Politics › We Intend To Install CCTV On Highways - Buhari Tells South-West Royal Fathers by Tiwaz2(op): 4:39pm On Jul 31, 2019 |
President Buhari today held a meeting with the Royal Fathers from the South West region and here is what they discussed.
Today in my meeting with Royal Fathers from the South West I outlined a number of measures we are taking to improve security nationwide, as follows:
We are expediting commencement of our community policing initiative, and revamping police intelligence gathering capacity.
Our community Policing reform means we will be boosting the numbers of security personnel — and very importantly recruiting police officers from their Local Government Areas (LGAs), and stationing them there.
I will be issuing directives to the appropriate federal authorities to speedily approve licensing for States requesting the use of drones to monitor forests and other criminal hideouts.
We also intend to install CCTVs on highways and other strategic locations so that activities in some of those hidden places can be exposed, more effectively monitored and open to actionable review.
Working with the State governments, we will equip the police force with advanced technology and equipment to facilitate their work.
We will continue to bring in our military when needed to complement the work of the police, including possible deployment of troops on certain highways on a temporary basis, and the use of Nigerian Air Force assets to bomb hideouts where criminals are located.
I want to assure all Nigerians that we will enforce the law, prosecute law breakers and secure an atmosphere of tranquility for all Nigerians wherever they choose to live. This is both in our interests as an administration and the interests of the people who voted us into office.
We acknowledge the need for security to deliver on our many programmes to the people. Indeed there can be no prosperity if there is no security. This is not only a message of hope but a call to action to all of us as we seek ways to secure our country. Politics › Coup Attempt In Ethiopia: Democracy Has Come To Rest In Africa - Jonathan by Tiwaz2(op): 9:46pm On Jun 23, 2019 |
Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the attempted coup against the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stating that Democracy has come to stay in Africa.
Goodluck Jonathan stated this in an official statement he released this evening that was made available to Ngyab.com.
Read Below..
Nobody's Political Ambition Is Worth The Blood of Citizens in Ethiopia or Any Other Nation. I have long said, believed and practised the principle that nobody's political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.
As such, it bleeds my heart when there is unnecessary and avoidable bloodshed, as has just happened in Ethiopia.
I condemn the attempted coup against the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
I go further to call on men and women of goodwill around the world to also condemn such anti-democratic actions and show solidarity to the democratically elected constitutional order in Ethiopia.
Democracy has come to rest in Africa. Constitutionality and the rule of law are what we in Africa need, especially in the cradle of civilisation and the melting pot of the African Union.
Africa hopes for a speedy return to normalcy and I stand ready to lend my voice and actions to make that possible. May God bless Africa and may He be with the government and people of Ethiopia at such a trying time.

The Senate has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally release and declare the result of the June 12 presidential election currently presumed to have been won by Chief MKO Abiola.
The Senate also wants Abiola and his Vice Presidential candidate, Babagana Kingibe to be accorded all entitlements due to the office of the President and Vice President.
The Senate thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring Chief Abiola, Kingibe and foremost human rights and pro-democracy activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi. It also agreed with the presidency that henceforth June 12 should be celebrated as Nigeria's democracy day but noted that despite the new development, May 29th remains the day for handover and inauguration of new governments.
The motion was earlier moved by Senator Lanre Tejuoso representing Ogun Central but due to the inadequate prayers expressed therein, another motion was moved by Senator Biodun Olujimi representing Ekiti South with broad prayers to honour the late Chief MKO Abiola and others mentioned. http://www.ngyab.com/2018/06/07/breaking-news-declare-june-12-result-announce-winner-senate-to-inec/ |

I Will Defeat Buhari In 2019 - Female Presidential Aspirant Declares
A female presidential aspirant on the platform of Alliance for a New Nigeria (ANN), Dr. Elishama Rosemary Ideh, has declared that she will defeat President Buhari and other aspirants in the fourth come 2019 elections.
Ideh stated this yesterday in Abuja while declaring her intention to contest the 2019 presidential poll, noting that she is confident that she would defeat incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and other presidential candidates at the election.
The presidential hopeful, who said that what the country needs at the moment is a new model of governance, stated that she was prepared for the task ahead if voted as President in next year’s general election.
Ideh added that she has articulated workable solutions to address the myriad of problems confronting the country.
“We will confront the monster of corruption with utmost vigour, but with a different mindset from past and current efforts. We will fight corruption in all its tangible and intangible manifestations. We will strive to enhance the Independence and autonomy of the EFCC in terms of its funding, privileges, powers and even the composition of its leadership,” she said.
“Unlike our opposition, who seek to use the EFCC as an attack dog to fight their opposition while shielding their friends from the consequences of corruption and other misdemeanors, we are confident in giving the EFCC the latitude it needs to carry out its statutory mandate and to prosecute cases without bias or prejudice, simply because we have nothing to hide.”
She further stated that Nigeria needs “a leader who combines integrity with intelligence and a deep and vast understanding of the implications of the 21st global economy and Nigeria’s place in it.” Source: http://www.currentnewsinnigeria.com/i-will-defeat-buhari-in-2019-female-presidential-aspirant-declares/

Politics › Notooyoung Bill: You Are Too Old To Run - Fayose To Buhari by Tiwaz2(op): 10:08am On Jun 01, 2018 |
Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose has reacted to the Not Too Young Bill President Buhari yesterday signed into law.
According to him the bill is not in favor of President Buhari, stating that he is too old to run in 2019 and should give way for younger Nigerians to take over.
Fayose stated this in a series of tweets he made this morning via his official twitter handle.
His tweets reads..
The future of Nigeria belongs to the youths and we must handover the country to them without restrictions. If at 18, you are old enough to choose, you must also be seen as old enough to be chosen.
Today in Ekiti, the PDP Deputy governorship candidate is 39 year old. He became chairman of Ado LG at 35. On the contrary, the APC deputy governorship candidate is 74 year old. He was chairman of Ado LG 25 years ago.
Lastly, our President who signed the "Not Too Young To Run" should be reminded that at his very old age, he is also "Too old To Run." He should leave the stage for the younger generation of Nigerians. Source: http://www.currentnewsinnigeria.com/notooyoung-bill-you-are-too-old-to-run-fayose-to-buhari/CC: Ishilove, Lalasticlala

Politics › 2019: Let Somebody Who Have Something Upstairs Govern - Okorocha by Tiwaz2(op): 8:56pm On May 28, 2018 |
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has bared his mind on who should be elected as a leader come 2019
According to him, more emphasis should be placed on intelligence rather than zoning while fielding candidates for the 2019 general elections.
The governor said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Programme, Roadmap To 2019.
“We are talking about somebody who has something upstairs irrespective of where he comes come, let him govern,” he said.
Okorocha, who is also the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) explained that the North Western zone has produced Nigeria’s president thrice.
According to the governor, he is not an advocate of the zone that produces the nation’s leader provided the president has something tangible to offer.
“The three civilian Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are all from the North West, not from the North East or North Central.
“Shagari is from Sokoto in North West, even Buhari is from Katsina North West and his brother, Yar Adua in North West.
“We are talking about people who have something upstairs to govern. Why are we being so primitive at this time while we are talking about who has what it takes to help this country,” he said.
With next year’s election gradually gathering momentum, Okorocha is of the opinion that “the best (should) come and help the nation.” Source: http://www.currentnewsinnigeria.com/2019-let-somebody-who-have-something-upstairs-govern-okorocha/CC: Ishilove, Lalasticala |
Politics › President Buhari's Speech At The 2018 Nigeria Democracy Day Lecture In Abuja by Tiwaz2(op): 5:49pm On May 28, 2018 |
SPECIAL REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, THE PRESIDENT FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE 2018 NIGERIA DEMOCRACY DAY LECTURE ON 28TH MAY, 2018 AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, ABUJA Protocols: I am happy to join the array of eminent Nigerians present here today, as we celebrate the 2018 Nigeria democracy day which marks the 3rd year of this administration and to reflect on the progress we have made in our democratic journey and governance in the last three years.
2. A government elected by the people, must continually be in touch with the aspirations of the people, and work for their highest possible good.
3. The theme of this year’s celebration “Peace Building and Good Governance for Sustainable Development’’ has been carefully selected to reflect our current opportunities and challenges.
4. We have experienced rough times, but through good governance we have not allowed ourselves to be overawed by the existing of challenges. Weak governance is often at the core of rising inequality and unequal development resulting in social disruption and political unrest with negative impacts on growth and development.
5. Accordingly, we have engaged in several rounds of dialogue and town hall meetings, targeted at peace building, between the aggrieved and in some cases warring factions and communities. We have worked hard to dialogue with and if they turn unreasonable decimate insurgents in various parts of the country.
6. We are still grappling but successfully, with border disputes and restoring the much needed peaceful co-existence amongst our people and neighbouring countries. The rebuilding of the North East is ongoing, to return our internally displaced brothers, sisters and children to their ancestral homes.
7. Our resolve to fight corruption was informed by the realisation that reducing corruption and ensuring the effective and just utilisation of public resources, are crucial for achieving sustainable growth and development in Nigeria. Corruption has been at the root of most of the development challenges of our country. There can be no progress in any facet of our national life unless we tackle and curb corruption.
8. Good governance is the polar opposite to corruption. Accordingly, we will not relent in our efforts to eliminate it regardless of the opposition. It manifests itself in several forms including accelerating poverty, conflicts and civil disturbances, as those who feel short-changed, resort to violence and destruction.
9. The security in the country today has considerably improved against the background of what we met in May 2015. Incidences of bombings in towns and villages have been drastically curtailed, series of plots have been averted and stopped and culprits arrested through the vigilance, patriotism and professionalism of our security agencies. The entire country has been freed from occupation of any of its parts by insurgents.
10. While we grieve with our compatriots who have lost relatives and properties, we are unrelenting in equipping and preparing our troops to confront the agents of violence, who have been engaging in banditry and reckless killings in various parts of the country under whatever guise, until total victory is achieved. Again it is pertinent to note that insurgency and terrorism are world-wide phenomena affecting even the best policed nations.
11. Our Economy is on the mend. We have achieved a good number of our set objectives, notably increased food production and food security; increased economic diversification into sectors that were hitherto neglected or under-explored.
12. Our foreign reserves have reached new heights and the outcome in respect of investments in infrastructure expansion are manifest everywhere.
13. Overall, we are on track. I thank and commend all who have worked so hard with us to achieve these successes. I assure you that our people will continue to see and experience more progress, more prosperity and greater security.
14. Finally, I call on Nigerians to remain steadfast and to keep faith with this Administration, as we remain committed to peace building and good governance, to deliver the best of dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people. Thank you and God bless. Source: http://www.ngyab.com/2018/05/28/president-buharis-speech-at-the-2018-nigeria-democracy-day-lecture-in-abuja/
