The issue here is this, in Access bank I don’t know about now, but at least 4 or 5 years ago, if you are asked to bring 300m with the promises of getting promoted, immediately you are moving the money from wherever it is, you would be asked to go to HR to collect your promotion letter. Meaning promotion could be rapid, in my time there there are a lot of young boys and girls that made manager,sm and agm, all by meeting their targets. But take note that the department you claim you don’t like or don’t have carrier part is your thinking... I worked on the head office and was later transferred to a branch, even though I am still a head office staff, I was the branch staff, the branch was housing me, I can tell you, it’s different. A lot of things to learn and if you start as an ET from the head office, your colleagues in branches don’t know half of the things you already know, in fact there are some things that they don’t know it’s possible to do and you know it’s doable. Head office allowes you to show your smartness, and you don’t even need to be street smart. Don’t loose the experience bro! If in another 6 months you havnt been promoted, move to another bank, or if in 6 months you get promoted, still move to another bank, by that time you must have taken 2 steps forward

Hello Nairalanders! Please I'm in serious need of your candid advice. Let me go straight to the point.

I've been going through a delimma for some days now. I'm presently working with a microfinance bank and i earn about 40k after tax. Recently, I was offered a job in government house with a salary slightly above my present salary.

In my present place of work, there is job security and I learn a lot on the job although the salary ain't much. In the new job, there is free accommodation but no job security because I'm being employed by the SA (special assistant) to the governor and i won't be getting any official appointment letter.

The problem now is, I'm stuck between the two. I don't know if I'm to go with the new offer or continue with my present job. I don't want to take a decision that I might regret tomorrow. My fear is that I might be sacked at any time because I'm not employed directly by the government but the SA.

I've been thinking about it and i still don't know the best decision to take. So, I decided to seek advice from nairaland cause I know I can get good advice here.

Please I will appreciate your sincere advice and contributions.

Consistence is key in anything, if you are not employed by the state government, what it means is that, you can be fired at anytime, because even the SA could be fired at any time. And because he is the one employing you, you salary would fluctuate, on like where you work now, I am sure on a particular date, your money hits your account. It will not be so when you start working for him, he could even claim that you should give him some time. My brother a bird in hand is worth much more than 2billion in the bush.

This is not always the case for immigrants, especially the ones of coming from Africa. There is a minimum wage system in most developed country, meaning no matter what you do, you can not earn below certain amount of money. These wages are put in place with consideration to cost of living, i.e housing, transport, feeding, taxation etc. Most minimum wages are livable wages, you can survive and live comfortably if you live according to your means.

Most Diasporans who come back home only do so because they do not see themselves doing these minimum wage paying jobs. e.g your cousin with a master degree wouldn't want to work as a security or sales associate at a store. Depending on ones course of study, grades, age, past work experience, not every diasporan will get the career of their choice. As long as you are able and willing to work and spend according to your means, you won't suffer.

My brother it’s like people just, pick up anything and start talking about it, this issue of going hungry when you are working could most likely be the UK or some other countries, but as for the US and Canada? Don’t go there. Once you are working you will not suffer. Simple!

why are you comparing BRT buses, don't they have their own lanes? and besides is that not a hussle for the driver? what about Danfo? its also a hussle for the driver. i dont think that when you wanna hussle and you are not the one buying the bus, you have any power over the kind of transmittion your bus owner would buy. This is for personal use and has no bases for comparism more so, its a female that wants to use it.

Manual is good, less fuel consumption, less trouble, but a lot of stress as you know, there is no guarantee that you won't run into traffic in Lagos, some 5mins and some as long as 2hours. if you hit that kinda traffic in Apapa, you would blame yourself with that manual.
