Yinmu. If it makes you sleep better at night you are free to believe that even Capetown SA is a no man's land for all i care, but any sane person knows who owns and controls what.
While you're at it, please list those Igbo-owned Industries in Lagos and the SW you keep bragging about that can come close to Yorubas' in the region.
I guess to your sick mind the following SW based industries are Igbo-owned: Honeywell Flour Mills, GZI Industries, ProForce, Elizade, Bi-Courtney, Eleganza Group, Folawiyo Group, Petro Inett, Modandola Group, Manucom Fishing, Aiico Insurance, the Yoruba-owned banks, Insurance Companies, e.t.c. Even SME's (interestingly, after Lagos state, Oyo has the highest number of SME's in the country, higher than any SE state) we are comfortably in the lead. You know what SME's stand for right? And how many individuals you must employ to qualify as one?) all located in Yorubaland. I am waiting for those Igbo Big Businesses in Lagos and the SW (not 'pure water' ones o) that are more than Yoruba owned ones, and that give you all the ballz to brag.
http://nigerianstat.gov.ng/pdfuploads/SMEDAN%202013_Selected%20Tables.pdf
Also kindly List the number of Insurance companies players that are Igbo-owned dominating Yorubaland or Nigeria in general.
How many Igbo-owned investments comes close to LADOL in Lagos?
List the Banks that Igbos dominate that are more than the Yoruba-dominated/controlled Skye Bank, First Bank, Sterling Bank, GTBank, FCMB, e.t.c.
List the Telecoms Company that are Igbo-owned/dominated like Yoruba-owned/controlled Globacom and NTel
List the I.T businesses that are Igbo dominated that can stand the likes of Spectranet, CCHub, MainOne
Which Igbo-owned businesses can match the dominance of Yoruba-controlled Oando, ConOil, and Forte Oil?
Chicken Republic, TFC, Tantalizers, Sweet Sensation, Mega Chicken are owned and controlled by Yorubas.
The only Transport segment Igbos dominate is that of buses that convey their kinsmen between YOrubaland and the SE. Yorubas control the SW internal routes, e.g. When I take a bus from Lagos to Abeokuta or Ibadan, 9 out of 10 times the owner of the Bus is a Yorubaman and not an Igboman, so get your facts straight.
In a nutshell, Yorubas already dominate the Big Businesses and industries that count, e.g Finance, Oil & Gas, I.T, Telecoms, Insurance, Manufacturing & Industry, e.t.c. It would be unfair of us to dominate everything so we've left them the crumbs like dominating the Super-Eagles, Gala Hawking , spare-parts bizness, Selling DVD/VCD at Alaba, Entertainment (though Yorubas dominate the Music scene, while we comfortably have our indigeneous Film industry on lockdown as well ), transporting your kinsmen to-and-from the SE to Yorubaland, e.t.c. Your people can keep dominating those. But even Commerce/trading sef una don dey dump that one sef for drug-trafficking.

Smh. [/s] According to your analysis Yorubas dominate the 'biggest industries' and yet the richest black man in the world made his wealth through a small industry like sugar and cement? Small industries have the highest demands in any country and the economy is driven by them Anyway, 1.The 2 richest Nigerian singers - Don Jazzy and P Square are igbos. Yorubas control the music industry in their dreams 2.The Richest black woman in the world is MRS DOS SANTOS of Angola and not ALAKIJA contrary to the lies Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Media peddle 3. Nigerian Billionaires and top 20 Richest People (Entrepreneurs) in Nigeria 1. Alhaji Aliko Dangote – founder of Dangote Group and Richest black man in the world 2. Mike Adenuga – Conoil, Equatorial Trust Bank, Globacom 3. Femi Otedola – ZENON Oil and Gas 4. Orji Uzor Kalu – Slok Group5. Cosmos Maduka – Coscharis Group6. Jimoh Ibrahim – Nicon Insurance, Global Fleet 7. Jim Ovia – Zenith Bank, Visafone 8. Pascal Dozie – MTN Nigeria, Diamond Bank9. Oba Otudeko – Honeywell Group Nigeria 10. Alhaji Sayyu Dantata – MRS Group 11. Umaru Abdul Mutallab – former Chairman First Bank Plc, Mutallab Group 12. Prince Samuel Adedoyin – Doyin Group 13. Dele Fajemirokun – Chaiman Aiico Insurance, Xerox Nigeria, Chicken Republic, Kings Guards etc. 14. Chief Cletus Ibeto – Ibeto Group 15. Raymond Dokpesi – Daar Communication, AIT, 16. Tony Ezenna – Orange Group17. Chief Molade Okoya Thomas – Chairman CFAO Nig and other six french companies 18. Ifeanyi Ubah – Capital oil and gas19. Leo Stan Ekeh – Zinox20. Fola Adeola – GTBank 8 out of 20 richest entrepreneurs in Nigeria are Igbos alone, thats 40%. The remaining 200 tribes share the remaining 60% And to think that only 50 years ago, only £20 were given to Igbo the in 70s, its Unbelievable. |

sammyj: OP is an ignoramus forgeting that the recession started way back from his sister Ngozi's tenure as the country's finance minister and the clueless one's prime minister who was already borrowing capital to pay salary. Also note that you don't get out of recession within a year which i know will happen eventually when we start feeding ourselves. So put things into proper balance and get your facts right before jumping into any conclusion!!!! Yess, it is true the recession started in 2012 under NOI, but the fact that Nigerians never felt it just shows how good a manager NOI is. Under Kemi, everything has fallen apart because she lacks the know-how on policies and measures to cushion the effects of recession |

kickhard: Fellow Nigerians, can we for once be realistic in our dealings and expectations. While it is good news and a welcome development to know we can feed ourselves, I'm still surprised at how many educated adults in Nigeria still fall for the antics of the career politicians.
FACTS: 1. The land mass for rice cultivation in Ebonyi State should be twice the size in Anambra State. 2. Anambra has a standard irrigation for rice farmers(Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority), even though they still plant rice once in a year because it's non-functional, but Ebonyi has no irrigation farm for rice production or for any other crop. 3. Anambra State govt has shown a great support for rice farmers in the State through introduction of high yield seedlings (e.g. Farrow 44), and the provision of loans (up to 10m per selected farmer) for standard processing (De-stoning machines) for wider acceptability; Ebonyi farmers have received little or no support from their govt. 4. Anambra State currently produce more tons of rice than Ebonyi State despite the fact that Ebonyi farmers thought their Anambra counterparts, and they also have access to larger land mass. The difference is govt support. 5. If all the inhabitants of Enugu town decide to eat only Abakaliki rice from August that harvest normally begins, not even a grain of it will remain by January 6. Anambra rice has more acceptability status than Abakaliki rice due to the 'de-stoning' addition to their processing, because of govt support
So friends, no matter what the politicians push to the media, you need to think it through because Ebonyi State Gov. is not even planning to initiate irrigation project in his state (to my knowledge), or support the farmers significantly but to boost his public image as if Abakaliki rice was not there before he was born. If Calabar people turn to Abakaliki rice, it will disappear in the market before 3 months at that rate, and we are back to foreign rice square one.
Even the federal govt support for the farmers can only be short-lived without a sustainable program and the will to increase what we have on ground.
In summary, there is a need to expand our local capacity in food (rice) production by laying foundations for such growth, rather than jump around all over the news media celebrating career politicians as if there is a new piece of land added to the existing ones for rice production.
Thanks What exactly is the basis of this post on this very thread except dick measuring. If you want to talk about the challenges of farming in Anambra and the contribution of govt, kindly create another thread.\ and dont derail my Beautiful Ebonyi thread |
