Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, on Wednesday, allegedly arrested the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The Head of Information, NLC, Benson Upah, who spoke to The PUNCH, noted that Ajaero was picked up at the state secretariat of the congress and taken to an unknown location.

“President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero was picked up a few minutes ago from NLC state council secretariat by heavily armed policemen in Owerri and taken to an unknown destination,” Upah informed our correspondent via a text message.

The PUNCH reports that the NLC had vowed to mobilise its members for a total strike in Imo state starting Today, November 1, 2023.

The federal character commissioner Representing Anambra State in the Federal Character commission has felicitated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,on his victory at the Supreme Court.

The apex court on Thursday dismissed the appeals by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party against Tinubu's earlier victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Court, as lacking in merit.

Hon(Rev) Ukadike described the judgment, which dismissed all the grounds of appeal formulated by Atiku and Obi, as excellent.

The federal character commissioner commended the apex court panel for being guided by the law and not by public sentiments or opinions in delivering its unanimous verdict in favour of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the verdict had brought an end to litigation in respect of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

This development will enable the President now to seriously focus on the business of governance to address developmental and economic issues confronting our great nation

He called Nigerians to support President Tinubu in his bid to actualize the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians.

He said I must commend the uncommon leadership qualities of Mr President, I have strong believe and faith that he would move the country to greatness and earn her recognition in the comity of Nations.

Hon(Rev) Ukadike said that the President decision to remove subsidy was topnotch and timely , emphasizing that it was long overdue ,he further charged the president to channel resources in infrastructural development of the country.

He further stated that the drive and passion of improving Nigerias economy is evident with his policies, ideology and agenda.

The President's effort to attract foreign investment can not be over emphasized,most recently at the G20 in India he was able to attract $3bn investment to Nigeria,this is just to mention the most recent foreign investment attracted by him.

I wish to also commend the judiciary and the judges of the PEPT in particular for their courage, capacity and neutrality as exemplified in their judgement. The judges have indeed demonstrated Capacity and professionalism by not adhering on the lies, mischief, blackmail and intimidation mounted by the petitioners, but also upholds the rule of law by thoroughly dissecting the issues raised by the petitioners during their 12-hour long judgement.

I wish to also Congratulate INEC for the petience and professionalism in standing against all allegations, threats and intimidation by the petitioners.

Concern Citizen Condemns injustice meted on South in the Commission


The Federal Character Commission was established with a primary focus of ensuring a strong, virile and indivisible nation, based on fairness, equity, and justice to promote national unity, foster national loyalty and give every citizen a sense of belonging.

Federal Character as such should be example,in the sense that every position in the federal character commission should be distributed based on principal of federal character.

To a deep extent the federal character commission has fail to lead by example in the distribution of positions within the commission

According to the federal character commissions act there shall be a chairman who will serve as the chief executive of the commission too and secretary to the commission,who will serve as secretary to the Commission.

This two positions are very important in the Federal Character commission and is meant to be held by the person from separate regions

If the chairman is from North ,then the secretary to the Commission will be from South and vise versa.

It's unfair that the chairperson is from Kwara state (north) and the secretary is from taraba state(north) both from NORTHERN REGION this is against the principals which the commission stands for.

It's also in history that since the establishment of the Federal Character commission in 1996 that No Southerner or person from South has ever been appointed the chairman of the federal character commission,that position has always been occupied by Northerners or persons from north,this too goes against the principals of federal character ,the position of chairman should rotate between north and south.

Hence it's important for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR through the secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen.George Akume,who the federal character commission is under his supervision correct this injustice meted out on the south, especially southeast in the commission.

It's therefore equity and fairness that chairman federal character commission should come to south and southeast especially after 26 years of establishment of the commission.

Federal Character commission must be made to be an embodiment of what it stands for ,this will be achieved by correcting these abonormalise and strengthening it.
