Strike: Committee of Vice Chancellors broker truce between FG, ASUU In a meeting that lasted over three hours in Abuja on Tuesday night, the Committee of Vice Chancellors brokered a truce between the leadership of ASUU and the Federal Government on the outstanding fresh demands issued by ASUU. Scan News learnt that the truce may lead to the suspension of the strike in the coming days. It was also gathered that the Committee of Vice Chancellors presented details of the account established by the Federal Government to the ASUU leadership, with proofs of the letter written to the Accountant General of the Federation by the Deputy Governor of CBN. The VCs who had earlier met with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala further broke out the copy of the letter written by the Permanent Secretary to the ASUU leadership detailing the resolution reached at the meeting with the President, and the pattern and timelines for the implementation of the projects. At the close of the meeting, the VCs left with the ASUU leadership to the National Universities Commission, NUC, where they met with top government officials and the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Julius Okojie. A source who attended the meeting said it was fruitful as the ASUU leadership, the Committee of Vice Chancellors, the NUC and the officials of the Federal Ministry of Education agreed on the constitution of a Monitoring and Implementation committee to see through the execution of projects under the first tranche of N200billion, already confirmed by the CBN. The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, it was said also presented a copy of the letter confirming the release of the funds to the ASUU leadership. On Wednesday morning, the leadership of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, met with the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike in his office at the Federal Ministry of Education. Also in attendance were the representatives of the NUC and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. The meeting, it was learnt, discussed the key points of concessions reached at the Tuesday meeting with ASUU leadership and the setting up of the Monitoring and Implementation Committee. The Minister and the selected Vice Chancellors left for the Presidential Villa to ratify the decision reached. 3 Likes |

Education / ASUU Aftermath, A Reason To Rethink(must Read) by tobikush1(m): 2:02pm On Nov 20, 2013 |
I have never been this useless in my entire life! said Afolabi, not just me, he further affirmed, but also some of my friends in the neighborhood who are also affected with this ASUU Strike, he further explained to me that the joy of every student is to enjoy the necessary basic amenities of life as a student, which ranges from access to fast Internet service, constant electricity, access to good communication channel, access to student loan, stable school calendar and others, but in Nigeria very few of the student population enjoy this amenities. Having said that, in his terribly voice further explained to me that major malady to an average student now in Nigeria is the ASUU Strike where most students are jobless and finds it difficult to invest or involve in something positive, the reason is so simple because of the challenges in the Nigerian state itself whereby graduates already finds it difficult in getting the undesired job talk less of desired ones, even my girlfriend is complaining badly he said, and I regret ever been born in this country called Nigeria. ‘’you cannot choose how you were born but you can choose the kind of life you wanted for yourself whether rich or poor, influential or as a pauper…..was the response I gave, he paused, while I further explained. It is true that most of us finds it difficult to find something positive doing now, but the truth is this might be the same situation when we graduate from school, as a result of the high level of unemployment in the country, and mind you, now there is still hope that one day ASUU might call of the Strike but after graduation there won’t be any form of resumption where you will be left to decide alone on your next plan for the nearest future……. this I explained to him in accordance to other students affected which could serve as a reminder that there are more challenges to come after graduation, as a result, every student must understand that his own priority to succeed must be above any other thing, this calls for all of us to discover our various talent and try to develop it during this break and beyond, God has never created anyone without a talent, the likes of Kaffy(dancer), 2face (Musician), Omotola(Artiste), Wole Soyinka (writer), Fela Durotoye(Speaker) and many others have utilized their talents with the education they had, and each and everyone’s talent doesn’t disturb the others in attaining his/her greatness, that is why Bishop Idahosa said ‘’birds fly without disturbing one another in the sky, so also you are too talented to envy others talent. I also believe that ‘’the smallest fish can swim better than the biggest bird in the water, so also the smallest bird can fly better than the biggest fish in the sky’’ this simply means whatsoever your talent is you are far better off than someone else in your own way, and the present World hardly celebrates certificate but discoveries, what makes you great is the value you have been able to contribute to the world through your discoveries and ideas. One of my favourite quote is ‘’ don’t ask what the world needs, but ask what makes you come alive, because what the world needs is those who have come alive’’……we students need to ask ourselves this question on the reason why we are here on earth and try to develop towards it, and mind you your education is to boost whatsoever talent or field you have choosen, it’s high time each and every student affected by this strike to discover what they have passion for and start developing themselves towards it. The nearest future would be worst if we fail to plan for it, hardwork pays when it is been done on the right track, and I have never seen anyone who invested so much with God in his talent and ended up frustrated, whatever worth doing is worth doing well they say. And at this stage I have to drop my pen and continue some other time because we ‘’ the youth’’ finds it difficult in reading long article, and in my final remarks remember that the value you place on yourself determines your worth, just as a plate of ‘’FuFu’’ is sold for 150naira in some restaurant around my hostel in Iworoko, Ekiti State, and still been sold for 5,000naira in other big hotels, the same illustration can be applied to individuals life, the knowledge digested and value placed on yourself determines how the world values you, remember you can be late and still be the latest and It’s not about the age in your life that matters but the life in your age……discover yourself and develop yourself towards the greatness you desire step by step, nobody was born great at a point every great individual you see worked towards it and you too can be one……… this was the same way I told my friend Afolabi, he sighs and puts a smile on his face while we both appreciated the time spent together and both took our time to attend to other things later in the day…….. Education / ASUU Update:fg Can’t Negotiate With ASUU Without NSIWC by tobikush1(m): 9:39pm On Nov 19, 2013 |
The ASUU Strike 2013 latest news update is that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, Aloysius Etok has made it known that the negotiations between the Federal Government and ASUU would amount to nothing if the National Income, Salaries and Wages Commission is not involved. Personally I don't know why this strike is getting more complicated by the day or what do you think guys? www.ngscholars.com/2013/11/ASUU-strike-update-fg-cant-negotiate-with-ASUU-without-nsiwc/ |

Aggrippa: OP you have done well. God bless you. this is what i am saying if ASUU call off strike now and you rush to graduate, there is the likelyhood that you will (1) be halfbaked (2) a little bit unemployable (3) you might stay another 4-5 years at home before you get that dream gainfull employment that pays you millions. so as you can see its all the same situation. ASUU should just continue the strike so that stubborn govt can come to their senses and start fixing the rot in our educational system. meanwhile those students affected by the strike should learn one or two things, start some trade, JAVA, programming, Photoshop, Coreldraw. the govt we have today still behave like the leaders of the slave trade era, were their people are confined into perpetual bondage and suffrage and are constantly denied the basic necessities of life.thanks much.,i really appreciate your view towards it also |

Politics / An Advice To Mr President.(an Article By Tobikush) by tobikush1(m): 10:25pm On Sep 04, 2013 |
Seeing off a friend at Murtala Muhammed international Airport in Lagos I was amazed with the high number of people migrating in search for greener pastures away from the various maladies in this country, this baffles me, more also an average Nigeria will wake up to ask that what is really wrong with this country? , this statement brought about an attention into the ‘’state of the Nigerian State’’, in a country been blessed with various mineral resources and knowledgeable individuals, don’t be surprise that the same country is been characterized with bigotry and much more prejudice among her various ethnic groups which amounts to about 250 with Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo as the dominant. As a result of this, a leader doesn’t need a prophet to tell him that he needs to be a good advocate of good governance before he can win the trust of the people in order to win their mandate continuously. This draws my attention into writing this article titled “Notice to Mr President”, Mr president Sir, am very much aware that you are absolutely drawing nearer to a state of total turmoil as a result of the menace procuring into a strong malady to the Nigerian State as a whole, ranging from the Boko Haram insurgence, failure among different governmental agencies, various institutional strike, Bad roads, Lack of good infrastructure, internal strife in People’s Democratic Party (PDP) towards 2015 election and many others. And am so much aware as a citizen of this great nation that all these vices are major threat to the sustainability of your position and the stand of your political party which is said to be one of the strongest and dominant, not only this, also the standard of living of the people, security and betterment of all which was the primary reason why men had the Social Contract in the first place and in my little own contribution present to you this advice. Starting from ‘’Education’’ which affects myself as a student of the great institution (Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State). Sir, it is no new saying that ‘’Education makes people easy to govern and difficult to mislead’’ which means that a country that fails in educating his populace has a long way in curbing internal violence, I personal with my research realized that no nation can be at best if it fails in investing much in education, the likes of United State of America, Britain are not leading through natural resources they possess but through investment in Education, out of 10 leading universities in the world America has over six and Britain having two, also looking into a country like Malaysia which is characterized as second world realized that the first thing to do is to invest so much on education. Sir, any country that fails in educating her citizens eventually tends to be faced with various insurgence (e.g Boko Haram), political thugs, high rate of poverty, and high number of illiterate which is a major threat to a country like ours. Developed countries don’t even celebrate certificates anymore but discoveries, but the question in our own situation is how we can celebrate discoveries when people are not even well educated. Now it is ‘’show me a country that has failed in educating the populace and I will show you a failed state’’. Sir in the respect towards the turbulence in your political party and also your zeal towards contesting 2015 election, sir, if I were you I will personally focus more on achieving more goals which you have set in your manifesto, I will personal make good governance my priority, focus more on electricity, rehabilitation of our health sector, eradication of corruption, meeting the demands of ASUU in a more diplomatic way, promotion of indigenous goods, enhancement of social security programs which has never happened before in Nigeria except Ekiti-State( am not party affiliated here but been objective), provision of job opportunities, minimization of ministerial appointment and other extravagant spending, focusing more on more profitable sources of income like agriculture and many more. Sir, with these and many more with the remaining time you have in this first term, I can bet you that you don’t need to convince the people much before winning their mandate unless if the situation is metaphysical, as a result, Nigerians will also see you as their messiah whom God has sent, as you know that for us in Nigeria ‘’Religion is the opium of the masses’’ that is where we the masses put all hopes, that is why an American citizen will tell you that what is it that he wants that his government can’t do and here in Nigeria we believe that there is nothing the government can do except God. Sir in my final remarks I will like to indulge you to make those sacrifice for the people you govern if truly you want them to make sacrifice for you coming this 2015 election, I wish you the best sir in the remaining years of your first term in office, and i pray GOD grants you the wisdom needed more to continue with the service, with love SIR. i really love this article, but the truth is everything in life as principles , and also coming out with first class, you cant get a first class by going for pleasures, cause what you do extra makes you an extra ordinary pperson, and also we must be carefull with the kind of relationship we fall in especially girls they decrease your level of learning. |
