Hello Nairalanders,
I heard a very disturbing incident that happened at the embassy very recently. According to my source,a lady's visa was approved and just as she was about leaving, she was called back by the same VO who interviewed her and guess what, her visa was revoked.

Is this possible?

Anything is possible. This is what some people might term village people followed her to the embassy.

That embassy is not smiling at all. I just thank God for His grace.

Congrats bro and hope you enjoy your upcoming visit here.

I invited my mom for a visit and her date is in two weeks time.

Do you by chance noticed if parents who plan to visit their kids here being denied too?

Just curious sad

Hello great people
Please do I need to go with my statement of account for visa interview, since I am having my invitation letter for an organization inviting me for a training? Thanks in anticipation of your responses

I have a problem with the bolded section of your comment. Lieing should not be an option. Needless say, more truthfully. Perhaps I am reading it wrongly but what I understand is that there are elements of lies but should be put more truthfully.

. . . and your point is?

I am not a professor of linguistics but a simple google search on the phrases "half truth, whole truth and more truthfully" in the context that it was used should give you a better understanding.

Best of luck finding understanding

I have already visited and back in Nigeria.

I was not preview to parent that was invited. However, if you are have a US passport, I would strongly advise you send her the data page of your passport for her to give to the VO. I observed it swung the decision for a lady that was invited. As soon as the VO received the data page and punched some things into the system, she smiled and after further questions, she was issued.
Best of lucks because I am afraid that a lot of elderly people were not granted. Before, when you are elderly, it seems a bonus. With the US embassy these days, you just prepare as best as you can and pray God favours you.

This is sad. It is possible the VO saw something that was missed during the interview. This is so very sad. I saw a lady that was asked to report at the embassy when we were at the airport checking in. But i think some people have some unresolved issues that warrants such decisions.

This is a clear case of satisfying the burden of proof. Congratulations!!! There is nothing like over talking here, you are trying to prove your case. B1/B2 visa is a discretionary visa, so you have to appeal to their discretion truthfully. It's not rocket science. Congratulations once more.

Thanks so much. But with this US embassy, there don't seem to be a way of doing it right to be sure of getting the visa. I witnessed a lot of interviews that went well yet was refused. Some people answered their questions very well, had good travel history, had their burden of proofs, etc. But were refused. I remember the case of a lady who had a child about 8 yrs ago, she has been doing drop box, travel to the states every year (i got this from her interview as she was being asked questions pertaining to some of those travels). The VO even asked questions about her recent travel to france. Yet she was refused. This is someone that has done drop box several times. Yet one lady that has only been to Spain was issued the visa. It just shows there is no fast rule but we should try to tick all the boxes as much as we can and hope the system approves our visas.

My wife’s transcript is thus:
DW: Good morning
VO: Good morning. Please pass your passport?
DW: okay. (Passing the passport). I have to inform you about changes in my DS-160 application form.
VO: Go ahead.
DW: My husband might not be coming with us for the vacation as he is likely to travel to other places on business during that period.
VO: Okay. What does he do?
DW: He works with ABC .
VO: What does he do?
DW: (knowing she didn’t answer well). He does M,N,O,P for ABC
VO: How much does he earn.
DW:He earns NXXXXXXX
VO: (Still typing) How many kids do you have?
DW: Two and one was born in the states.(i told her to lead the VO to the childbirth since it was apparent that is what they are looking for)
VO: Okay, how much did you spend for the child birth?
DW: Excluding living expenses, we spent $ xxxxx. That includes documentation for the child.(Opened her big folder to bring out budget sheet . zero balance, itemised bills, etc )
VO: No need. (Continues typing)
VO: How long do you intend staying?
DW: Two weeks maximum
VO: Does your husband have a visa?
DW: Yes, he has just been issued a visa few minutes ago as he has a meeting in the states next week.
VO: (Types for a while and later smiled) Oh, I can see that.
VO: Your visa has been approved, this paper explains……
DW: Thank you so much!

It was all the Grace of God especially hearing about the trouble with itemised billing and proving that bills were not transferred to insurance or taxpayers. Neverthelesss, we went very prepared in terms of documentation.

Truth, proper planning, systematically being upfront and perfect timing of "unsolicited" answers at work here.... They read you, you read them, and both parties are happy.

And that brings me to the aspect of them repeating questions, most times it's because it's not sitting right and they are offering you the opportunity to clarify. And this too is where if you are misrepresenting, game then is almost up!

POE was Houston (IAH)
I prepared for a long interview at the POE so I carried all my burden of proof relating to the child birth (I don’t want stories that touch).
ME: Good afternoon
CBP: Good afternoon.
ME: (Handed in my passport without waiting for him to ask.) (I also made sure I displayed my bundle of old passport which from their covers were looking very rugged. I wanted him to realise that I have travel history and USA is no big deal really)
CBP: Have you been in the states before?
ME: Yes, you can see the proof of my last visit in the old visa at the back of the passport. I was here in …..for child birth. However, I came in twice that year as I escorted them here and came back to escort them back.
CBP: Okay (Turned the passport to the last page and scrutunised it. He then turned to his screen to read for a while)
CBP: What are you here for?
Me: Business meeting in …….
CBP: When is the meeting?
Me: The meeting is for DD & DD but my company policy is for atleast 24hrs rest prior to meeting and before long haul travel. So I intend to stay 6 days.
CBP: Welcome back to the United States. Enjoy your visit sir.(Stamped me in for 6 months)
Me: Thank you very much and do have a nice day.
Time at CBP was about 2 mins max

I am back in Nigeria since. I spent just the 6 days i estimated.

I just pray the visa process will become easier and those people spoiling us for the embassy should please desist.

I wish all applicants the best.

Thank you all for your contributions as it was very instrumental in our success.

You are right. It was just grace of God. I maintain that there is no sure way with the US embassy. Someone could have all the boxes ticked and it will end in denial. It just God's favour.

My first observation to both transcripts is that both of them orchestrated a situation in which the VO's question was inferred from it. Just like taking the fight to the lion. Just saying...I stand to be corrected though.
