1. History of the Osun Osogbo Festival
The origin and story of Osun festival started over 700 years ago when a group of settlers led by one great hunter Olutimehin, settled at the bank of the river to escape the famine in their former dwelling place. Osun, the water goddess was said to have appeared to Olutimehin and requested him and his group to move up some bit to higher ground – the present Osogbo town.

Politics › Re: Osun Stakeholders Drag Aregbesola Before EFCC, Submit Petition by Tolexander: 9:38am On Aug 11, 2015
erunz:
A group, Osun Stakeholders, on Monday in Lagos delivered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a petition against the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, urging the anti-graft agency to investigate an alleged financial recklessness of the governor in the last five years.
The petition dated August 10, 2015 and submitted at the EFCC’s Lagos office was titled: “Petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola for financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources,” was signed by the conveners of the group, Messrs Niyi Owolade and Yinka Odumakin and addressed to the commission’s chairman.
In the petition, a copy of which was made available to newsmen after it was submitted by Odumakin at the Commission’s Lagos office, the group called for a forensic audit of the Osun government accounts.
The group, which bemoaned the series of loans obtained by the Aregbesola’s government, said that the petition was borne out of the resolution reached at its stakeholder’s summit held on July 23, 2015.
Part of the petition read: “It is instructive to note that after the summit on Osun State on July 23, where the whistle was blown, Rauf Aregbesola gave another figure through one of his aides, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, now claiming that Osun State got N177 billion from Federation Account (not N108 billion again) and N27 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) (against N43 billion verifiable) totalling N204 billion instead of N317 billion.
“Governor Aregbesola, three years ago, launched with fanfare, a computer project called Opon Imo through which N8.4 billion was squandered, yet there is no tablet in operation in the state, till today.
“We are also aware that while salaries of members of staff remain unpaid, Governor Aregbesola has been drawing security votes in the region of N502 million every month. We request that these votes be audited to determine if same is truly being spent on security.
“In view of the foregoing, it is clear that Rauf Aregbesola has mortgaged the future of the state. It is, therefore imperative that the EFCC get to the root of the financial scam committed by Aregbesola’s government.
“It might be necessary to unveil the companies, who are beneficiaries of the white elephant projects embarked upon with these loans.”
Addressing newsmen thereafter, Odumakin, assured that the group was poised to ensure that the EFCC wade into the alleged corruption, financial recklessness, among other vices that had characterised the regime of Aregbesola by investigating the governor and bring him to justice.

bonechamberlain:
hmm, I wish a southerner would be president during the census, cause this counting of all living things in the north must stop. been to the north before I don't see how big their population is that a state like kano is bigger in population than Lagos. the only thing the north has is land mass u can travel for 5km on the road in the north without seeing a single hut. the first step for true change by APC is to make this census thing right, for the first time in Nigeria. but with the way am seeing it. this government of the north would make sure the north gets a big advantage in the census.
who was the President during the March, 2006 election?
Is Obasanjo a northerner?

Moreover, you people come here to cite a long distance voyage as the reason to undermine the population of the northern part of the country, is land area not a determinant of population density again?
so you expect the North with that vast land area to be densly populated as the South of relatively small landmass?

I'm not supporting the false figures on the NPC data, but just setting things straight on the 'Marco polo' like reason undermining the northern population.

Politics › Re: Tinubu Mustn’t Influence New Ooni’s Selection – George by Tolexander:
There is no way Tinubu can't influence the emergence of the New Ooni of Ife. Aregbesola, Tinubu's boy is the Governor with constitutional right to chose among the 3 nominees by the traditional kingmakers, the same way Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo influenced the emergence of the demised Oba Okunade Sijuade. BAT influential role is allowed, only if BAT isn't interested.

we all saw what happened in Kano when Lamido Sanusi Lamido emerged.

If Iyiola Omisore was announced to have won the election exactly a year ago, Omisore being the Governor, wouldn't Bode George play an influential role in the emergence of the new Ooni?
Okunade Sijuade was the traditional head of PDP, no problem if APC can turn the table ti their side now.

Moral: Bode George should stop being jealous of Bola Ahmad Tinubu's role.
