Me, my wife and son going to visit my cousin in New York and for Christmas holiday.

V.O: Can I have your passport?
Me: (handed over the 3 passports)
V.O: Where are you going in the U.S?
Me: I JUST WENT OFF!!! (After several months of rehearsal oo)
Wife: (quickly comes in) we are going to visit my sister-in-law @ bla bla New York.
V.O: (cuts in) trying to correct my wife, that your husband’s first cousin is not your in-law.
Me: (comes in) in Nigeria here, any relatives from the husband side, wives do call them in-law. She is my first cousin, we share the same grandparents, my dad and her mum shared the same parent, we did our childhood together before she traveled.
V.O: (keeps quiet) and continue typing for few seconds.
(my wife looking at me) telling me to say something.
V.O: (facing my wife) I can see you’re both in the same business.
(We both nod in the affirmative.)
V. Oface me) What do you do?
Me: I’m a certified graphic artist and the owner of bleep printing company in Nigeria and in two other countries, we specialize in wholesale and retail of printing materials, graphic design bla bla bla.
V.O: can I have your business card?
Me: (trying to check my pocket) oh I left it in the car.
Wife: (showing him) I have my staff id here.
V.O: don’t worry.
V.O: (facing me) how many staffs do you have?
Me: 45 staffs… 30 in Nigeria (20 major and 10 on contract), 15 outside Nigeria.
V.O: Nodding his head
V.O: You’ve been to Ghana?
Me: (Shocked) I flew in to Ghana and took a road trip to Nigeria.
V.O: Oh that was fun
Me: No I took commercial bus
V.O: That wasn’t fun
V.O: Keeps typing for few seconds and remove my wife’s old passport and return it to her, took the rest of our passport inside the drawer.

Me and wifey whispering to each other that IT IS HAPPENING!!!

He didn’t even say the “golden word” (I’ll be approving your visa)

V.O: brings out the white paper and start saying information on this paper will direct you on how to pick your passport bla bla bla.


THIS IS A MIRACLE AND GOD IN ACTION!!!

What I noticed is that, the information you filled on your DS-160 form has given them a picture of your profile, I think they’ve already concluded whether to issue or not before the interview, the interview is just for you to come and defend what you filled online, because We practiced over 30 questions but only these few was asked.

A big Thanks to this platform Nairaland, 2 months to our interview, my wife and I have been actively reading all pages of this thread day and night and all thanks to God it was worth it.

I genuinely wanted to answer this question, thinking the person who asked it has good intentions.

But let me give you the benefit of a doubt; why is it that you must travel to the US for vacation? Can't you travel to Ghana, Dubai or even Kenya? These countries are great vacation destinations and won't cost you an arm or leg.

I will tell you a true story. A guy came to me in late 2016 wanting to run away from Nigeria. He wanted to go to the US and never come back. He met me in Sheraton Abuja, I asked him some questions, do you have a car? He said Yes. What model of car? he said 2006. What do you do? he said contracts.

I advised him like a brother to put down his pride and register with Uber to become both a Partner and a Driver. He listened to me and went ahead to do as I said.

Fast forward June 2018, this guy presently has 3 cars in his fleet(that means he employs 2 other people) and he is expecting the 4th one before the end of the year. He is getting married in December 2018.

The last time we spoke, I jokingly asked him. You don't want to travel to America again? He said my boss not now o, maybe for my honeymoon.

See, I understand the frustration in Nigeria, I get it. Things are really bad for a lot of people, but you have to find out first what do you have? Like the Prophet, Elijah asked the widow, what do you have in your house? She said empty jars and that was very useful in taking her out of her bad situation.

I am not being insensitive to the issues in Nigeria. But I will tell you that very many people are not finding it easy in the US.

If you really want to go to the US why not plan it very well, so you don't run into troubles and also violate your visa condition.

There are many visa categories you can explore. There is the L1 Visa you can apply for to help you set up a company in the US. If you are an artist or musician, you can look for a company or agent to help you get a gig in the US and sponsor your P3 visa.

We don't have to always go for the B1/B2 visa with the intent of violating it.

I hope this true-life story will help someone here.

For the Transcript, a little Background. I'm to go to the US for 2 weeks for a company sponsored training programme, Company lawyers handled all Immigration related issues. I only had to pay the Visa fee and go for Interview. The company is based in the UK and I'm to go there after Training.

After Pleasantries,

Me: Training programme by Bleep company for new employees
VO: Where in the US?
Me: New York
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as a XYZ
VO: When did you get the job with Bleep?

This Twoods story.. is just a clear example of how corruption fights back with people that have a clear stance on certain issues. I would have to say it was extremely low... for whoever brought his brother's issue to this thread. We all hide under the guise of wanting a better Nigeria, but would still castigate people for saying the right things no matter their approach.

It was all the Grace of God especially hearing about the trouble with itemised billing and proving that bills were not transferred to insurance or taxpayers. Neverthelesss, we went very prepared in terms of documentation.

Every Govt organisation must have a budget plan for the fiscal year and no matter how much they make in Nigeria, I'm sure the funding of such budget will not come from income from consulate service, it's a peanut when compared with what they charge and make in India,China and Mexico.
Nigerian tourist in U.S is less than 5% annually even though they issue visa for 20% of applicant meaning we misuse our tourist visa most of the time. If Nigerian decided to stop applying for U.S visa, it will not affect U.S Govt.
