church.

My few concerns are more towards the Media Outfit that granted this interview and the website they are selling which I just checked out (http://notinmychurch.ng/)

So first of all, a celebrity's wife found no other means to express her pains (of a matter her family and her husband as she says has been aware of for years), but on an unpopular media outfit that one may easily suspect may be out for some publicity moves.

And I am in no way saying that she may be lying (which in fact she may - we never know - maybe for now), but suddenly after years there's now a need to speak out and like I said, I do not know the Pastor neither do I stand with him or anyone for that matter (life is deeper than we often think we know)... Indeed there is every possibility that the pastor indeed committed such a crime against humanity as much as there are many false preachers out there today... And just maybe his past or even God's judgement has finally come for him and surely it has come in a very hard way that I cannot tell how the drama will turn out.

Be that as it may, my most concern asides justice for the poor lady (if indeed she went through such a violation from someone who she thought she could look up to), I have a question or 2 for the media outfit propagating this idea and as the one-page website (I checked) reads in part (with a Bible verse to back it up):
"...For those who have been abused - mentally, physically and emotionally - from authority figures in the church, you are not alone.
Tell your story, speak out, get help. You deserve to be whole - our God would have it no other way..."

So I ask whoever runs this campaign: WHAT EXACTLY IS THE AIM OR VISION OF THIS MOVEMENT? Because if this movement was started by a so-called "Christian" (of which I doubt), I wonder on what basis it was started...
'Cos asides raising further attacks against "The Church" that is already under attack (notice I did not say "a pastor"wink, and fuelling hatred towards preachers in the hearts of many who are gullible and not spiritually grown enough to manage their emotions, a hatred that would definitely extend to both the guilty and the innocent alike... I do not see what healing that any such victim can attain that cannot be achieved in a less catastrophic manner... 'Cos in your so-called quest to do "God's work" by fishing out the "bad golden eggs" (which is not a bad idea per say), but looking at the bigger picture, you are actually tearing down God's work much more than helping it... Moreso I am not sure there is anywhere in the Bible that adviced that authority figures must be brought to the public place and flogged for their wrongs in the name of God's work (but of course I am not God either to know how He chooses to judge anyone)...

And just a general point of note (especially to those who are Christians): Again I state clearly, I am not defending nor standing with any man / woman, I know neither of them and I cannot make comments on a matter I do not have a full picture of... But believe it or not, judge the matter or not, God's love and forgiveness is deeper than man would ever understand, and sorry to say, but this same accused man may meet you in heaven (thats if you are sure of making it yourself)...

And I said that on a general note, not on this specific matter... nuff said!

Yes right. Its 40hours per week, 8hours per day. An hour work break per day not inclusive. More like shift-based.

Lets keep in mind that the offer amount is still tax and other deductibles exclusive. In other words, the pay after deductions would be bit less than the offered gross amount.
Just to avoid the usual suprise of getting a pay less than the expected at the end of first month of work.

All the best guys.

however, which post did u apply for?

I applied for Support and thats what I was offered. Sorry will not be able to reveal the pay they offered me on this platform.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Invitation For Interview At Tek Expert by timmyoj(m): 6:59pm On Mar 04, 2018
Hello all, I also got an offer from them, I am yet to accept though. The pay stated in their offer is the gross pay, and the break down is not detailed, meaning the take home after deductions will be less than what they offered.

Still giving it a thought, cos my current pay is more than the offer, though they seem to have a better structure and more organized and also opportunities for career growth is higher with them, but then a decision for a pay cut must be really worth it if am to accept the offer.

Congrats to others who got the offer too, and best of luck to those still expecting.

Thanks bro.

I have checked the Sciences Faculty list, and still cant find my name in it. I just hope there will be another list before the graduation date.

M.Sc Info Tech since 2014, with so much stress and battle with NOUN, I have cleared all issues since late 2016, so I expect NOUN to be considerate this time.

Anyone with any good advice please share. Thanks all!

I just returned now from the former NOUN head office, the SC in V.I, Lagos, and there was no graduation list pasted anywhere. I also asked from some of the staff there and they all said there is no graduation list out yet and if its out, its usually pasted for all to see.

Please could you clarify the source of this list? and can anyone here reliably proof that there is a graduation list out?

Thanks in advance!

But I believe you read the summary wrongly:
Minimum Req unit = 49
Total Credit Carried = 40
Outstanding = 9 (which you didn't display)
You need to register and clear that 9units deficit. To be on a safer side, register more than 9units.

hmm..Ok you also need to confirm properly. The 49 units there is not the minimum requirement, pls do some findings. See the attached picture, the website even said 30, and thats wrong actually.

Hi guys! Hmmm and after so much wahala with NOUN for years for an M.Sc Info Tech, spending over 70k on project wahala alone and submitting it 3 times both to the HQ before seeing the project result, and spending so much just to clear one CO, I finally see my results and this heartless people gave me another CO when am quite sure that my TMA score was good and I didn't do badly in the exam too.

Please what's the probability of graduating with the below results and by the way am I seeing pending units of 10, thought the required units was 40?? and I have 39, kai! NOUN is not fair oooo, so I will now come and spend almost 50k for just one course. That Devil is a liar o, including NOUN! lols
Serious matter tho! shocked undecided cry

Quite a pathetic situation that NOUN website could be down for so long. Still wondering why any thing that has to do with the government in Nigeria is always inefficient and handled carelessly by the staff. From communications to electricity, to security, to healthcare to education, to anything government!
This is why am often in support of privatization. Could NOUN be down for so long if it were privately managed with the owners loosing money per hour of the down-time? Just wondering!

And they will say 'Government property is nobody's property'! same adage that will never allow Nigeria to progress and why many serious-minded Nigerians who can find their way simply leave the country. Same selfishness and greed that runs in the veins of the typical Nigerian politician, where the National pledge means absolutely nothing to them (that's if they even know what the pledge is).

As a 'frustrated' M.Sc Info Tech student of NOUN since 2013, I cant but feel bad over the many inefficiencies I noticed with NOUN system.
First the careless attitude of the staff at the centres, and then recounting my experience after investing as much as I could and studying as hard as I could in a bid to finish up the programme as soon as possible; only to be given one carry over in a core course; and after battling with project work (project fees of 40k to NOUN, and literally begging the supervisor to supervise my work and to collect 20k instead of the 50k he asked as he said NOUN owes him for many months so the students must pay the cost, 60k total, all for doing 'nothing') yet after all the stress, NOUN still cant produce my project result after almost 2 years and after re-submitting the project work 3 good times at my own expense, the first 2 the HQ said they never got or cant find while my SC says they sent them, the last one I submitted at the HQ in Lagos months ago which am hoping will work out finally.

And after 'painfully' paying NOUN almost 30k just for me to resit the 1 carryover paper, I cant access NOUN website nor the TMA portal.
Cant say more, can only wish I never wasted my time and finances to run my M.Sc programme at NOUN.

Indeed! The inefficiency in the Nigeria government systems is quite appalling, NOUN is only one of them, only God can help this country cause the change everyone is clamouring for still seems way too far away as long as this mindset of greed and selfishness remains in the Nigeria system. What poverty has done to Nigeria and Nigerians though!
