Its all well and good hes back and may have realised his mistake. Regardless, leaving is a major character flaw and shows his natural inclination was to flee. You can take him back but at arms length, he has to prove himself big time before you fully take him in. Coming from a guy, if you make it easy for him to come back then he wont value it as much and therefore easy to mess up again.

Always have an open body language (dont cross hands and co), smile, embarass yourself once in a while (like say something silly, youll realise that you wont die when you embarrass yourself)

Never compare yourself to someone else (youll concentrate on your deficiencies), go to social events more (even fellowship) and most importantly realize the world doesnt evolve around you (after making a mistake, shy guys will replay the event in their head for days! while everyone else would have moved on)
