Politics › APC Represents Renewed Hope - Seyi Tinubi Tells Miyetti Allah by tinsel(op): 6:03pm On Jan 19, 2023 |
Seyi Tinubu, son of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked the Miyetti-Allah Kautal Hore association to support his father.
Seyi made the request on Thursday during a visit to Abdullahi Bodejo, the national president of the association.
He was accompanied by members of City Boy Youth Movement (CBYM), a Tinubu/Shettima support group.
For “renewed hope for Nigeria”, Tinubu’s son urged Nigerian youths to vote for the APC in the next month’s elections.
“Let us all go and collect our PVCs before the deadline and vote APC. A vote for Tinubu/Shettima will carry the youth along as a priority as stated in their manifesto,” NAN quoted Seyi as saying.
He said the youth wing of the APC and the CBYM would work together with the Fulani to ensure that the party wins in the country.
Bodejo in his remarks called on members of the association to support the candidacy of
He said the decision to endorse the APC candidates was due to Miyetti- Allah’s community engagement with stakeholders and community leaders across the country.
According to NAN, Seyi Tinubu was conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Sokajo Fulbe” —the ambassador of the Fulani youths.
Favour Abayomi, leader of CBYM, described Tinubu and Shettima of the APC as the “best candidates for the presidency”. https://www.thecable.ng/apc-represents-renewed-hope-seyi-tinubi-visits-miyetti-allah/amp

Politics › Peter Obi Excludes IPOB From Nigerian Terrorist Groups, Lists Boko Haram/iswap- by tinsel(op): 8:30pm On Jan 17, 2023 |
Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has excluded the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from terrorist groups in Nigeria. IPOB, a secession group in the southeast region seeking separation from Nigeria, was proscribed and listed as a terrorist group in Nigeria in September 2017 – as the Jihadist group Boko Haram and ISWAP. The United Kingdom government in May 2022 accepted Nigeria’s classification of IPOB as a terrorist organisation and directed that IPOB members be excluded from its asylum programme. Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, has come under fire from critics and members of opposition parties when he excluded IPOB from the list of terror groups in his speech to commemorate Nigeria’s annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The Labour Party candidate stated that he is committed to a ‘One United and Secured Progressive Nigeria’ and expressed dissatisfaction at the rate of unemployment, injustice, poverty, lack of opportunities, and exclusion. Obi thereafter noted in a tweet that “A working Nigeria with equity, justice, and fairness will also definitely and effectively checkmate such extreme groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP.” The exclusion of IPOB from the terror groups in Nigeria by Obi did not come as surprise to some critics and opposition who accused the former Anambra State governor of being a sympathiser to the secessionist group. A Nigerian digital strategist and author Japhet Omojuwa tweeted that it is “shocking that people in the replies expect our Incoming to list IPOB as a terrorist organisation” and made reference to an article where Obi had said IPOB members are not terrorists. “The only thing I disagree with is naming IPOB terrorists. They are not terrorists. Those who took the decision may have information that I don’t have,” Obi said in a report by Premium Times. “I live in Onitsha, and I can tell you they are not terrorists. They (IPOB members) are people I pass on the road every time, (and) every day.” Obi insisted that IPOB did not constitute a threat to Nigeria. “I meet them and live with them. In fact, I usually see (IPOB) people gathering, and not one day has there been a threat or molestation or anything from them, even when they gather.” The killings and unrest in southeast Nigeria have been credited to IPOB by the Nigerian police. The separatist group disassociated itself from the claim as it is protesting the detention of its leader Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government. The Guardian reported a town hall organised by Channels Television where Obi and his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed discussed their plans on employment, economy, security and other issues in Nigeria. Obi disclosed that if elected president in the February election, he will ‘bring out’ jailed agitators and insurgents for dialogue. “I’ll discuss with everybody – even if you have been jailed, I’ll bring you out and we will discuss,” Obi https://guardian.ng/news/peter-obi-excludes-ipob-from-nigerian-terrorist-groups-lists-boko-haram-iswap/ |

Politics › Falana: DSS Does Not Need Court Order To Arrest Emefiele by tinsel(op): 5:00pm On Jan 16, 2023 |
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, says the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has not returned to the country following allegations of terrorism financing levelled against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
“I can say without any fear of contradiction that Mr Godwin Emefiele is not in Nigeria; he hasn’t returned to the country because he has been declared wanted by the state security services,” Falana said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
“If you have the evidence that he has committed the offence alleged, you don’t need a court order to arrest him and that is the law. And by the way, no court in Nigeria or anyway has the power to confer immunity on any citizen… If you are not one of the 74 people who are entitled to immunity in Nigeria; that is the President, the Vice President, the governors, and deputy governors, no other person can enjoy immunity.
“So, you can’t say don’t arrest a citizen if there is reasonable suspicion that he has committed an offence. So, I expect the State Security Service to come out with the allegations, and if Mr Emefiele is not going to return to the country, file a charge in the Federal High Court so that he can get his lawyers, and prepare his defence The secret police had approached an Abuja court to arrest Emefiele over alleged terrorism financing and economic crimes of national security but Justice Maryam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja quashed the move by the DSS.
The judge thereafter barred the DSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele declaring the terrorism allegations against the CBN governor by the DSS as vindictive, callous, oppressive, void and of no effect.
However, Falana on Sunday said the DSS does not need a court order to arrest the CBN governor if the Service has concrete evidence against him. He urged the DSS to proceed to arrest Emefiele upon his arrival in Nigeria, noting that the apex bank governor is not one of those constitutionally entitled to immunity in Nigeria.
Falana described as embarrassing the allegations against Emefiele by the DSS, saying this can only happen in a Banana Republic where the governor of the apex bank would be accused of a grave offence of terrorism financing.
“Has the government considered the enormous implication of the effect of a wanted governor of the central bank on the economy?
“I am completely flabbergasted that the President of the country has not intervened; either to call the state security to order or to call Mr Emefiele to return to the country or be fired,” the senior lawyer said.
He recalled that Emefiele’s predecessor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was also accused of terrorism financing in 2014 but won the case.
“These guys play on our collective intelligence because they know we are very forgetful. In 2014, his (Emefiele’s) immediate predecessor, former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was equally accused of terrorism financing. In the same way, he (Sanusi) also travelled out of the country to attend a meeting with the governors of the central banks of West Africa in Niamey, Niger Republic.
“As soon as he landed in Lagos, he was arrested, and his passport was seized,” Falana said.
The senior lawyer said Sanusi won the case and the court awarded N50m compensation in favour of Sanusi.
Falana stressed that the allegation of terrorism financing against Emefiele should not be dismissed. https://www.channelstv.com/2023/01/15/emefiele-hasnt-returned-to-nigeria-should-be-arrested-on-arrival-falana/
