07-07-2014 Police Foil Attempt to Bomb Secondary School in Gombe...thisday An attempt to bomb some final year students of Government Day Secondary School (Pilot), in Tudun Wada area of Gombe metropolis who were writing their mathematics examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) was yesterday foiled by the state police command. Few residents of the town into fear yesterday afternoon as most of them scampered for their lives after the police discovered a Honda Odyssey laden with heavy explosives in the school that is directly opposite the Gombe Police Area Command. The state Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Kudu Nma, said they received a distressed call from the area between 10:30a.m. and 11a.m. and immediately moved its bomb disposal experts who succeeded in defusing the heavy laden explosives in the premises of the school while the final year students were writing their mathematics examination. The suicide bomber who defied thes ecurity guards at the gate of the school, tried to detonate the bomb by hitting the car several times on the walls of the school but could did succeed. On close inspection by the police, it was discovered that the vehicle was loaded with 10 long and short cylinders believed to contain explosives, two ammunition boxes suspected to be carrying explosive substances. Following the discovery, the commands bomb disposal unit quickly went into action and succeeded in disconnecting the explosives which enabled the police to remove the vehicle and all the explosives to the command headquarters for further investigation. The police commissioner, who could not say whether or not any arrest had been made, however told journalists that investigation would disclose it and that the public would not be left in the dark. The commissioner added that but for the quick intervention of the police, the explosives would have caused monumental destruction and killed all students who were writing their NECO examinations in the hall. He said the scene was cordoned off so as not to kill the command’s line of investigation. The police boss added that going by the number and weight of the explosive cylinders, the blast would have affected or destroyed houses and persons as far as 800 metres away from the school |

The Police in Rivers State arrested yesterday House of Assembly Leader Chidi Lloyd over the death of Police Sergeant Urang Obadiah and a politician, Kingsley Ejeuo. According to a statement by police spokesman Ahmad K. Mohammad, Lloyd was arrested on his way to the Air Force base where he was going to escape the arrest in Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s private jet. Mohammad alleged that the House leader drove his bullet proof vehicle in a reckless manner to kill the two victims at the Emohua on the East-West road on December 30, last year. He said the police initially thought it was an accident until further investigations proved otherwise. Lloyd’s lawyer Emenike Ebete could not be reached last night for his reaction. The police statement reads: “The Rivers State Police Command has arrested Hon. Chidi Llyod of the Rivers State House of Assembly for murder of Police Sgt. Urang Obediah and Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, his kinsman and arch political opponent. “He was arrested on his way to join His Excellency Governor Amaechi Rotimi in his private jet at the Air Force base to escape justice. “Hon. Chidi Lloyd while pursuing his political opponent, Ejeuo, hit and knocked down Sgt. Urang Obediah, in his (Obadiah’s) effort to stop him (Lloyd). “He rammed over the Passat car in which Ejeuo was driving, killing him on the spot. “The Police initially thought it was a mere accident which ought to have been a manslaughter, not until Lloyd relocated from the initial private hospital where he was being treated, after ACP Aliyu Garba by the directives of CP Mbu J. Mbu visited him that the Police began to raise suspicion and went into further investigations on the purported accident. ”Conscious of what he did, Chidi Lloyd relocated to another hospital. It was later that facts emerged that Chidi Lloyd drove a bullet proof vehicle while pursuing his political opponent late Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo and he knocked down the police Sergeant who died on the spot and moved ahead and smashed Ejeuo’s Passat car, killing him also on the spot. “The late Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo who hailed from the same place with Lloyd was a member of PDP. “While being guarded by four police in his hospital bed, he sneaked out through the hospital’s back door in three tinted bullet proof jeeps and escaped.” Police claimed. Lloyd a member representing Emohua LGA is standing trial on attempted murder of his colleague Michael Chinda during the last July 9, fracas at the floor of the state House. The case was adjourned to November 27 for hearing on application to quash the information against him. The matter did not go on following the state-imposed public holiday to mark the Port Harcourt centenary celebration. No further date has been fixed for the matter. Police lied, says CPS The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. David Iyofor, said last night of the police account of the arrest: “It is most preposterous and outrageous for the police to say that. Escape to where? Does it make any sense to escape from Port Harcourt to Abuja? Is Abuja not within the Federal Republic of Nigeria? It’s a blatant lie.” Posted by: Rosemary Nwisi, Port Harcourt in News 5 hours ago |
Senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial Zone, Alhaji Ahmed Barata has placed a curse on gifts and donations disbursed to members of his constituency in a bid to ensure all beneficiaries of his empowerment programme vote for him at the upcoming elections. While making his donations, the senator made the stunning utterance, informing anybody who was a beneficiary of his gifts and still refused to vote for him in the forthcoming 2015 general election would be punished by God. Irked by the statement, some members of his constituency were said to have shunned the empowerment package and quietly left the scene, while some vowed they would collect his gift but they would still not vote for him because his constituency had benefited nothing from him. Others who took his curse with a pinch of salt said if God were to punish anybody, the senator would be first on His list. Speaking to newsmen, some of the senator constituents who craved anonymity said the empowerment package distributed by the senator was a charade to give the impression that he was popular in the constituency which he had abandoned for a long time. “The attempt by the senator to undertake this charade is to atone for the sins he committed against us, as he realises that 2015 is fast approaching, and the only way he could make his way back into reckoning was by offering us this Greek gift,” one his constituents said. While disbursing the donations, which included grinding machines, sewing machines, hairdressing equipment, and local irrigation equipment for dry season farming, the senator said poverty must be reduced to the barest minimum to allow peace thrive in the area. According to Barata, poverty is the root cause of all evil acts in the society ranging from the consumption of hard drugs to women and child trafficking and other forms of criminal vices. He said in his quest to eradicate poverty, he had facilitated the employment of more than 35 graduates from all the nine local governments of his constituency as well as providing a computer centre in Jada and Numan Local Governments Areas http://www.informationng.com/2013/11/god-will-punish-anyone-who-takes-my-gift-without-voting-for-me-in-2015-senator-tells-constituency.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+InformationNigeria+%28INFORMATION+NIGERIA%29

Amaechi, Wike disagree on Rivers PDP Posted by: Bisi Olaniyi in News 7 hours ago The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, said he and other stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will compel the leadership of the ruling party to expel Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. He declared that the mere mention of Amaechi’s name was a taboo, stressing that the governor’s stay in the PDP in Rivers state was likely to affect the members in the general elections and alleged that Rivers people no longer wanted him. Wike, who is the grand patron of a socio-political organisation, the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), also raised the alarm that Amaechi was planning to eliminate him and other leaders of the PDP and GDI, who were opposed to his style of governance. The Supervising Minister of Education stated that the dissolution of the 23 local government areas of Rivers state and imposition of caretaker committees by the governor would be resisted. Wike spoke yesterday at the secretariat of Omuma LG council in Eberi, amid tight security, during the thanksgiving and inauguration of the GDI in the local government’s 10 wards. Access to Omuma council headquarters was refused by council Chairman, John Anucha, with the main road from Etche to Imo and Abia States, where the council secretariat is located, barricaded by policemen, about a kilometre to the venue of the rally. Wike flew a chopper belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), marked 5N BAF and painted white, with yellow and red stripes. The helicopter dropped him, went back and later returned to pick the supervising minister of education. Amaechi, however, stated that the GDI members broke into the Omuma council secretariat, with the aid of policemen and soldiers, while the council chairman was pushed out of the place. He described Wike as ignorant and that he (governor) had no record of violence. The Rivers governor, who spoke through the Chief of Staff, Chief Tony Okocha, described the move by Wike and others to expel him from the PDP as very unfortunate. “He (Wike) should be able to define what revolution is. Revolution could be ideological. When the governor talked about revolution, he was not talking about carrying arms.” On the move to resist the imposition of caretaker committees in Rivers LGAs, Amaechi said: “He (Wike) is talking from the point of view of ignorance. That is the minister’s level of understanding. I believe he should be conversant with what the law says about the power of the governor to dissolve local government council,” Okocha said. While commenting on Wike’s allegation of plan by Amaechi to eliminate him and some opposition politicians, he said: “Governor Amaechi and his supporters are Christians and have no such tendency. We do not have any record of violence.” The Rivers governor was in May recommended by the Obuah-led PDP to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for suspension, for alleged anti-party activities. He has been on suspension since then. The minister of state for education also stated that by holding the GDI’s rally at Omuma council; headquarters, the people showed commitment to a just cause, ability to stand and resist lawlessness and impunity. He stressed that he heard the chairman of Omuma council on radio, calling on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, to help Omuma people, that GDI members had taken over the secretariat, which he described as laughable. The education minister said: “In fact, you will hear it very soon. We will compel PDP (to expel Rivers governor). Amaechi’s stay in PDP in Rivers State is likely to affect us in general elections, because the Rivers people no longer want Amaechi. The mere mention of Amaechi’s name is a taboo. |

Latest acquisition brings to four planes in his fleet By Chinedu Eze A former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been blamed for fostering the terrorist Boko Haram sect in North-eastern Nigeria, has added another airplane to his fleet with his latest acquisition being a new Gulfstream jet G650 model that cost him an estimated $72 million (N11.5 billion). The aircraft, which was registered in Dubai with special specifications, is the fourth in his fleet, as the former governor already has three old Dornier aircraft which he acquired from Aero Contractors at an estimated $3 million (N480 million). THISDAY learnt that the Dornier aircraft are used for charter services as Sheriff recently obtained an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for his airline, Skybird. But a source said the Gulfstream was acquired for Sheriff's personal use. An operator who is aware of the purchase described the aircraft as top of the range, adding that it was unlikely that the former governor would deploy it for commercial service. A Nigerian pilot and chief executive officer of an airline that provides charter services, said by registering the aircraft overseas, Sheriff had denied Nigeria taxes and import duty on the aircraft. He added that no Nigerian pilot or engineer would be employed to operate or work on the aircraft because with the foreign registration, only pilots and engineers licensed in the United Arab Emirates would be authorised to operate and service the aircraft. “By registering the aircraft overseas, he has avoided tax and import duty, which he should pay to a country where he is a citizen and from which he made the money which he now spends on a foreign crew,” he said. The source also explained that Sheriff would also be paying overseas facility managers for the maintenance of the aircraft and would also pay charges to the company under which the aircraft was registered overseas. The main price of the aircraft is $65 million but other charges could have raised it to $72 million and according to US-based Forbes magazine, the Gulfstream G650 has an order book of 200 customers throughout the world. “A $65 million price tag doesn’t seem to detract from the fascination with this incredible airplane. While the rest of the business aviation industry is battling the depressed economy, there seems to be a buoyant market in the US and abroad for this ultra-high-priced, high-performance jet. “And why not? With a top speed of 92 per cent of the speed of sound (arguably the fastest civilian jet in the world), room for a basketball team, 8,000-statute-mile range and some of the most sophisticated avionics rivalling nearly anything in the sky, this airplane is perfect for doing business on a global scale. “Because of its superlatives, including price, however, it also appeals greatly to the ‘if you’ve got it, flaunt it’ crowd,” Forbes said on its Brand Voice website. Gulfstream described the aircraft as ultra-high-speed, ultra-long-range business jet and the gold standard in business aviation. The model was introduced in 2008 with a capacity for eight passengers and a crew of four on nonstop legs of 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) for standard configuration. “That means it will link Dubai with New York and London with Buenos Aires. With its powerful Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, the G650 will cover shorter distances at a speed of Mach 0.925. No traditional business jet will take you closer to the speed of sound,” Gulfstream said on its website. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ex-borno-governor-sheriff-acquires-72m-aircraft/163500/ |

Also in 2009, Rivers State budgeted over 344 Billion for capital projects, but had failed to provide any detail into actual projects (says NDCBP). Rivers State on the verge of perpetual fiscal corruption. Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State is having hard time explaining the use of fiscal provisions for public projects that are missing. The first supplementary budget application totaling N177.930 billion still have no details about applicability (2008 budget of Rivers State). Rivers State received nearly N1.5 trillion by way of statutory allocation as to N708 billion by former Governor Peter Odili in eight years. The law which gives the State Governor powers to unilaterally spend 30% of the State’s capital budget without any recourse to due process has been described as negating the tenets and principles of democracy. This assertion was made by the Co-ordinator of The Niger Delta Citizens and Budget Platform NDCBP, ken Henshaw at the public presentation/launch of 2011 Budget Monitoring and Analysis report of five States of the Niger Delta covering Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Akwa Ibom and Delta States." http://www.saction.org/home/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=196%3Arivers-state-public-procurement-act-an-aberration-ndcbp&catid=43%3Anews The worse that has happened to Rivers State right from time of her creation till now! What kind of man really is Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi? Let me quote from Governor CRA 2010 budget speech : “In terms of population, Rivers State is 6th in the Federation and higher than 131 countries in the world. The state is by population as big as Denmark, Norway, Singapore, and Ireland and bigger than Botswana, Namibia and Liberia just to mention a few. She produces about forty percent of Nigeria's crude and 100% of Nigeria's gas export. Coupled with her marine and rich agricultural potentials, she is in resources higher than many countries of the world. But there is a paradox which continued to remain a challenge, i.e. high level of contribution to the country's GDP and foreign income not reflected in the domestic economy. Our economy is still at the subsistence level; income is low and characterized by high unemployment. Most of the economic activities are still at the informal sector and mostly centred on rural agriculture.” Again he said I quote: "The health sub sector will also witness a massive turn around with the construction of 102 standard Primary Health care centres and hospitals across the State; the power projects to touch all the nooks and crannies of the State has begun, 506 kilometre of road construction, 30 bridges, four flyovers and five land reclamation/ shore protection projects". This will partially offset the discontinuation of the traditional Excess Crude Account (ECA), which in 2006-2010 represented about 20% of annual income and supported the state's revenue. With market oil prices at about USD100pb, Fitch expects Rivers' oil revenues to exceed NGN250bn by 2014, up from NGN182bn in 2010. http://www.riversstateminfin.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Rivers-State-Credit-rating-Report-2011-Draft.pdf Another report comparing population of Rivers States /Budget with some selected west African countries as at 2006 even when oil price in the international market was far less than what is obtainable now . Big Brother Nigeria’s Representative, Beverly Osu & South African, Angelo’s love seems to be growing stronger by the day. “I try to deny that I love you because I’m thinking it’s too early to love you when I don’t know how you are in the outside world,” Beverly said to Angelo and he replied saying “To be honest, I’m also kind of scared of knowing you on the outside”. Beverly quickly defended herself saying she has told him everything there is to know about her, including how she used to sleep with men for money to help her family and how she once had an abortion. She went on further to ask him a question “Can you marry a person like me?” Angelo replied “Yes, but would you marry someone like me?” Beverly said yes, that she loves him.

It is unfortunate that Nigerians do not like good things. I have lived in this town of Port Harcourt from the rulership period of military governors and administrators through the eight year civilian administration of Odili without any visible development to show for these many years of waste. Governor Amaechi have just been in office for only six years and people can now see some tangible things he has achieved within this period and yet Odili and his cohorts are calling for his head. The governor have commited no offence except that he has shown us that those who occupied the brick house all these years took the masses for a ride. I want to warn the people of Rivers State that they will regret their actions against Amaechi if they allow Odili and his stupid allies to deceive them into rising against the God sent Amaechi. One advice to Amaechi is that he should keep his head low and avoid actions that could speak against him. He is a child of circumstances and God never fails in His infinite mercies to protect, guide and guard people like him against the odds of the enemy. |
For those running and wagging their milky mouth like goat, have they forgotten the security situation in PORTHARCOURT and RIVERS STATE during ODILI'S reign.I do not want to trade words or pick issues with any one as everybody is entitled to his/her opinion. The truth must be said that AMAECHI is a complete deviation from what use to be in RIVERS STATE and NIGERIA at large. He represents the new face of leaders that we all are clamoring for in this country.MAY ALL WEAPON FASHIONED AGAINST HIM NOT PROSPER.If not for AMAECHI since DIETE SPIFF and MELFORD OKILO left the stage, the state has not witnessed any meaningful development.MAY ALL THOSE WHO LOOTED RIVERS STATE DRY AND PLUNGED HER INTO CRISES NOT KNOW PEACE.ODILI will surely meet his doom and Waterloo some day very soon because when you think you are so powerful, you will not know when you will make a very grave mistake that will bring you to an abrupt end.MAY GOD BLESS AMAECHI AND RIVERS STATE NIGERIA..... |

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news-update/corpse-of-missing-78-year-old-woman-found-in-sons-cupboard/ The Imo State Police Command has recovered the body of a 78-year-old woman, Mrs. Lucy Osigweh, who was declared missing in 2003. The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, disclosed yesterday that the woman’s lifeless body was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine located in her son’s private room. “The missing woman’s lifeless body was found in a village called Ezuru Umuagwu, Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State,” Katsina said. “The corpse of the 78-year-old Mrs. Osigweh, earlier declared missing in 2003, was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine of a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice. “The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years, was believed to have been placed in the warehouse by her son, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, a 64-year-old retired school principal.” KKatsina said there was every reason to believe that the late woman’s son is a member of a cult, adding: “Preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the late woman must have been murdered by her son for ritual purpose.” The Commissioner of police also said members of the cult used to hold secret meetings at night in the place, to enhance their occultic powers. “The principal suspect, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, who is the son of the woman, has been arrested and is making useful statement to the police,” the CP said. Katsina did not say how the police got wind of the crime, but sources reveal the late woman’s family from Amakohia, Awa, Oguta local council area, might have made the startling discovery and reported to the police. A villager from Amakohia who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that some villagers decided to double check earlier stories told by Osigweh of the inexplicable disappearance of their relation from her marital home. “On getting to Ejemekwuru, our people demanded to know why their relations had remained missing for 10 years. Her son told our villagers that his mother was mad at a point and ran away to unknown place. “Apparently not satisfied with the response, as well as the nonchalant attitude allegedly exhibited by her son, the villagers went beserk, destroying things in sight and ended up spotting the large cupboard containing the remains of their loved one. “With this startling discovery, the villagers quickly lodged a complaint with the police who subsequently swung into action,” another villager disclosed. |
