With the equipments modern fighter jets now possess, dogfighting has become an antiquated term. Most fighter jets now have BVR(beyond visual range) strike capabilities with fire and forget stand-off missiles. You don't need to visually spot the enemy before you engage. The American built F-35 for instance can engage targets 150 miles away and can attack planes that are right behind it.

That said, in 2025 if fighter pilots are dog fighting each other then something has gone terribly wrong.
