Air Peace launches Ibadan-Abuja Flight

https://thenationonlineng.net/air-peace-launches-ibadan-operations

Air Peace yesterday - 17/08/2021- launched scheduled flights into Ibadan Airport, in Oyo State.

The airline was received by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji at the airport.

The inaugural flight, operated with the airline’s brand new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, touched down about 11 am and was greeted with a water cannon by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Fire Service unit.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said the coming of the airline to the state was a big relief to the city travellers as the airline has immediately “crashed the airfare from Ibadan to Abuja to affordable level”.

Makinde said the state would make the route economically viable for the airline.

He said: “The coming of Air Peace will strengthen and enhance the economy of the state. We have a dry Port here that will facilitate the clearing of goods in record time. This will take the stress off importers in the state and neighbouring states and save them the stress of going to Lagos port to clear goods.”

Makinde inspects on-going Akobo flyover, Lekan Salami Stadium, Ajia-Airport-Ife Expressway projects

…says govt ‘ll continue to improve sport facilities to empower youths, develop Oyo economy

Oyo State governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Friday, inspected on-going infrastructure projects in Ibadan, including the Akobo-General Gas Flyover, the 21-kilometer Ajia-Airport-New Ife Expressway road, with spur to Amuloko and the Lekan Salami Sport Complex remodeling project.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of the works being done by the contractors, saying that he was excited with the pace of work done so far.
They have made substantial progress with the stadium remodeling. Gov Makinde's performance is commendable.

Thank you very much for the pictures @ Omoluabi1stborn.

Makinde receives NASS joint Committee on Aviation

…urges FG to uplift Ibadan Airport

…says Oyo willing to apply for takeover

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, asked the Federal Government to take necessary steps to uplift the standard of the Ibadan Airport, declaring that making Ibadan a regional airport will benefit the state and the national economy.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, further quoted the governor as saying that the state was willing to lead the charge to turnaround the airport if the Federal Government would agree to hand it over.

He noted that the Ibadan Airport should readily serve as the alternate airport to Lagos, adding that instead of diverting international flights to Accra, Ghana, Ibadan would serve Nigeria better.

The governor also said that an upgraded Ibadan airport would help improve the state’s economy beyond oil. He stated that the state would be able to develop its solid minerals deposits including some of the best tourist sites like the hanging lake at Ado-Awaye and the Ikere Gorge Dam.

He added that since the Federal Government was already thinking of concessioning the airports in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano, it could as well cede the Ibadan Airport to Oyo on a PPP.
I agree wholeheartedly with Gov Makinde. Ibadan needs a befitting upgraded airport. The
feds should allow the state to fund the upgrade via PPP as requested.

@Kevapet was discussing this airport issue in one of his posts as well.

Kudos to Gov Seyi Makinde. In just 2 years as governor, he has achieved quite a bit.

It will be completed whichever way. It's NDDC financed.
I hope so; the project is to be jointly funded by the NDDC and ODSG. The governor would
have to lobby hard to ensure it is not delayed.

Also Federal high court in rivers state has given the VAT tax power to the states which I expects our governors to take advantage and get to work..
Great for the governors, but I suspect the ruling will be challenged at the supreme court.

There is need to make Odua Group to function well and not just be sharing money and selling bonds. And it's high time SW governors charge the company with an agenda. How can they mismanage the western region properties from 21 to 5 and no one is saying anything.
Imagine Odua Group paying a paltry 364 million naira as dividend for FY 2020. That is less than
US$900,000 for all SW states!

I know they once invested heavily in oduatel when gsm was launched. Big time loss. They need to refocus badly.
