However, NCNC was entrusted into the hands of Zik. He wasn't the founder. Herbert Macaulay,was, a yoruba man. You read wrong history book. It was the other way round. Before the independence, Awolowo called Zik to team together and even suggested secession clause in the constitution. Zik told his northern ally, maybe because he was born in Zugeru, and bred in the north, he didn't see the implications of Awolowo's position. He was deceived into accepting to be ceremonial president. Six years later, it was igbos that needed the clause to leave Nigeria.
He now needed Awolowo whose trust he divulged to the north to support him later, he declined. I would do the same because he was not a reliable person.

Since independence, yoruba nation have not taken central role in Nigerian politics apart from MKO. Yorubas voted for Falae not Obasanjo.

It is only now that Tinubu takes Awolowo' s principle across the Niger. Northern elements would have played him out as they did to Zik and Abiola. The desperation that led to the population ' emilokan' statement he made when the northern elements wanted to dubiously deny him by breaking the pact that brought them together.

I think Obi should align with APC, the Igbo nation should align more with yorubas rather than northerners and wait patiently. Yorubas are more liberal politically than Hausa - fulani. Once by concensous, an Igbo man is fielded with the support of SS, ṢE and some sympathy states from Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Nasarawa, the deal is done.


This has been the mistake of igbos since Zik. When Awolowo asked him for alliance. He betrayed his christian brother and aligned with the north. Till now, igbos see yorubas as their political enemy. It is a bad miscalculation. Yorubas has all it takes to demand for the position any time they feel like. Igbos don't have it now.

The northerners can never accept igbo's presidency for now. Tinubu himself bulldoze himself there against all permutations to install a northerner. Same plot killed MKO Abiola.

Awolowo betrayed Zik in the 40s/50s. Left for Zik, the Yorubas and Igbos would be one with Lagos/Ibadan as headquarters. But Awo was too tribalistic for that.
